Love the dash kits
Jerry from Gilroy, CA on 11/27/2022
1999 Chevrolet S10
Can't say enough about the dash kits. They fit like they're supposed to. They dont look cheap or clunky like they're barely hanging on. I've installed at least 5 and haven't had any that looked weird. Instructions for the disassembly make it dumby proof. Couldn't ask for a better or easier alternative. Type in the vehicle you're working on and you will not get the wrong part. A quick cable adapter connection and reassembly and done. Thanks guys for all you do, especially for the patience of the guys showing the dissembling process step by step, and taking pictures.
Pros: I've mentioned a bunch of pros...
Cons: I cant think of any cons except for the delivery carrier, couldn't find the house...didnt look, more like. Had to wait an extra two days because of thanksgiving.

Meh - NOT as high quality as the Scosche kits
Thomas from Grapevine, TX on 9/1/2022
2002 Chevrolet Corvette
Meh - NOT as high quality as the Scosche kit which I purchased previously - but this came as part of Crutchfield's installation kit & to be truthful - was in a hurry to swap out another 1 din radio I was having major issues with & due to the way I had mounted the previously said radio - couldn't re-use the Scosche & didn't want to order & wait for another Scosche ... "may" @ some point go with a Humount.com - MAPtech Enterprises Bezel - however - they are expensive - CNC Aluminum & drop dead beautifully finished - however - for now - this Metra kit is just gotta do ... NOTE: Installed in 2003 C5 Corvette ...
Pros: Easy / Simple mount
Cons: Not finished well / doesn't blend smoothly with the dash / looks like 70's plastic - not even close to OEM

Metra housing was too thick from front to back.
Crutchfield customer from Bowie, MD on 5/4/2021
The distance from the mounting ears to the front of the Metra housing is greater than the distance from the mounting ears to the front of the OEM radio. As a result, the installed housing protrudes out further than the HVAC unit. Therefore, the top of my corvette's trim panel console does not sit flush with the lower portion of the dash. This difference in width between the housing and the OEM radio geometrically makes it impossible for the Metra housing to sit out in alignment with how the HVAC unit sits out. That was a disappointment.

Faceplate review
don from BALLSTON SPA, NY on 4/6/2020
2003 Chevrolet Corvette
Once I figured out to remove the stereo install chassis and install it backwards through the faceplate, it secured the stereo from wiggling around. Prior to that it was loose and didnt fit right. Nothing in the directions told me to do that, that I saw. Just figured it out by messing with it. I painted it with tan upholstery paint to match my interior.
Pros: Made up the difference for the DIN and a 1/2 stereo I took out.
Cons: Needs additional instruction to secure stereo.

Great fit - as always!
Sagehen from California on 10/14/2013

The instructions to make this fit my specific car, as always, were spot-on. Thanks for making it so simple! My only wish would be that regardless of what harnesses/etc. were provided for the electrical connections, a pin-by-pin, wire-by-wire explanation of the factory harness was also provided, since I had a bugger of a time finding the dimmer and constant power leads (and ended up bypassing the factory harness to make it work).
Pros: Looks great, blends perfect with the factory dash
Cons: Nothing with the kit, just the instructions lacking the factory wiring description (mentioned above).

Excellent, as usual

1999 Chevrolet Blazer
If you've ever tried to use "universal" mounting brackets, you likely rattled off several choice words in the process. Not with Crutchfield's mounting brackets! I've been using their products for about 20 years now and I can always count on their stuff to be top notch. These mounting brackets are wonderful; they're designed specifically for your vehicle, so be sure to specify exactly what type of vehicle you're working on! You can't go wrong Other reviewers had mentioned desiring a bracket that didn't require cutting - if they did this, it would arrive broken every single time. The pieces that are required to be cut help stabilize that fragile spacer - some snips & a pocket knife work very well.
Pros: Durable, perfect design, easy to use, nice clean look
Cons: price

for C5 Corvette
PhatVette from cactus land on 1/5/2013
1999 Chevrolet Corvette
The bezel is perfect, holes line up to factory spots. The spacer is optional. The spacer, if used, isn't visible at all. The middle plastic parts need to be cut free for the newer stereo chassis(DIN)....hobby saw and box cutter...cut, score and snap. With today's techy cars, a carbonfiber texture version would have been nice.
Pros: Works, strong construction. Inexpensive. Clean and simple.
Cons: none.

2003 Sonoma
MJF from Louisiana on 1/5/2013
2003 GMC Sonoma
I wanted a simple kit. I do not believe the dash itself is different from single to double DIN radios, the difference is the dash face. For my truck, originally DDIN (RDS) dash and now with SDIN (non-RDS) dash face, this kit is unusable. The width, and mounting configuration, is sufficient to ensure it will not be usable no matter how it is modified for this dash.
Pros: Pro's - The kit isn't that bad, thick plastic with a decent pattern.
Cons: Cons - it does not line up with any existing mounting points, either holes or posts. The piece is physically too wide to fit into the dash opening. I will not be trying to 'make it work' since the plate is only about 1/8" taller than the opening and that is just a guaranteed headache.

