If you dont have a dremel tool, not sure how anyone would get this done. They should just mold them with out the extra plastic. Once you get the plastic removed, it worked great, just be very carful as the plastic is weakened and can break easly.

John from Solsberry, IN on 11/25/2024

The dash kit won't work with the installation. The screws aren't long enough to attach both the dask kit and the brackets. The dash kit has to install between the brackets and the radio, but the brackets would then stick out too far to align with the mounting hardware within the vehicle. If there is another way to install the dash kit, there is nothing in the instructions to so indicate.
Pros: Would probably look nice - fill in the gaps.
Cons: Doesn't work with the installation.

Functional, although longer mounting screws need to be included.
Casey from Leavenworth, KS on 1/9/2024
2012 Scion xB
Everything about the installation is fairly straightforward for mounting an aftermarket Kenwood Receiver (DNR476S) in a 2012 Scion xB. However, the instructions called for the factory mounting brackets and mounting brackets to be reused from the original receiver. The issue is that these screws are way too short to thread the mounting brackets and dash kit brackets onto the aftermarket receiver. Luckily I was able to reuse other longer screws from a previous receiver.
Pros: Fits well and looks fine.
Cons: Reusing factory screws is not an option, and longer mounting screws need to be included with this kit.

Simply not the right solution for a Scion tC2 w/ Boss BE920WCPA
Kenneth from NOBLESVILLE, IN on 12/1/2023
2011 Scion tC
This may work for some but with a 2011 Scion tC and a Boss BE920WCPA head unit, it just doesn't fit. Followed the instructions by removing a piece, but the mounting holes just don't quite line up for a proper fit. I suppose I could eventually shave on it until I get it to work, but to be honest, I could probably model a trim and 3D print it with ABS in less time and with fewer frustrations. If I thought it would look fantastic by cutting and sanding on it, it may be worth the time, but I don't think it will. Just a bit too much slop on the edges to continue to mess with it. It is what it is. A kit designed to fit a ton of vehicles. Probably trying too fit too many vehicles, to be honest. When something is designed to fit a lot if products "OK". Then just "OK" is probably going to be the best result you get on a vast majority of installs. I just think for my car with this head unit, it's just not close enough to be all that useful without complete reconstructive surgery. I don't need customer support to reach out to me. I've already decided to custom model my own trim. No worries. Save your time for someone that needs some help. This isn't a review of Crutchfield's customer service, just an honest assessment if this product for my specific application. Thanks.
Pros: For the price being relatively cheap, it could be "ok" looking with a couple of hours of precision surgery.
Cons: Mounting holes simply don't line up for my application. A bit too much slop to every look fantastic for my application.

In moving a stereo from an '05 4Runner Limited to an '06 SR5, the brackets were not the same. I called Crutchfield tech support. They pulled the data on the stereo I had bought from them in 2020 and the car specs, and sent the exact brackets needed for the '06. They made sure I had next day shipping so I didn't have the car opened up through the thanksgiving holiday. That level of support is why I have been a customer since the catalog days.

Jason from Fairfax, CA on 11/7/2023

Leaves huge gaps on both sides of radio, called Crutchfield and was told to get silicone to fill in! Really that's what is recommended? This is not the correct dash kit, I had one and it's broke, now I have to find one because Crutchfield does not offer the correct kit. Extremely disappointed with all of it, it looks awful and does not mount correct in 2004 4 runner limited.

Hector from CORPUS CHRISTI, TX on 8/13/2023
2013 Toyota Highlander
I installed a Kenwood DMX809S in place of the factory stereo in a 2013 Toyota Highlander limited with JBL. These brackets work well to cover the gaps on either side of the new unit however it took some modifications to the factory mounts for them to work. When attaching them to the side of the stereo, the original screws work well. When you try to attach them to the factory mounts, the screws are too short. I aLao had to improvise by "trimming" the mounts to accommodate the extra space. They do seem a bit flimsy so, I hope they don't break.
Pros: Covers gaps on side of radio
Cons: Factory stereo mounts needed modifications to accommodate these.

These are quite flimsy, and I am afraid they will break at some point. They fill the gap to my vehicle trim kinda well, but they are at a different angle than my dash, so looks a little cheesy. I at first screwed the kit to my Pioneer stereo and it fit perfect. Dry fit it into the dash panel and it looked good. I then went to attach the factory brackets back on and there was no way that was working. I "dremeled" the kit brackets until they cleared the factory bracket, but the factory brackets still needed some work to clear the screws from the kit brackets. After all of that it worked and looks good. Just be aware if you have a 2014 Sienna with the Entune Navigation Stereo. This is not plug and play for that model.
Pros: Holes line up perfectly. Looks good after installed.
Cons: Needs drastic cutting for my application

Not yet functional. I have to contact tech support and find out how and if the mounting brackets can be used. So on my vehicle and head unit these bolt right onto the unit and fit the front dash panel perfectly but with these bracket on the unit it makes the unit to wide to fit into the frame work behind the dash. Seems like it should work perfectly but just doesn't fit. It doesn't allow the dash panel to snap back into place making the dash flush and factory looking again.I will contact tech support, a lot of times mounting kits require some modification to make them work. 2013 highlander with Kenwood dmx-4707s head until.
Pros: Bolt up perfectly to the head unit and fit the opening in the dash panel flush.
Cons: Does not fit on the unit and into the the frame behind dash. Not allowing the dash panel to snap back into place.

Poor Fit on 2015 Scion FR-S
William from Morgan Hill, CA on 1/4/2023
2015 Scion FR-S
This bracket as a spacer looks OK from the dashboard outside. The holes are drilled in the right location for my Sony head unit, but there is a mechanical interference getting the backets on. I had to cut about a 1-inch slot in the plastic to get it to work. It's a little flimsy now. After reworking it I got it to work, but I would not call this "plug and play" for a 2015 Scion FR-S.
Pros: Price is good. Looks decent from the dashboard.
Cons: Requires cutting to fit my car.

