If Pioneer radio, read this.
Larry from Fountain Hills, AZ on 3/25/2024
1999 GMC Sierra 1500
One attachment snap broken on arrival. Dash fit great. Instructions, fasteners not applicable for Pioneer radios. Installation for a 1999 GMC Sierra 1500 requires self tapping screws not provided or mentioned. I called tech support, and they knew Pioneer needed different fasteners. Luckily, I had some that worked, and also did a workaround for broken snap.
Pros: Great dash fit.
Cons: Not correct fasteners for Pioneer radio.

Ended up throwing this kit in the trash The screws supplied were too short and the directions also were too confusing. I spent more time trying various combinations of the kit to hopefully get it to work with no success. Luckily my previous stereo had an earlier version of the Meta adapter so I just took it off the old and installed it on the new.
Pros: none
Cons: short screws, crappy directions

Good kit, but with a couple issues
Robert from Mckinney, TX on 8/8/2022
1997 Chevrolet Express
The install kit had directions that needed a translator. I never did figure out what shaft supports were (that I was told to cut off in step one). The screws provided were not long enough to fasten the radio using the side panels in the kit. I had to buy some longer ones. Other than those two things, the kit is pretty amazing, having parts, including the new connector, that make it an easy install.
Pros: Super easy to install. Everything needed in the kit.
Cons: Directions lack clarity Screws supplied were too short

The reason I went with this one was it's a 1 piece unit. The ones you have to assemble, as far as I'm concerned are junk and don't seem sturdy enough. It literally took me 15 minutes to have my dash face off, factory stereo out and the new one installed.

Needs longer bolts
Crutchfield customer from Smithfield, VA on 12/6/2020

Kit fits fine but don't understand how it comes with bolts that barely clear its own bracket let alone thread into the radio. Had to purchase longer bolts for installation. Not a knock on Crutchfield just on the kit itself.
Pros: Fitment is fine
Cons: Did I mention the bolts?

Issues with Supplied Hardware
Crutchfield customer from Andalusia, AL on 11/16/2020
This kit could have been a great choice for installing the Kenwood radio. However, The screws that came in the kit were too short to mount the radio. The screws were short because the mounting holes on the radio were slightly recessed. Had we installed the radio remotely like we initially planned we would have not been able to complete the install. Thankfully we had access to extra hardware.
Pros: Nice kit!
Cons: If your radio has slightly recessed mounting holes the supplied screws will not be long enough.

Well made product, does exactly as advertised. The fit to the dash was excellent.
Pros: Easy to install, documentation was adequate.
Cons: Not exactly what I was searching for. This product, works as described, however, is a compromise in the location of the single DIN in the center of the 1.5 DIN space. Would have preferred an option to mount the single DIN at the top or bottom of the 1.5 DIN space, but was unable to locate such product.

The kit fit nicely into the original holder for my Sierra, however, the hardware was missing. We had to go out and buy screw for it. The mount didn't firmly hold my radio, either, but this was remedied by using the provided foam strips to fill the gap.
Pros: Flush with dash Flawlessly slid and locked into place
Cons: Missing screws Loose fit for stereo Instructions not so clear

Screws too short, beware!
David from Mount Kisco, NY on 3/5/2018
2000 Chevrolet Suburban
Screws too short to mount radio, requiring a visit to the hardware store. This is the major reason for the 1 star. From other reviews I see that I am not alone, but in the minority with this problem. Plastic bezel warped, making it extra difficult to insert radio. After radio inserted, plastic is still bent, causing gaps in the faceplate.
Pros: Ultimately assembled ok.
Cons: Screws too short. Poor fit and finish.

