Minimize dash butchery with Sony radio

So, I'm one who hates making irreversible changes to my vehicle. After doing plenty of research, I figured out that if you order a Sony radio where the rear section is not the full double din height (in my case the XAV-AX3200), you can simply not cut into the subdash. This will require trimming the radio mounting brackets to cut off the part which interfered with the unremoved subdash. I also found that the holes weren't quite in the right place, so I had to cut out more from the dash mounting brackets to mount the Sony radio, but that could be user error I still had to trim a fraction of an inch off the bottom of the OEM radio trim panel. In my case, the top of the panel is already cracking, so if I re-installed the OEM radio, the missing strip would not be out of place, or I could entirely replace the broken panel with a junkyard piece.

Does the trick!

This kit is pretty spot on for modifying a single din space to a double din space. I'm knocking one star off because i think the facade bracket retaining screws could be a little bit bigger thus making the facade fit a little snugger. Do not overtighten the screw or you are screwed.

Great kit

All in all, this is a quality kit that includes everything you need to make the double DIN installation look really nice. I really liked the hard plastic cut template that made everything easy. The instructions on placing the brackets on the side of the radio could have been a little more clear as I had to switch to different holes when I went to put the trim panel back in place. The radio I selected had a Double DIN face, but the chassis was single DIN so I ended up trimming the side brackets instead of cutting the sub dash panel. I may play with the position a little, right now it's raised a little from the dash, but I think it looks very clean. The factory radio had quit working and I think this kit + a double DIN radio looks better than the single DIN and those kits.

Crutchfield is the way to go

This is my first car stereo install. I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota that I replaced the stock radio. I purchased radio backup camera package. I want to say up front that Crutchfield's prices were great and their customer service is top notch. The instructions were easy to follow and only called their tech support once. They were very helpful. I purchased the wiring interface service that they do-the wiring of the harness for your vehicle, so it was pretty much plug and play. I only had to wire 4 wires. The dash kit worked nicely and looks wonderful as shown in the picture. One installer wanted $980 to do it. I only paid $320 and did it myself. THANKS CRUTCHFIELD.

Great trim kit

The included template was one of the best I've used. Hard plastic that made marking the necessary cuts effortless making the install look really professional. Brackets include the holes for the stock panel to snap back in.

Had been trying to figure out how to get a double DIN in my 06 Dakota and still make it look decent. Just happened to stumble into an announcement for this and jumped on it. It does require cutting up the dash so not something that is easy to reverse, but at 15 years old it doesn't matter. If I have to replace this radio, then I'll just get another double DIN. No regrets at all, love it.

My local installer struggled to find a kit to mount my Kenwood DDX6705S into my 2005 Dodge Dakota ANYWHERE. Crutchfield not only has the part, they got it to me in 3 days. I'm so happy with it and Crutchfield I ordered some new speakers. They're supposed to be here today!