Bad Fit
Asim from PERRY HALL, MD on 11/27/2022
2016 Scion iM
Doesn't fit a 2016 Scion iM without leaving gaps around the edges and mismatching the colors. Called Crutchfield support twice. First guy seemed to have a bit of an attitude with helping me wire the harnesses together but at least I got everything hooked up and working with him. Second guy was a bit better but said I should buy deadening mats to tuck behind the head unit to cover the gaps on the Metra. Why does Crutchfield list these Metra clips as compatible and part of the install kit if they don't fit the car its listed under? The manual also doesn't even mention any instructions for my car either which makes me feel like it isn't designed for my car. Also, I shouldn't have to buy more fitting equipment when the install kit was supposed to include the fitting for my car unless they cover the cost. I ended up paying extra and buying a PAC Audio TTR991GB which is made for my car (Crutchfield doesn't sell this) and installing it and it matches the color and trim perfectly. The first three pics show the Metra clips, the last shows the PAC Audio one. These Metra clips are horrible, I want a refund.
Pros: nothing
Cons: fit

I installed these on an aftermarket Alpine ILX-507 head unit in a Toyota 4Runner in conjunction with the factory unit mounts to fill the voids on either side of the 7" screen. The aftermarket radio trim ring must be removed, and these had to be flipped upside down, and cross-crossed(left was used on the right side, and right was used on the left side) in order to install correctly. They worked as intended.

This is not an install kit. These two pieces are fillers to fill in gaps on the side of the radio where needed. I didn't need them. I needed an install kit which for my application was the Metra 99-8268 which fits 1st generation Toyota Tundras, Sequoia and Highlanders. Crutchfield didn't have the kit so I bought elsewhere and Crutchfield reimbursed me for it.

They fit very well. Very slight, tiniest gap. Overall looks great, especially for an after market product. Installing may involve having to grind away some alignment pins on factory brackets. Then figure out how to make it all align for the right screw placement.
Pros: Fits almost perfect. Uses existing factory brackets and screws.
Cons: Prepping the factory brackets and aligning holes may take some time.

Didn't fit as expected.
Robert from Bethlehem , PA on 6/15/2022
2010 Toyota Yaris
This kit is pretty blah for this application. Although it fits many cars, this didn't fit my fathers the way it was supposed to. His trim panels didn't match what Metra had pictured, which could be why? Perhaps Toyota changed something mid-year. These brackets didn't keep front pieces tight enough to the radio, which wouldn't allow the trim piece to go over these side pieces. I would have to Dremel these down to fit properly, so it was frustrating. It's better than leaving a a gap on the sides of the radio, but now I have gaps in the trim, so...

Works, but not as plug and play as I'd like.
Kevin from Columbia, MD on 6/1/2022
2013 Subaru BRZ
Hated that I had to use a dremel to cut out a piece of each bracket to fit my car. It shows an approximate spot to cut, but I had to do it a couple times to get it just right. Not exactly universal -- especially if you don't have a dremel or access to one. Also, the plastic is a little thick, so neither the provided screws, nor my stock Subaru screws were long enough to secure the brackets to the new head unit. I had to source extras. I would look for another bracket next time if that exists.

Won't fit Toyota FJ without major jury rigging
Ok from Rapid City, SD on 6/1/2022
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
This is "supposed" to fit in a Toyota FJ. In order to get it to work, you have to cut away, approximately 50% of the part, leaving only one hole to mount to the radio, and you have to cut very close to that hole, so don't mess it up. When you have to make that many modifications to a part, it wasn't designed for the application specified. After 30 minutes of trying to figure out how this was supposed to work, I called Crutchfield, and she e-mailed me a "diagram" (see photo) how to modify the part. There was no information in the Metra instructions indicating that. Metra should be ashamed, as should Crutchfield for knowing this piece of work, doesn't fit without major modifications.
Pros: None, Nada, zero, zip, zirch!
Cons: I hope you are proficient at carving plastic, you are going to need to employ those skills.

Used it to install a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX in a 2015 Subaru Forester with Nav and HK. This kit is simply a filler for the spaces on the side of the new HU. You likely will have to modify it for your application. I had to use the factory mounting brackets with the new HU. My modification was pretty simple the cut off wheel on my angle grinder was all I needed.
Pros: Fills the gaps
Cons: none if you go into it with the understanding that you will likely need to modify it.

Useless Written Instructions
Guest from Charlottesville, VA on 11/1/2021
The representative who helped me was great, and he encouraged me to try installing it myself as I was in a time crunch, and they didn't have any open appointments. I think the wiring and other materials I purchased to migrate my stereo from one car to another are right, and I was assured that the packet I received would give me detailed instructions to attach my new wiring harness, and instead, the extent of the instructions after showing photos of how to get the seating etc out were to "follow the instructions as outlined by the product manufacturer." This meant that after giving myself the afternoon to work on it with a helper, I took my car apart, took out the old stereo, and then could not get the new one wired to work because I didn't even have a diagram of the wiring scheme. Had to go through the toil of putting the old one back in. Very disappointing. Had I known the packet was insufficient I would have made sure to have the right instructions or waited to start the job. Terrible waste of time.
Pros: Salesman seemed to know what I needed. Equipment is probably right.
Cons: Written packet had no wiring instructions or even a diagram. Couldn't finish the job. Waste of time.

Fit my Alpine iLX-W650 smartly into the dash of my 2005 Toyota Tundra Double Cab with only a tiny gap on the top edge. Hardly noticeable. Took a couple of read-throughs of the instructions and sizing up to understand what needed to be done. Requires the old radio mounts to be used. You need to cut the plastic pieces, I used a model makers saw. You also have to grind down four bumps on the radio mounts to mount flat to the unit. A Dremel would be great but I used a file (Dremel at the office) and it worked fine. Not difficult and worked great.
Pros: Not hard to install and great fit
Cons: Instructions took a couple minutes to figure out. Be prepared to cut plastic pieces and possibly file or grind your old radio mounts

2005 Toyota RAV4
This kit came with the installation package for a 2005 Toyota RAV4. You have to modify the brackets, per instructions, and that's no problem. The point of these pieces is to make the head unit fit exactly in the Toyota dash trim. Unfortunately, the trim pieces on the front of these spacers have an extra ~2mm of material on the inside edge of each, and that makes the head unit and trim 4mm too wide to fit in the manufacturer's dash trim. None of this was mentioned anywhere in the instructions. These pieces had to be carefully modified for the package to work. The problem is that by the time you figure this out, you'll assume you did something wrong. You didn't. Be ready to sand some plastic.