Chevy/GMC Pickup/Astro Kit
Crutchfield customer from Choctaw, OK on 12/25/2017
1996 Chevrolet Suburban
Mine came with a cracked leg due to poor packing, yes I could have called Crutchfield and waited another day for the part to show up, but I had my dash half torn apart before I realized the problem. Also a cold front was moving in the next day so I superglue it and so far its okay. The instructions are terrible the illustrations are small and hard to understand, the front side has a couple of vans listed and the back side has nothing about my suburban or heck even a truck would be close enough for me. I tried to use the van side instructions without success and then realized that the screws they send with this kit are about 1/8'' short. Also no matter how I configure the square pieces there is a gap between the face plate. At this point I'm getting angry about something that should be easy. I installed a similar radio in my 93 Chevy and it was a straight forward easy process. This bracket on the other hand took me three tries to finally get it together with superglue, shims, and screws I had to dig up. Crutchfield needs to work on shipping. I made a video when I opened the box because I was so excited about my purchase, but then much of that excitement turned to confusion and frustration when #1 the wrong speakers were in the box #2 putting two pairs of speakers and a head unit in the same box broke my plastic dash kit. #3 No packing slip. This could have prevented the mistake. They did have good customer service but I'd rather not have to use it.
Pros: Looks nice once installed
Cons: Everything else. Couldn't figure out where the foam strips went. Instructions are terrible. Prone to cracking in shipping because it is protected by a plastic bag (no box). Wrong sized screws! Honestly assembling this kit was the hardest part of my install. I see all these "it was easy reviews". Wrong, and I've installed dozens of radio's over the years.

The screws provided with this kit are to short to fit Kenwood Excelon KDC-X302 stereo. These are the screws you are suppose to use for the side mounting brackets. They are not long enough to go through the kit material and into the radio chassis like they are suppose to. Overall the kit worked well but needs longer screws for this particular Kenwood radio.

This kit came with my new Kenwood in dash cd player. Good kit for installing head unit for my 1995 Chevy Suburban, EXCEPT, the inclosed 5mm x 8mm screws (4) were too short to mount the side pieces to the cd chassis. If your cd player mounting holes are flush then you are good to go. But, as in my case, the Kenwood mounting holes are recessed. So off to the nearest hardware store to purchase 4 5mm x 10mm screws. 30 mile round trip in my case.

Pros: Eliminates all gaps around head unit, perfect color match, smoothly aligns in factory mount rails

Great plug and play installation kit
Crutchfield customer from Saddle Brook, NJ on 11/14/2016

This kit was a breeze to install. I haven't used any of the additional parts (just the main radio bezel). New stereo's sleeve mounted right up and due to the GM construction (no screws) I was able to slide the kit into the dashboard. Without careful looking, it would be hard to see that the kit is not part of the original dash. I would definitely recommend this kit.
Pros: Easy installation, great looks, no problems at all

works well - poor instructions
Cody from Maple Lake, MN on 10/11/2016

This kit does what it is supposed to do - lets your aftermarket radio live in the stock radio space. However - the instructions suck, just so you are aware. As long as you are even minutely able to figure things out, you wont have a problem though. Good quality, no other issues other than poor instructions. Enjoy!
Pros: it works
Cons: instructions leave a lot to be desired

Made installation a breeze as long as you use the sleeve that comes with the radio. I tried to use the side plates and screws that came with the kit but the screws were to short to grip the radio. My guess is that they didn't take into account that the threaded holes on the radio were recessed.
Pros: Came with everything needed. Using the supplied sleeve that came with the radio works well. Slides right into place in the truck. No interference issues.
Cons: Screws to short for the side brackets that were supplied.

As was stated in several other reviews that I read, unit snaps in perfectly once you find some other screws to use besides the ones that come in the kit that are about 1/4" too short. The rough texture does not match the texture of the dash components around it, but looks okay. No tools required other than a Phillips screwdriver. You can have your radio in less than 10 minutes.
Pros: Fits perfect.
Cons: Screws supplied are too short.

Great products from Metra.
SteveS. from placentia, CA on 1/27/2016
2000 GMC Sierra 1500
I give it 5 stars because all of Metra's products are well thought out for each vehicle (in my experience, anyway). I used the 99-4000 for my 2000 GMC Sierra single cab instead of the 99-3002 provided. I didn't want the radio centered, wasting the space around it. I like the little slot under radio to put a jewel case in which the 99-4000 provides. The kit is exactly the same as the 99-3002, except that it moves the unit a little higher providing the slot underneath. There are no clearance problems behind the dash, and still plenty of room for cooling .
Pros: Great install kit! These kits plain ol' simplify the installation of any head unit. It just depends on where you want the unit; centered, or higher with a slot underneath.
Cons:

GMC Dash Kit
Ed de from Virginia on 11/9/2015
2000 GMC Sierra 2500
The kit was relatively easy to install. It took a bit to match the fit of the Kenwood radio to the mounting hardware because the screws that came in the kit weren't the thread type or length needed to hold the radio firmly. Other than that everything went smoothly.
Pros: Easy to Install.
Cons: Needed different screws than those provided. GM products of that year have huge factory radios. The mounting kit could have moved the radio up or down rather than centering & added a storage area to make good use of space.

