Easy, but not clean
Gary from Cornelius, OR on 6/19/2025
2008 Ford Mustang
This kit made the mounting of my stereo unit easy, but that's where it ends. It should look right. First, it does fit the dash good. Second, the face of the stereo does not fit flush and has no way to adjust it without cutting and modifying it. Third, even if it were to be adjusted for a flush fit, there was still a gap around the face of the stereo. There should be different bezels or adapters for different size stereo faces.

Bad head mount kit
Matt from Temecula, CA on 8/26/2024
2012 Ford Expedition
The radio I got was a double din radio. The double din mounting backs did not come in the kit. Crutchfield is sending me a new one put because of my personal time restriction I had to go buy one at the store. Also the double din face peace has a bar of plastic going through the middle of it. This would have had to been cut to fit the radio leaving and ugly scar. I would recommend a different head mounting set. The good thing is Crutchfield refunded me without a problem.
Pros: Cheap
Cons: This was missing part and poorly made. I would recommend spending more for a better kit.

Russell from Chula Vista, CA on 6/5/2024

This needs to be made out of something more durable like metal. It's holding a relatively heavy radio/GPS unit with plastic through all the road vibrations with only a faceplate basically. When attaching the unit I was always worried about tightening too much and cracking the plastic or not enough and it loosening up with time.

Fit well on my 2005 Mustang w/ Shaker 500 unit. A bit of trouble figuring out how to make it fit my Kenwood Excelon unit but I figured it out. It does have to go on from the front, not the back like instructons say, and you do have to remove the original Kenwood bezel too Pretty obvious if you just take the time to figure it out.

This dash kit worked fine and fit my Ford Edge. I had to trim out the cross piece with a utility knife to use it. That was the only downside because I thought I might accidentally mess it up. I wish they could figure out a way to avoid that. That's why I docked this review one star. In the end, I was able to cut it out with some effort (my blade might have been a little dull) and no damage. It does look great and made the radio unit fit perfectly.

Need to use washers to make it flush of 2008-2009 Taurus and Sable
LJ from Columbia on 3/27/2023
2009 Ford Taurus
I got this kit with a Kenwood Double DIN radio I bought from Crutchfield. I have a 2009 Ford Taurus sedan. I installed it easy enough. After the install I found that there was a noticeable gap between the kit and Taurus trim bezel on each side of the radio. I ended up eliminating this gap by going to Home Depot and getting a package of #10 flat washers. I put 2 flat washers each behind the top two screw holes and that raised it up so that it was flush. So if you have a 2008-2009 Ford Taurus Sedan or a 2008-2009 Mercury Sable then you need two washers (4 washers total) behind the top two screw holes to be able to have the radio sit flush against the trim piece.

Perfect fit. Did not need any trimming. Not rock solid so there is a little movement when adjusting position of movable screen face. This is caused by weight and the fact the radio screen sticks out from dash so the screen can be adjusted. It is sturdy enough so no fear of failure.

This will NOT fit the KW-M560BT. This is a suggested piece to buy with the radio so after waiting to finally receive everything, I was very disappointed it doesn't line up with the housing holes. If I was to align the holes up with the possible options the radio would sit 1/2" inside the dash with a very very noticable dash. Having to send EVERYTHING back because they don't have a mounting kit that fits the radio and my 07 explorer. Though it says it does.

Works, but instructions are lacking
Keith from Tracy, CA on 8/5/2022
2009 Ford Mustang
Kit works as expected but I find that the bezels are thicker than I would like. I didn't deduct a star for that, as I suspect this is due to the size of the radio though and cannot be avoided. The one start deduction was related to the instructions that came with the kit. They are rough to say the least. Installing the radio was simple with the excellent instructions from Crutchfield, but the dash kit caused me some issues. It is in now, just be ready to google how to use the kit. For me the biggest issue I had was due to the fact that my radio has a double din size face but a single din body so I didn't know if I should cut the middle divider or not. Spoiler alert, yes, you need to cut it even though the radio is single din. The other issue was trying to figure out which "arms" to use to connect the kit to the radio and if the screw provided were good or if I needed the ones provided by the radio.

Bolted to my Boss BE7-ACP perfectly. And then also bolted to my dash perfectly. Options for both single din with a cubby or double din (after cutting small piece out- per the instructions)
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Car should've came with this option from the factory

Works as advertised for my 2007 mustang, except the mounting face doesnt sit flush against the space where it's supposed to screw into. I had to go make some spacers by taping some washers together so it would mount properly. So, fit for 2007 mustang isnt ideal but otherwise it does what it's supposed to.

Metra Dash Kit made the radio replacement easy to install and looks great. My installation required spacers that are included in the kit, but series of washers took care of the issue.
Pros: Optional ways to to secure your unit
Cons: No spacers included.