It was a perfect fit for my 2004 Tundra. In my case I had to cut off some of the L-shaped leg, that the instruction indicate you may need to do. All in all in this setup the Metra Dash Kit was all you needed to complete the look for the Double Din aftermarket stereo.

Great for the price, but instructions could be better
Crutchfield customer from Gainesville, GA on 2/25/2021
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Instructions could be better. Instructions are geared to professional installers that deal with car audio on a daily basis. For amateur / self installers I recommend reading the instructions 2x and then checking your actual fit prior to cutting/modifying as the instructions say to do. I found the material filler plates get very flimsy after modifying as per instructions. Metra can do a better job with this product and reinforce (thicken) certain areas to remove flimsiness.
Pros: Looks great Works as intended
Cons: Instructions are too broad Best if they had video showing possible / common techniques for modification/utilization

This fits well and looks fine in the car. It does need to be modified slightly because part of the plastic piece that attaches to the head unit interferes with the vehicle mounting cage. The modification is obvious. Just make sure that you have a hacksaw or similar tool to cut off the offending part.

Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit
Ken from Holden Beach, NC on 10/31/2020
2007 Toyota 4Runner
This "multi-kit" came with the two Boss touch screen radios (BE7ACP & BV800ACP) I installed in a 2004 RAV4 and a 2007 4Runner. This "kit" does not properly fit either radio/car combination. The hole patterns are off horizontally by approximately 3 mm. Consequently it will not properly fit as is. Is this Metra kit the only game in town? For the RAV4 I ended up cutting off all of the mounting bracket just wedging the trim against the vertical ledges of the radio with the auto trim panel. For the 4Runner, I found that by cutting off the back mounting section as recommended by the manual for the 4Runner and then twisting the remaining mounting section back and forth several time thereby distorting it aft enough to get it to line up with the top forward mounting hole, the trim piece would at least stay in place prior to again wedging the trim against the radio with the 4Runner trim panel. I've read other reviews that indicate various other work arounds with varying success. My installs look ok.
Pros: Looks better than nothing if you can get it installed
Cons: Doesn't fit

It is a cheap piece of plastic. It's only function is to fill the gap on the sides of factory opening. The instructions are a bit confusing.
Pros: I didn't have to fabricate anything. If you don't want any gaps in your radio trim, and you don't have any fabrication skills, this is for you.
Cons: I could have fabricated something better. Also, you will need to modify this piece for it to work. I recommend having some tin snips.

Close but Not Quite
Crutchfield customer from Evansville, WI on 7/20/2020
2008 Toyota Yaris
This kit is most likely a very good universal dash kit for most applications, but the combination that I was using it for did not work, without major modifications. The combination I have is a 2008 Yaris hatchback and a BOSS Elite BV800ACP double din head unit. I would say that it is a close match, but not close enough. When mounted to the head unit, the spacers do not protrude far enough to clear the edge bezel of the unit so it can sit flush. The spacer itself is also short, since the edge around the spacer doesn't clear the car facia when placed in the proper location on the head unit. I am sure that Metra could create something that would work better, but this one is a miss.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Does not fit all combinations of car and double din head unit, that is expected.

This Bracket Works!!! (with minor modification)
Crutchfield customer from Miami, FL on 7/19/2020
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
I know what you're thinking, why am I here looking at a review for a piece of plastic right? Its important though, because this is going to be holding your head unit and filling space in your dash. For FJ Cruiser owners, know this: You're going to need a razor and/or a rotary tool to smooth down some of the ridges around the screw eyes to get it to flush mount correctly with your existing bracket (which is required for mounting properly). Once trimming is complete, everything can be married up and happy for the installation. The bracket fits well in the space, filling the small gap between the head unit and the dash, and generally does the job it is supposed to do. The black isn't too shiny, yet not so dull. Its basically the Goldilocks of stereo mounting equipment. I'd buy it again, but I'd prefer it if had a little metal.
Pros: It works, its easy, and its simple
Cons: Had to complete minor modifications of the frame for it to fit the 2007 FJ Cruiser existing bracket.

This bracket worked as expected, but could not possibly be made of cheaper plastic. Cost cutting at its finest and will most likely not last very long. Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit
Crutchfield customer from San Diego, CA on 2/11/2020
2002 Toyota Celica
The dash kit did not fit flush with the head unit. Each side had several millimeters of extra material that pushed the front pieces out to the side and would not fit within the dash opening. Glad we checked before getting everything installed. With some rough gain sand paper, a flat surface and some patience we were able to remove the extra plastic and make it fit. Final result is satisfactory. I'm sure there is a wide variation on the dimensions of head units and dashboards, so maybe this kit works with most and we just got unlucky?
Pros: Free with the stereo we purchased. Did end up working fine after modification. Looks fine after the installation was complete.
Cons: Not a perfect fit with the stereo we have.

Not a mounting bracket, only for looks.
Travis from CHATSWORTH, CA on 1/21/2020
2007 Scion tC
I was working on a customers car who had a 2006 Scion xB was recommended this product would fit. I guess this would have fit if I had the original brackets from the OEM radio. Since the radio in the car was already an aftermarket single DIN this was not the case. I had to cut this bracket into pieces and fabricate (cut apart) the single din plastic to be able to jimmy rig the radio with gorilla tape to fit securely. There is nothing to screw in with this bracket to the vehicle. I would not reccomend this bracket at all except ONLY to fill in the gap on the dashboard.
Pros: Fills in the hole in the dash
Cons: Does not mount to the vehicle. Does not Fit properly in a 06 scion xb.