Works well but there is a minor problem
Mike from Livermore, California on 7/8/2015
2001 GMC Sierra 1500
I used this kit to install a Pioneer radio in my GMC truck. The kit fits very well in the dash and there is room in the adapter above the radio to drill a hole to mount the microphone for the Bluetooth phone feature but there is one problem. The screws provided with the kit do not work with the Pioneer radio mounting holes--the thread pitch is wrong. I had to modify the plastic brackets in order to use the screws that came with the radio. Not a problem if you have tools but the right screws should be in the kit.
Pros: Looks nice when completed. Fit perfectly in the dash. Sturdy construction that should last.
Cons: Not all of the necessary screws were provided.

Did the job even with no instructions.
Bryan from California on 4/8/2015
1997 Chevrolet Suburban
Well, this did the job of fitting a single-DIN radio into my 1997 Chevy Suburban. However, it ended up being a bit of a Lego puzzle -- lots of peices, not all of them necessary, and no instructions on what goes where. Through trial and error, I ended up figuring out 2-3 different ways to fit the radio into the adapter. Not all were ideal, so I settled on the one that seemed right even though it meant bending some tabs on the sleeve that came with the radio. Once I had the radio in the adapter, the whole thing slid easily into the dash.
Pros: Fits well. Looks good.
Cons: No instructions. Needed a lot of trial and error to figure out the solution.

Very Nice
Daren in New Mexico from Las Cruces, NM on 3/4/2015
2001 GMC Yukon
The install went very well though not flawlessly. I think I may have a wire out of place because the gas tank level indicator flips all the way to the right past full when the tanks nears empty.that never happened before. A Crutchfield technician "Travis" said I should call for him when I have the unit removed so we can check the wiring together. Removing the old unit and installing the new one was easy with the right panel removal tools. My old unit had an extra set of cables in the back that I left hanging in the back after the install but Travis said it was probably for OnStar that I do not have installed. Did not use all the pieces and there were no instructions saying this might happen. Forgot to use the thin foam sticky pads but there is no rattling post install and I drive 1/2 mile down a bumpy dirt road to get home.
Pros: Appearance post install. Build quality
Cons: Not knowing what all the pieces were used for.

I bought this to fit on my GMC Safari van. I am using the Clarion FZ 150. Overall ease of installation was good. However, I'm not sure if it had to do with the radio or the kit, the clips on the back of the radio connecting to the dash kit had a bit of space so it is very slightly loose. However, it is hardly noticeable nowthat I am using it regularly
Pros: Price, ease of use
Cons: Radio a bit loose

OK - I NEED THIS?
TONY from HOUSTON, TX on 6/16/2014
2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Instructions call fro the receiver sleeve to mounted to the frame and the tabs pushed in to hold in place. MMMM - that doesn't work so well. The only tabs that would work and hold the receiver in place were some really small thin tabs on top and underneath the receiver. The accual tabs that are beefier and on the sides would not work.
Pros: Needed it for the change out from stock radio. Without it would have a big hole where the receiver goes.
Cons: HELP!!!!! A redesign of the tab placement would be helpful in future releases. I would use this again if I was replacing the radio.

Got the jobe done.
Amorak from San Jose, CA on 12/12/2013
It works.
Pros: Had everything I needed.
Cons: Lots of extra pieces. Had to figure out which ones I needed and which I didn't. Metal tabs that actually hold the stereo in are VERY flimsy. It would probably be easy to just rip the whole stereo out of the dash.

In-dash Receiver Kit for 2000 GMC Sierra
Mark from Northern CA on 11/21/2013
2000 GMC Sierra 2500
Perfect fit. Easy to follow instructions. I was very concerned how I would install single DIN radio to replace stock dual DIN radio in 2000 GMC Sierra. The installation looks like it was done by professional, but was actually installed by my me and my daughter.
Pros: simple, straightforward. Anyone could install a radio with this kit. The black matched my stock dash. Instructions to remove dash trim and existing radio were perfect and specific for my year, model, and make of vehicle.
Cons: Can't think of one.