Throw it out
Jason from Gaithersburg MD on 12/14/2012

This is as ugly as you can imagine. Are you really going to install a slick looking receiver in a nice looking car and have something as ugly as this taking your attention away? If Crutchfield wanted to throw in something, they should throw in the $10 receiver kit that is widely available. It is sculpted and contains a 1/2" storage area - something that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. It takes the large space of the old unit and breaks it up in way that does not make it obvious that you have gone from large to small.
Pros: NONE.
Cons: Ugly as sin.

chico94 from aynor sc on 4/10/2012
worked out great in my truck. i purchased a universal dit kit and just looked very bulky but i ordered this kit and it looks clean and flush and holds the radio in place (no movement). I do audio installing for a hobby and i have to say this was the easiest thing i believe i have ever installed in my truck. Crutchfield is #1 in my book...
Pros: clean look
Cons: clips i had to cut out gave me a little trouble but are easier to remove with wire cutters then a box cutter.. Just sayin

I got this kit with my purchase to put a Sony deck in my 2000 Corvette. I was worried at first, because the packaging said S10 / GMC Jimmy, but, I followed the instructions, and slid the deck into it, secured it properly and it fit like a glove in my dash. Looks great, did just what it was supposed to.
Pros: Free with purchase, sturdy, installs easy
Cons: breaking off some of the tabs can be tricky, use a real sharp exacto

Did not work for me
Steve from Meridianville AL on 3/30/2012
I ordered to make a 1 DIN radio fit a 1 1/2 DIN hole in a Winnebago Moter home. This kit will not fit a 1 !/2 DIN hole......Too big. I cut and made it fit somewhat, but there were holes in the side and it looked like crap. I junked it and got a kit from another retailer for older GMC autos, and it worked fine and looks great. I would have sent this one back, but I had chopped it up too much. I whish I had been told it would not fit a true 1 1/2 DIN hole.
Pros: Probably fit the listed autos......
Cons: Not for true 1 1/2 DIN hole.

Everything works fine. removing the dash panel was a little more difficult than I anticipated, but that had nothing to do with your instructions. Cheap, but gets the job done
JeffS from Killeen, TX on 10/2/2010
2000 GMC Sonoma
Found this adapter to be cheap and behind the times. I made it work for a single DIN modern car stereo installation by deliberate modification with aid of the instructions. Instructions required cutting of plastic stems primarily designed for a cassette tape deck. Cannot really complain too much, since it was included free with the purchase. However, that said, I think its about time to sell/include a product that doesn't require modification from an antique design to fit a modern single DIN car stereo.

Not for 98 Blazer
Crutchfield customer from RI on 1/20/2010
1998 Chevrolet Blazer
I bought this kit for a 98 blazer. The plate itself is nice, and matched well with the dash. It's relatively thick, and aligns nicely with the stock mounting holes. I don't know if my problem was a result of my Sony receiver being too long (deep), but the receiver would not go in without either angling the back of the receiver upward, or I would have to remove/alter the rear mounting bracket within the dash. Because of the double-din size of the factory radio, this shouldn't be that difficult to do. I found a better kit where the receiver opening was more toward the top, and a better fit for the radio, but clearly an inferior product.

Fits 1998 Cavalier with some modding
I used this kit for a custom install of a Kenwood HD-942U on my 1998 Cavalier. I had to cut away a bit of the factory radio pocket at the very back of the opening, and with this kit the radio is nice and flush with the dash. Nothing I cut away is visible with the radio installed, so no big deal. I also used a backstrap on the radio to be sure it was nice and secure, and difficult to remove for a thief. This kit is not listed as a fit for the Cavalier, probably because of the necessary mods to the factory dash. The recomended kit for my car sticks out of the dash 1" and I did not like how it looked. This kit will give you a much more professional install job.

essential and good, but what's with the extra parts?
Matt from RI on 3/23/2009
1998 Chevrolet S10
The main bracket is right on the money, matches the dash texture OK and fits perfectly. I didn't need the shaft-style decorative plate of course. What's with the trim ring, though? The instructions said to use it under the DIN sleeve, but that made the lip of the galvanized DIN sleeve visible around the periphery of the stereo unit, and the unit itself stuck out stupidly from the dash. I removed the DIN sleeve after having it all fully installed and then took out the dumb trim ring, then reinstalled the sleeve into the main bracket itself. NOW it looks professional with only the stereo visible and with the stereo controls flush with the bracket and dash. Anyway, great bracket, sort of dumb instructions.

Does not fit S-10
Sean from Cherokee, NC on 1/25/2009
This kit was awkward and did not fit. The front is loose and lets the stereo hang out. It was not adjustable in any way. The rear of the stereo sat on top of a built in brace which caused the whole stereo to tilt. The kit could not be adjusted to make up for this, so the front of the stereo sticks out at an angle. I have gotten many kits over the years from Crutchfield and they were pretty good. This one is not.