Flexible, easy instructions, does the job adequately
Jason from ATLANTA, GA on 1/14/2020
Installed this in my 2006 Tundra. The instructions were super easy to follow, this unit is used for multiple models of Toyota, and the cut lines were super clear for me. Bonus for other 1st-Gen Tundra drivers, the line you need to cut across is embossed and you can perfectly fit a hacksaw blade across it as a guide for a perfect cut. Instructions mention you need to grind of the locator bumps on the OEM steel brackets. Thankfully my Crutchfield advisor also informed me it's helpful to slightly grind down two little ears on the OEM steel adapter plates (you must re-use) which these brackets lay over - had he not mentioned this, I would've needed to pull everything back out again and re-fit. Because of that tip, I was able to prepare and my entire kit install took less than 10 minutes and fit PERFECTLY SQUARE! My only gripe ... on either side of the stereo opening, there's a half-millimeter gap or so around everything, and I don't like that the "ears" of the bracket make my Alpine ILX-W650 appear 2-3mm forward, past the kit. I'd prefer a more flush-mount appearance, but this is such a huge nit-pick on my part I'm hesitant to mention it. Just saying it in case this helps anyone else.
Pros: Well-written and very clear instructions. Strong product, nice looking hardware included. Made for a very quick and easy install on my 2006 Tundra.
Cons: Two small complaints: First, this kit isn't designed for a totally flush-mount install, its ears rest a couple millimeter behind the head unit screen which may bother some people. Second, there's a tiny gap around the entire perimeter of my double-DIN radio which is only visible in extremely bright circumstances.

These fill in the dash opening well but directions could have been better. Listed my car model on removal of stereo but when it came time for the install it didn't list my model and I had to cut the pieces so they would bolt on my stereo mounting brackets. Just had to wing it and hope for the best.
Pros: Fill in dash opening well
Cons: Directions could have been more thorough for my model. Showed several other models, just not mine.

Does the job
Crutchfield customer from Haymarket, VA on 12/31/2019
Helps complete the setup, but you will have to modify it for my specific application, so you need to know what you're doing. I even had to add two small screws and nuts for my application because the kit did not account for how it would mount up (Sony XAV-AX5000 in a 2006 Toyota Sequoia).
Pros: Good finish.
Cons: Too much custom modding required.

Simple but it does it's job. The directions said on some models the kit may needed to be modified. In my case it needed to be cut where the straight lines are on the kit. Nothing that a dremel tool couldn't take care of. However the screws were a bit too short. Luckily, we had some extras screws that did fit just fine. Slapped the dash kit onto the stereo and it looks great.

Cons: Supplied screws were a little too short

Instructions included weren't accurate for my specific application of a 05 Toyota Tundra with JBL but with the help of a Dremel, modifying the dash kit and part of my factory mount was easy enough. According to the instructions I had to cut the dash kit in a specific location of the dash kit but it was backwards. I had to cut it like it was a Scion(left of Tundra in manual) in order for it to fit. Keep this in mind if you're installing this in an 05 Tundra and keep a rotary tool nearby!

Poor design for use in Toyota FJ
Mike from Anaheim, CA on 1/7/2019
2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser
I had to take a grinder to these plastic brackets to make them fit. Also, the screws that come with the radio are not long enough to use with these brackets. The Sony radio I bought this for uses 5 mm sheet metal screws. These cannot be found at local hardware stores, nor can you find anything shorter than a half inch. #10 screws are close, but slightly undersized and pull out of the holes. Bought four #12 x 1/2 inch sheet metal screws, clamped them in a vice and ground them to length. #12 screws are too big, but I forced them into the holes anyway. For the cost of the install kit, the user should not have to machine parts to make it work. About half the time spent on the install was trying to get these two stupid little pieces of trim mounted.
Pros: Looks ok once installed
Cons: Design is not compatible with the vehicle mounting brackets without a lot of tools, work and time.

Overpriced but did the job
Jack from Chesapeake, VA on 12/4/2018
2005 Toyota 4Runner
It did the job, and is made in the USA...which I genuinely appreciate. It is extremely overpriced for what it is though. Two pieces of molded plastic is all you get, and there is potential that you will have to shave away some of the plastic with a dremel tool, depending on your specific factory bracket. Fair market value would top off at $5...at that price, I'd go 5 Stars.
Pros: It fit and looks okay...
Cons: Overpriced and is a matte finish and the radio is a glossy black finish.

It doesn't sit completely flush with the actual head unit but it still does the job.
Pros: It still did what it was supposed to Do.
Cons: You must own a drimmel or file for this. And you still have to use the factory mounts with the double din. Unfortunately my screws weren't long enough so I had to go out and get more. It also doesn't sit completely flush with my double din.

I used this to install a double-DIN stereo in a 2008 Toyota Yaris. It did what it was supposed to do.
Pros: It fills in the gaps on either side of my stereo. Looks nice in the dash.
Cons: You end-up reusing part of the factory radio's mounting brackets that are attached to the factory radio (not a bad thing - that's just how it is designed). I pulled the factory radio, and had both it (with mounting brackets still attached) and the new stereo side-by-side when installing the adapter pieces. Do one-side at a time - it isn't intuitive.

Great product but doesn't hold radio.
Anthony from Logan, UT on 5/24/2018
2004 Toyota 4Runner
This is a fair product for what it does. It basically covers the holes next to the radio maybe a 1/2 inch on each side of the radio. I installed this in my 04 Toyota 4Runner. It does connect to the radio perfectly but as for holding it in the space, uhhh no. I ended up having to drill 4 holes, 2 on top and bottom on the plastic around the radio and use safety wire to hold the radio in place. It's pretty dang firm now. But other than that it's great product!
Pros: Cheap, small, same color as car plastic.
Cons: Doesn't hold radio at all.