Looks Good installed in 01 Silverado. Came free with stereo along with wire harness and antenna adapter. Installed stereo to the receiver kit along with free wire connector while sitting at kitchen table. The Crutchfield kit made my new stereo installation basically plug and play. Only took about 5 minutes at the truck to remove the old stereo and install the new one. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Pros: Looks Great, fit perfectly in 01 silverado stock stereo mounting. Awesome product.

Good product. Fit as desired. It was a bit low on the left side but nothing a few shims couldn't level out.
Pros: Good fit. Just had to add a few home made cardboard shims to the left side to level it out but worked great other than that.
Cons: The rough finish on the front I did not care for. Sanded it down to a smoth finish with an orbital sander and then polished it. Now it looks good in my dash.

The installation kit was fine except for two things which would have made it better. Including crimp connectors would have helped so I didn't need to run to pick some up after I had disconnected the battery. Also the bezel provide was not quite large enough to fill the opening in the dash. There is about a 1/8" gap at the top of the bezel.

Nice Kit
RJG from Bordentown, NJ on 10/28/2012
Installed a Kenwood CD/Receiver in my 2000 GMC Sierra 4dr truck. Watching a You Tube video in advance of dash removal was really beneficial. The in-dash receiver kit provided by Crutchfield was easy to figure out and assemble. For my application, I placed the receiver into the receiver kit before installation and connected the wiring harnesses and antenna adapters first. As you start to slide the completed assembly into the dash, take the time to adjust the wire bundles behind the receiver while sliding the assembled unit into the dash. Tie wrap loose bundles to prevent noise from vibration. The install looked professional once the dash was put back together. Total time to install was about 1.5 hours.

Decent kit
Andy from Bloomington, IN on 6/20/2012
Really easy kit to install, straightforward directions. Solidly mounts the head unit in the dash with no fuss. Not sure it could be any different but centering the single DIN hole in the old radio hole looks a little odd. I have seen other kits that move the single DIN hole up and include a small storage cubby hole below, which would be great for an iPod. Of course, that's splitting hairs.
Pros: ease of installation, drops right in with no effort. Solid mount.

My only real issue is that gap between the AC controls, the vent, the cubby hole, and the dash surround is a bit larger than I would like. The way it fits there's really no way to massage it to get a better fit.

Fit and finish is great
Pros: Fills the hole left by the factory stereo perfectly.
Cons: Radio mounting rail instructions are a little confusing. Ended up screiing everything in place.

Satisfied
Spaul from Illinois on 7/31/2011
1997 Chevrolet Tahoe
Overall, I'm satisifed. Definitely fit my vehicle. Easy to use. The instructions could have been a bit better in terms of installing the radio in the kit. While the kit fit good in my dash, it's support of the actual stereo was a bit shallow, only really supporting the front of the stereo and leaving the rear to wobble somewhat. I was hoping to install the stereo without having to rig up some type of rear support somewhere within my dash, but it was unavoidable. I would think this kit could be updated to provide the rear support that most radio's require.

2002 Chevrolet Avalanche
This was my first stereo install. Fit my 2002 Avalanche without issues. I ended up using the optional spacer to give me a bit more room behind the radio. Only complaint is the that the sleeve tabs are the only thing holding the radio in the mount. First time I installed, I didn't bend the tabs to make sleeve tight enough in the mount. Radio was bouncing all over the place when I hit bumps. Took everything out and rebent the tabs to be tight as possible then shimmed it up with some carboard. I imagine it will come loose again over time but given how easy it is to pull the radio in my truck, I am not overly concerned.

Pdub from Michigan on 7/2/2011
1996 Chevrolet C Series
I'm a certified ASE mechanic with 2 university degrees but this part of the installation kit was the most confusing. It fits several models so there are multiple solutions and parts that you may or may not use. The directions for this kit weren't model specific so I had to trial-and-error what parts to use. It wasn't obvious. Eventually I figured it out, but the directions could have been better. For my application, (1996 Chevy Ct500 Pickup), the rear and side supports aren't used. That seemed wrong to have the rear of the radio hanging unsupported, but it didn't work with any combination of the supports. The radio is (apparently) just held in place by the bent up sleeve tabs. If that's wrong, the directions didn't show exactly what parts to use and how they fit for each vehicle configuration. So far I haven't had any problems. Not a bad kit, just could have been better documented.

