Metra Wiring Harness for a 2011 Porsche Cayman
Joe from Neptune Beach, FL on 8/25/2022
2011 Porsche Cayman
First I want to say, I have successfully used Metra wiring harness to install several audio units in multiple cars. They are "game changer" and worth the $$. I used this wiring Harness to install a Kenwood DDX57S into my 2011 Porsche Cayman. 90% of the wiring was quick and easy. The other 10% was a PIA. To get power to the unit, you have to run a separate wire from the fuse box to the unit. It's not an elegant solution. Next, I had to run a ground wire from the back of the head unit to the parking break switch. To do this, on my Cayman, you have to take the center console apart. (NOTE: This was required to play DVD's. If you get a head unit without the DVD feature, this is not needed.) After I finished the install, which took me all morning, I had NO SOUND. To fix this, I had to contact Crutchfield support (they are excellent). To correct the NO SOUND problem, I had to get power from the Kenwood to the amplifier that provides power to the speakers. To do this, I used a MINI Posi-Tap to tap into the cars stock wiring harness and run a wire directly to the power supply in back of the Kenwood head unit. Basically, I had to bypass the wiring harness to get this to work.
Pros: 90% of the wiring was quick and easy
Cons: The other 10% of the wiring was a PIA.

So i went out and bought a Scosche VW03B which does have all the pin outs populated. Do yourself a favor and just get the Scosche instead because it's better to have the pins and not use them then not have them and need them.

do not purchase the wire harness. it will only use three wires. the rest you have to splice. all the other wires do not function with HK system and you still will need to splice into a fused accessory power supply.
Pros: the harness uses a functional adapter for three wires. (ground, 12v constant, antenna (i think). The rest you need to splice and wire in.
Cons: not a full adapter. need to spice for steering wheel control, speakers and accessory power. It is also recommended by PAC to add a separate ground.

Made life easier
Steven from New York on 3/20/2015
2005 BMW X3
Made my easier as I was able to wire my radio to the harness at my kitchen table instead of in my car and I did not have to cut any wires in the car. There was a problem however. Apparently my BMW has an amplifier in it. The wiring harness had a blue wire which I connected to the blue wire on my radio which was for a power antenna. After installing my head unit only the radio placed. No sound for aux or CD. I called up Alpine, the maker of my head unit and was very quickly told that I wired the power antenna wire to the amp. So the amp was only getting power when the radio was on. I had to pull out the radio wire the amp wire from my car to the amp out put from my radio. All was good after that. It took an extra 5-6 minutes to do plus the time to call Alpine. I give the harness only four starts because of that
Pros: Easy installation
Cons: Crutchfield failed to tell me that the blue wire on the harness was for the amp when normally the blue/white wire is for amps

Size is great, spent the extra $10 assuming that it was easier to instal than the other products based on reviews. One important note for a 2006 Mini Cooper: the instructions aren't 100% clear on where to connect one of the wires. You must splice it into the wiring harness thats built into the car, not the intermediate connector between the stereo and car.
Pros: Small, automatic syncing
Cons: Not the best instructions, a lot of excess wire(maybe have more models that are smaller and more simple controller/wires for just specific cars, less versatile)

Wire Harness For Saturn Astra - Easy Fit
RCGz from Dallas, TX on 7/11/2012
2008 Saturn Astra
This was a great and easy fit after I struggled to find an adapter to fit the wire harness for my Saturn Astra. Although there are a couple connections from my Pioneer 3400 that don't link and therefore cannot be used, I am thrilled to finally get my new stereo connected and working. It was a very easy install with this. The toughest part was getting the ignition switch power. The fuse box is basically in the trunk of the Astra, so I had to go out and get additional wire to reach the wiper fuse. Maybe there was another choice undr he dash, but I am not aware of it. 5 stars for this if all the functionality crossed over. Otherwise.. awesome!
Pros: Easy install!
Cons: Not 100% compatible with my new Pioneer 3400 (missing some connections, and thus features).

Not even close.
KdK from APO, AE on 5/30/2012
2005 Volkswagen Passat
Couldn't give it a zero. Not even close. To put it simply, the harness has 11 wires, the head unit 16, and the car about 27. The ball was dropped with this one, not too happy as I have to wait 2-3 weeks for things I get wherever they station me. Car is a 2005 VW Passat station wagon without the monsoon system. NOT a beginner and NOT even my 10th time completing such task let-alone the first. Probably could make it work, but would defeat the purpose of this harness and saved me a couple of weeks.

It works - almost
RBE from SE PA on 5/27/2012
2004 BMW X3
But for two missing wires, this part would get five stars. Everything fits, it's hard to miss which wires get spliced to the radio's wiring (well, with one exception for the BMW X-3). But this item is missing the dashboard lighting signal, and the fact the BMW X-3 needs power for an external amp was missing from the documentation. Additionally, the information about where to find switched 12 V for the radio (that is, which fuse to tap) was missing. In the end, I had to read through BMW docs to find what I needed - tech support was simply wrong on this point. But everything else was fine, so three stars with two missing for the omissions and error.
Pros: Things fit, most wiring connections are well described.
Cons: Two wire connections are missing in the BMW X-3 harness, the power connection information is totally missing.