Great instructions, but requires modification
Grant from Eagle Mtn, UT on 5/22/2018
2003 Toyota Tundra
You have to do some customization for this to fit - which was a surprise. Depending on your vehicle's mounting bracket you have to cut away certain portions of the dash kit. I also had to grind some locating pins on my factory brackets to fit my radio. The instructions are perfect about how to tear down the dash and reassemble. The fit is okay, there was still a little gapping in my 2003 Tundra.
Pros: Instructions
Cons: Modification to the kit is sometimes required.

Purchased for use on a 2004 Toyota Tundra thinking it can replace the factory bracket for those with double din sized oem or factory upgraded JBL Sound Sytems. I made the mistake of throwing away my oem radio on my first Head Unit upgrade to a single din not thinking i would eventually upgrade again. What this kit would do though is make any aftermarket HU look like a factory installed component so keeping the factory brackets are a must for Toyota vehicles along with double checking vehicle applications.

Not bad dash filler
Mark S from Orlando, FL on 3/21/2018
2006 Toyota Matrix
These seem a little flimsy/weak. Also, I had to do more than what the instructions said to make it work with my radio. It will work in your favor if you have a Dremel and the cone shaped grinder head for it. This worked wonderfully for me to shave and shape the piece the way I needed to in order to make it fit properly. Once in place though, they look great, effectively filling the air space between the radio and my dash.
Pros: Looks good once in place
Cons: Feel a bit flimsy, had to be careful not to break them.

Instructions a little confusing but figured it out. You have to pay attention to what to cut off when fitting the radio adapters. It could have used slightly longer screws because I'm not sure how much thread depth was achieved.

It's okay...
victor from New York, NY on 2/14/2018
It is okay, it does the job of filling the side gaps of the Radio/Navigation unit. Be aware that you may have to cut or shave the pieces to fit in your vehicle which I did not know until I opened the packaging and read the diagrams included. This is important. Had to stop in the middle of install to find a friend that happened to have a hacksaw, and knew enough to make a CLEAN cut. Also be very cautious as pieces can easily snap.
Pros: Does the basic intended function.
Cons: Slightly delicate. May require cutting or shaving to fit your device.

The holes in the dash kit did not line up with the receiver. They were about 3/32 too far towards the front. I thought maybe it was the receiver. But, then I lined it up with the dash and the receiver bracket, and once again they were off by that same 3/32. Conclusion, Metra kit is not to specification. The good news is it is relatively simple to elongate the holes a bit. Once installed, it looks good.
Pros: Looks good once it is installed
Cons: The holes in the bracket are off by 3/32 of an inch towards the front of the unit and the dash.

Fits...with a bit of work
Scott from Kansas City, KS on 11/1/2017
Installed on a 2013 Subaru BRZ. Followed the included instructions by cutting out a bit with a dremel. The fit is not perfect, but acceptable. To get it to fit right, the OEM head unit brackets are only holding on with 2 screws (instead of 4), and these plastic filler brackets line up with only 2 holes of their own, one of which takes some wrangling to install the screw.
Pros: Serves its intended purpose
Cons: Takes a bit of custom work Head unit held less securely than before

Did not work well for my application, a 2005 Toyota Matrix. Screw mounts were too thick to go through the kit and the bracket to get a purchase on the radio. Vertical Curve in dash not matched
Owen from Tucson, AZ on 6/5/2017

Needs work. Got it to fit my car OK (2006 Scion xB), but doesn't really match the vertical curve of the dash opening (this dash kit is vertically straight while the dash curves back). About 1/8 inch difference by the time you get to the top of the radio opening. Once installed, though, you really don't notice the difference (only upon close inspection), so... Better than nothing.
Pros: Fills space to right and left of radio in dash opening
Cons: Vertical curve in dash opening is not matched.

Fits a 2014 Forester
Sandra from Silverton, OR on 5/21/2017
This is the correct install kit for a 2014 Subaru Forester. The Crutchfield site doesn't know that. It also takes a considerable amount of fab to get it to fit around the stock brackets. Much more than the instructions point out. You have to just put it together and work with it. The good news is the plastic is soft enough that you can work with it with a good pair of scissors instead of a Dremel. It is also a little flimsy once it is installed on the head unit & before it is in the dash fitted into the bezel. Be careful as it can bend or break easily. Once it is fully installed it is fine. The dash bezel keeps it nice and snug.
Pros: It fits the dash of a 2014 Forester
Cons: Takes a lot of cutting to make it attach to the head unit. It is a little flimsy until it is fully installed

The front-facing part of this works _pretty_ well, though it doesn't quite mount flush between the dash and the new deck. The bigger problem was that the pre-formed mount holes didn't fit with the JVC deck I purchased. I ended up only using one hole (would've liked to use at least two), and I had to cut off the bottom hole and cut away some of the bracket to get these to fit the deck. They're in fine now, but it could have been an easier process.
Pros: Simple, possible to modify if needed
Cons: Needed to modify to fit deck Not quite a flush fit in the dash

So be prepared to use a Dremel on these. They do NOT fit until you cut 90% of it off. Once I cut off the part that was in the way of the mounting bracket they ended up looking fine and did the job. Just in case you don't know, these fill the half inch space on the side of your deck.

Better than nothing, but the fit and finish of the panels that show is not great (rough edges / slightly different appearance from other side piece). Funny thing is the behind the scenes parts of the kit look like they are machined or molded very well. Maybe I just got a bad set... but it works!
Pros: It works. Fills in the gaps for a professional appearance. Seems like decent quality plastic.
Cons: You have to modify the bracket depending on which car you're installing them in. Fit and finish is not the best.

It is a great product.
Pros: Everything on the radio Works as I inspected it exept for the USB cable when you connect your phone as I have an iPhone I connected and it doesn't take the link and I don't know how exactly that works but doesn't recognize the link from my phone. Gaps on the side when you finish installing it it's got a couple gaps on the sides and that's kind of annoying and that's the only thing I didn't like from it
Cons: I think that the hardware for the installation needs to be rearranged so that it disappears the gap from the sides on the radio. Thanks.