I used this in my '95 Chevy Tahoe. I didn't have to use the extra peices, but I did use the extender to give a little extra room behind the head unit. The kit slides in and out so easily. The finish looks good too. Matches the other black plastics in the dash.

Instructions don't match the parts
Glenn from Northern Virginia on 3/23/2011
The kit I received looks exactly like the one pictured. It has two plastic plates that screw to the sides of the unit and hold it in the frame. I had a hard time finding a set of holes that matched between these plates and the JVC receiver I was installing, but eventually did manage to line them up. Other than that alignment issue, the kit is very easy to use. The instruction sheet that was packed with the kit referred to a completely different style of installation. It referred to a sleeve that the receiver would slice into that would then lock into the frame, serving the same purpose as the 2 plastic side plates. I think the new style is generally easier and safer to install, but the mismatched instruction sheet certainly left me scratching my head for a while.

The adapter works well and fits correctly. It would be nice if it offset the radio so you could have a storage compartment above or below it. The opening it covers is huge and now the space is wasted. There could be plenty of room for an iPod or iPhone but the offset was not available. Also the finish is a black color and texture that does not look anything like any other finish on the dash. It works as a fit for every GM vehicle in the decade but it is definitely not a custom part.

This adapter makes the installation of an aftermarket deck much easier and the finshed product looks seamless. The adapter is a must have for any aftermarket installation and adapts a standard DIN interface deck to fit in the DIN and A Half opening in GM's 1995-2001 dashes in their trucks. This adapter works in other GM Vehicles, but I used it in my 95 GMC Sierra. Deck clips in, and the adapter snaps into the dash.

CodyT from Tucson, AZ on 10/9/2009
Worked as promised. I had to use the extender ring for my Pioneer head unit, so it sticks out a tad. But it still looks good and I'm very pleased. The adapter clicks in just like the factory head unit. The only problem I had was making everything fit tight with the extender ring installed. I had to really work with some needlenose pliers to pull the little metal tabs tight. If your head unit will fit without the extender ring it will look much nicer and fit tighter. But it works and looks fine with the ring as well!

Mine arrived with one of the clips that secures it in the dash detached. I clipped it back in, but it didn't take much force to pull it back out. Rather than send it back, I just used some epoxy on it to hold it in. Other than this poor quality control issue, it worked good. Nice that there is a trim ring included. This allows you an alternative mounting depth.

The in-dash installation kit made my installation a breeze. I've done installation jobs for myself and my family six I was 18; wrapping vinyl over sheet metal and shaping pieces of wood to make it look nice. This kit slides right into the original slot, no cutting, no shaping. The entire installation (including putting the truck under a shade tree, dragging out the toolbox and reding the instructions) took 45 minutes.

The install kit definitely makes the installation of the new CD Player (Clarion DB285USB) easy. It only took about 2 minutes to secure the unit into the kit. Most of the time is used to figure out which tab from the DIN to bend. Once you do that, just slide the new CD player to the opening. It will snap very snuggly. Note that there are more parts unneeded, so make sure you don't try to use it. If in doubt, the Crutchfield support is excellent also. Then, we need to get the suburban cover off. Once you get the cover off, you can press the tab of the factory radio to remove it. Disconnect all the cable and connect the soldered harness adapter provided by Crutchfield. Connect them to the new unit, slide it in and it is installed. Test the unit before replacing the cover. It takes probably about 10 minutes to do it. Thanks for providing the kit and great service.

This came free with my Sony CDX-GT920U, but it did not work properly. I was unable to bend up the tabs on the mounting sleeve that came with the Sony CDX-GT920U, which meant that my stereo would not be secured at all. The tabs ended up being covered completely, even when not using the spacer ring. I used an old receiver kit that came with an old in-dash DVD player that I had tried previously. (THE UNIT WAS ABYSMAL!!! WORST WASTE OF MONEY EVER!!!) Anyways, using that kit I was able to mount my stereo (Sony CDX-GT920U) securely. I am sure it could be blamed on Sony, but these units are made to work with all stereos, so Sony shouldn't have to cater to this kit.

If you are buying a Pioneer head unit, keep in mind that if you use the Extension Ring included in this kit, it may not be able to securely hold the mounting sleeve included with your head unit.