Harness and instructions worked great. Colors matched up perfectly.
Pros: Worked great, color match on wires, good instructions
Cons: Could provide small clips for insertion of other wires needed, example: steering wheel control adapter. If I had 2 small clips to put on the adapter wires I could have simply plugged them into the new plug and they would have connected to existing car wiring. As it was I had to tap into 2 more wires outside the harness for the optional steering wheel control wires.

Great!, now what.
Dave from Orlando, FL on 6/22/2009
Love Crutchfield and their products, however, they kinda dropped the ball on this one. The wire harness is very easy to install, but doesn't allow the back door speakers to work on my 2007 Audi A4. And crutchfield did not have remedy for this. Not too pleased with that, sorry Crutchfield, this time you dropped the ball.

Easy peasy

The harness worked great and was a breeze. My only complaint is the fuse box jumper wire required for key power. I'd rather it be worked in somehow other than that way.

Overall very good and works as advertised, didn't come with instructions for backlighting/dimming when dashlights turned on so I successfullly winged it, otherwise it'd have been a 5 of 5.

New radio for Golf Gti 2002

Purchased this radio to replace an existing Pioneer radio that I had previously installed. I used Crutchfield due to the additional free VW antenna connection, VW wiring connection and VW dash pocket. When I got the parcel I realised that the antenna connection was not the correct one for my car neither was the wiring harness and since I didn't have the in dash CD player I didn't need the VW dash pocket although it was a nice though by Crutchfield to include it. Luckily I was able to reuse my existing wiring harness and antenna. I don't know if it is just my car that has the different connections but I ran into the same problem when I swapped out my OME radio with the pioneer. All in all Crutchfield delivered on time and with all the equipment necessary to do the job eventhough it was the wrong equipment.

Almost perfect

As usual, the folks at Crutchfield made it almost idiot proof to install this unit. My only issue is the unit will not power off when I turn off the car. I have a VW Touareg. Other than that, the wiring was clean and simple.

Metra 70-9003 Receiver Wiring Harness

LIKES: it snaps right in with the factory harness. DISLIKE: the directions -- the part for antenna was confusing, good thing I called the experts at Crtuchfield, which told me to hook the confusing line to antenna wire. I also didn't like the piggy back for key power onto fuse box. They recommend hooking it to windshield wiper fuse, which makes me nervous since I hate overrides like that. Why couldn't everything be hooked to the wire harness like the factory radio?? Anyway, I had to take the bottom apart, hide the wire inside and into the fuse box. Just like the other person who didn't like piggy backing onto a fuse: it takes some shoving of that prong and trusting what they say -- because it is nerve wrecking to override something you don't quite understand. END RESULT: I was able to get it to work - but the only way you can turn the radio on is with a key in set to ON, which is okay for me since I don't want the radio to drain the battery if I forget to shut it off. One thing for sure, you can totally rely on the experts @ Crutchfield, they're awesome!

My only complaint is with VW for using a digital signal for turning the radio on and off.. for a professional install, there is a wire on the ignition that does exactly what the radio did before (turn off when the key is removed).. which is pretty easy to setup.. (I forget the color of the wire, but I think it was brown and red on my 2003 GTI).. just break out the multi-meter and turn the car off (if it still has power you're close) and if you take the key out and the meter goes to 0 power you found it.. just be sure to put a fuse on the wire (so you don't accidently cause more trouble than you want)..

Installed fine
bikedork from Mpls. on 9/20/2008
2002 Jetta TDI with the OEM Monsoon double DIN system. The harness works fine. Yes, the accessory clip to the fuse box is a little kludgy, but it isn't difficult to route and hook up. Not sure why the other reviewer could not find the 25 amp fuse that this should hook into. Seemed pretty straightforward to me, although the increased size of the blade of the fuse makes it a bugger to get back into the slot. VW owners, make sure you add power to the antenna! There was a 12 V lead from the Kenwood amp, that needs to be connected to the power wire of the antenna, but the Crutchfield instructions said nothing about this. Essential for AM reception. Worst part of the installation was getting the wires to move aside to allow for the head unit to move all the way back.

How very nice!

Boy, this makes installation so easy and non-destructive. You can solder the socket to the stereo in the kitchen, then it just snaps into place, no destruction of the car's wiring. Another rating complained about the extra red wire, and it is a pain, but it's VW that causes the pain, not this wire. For the life of me I can't figure out how VW's radios get turned on and off with the key, there does not seem to be a wire around anywhere! I am guessing there is some kind of signalling setup rather than a switched wire. I ended up tapping into a wire our of that fuse rather than using the supplied tap, but it looked like a good idea. If you look you can find several fuses that are good for this job. Thanks for including this gear!

only cause I can't give it zero stars
Candy from Independence, KY on 8/25/2007

This harness did not work as the instructions said it would. The kit requires you to run a separate wire to fuse box and give you small device to piggy back off of another circuit for switched power. Besides the "iffy" power hook up, the fuse they tell you to tap isn't actually there. I sent mine back.