The screws that came with it were too short when attaching with base support plate. Also, it leaves some gap on the side that was a bit too much for my liking.

Poor fitment
Chris F from TX on 7/12/2016
2003 Toyota Sequoia
I was awfully disappointed with this kit. It had to be cut, ground to clear the mount flange and also the surrounding structure. The instruction pictures were particularly useless. With the Pioneer deck I ordered, I had to go find longer screws and grind the length down because the kit took up too much screw length. In the end, it didn't account for the slight offset in the Sequoia radio, and there's still a gap on the far side. I'd rather pay extra for a decent kit.
Pros: It's black
Cons: Poor fit Poor instructions Could not use unit provided screws

Works well with Double Din JVC receiver once I customized the fit
Westsammvan from San Antonio, TX on 5/25/2016
2004 Toyota Sequoia
These brackets were provided free by Crutchfield so I can't really complain about them for this installation. It did take me about a half hour to figure out the fit with the stock brackets which required me to cut off the "arms" of both of these brackets in order to get everything to match up correctly. They also impeded one of the bolt holes on each side of the receiver so I couldn't use all four bolts to attach the stock brackets to the new unit. But with three bolts on each side and all four front bolts holding the unit in place I haven't had any issues with the receiver moving around. They also filled in the front gaps nicely on each side of the new receiver to provide a clean look.
Pros: FREE! Provide a clean look to the new, smaller-faced unit
Cons: Needed some trimming to fit with the existing brackets. Slightly covered a bolt hole so I couldn't use all four bolts on each side of the new unit.

Fits well and looks good, but none of the screws worked
Colin from Renton, WA on 4/19/2016
2004 Scion xA
Know that if you buy this, you'll need to spend 15 minutes reading the instructions on what portion of the dash kit needs to be trimmed off in order for it to fit correctly. Some of the modifications can be made with a hacksaw, but others require a Dremel or similar. The Sony radio I purchased came with screws with around 1/4" of threads, which is barely enough to get one thread in on the factory mounting brackets, and much too short to attach this dash kit. Unfortunately, they use a very non-standard screw (flush mount, blunt end, but with sheet metal threads). I ended up finding some machine screws that worked, but not until after I drove all over the city. Finally found something that ended up working at a local big box hardware store. This dash kit really should come with longer screws - or be flagged in Crutchfield's system to indicate that in certain stereo/car combinations, longer screws are required. It surprises me that the Sony radio came with the super-short screws, since I would imagine that 90% of all stereos require some type of dash kit which is impossible to attach using the default screws. In this case, I'm not sure whether it's the fault of the dash kit or the stereo... I'm blaming the dash kit.
Pros: Fit the dash Holes lined up perfectly Closes the gaps on both sides of the stereo
Cons: Makes it impossible to use the manufacturer-provided mounting screws. Requires hacksawing or Dremeling to install Kind of cheap looking.

Mickey S from Fredericksburg, VA on 4/13/2016
The dash kit fills the holes between the dash trim and the new receiver. It doesn't look particularly good. Especially since the left-hand piece doesn't really close the gap very well.
Pros: Right side of the kit fit very well and closes the gap between the radio and the dash trim.
Cons: The left side of the kit does not fill the gap between the dash trim and the radio. It is also loose - the design is such that it can be moved from side to side pretty easily. It also looks a little bit on the cheap side.

Does Not Fit without a lot of trimming
Shawn from Westbury, NY on 3/30/2016
2005 Toyota Matrix
I followed the instructions and was extremely disappointed with the results. They should not include the Matrix with this bracket. It does not fit at all. If you have to do a lot of trimming then the thing doesn't fit. You will end up with something that won't be custom fit and you will have to settle for a small gap on each side. If you are going to get that result then why bother buying it from here. I have bought a radio from Crutchfield in the past and had no problems. It is this model that doesn't fit with the given bracket. Just be prepared to make adjustments if you have a 2005 Matrix.
Pros: It was free
Cons: You have to trim your heart out just to get it to fit. It won't be a custom fit either.

The advised and supplied equipment was exactly what was needed to fill the gaps left over from the head unit being replaced. It looks like it grew there; both natural and professional looking.
Pros: With a simple cut, which is explained in the instructional brochure, the factory brackets do not interfere with the Metra bracket placement.
Cons: Not Metra's fault at all. Depending on your equipment model you may need to have additional hardware on hand. I discovered that both the old and purchased head unit's provided screws and or bolts did not have the length to secure both of the brackets to the new radio.

Ok after some cutting
ThomasC from Missouri on 1/2/2016
2006 Toyota Matrix
Works ok to fill in the space between the head unit and factory trim panel. However it took a good bit of modification with a Dremmel tool to make it fit around the factory brackets in my 2006 Matrix. The end result is not as tight of fit as I would have liked. Would have scored 3 stars due to the mod effort and final fit but top notch service from Crutchfield pushes it back to a 4.
Pros: It was free with the purchase of the head unit and came with good documentation.
Cons: Takes time and patience to trim, test fit, trim more & test fit again repeatedly until the desired result is achieved. Don't be in a hurry and be forewarned there will still be a small gap on either side big enough to hold a credit card. It's right on the edge of being acceptable vs unacceptable. But after all the work to get there, when I finally reached the last step and snapped in the factory trim panel I saw the gap. I voiced a few choice expletives then decided it was good enough.

In the end, it worked out and looks very good. However, to install my new Pioneer AVH-X2700BS, I had to modify these brackets. Had to cut off the ears to make it work with the factory mounts. Luckily, they were very inexpensive and easy to cut so although I was expecting a factory fit from the go, a little modification was no big deal. Like I said, the look good with a tight custom look.

Poor Quality
Roger from Florida on 9/5/2015
2004 Scion xB
Poor directions, cheap appearance and poor fit. Directions did not provide guidance on placement of what are just cheap looking trim pieces. The holes for the mounting screws are too deep for the short screws. I had to drill out the holes so the screws would did deeper into the plastic and be long enough to reach the radio.
Pros: None
Cons: Poor quality, fit and instructions. They were cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. I did unfortunately teach my son some new ways to string cuss words together as we were trying to install his radio.

Dash kit review for Toyota Matrix
Jamison from California on 8/12/2015
2008 Toyota Matrix
The side extender brackets were not properly measured to be attached with the radio mounts. The directions do not specify that this model needs them to be dremeled to fit(in fact it was one of the Toyota models not listed)--- but after enough headache and trying to get them to work after following directions countless times that was our last resort.
Pros: It had one job.
Cons: We had to dremel to get it to do that job. Instructions are vague.

Difficult getting dash back in place
BLILLIE from Arizona on 7/21/2015
2005 Scion xB
This definitely helped fill the void and fit the double din to the dash shape. However, i had some difficulty getting the dash back on correctly. The two spacers do not hug the radio and had to be wedged to get the dash back on. I had some trouble getting both sides wedged in at the same time. I'd get one side done, and then the other side would pop out. Eventually got them both in place but not after scraping and prying with a small flat head screwdriver.

sak54 from Wooster, Oh on 12/25/2014
It took me a little while to figure out how to put these on. The instruction did show how to remove the old radio. but didn't show for the Scion xB how to attach them. It show for other cars but not this one. took a little while to figure out but it looks great now. Didn't realize I was suppose to use the brackets from the old radio and attache them to the new one, the instructions didn't say anything about that. once I did figure it out, it went in very easy. I made one mistake in loosing a screw down in the back side of the dash. found another to replace it and everything went back together in a snap.
Pros: Make it look like the radio belong there
Cons: Might want to look at the instruction Manuel and make some changes or add some.

Not needed for Alpine INE-W927HD when installed in '07 Sequoia with fa
ChrisR from Wmbg, VA on 11/17/2014
I installed the Alpine INE-W927HD into my wife's '07 Sequoia with the JBL audio package. Her vehicle had the factory installed In-Dash Navigation Unit with Face Code E7006 [OEM 86120-0C160 or 86120-34030]. The mounting hardware on the factory GPS didn't have to be modified in any way to be removed and then placed on the Alpine GPS head unit. The factory mounting brackets fit on the Alpine in the exact location as the factory GPS no matter if it's measured from the top-to-bottom or front-to-back so I was able to mount the new Alpine in the Sequoia without using the Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit that came with my Crutchfield order. This made the Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit unnecessary for my aftermarket head unit installment which is the reason I gave this 5 stars because it doesn't get any easier than that. I know this isn't exactly reviewing the Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit product but I rated this high so that anyone having the same installation with a Sequoia or similar, they don't have to bother with this mounting hardware at all.
Pros: Not needed during my head unit installation process, making the replacement go much quicker.
Cons: Crutchfield could update their database to ensure certain superfluous equipment isn't sent with orders. This confuses the installation process and causes unnecessary modifications to the factory equipment/hardware. The instructions told me to grind the factory mounts' guiding pins so that they could be properly placed on the aftermarket head unit, when I didn't need to since they actually helped guide the mount on the new head unit perfectly.

I bought this dash kit to install a Pioneer AVIC-8000NEX into my 2013 Subaru BRZ Limited. It's not a drop in piece. You will have to trim some of the plastic in order to get the mounting holes to line up. Other than that, once installed, it looks fine and does what it's supposed to do.

When it came time to install, I ended up having to trim the piece to make it fit so it wasn't 100% direct fitment. Other than the trimming, I have zero issues with the dash kit.

Follow the instructions and call the great people at Crutchfield if you are stumped. Easy to install with patients. My advice is to get a 20 pack of washers for your mounting bolts to the dash and you can space your deck out and perfectly to match your stock location. A $3 trick to make a pro install.
Pros: Matches most dashes perfectly. Tight spacing to decks. Free with purchase of deck.
Cons: Fits many vehicles, so be patient to get your fit looking factory installed.

Does the job
crosscro from Escondido, CA on 9/15/2013
2004 Toyota Highlander
Basically this was just two filler pieces for the sides of the new double din unit, as Toyotas original radio, was wider than the new unit and these were filler pieces. While they did the job, as intentioned, the pieces didn't match up with any of the holes (in back) in either the new unit or the original brackets, so they essentially are held in place.
Pros: Does the job, basically for what it was made for.
Cons: No common holes in bracket or unit to attach to unit when installed. Realize that with so many variations in units and cars, these might be considered universal in that they fill the space in the sides as intended.

Overall Very Good
p g from Easton, PA on 7/31/2013
2005 Toyota 4Runner
Overall this is a decent unit. The fit behind and around the the dashboard was perfect as was the angle of the head unit, which in this case was a Pioneer FH-X700BT. The seams between the factory trim and this unit was flawless. The color is semi-gloss black which also matches well with most headunits currently available. The reason for four star rating is due to the fitment around the headunit itself. The inside lines of this unit are perfectly straight so you will only achieve a perfect fit with the headunit if it too has perfectly vertical side walls. In the case of the Pioneer FH-X700BT this fit was not perfect because its sides have a slight curve to them. Thus, this unit made contact at the center line of the headunit but gadually opened to a 1/16th gap as you approached the top and bottom. That said it was consistent on both sides and still has a very professional finish. At the end of the day I would recommend this unit.
Pros: Easy to install Color Matches Blends with dashboard perfectly Blends with straight sided headunits perfectly
Cons: Does not blend very well with curved sided headunits

TimP from Fort Collins, CO on 3/5/2013
2006 Toyota Matrix
Kit supported an acceptable installation of an Alpine INA-W910 Navigation Receiver in a 2006 Toyota Matrix. Requires some adept trimming modifications with the correct Dremel bits for proper fit to the (required) mounting brackets from the OEM radio. If you are not experienced with this finesse work, get some help. Once trimmed properly, installation is a breeze. While the sides of the visible plastic trim pieces are well fitted to the curved outline of the car's bezel, there is a small space visible at the top of the radio once installed that is not perfect, but to the casual eye is not objectionable.
Pros: Good adapter for Matrix with some finesse plastic modifications.

Initially it was difficult to determine which kit to purchase. The site kept coming up with a kit that I couldn't figure out how it could possibly work. I almost purchased the wrong kit and ultimately my selection was a pure guess.
Pros: Product modification, as stipulated in the instructions, and the Installation was easy to perform
Cons: Provided screws were too short by about 1/32". Was able to get all but one to work, however, I to get a slightly longer one our of my supplies; never throw anything away.

The kit worked well. Was easily installed on the tuner and fit the hole in the dash.
Pros: nice design matches the texture of the dash perfectly.
Cons: it's a little cheap in design by the way it attaches to the tuner. one side didnt want to stay in place but was still easy to install and fit perfectly. For a free item this is not a big deal at all.

The final touch
RobertG714 from Fullerton, CA on 9/18/2012
At 1st I was nervous cutting off the holes that the paper tells me to cut, but I did and was pleased. It took some time to adjust the holes that I needed for them to go into that way my radio would look flush.
Pros: Easy to understand
Cons: None

Good with some modification
SeanM from Boston, MA on 9/4/2012
2007 Toyota Matrix
Installed in a 2007 Toyota Matrix. The instructions that came with it were not all that helpful, especially the part about taking a grinder to some unspecified part of the factory mounting brackets to get the kit to sit flush. Sure, I have a Dremel and the grinding stone, but cutting away some pieces of the plastic kit pieces seemed a whole lot faster and easier than grinding the metal brackets. In the end I spent a few minutes with a utility knife whittling away little pieces of plastic off on one of the kit's pieces, and had to remove a much larger chunk on the other of the kit's pieces. So it works, it doesn't quite look "factory" but it's not noticeable unless you stare, and it's really the only option for installing a double din unit into a 2007 Matrix, so there you go.
Pros: Pretty much the only option for my car. Looks okay no that it's in
Cons: Had to do a lot of trimming to get it to fit right. Instructions totally not helpful.

Metra 95-8202 Dash Kit
ScottB from Plainfield, IL on 8/14/2012
2007 Toyota Highlander
For what it is, it is fine. The holes on the brackets didn't match the holes on the stereo unit, so we had to do some McGuyver work to make it happen.
Pros: Closes up the gaps on the side of the unit.
Cons: Holes on brackets did not match the units, ingenuity required to make it work.

Terrible design for the Matrix
Mike from Beverly Hills, FL on 5/23/2012
2005 Toyota Matrix
WOW. This thing didn't line up with any of the holes on factory brackets in my Toyota Matrix. I had to snap them in half and was just barely able to get one screw on each side to hold these in place. It's like it would have almost lined up but I would have had to use a hacksaw on part of the bracket to make it work. Structurally it's not ideal but at least aesthetically (which is what your going for with a dash kit) it looks decent. The instructions do say you need a dremel. But I don't recall seeing that anywhere on Crutchfield's website.
Pros: surrounds the gap left by an aftermarket double din stereo.
Cons: See Above.

Not Perfect
Daniel T. from Vandenberg AFB, CA on 3/22/2012
2004 Toyota 4Runner
Very well might be a better fit with most radio's and vehicles but was not great by any means in my '04 Toyota 4Runner. I think it was the moving faceplate that affected the look of the radio itself because these pieces are at the back of the face and don't come flush. The pieces also didn't come flush with the original trim around the head unit either, the pieces stuck out about 3/8" from the back of the trim so it looked odd not being flush with the base or outer trim around the head unit.
Pros: Simple and quick installation.
Cons: Too universal for more specific applications.

Almost perfect
Sam P from Wichita, KS on 10/9/2011
2004 Toyota 4Runner
The two side pieces left about a half millimeter of gap at the top and bottom of the dash. It's not a full surround kit so that was probably a given. However there's some small gap to the left and right. Not much it's very minor. But that's probably due to the trim plastics because it's not a snug fit so I'll have to work it again until it sits right. So only 4 stars because I have to keep working at it to get it to sit just right.

Worked in 2006 Highlander
ChrisO from Omaha, NE on 12/14/2010

Not much to say other than it worked fine with the Pioneer DVD/Radio I also bought from CF. Had to notch the back of the bracket a little, but nothing had to be done to the cosmetic part of the bracket. It doesn't look perfect but doesn't look bad at all; there is no way you could make one bracket that would look perfect with every radio out there.

Not Quite Perfect
Michael W. from Los Angeles, CA on 10/3/2010
2002 Toyota Highlander
The screws supplied with the Sony unit don't work when used in combination with the Factory bracket and Toyota mounting kit; they're too short by a couple of threads, Longer hardware should be supplied when using the mounting kit and factory brackets together. The (pardon the expression) plastic surgery needed to make the brackets work with my Highland was easily done with a utility knife.

Instructions did not call for any modification to the mounts, but they would not fit properly until I used both a Dremel tool and a utility knife to trim it down to allow for a flush fit. Normally the Cruthfield kits work as advertised, but this time I had to spend some time to make it fit right.

It does take a little work..
Jamey from Signal Mountain, TN on 11/20/2008
2005 Toyota Sequoia
The mount for my Toyota Highlander required a little extra work and a lot of patients. The instructions aren't entirely accurate and trimming is required. After I inverted the brackets from the way it was shown in the manual, and trimmed them as well, they still didn't sit well in the vehicle. I ended up bending my factory metal brackets to tilt-up the Pioneer so it split the gap (top/bottom). I would consider this one of the worst aftermarket mounts among those I've used and it is by no means designed specifically for the Highlander.

Fits, but you'll have to work with it
JRB from Boise, ID on 4/21/2007
2006 Scion tC
When installing this kit into my 2006 Scion Tc, I ran into some problems. The original installation instructions really don't work well with my vehicle. A double-din stereo will mount, but your cover won't close and you'll have issues with a large (3/4 inch) gap above your deck. Thankfully, I was getting component speakers installed and a professional was able to get the kit to work with about an hour's extra work. Basically, it'll work, but it's not exactly easy.