This install kit looks good, with some work. When initially installed, the head unit sat too deep in the dash panel. I had to make some spacers, which was easy as there is ample plastic left over since this is a universal kit for both single and double DIN radios.
Pros: Looks good with some tweaking
Cons: Sat too deep in the dash panel

Some modification needed
Crutchfield customer from Kitty Hawk, NC on 8/5/2020
2009 Ford Mustang
This kit will gets the job done but not without modification unless you don't care about exact fit. I had to use washers on the top bolts to get the top flush with the dash. Its not a big deal but other kits may have been able to avoid this issue. Even with washers the head unit still doesn't sit perfectly flush but acceptable for the time being until I can figure out a replacement or better adjustment. Not a fan of having to cut out center brace as this could potentially damage the dash kit if not careful as its all plastic. I would like to have seen metal mounting brackets rather than plastic but these kits seem to be mostly the same across the board. On Metra's website they show 4 kits that fit the 2009 mustang (95-5812, 99-5807, 99-5812 and 99-5815) all but the this one comes with spacers which should have fixed my issues as other reviews have stated. I will be researching the other kits to see if one is better than the other
Pros: Gets the job done
Cons: Plastic mounts and modification needed to get flush install.

These dash kits have really gone down in quality. Kit contained many pieces including a single din with cubby that is going right in the trash. The double din had a brace across the middle that has to be cut out and risks you damaging the plastic. If the packaging was better this brace isn't needed. Head unit mounts are also plastic. If I was purchasing a kit I would look for something else first.
Pros:
Cons: Wasted parts, plastic head unit mounts, trimming required

The bracket worked but the hole was a bit too tall for the radio and there is a noticeable gap under it. Not a large gap but noticeable. The wire harness was not the correct one, but I was able to return it. This is my second experience with Crutchfield in the past year. The first went well and without a hitch. At that time the wiring harness was totally complete so all you had to do was plug it into the car and radio and good to go. I was told that Crutchfield no longer provides that service. I paid extra for that service and it was worth it. This experience with the wiring harness not positive/.

I liked it, but having to cut it with a utility knife out of the box for a double din radio is not preferred. It would have been nice if it needed that bar for stabilizing the mold that they would make it a clean break off joint like they do on models. Otherwise, I see no purpose for it.
Pros: Easy to install and Fits
Cons: Cheap plastic, had to cut out the bar for Double Din Radio

Great product. Made of very sturdy plastic. Fit and finish is very nice. I had a double din unit, so I had to cut out the middle bar, but it was easily done. Instructions were a bit lacking and diagrams weren't exactly clear, but with a little trial and error even I got it right.
Pros: Quality product with good fit and finish. Does what it's designed to do.
Cons: Instructions and diagrams are lacking in my opinion, but it's easy enough to figure out on your own.

This dash kit fits the dash fine but had to "stretch" it, to the extent you can stretch plastic to fit over the head unit. As a result there is a slight bend in the top cross piece. Noticeable if you look at it but not worth taking apart and trying to trim with a dremel and taking a chance on breaking.

After debating on whether or not to use 3 or 4 stars let me say that the there is little to nothing physically wrong with this unit. I gave this kit 3 stars for two reasons. 1. Either I have a reading comprehension problem OR the instructions are lacking enough detail to nearly cause me to trash this kit and go another direction. It did not state whether or not to use the steel sleeve all aftermarket head units come with. Again, this small issue could just be me, never having to NOT use the sleeve trying to make it work, you cannot. It does seem to hold the unit well enough with the provided plastic parts... plastic... 2. It squeaks, a lot when you're driving down the road. Luckily I'm deaf enough I can't hear it enough to be of any bother to me but it does drive my fiancé crazy. No way I've found yet to secure the head unit or adjust the fit to eliminate the noise caused by the plastic pieces rubbing together.

Kevin from Greenville, ME on 12/31/2018

It worked. I wish they provided screws to attach to the radio. The flat head screws that came with the radio worked but I'm concerned about how well the plastic brackets (which are not countersunk) provided with this kit will hold up using those screws. It interfaced with the mounting locations on the car just fine and overall was easy to install although it took me a few minutes to realize that there was a plastic frame on the radio that needed to be removed before this could be used.
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Plastic brackets

Works but took some adjustments
Ferris from Austin, TX on 12/26/2018
2006 Ford Mustang
Basically it's workable. This was in the Crutchfield parts package. Metro 95-5812 looks like what should be included (no trimming and no extra parts). As stated by other, for double DIN you have to use something like a fine Exacto blade saw to cut the center plastic. Utility knife just doesn't work. The internal rim on the one I received was much taller at the bottom for the radio to line up flush with the dash face. I had to cut it down to the same size with a dremel cutoff wheel. The left and right guide pins are short, so mounting is really a 3-handed operation. Last-Do not over tighten the mounting screws-it will crack. After all that the. Kenwood does look pretty good. There is a bit of side to side space between the radio face and the bezel, but if you adjust it even it looks ok. ** 2006 Mustang GT Shaker 500 replacement. Kenwood DDX6705S.
Pros: Looks fine after installation.
Cons: Cutting the center spacer. Having to cut down the inner bezel to line up with dash (maybe mine was molded wrong?). Short guide pins

Did it's job
Crutchfield customer from Methuen, MA on 11/2/2018
Cutting was necessary (as stated in the directions) but perforations would have been easier. The small spacers didn't fit well and some ended up falling into the dash, resulting in having to mod some spare pieces of plastic. Other reviewers complained about the fit/appearance after installation, but mine looked fine.

2006 Ford Mustang
Wow! This dash kit made my double-DIN JVC stereo look like it was dang near factory-installed in my 2006 Ford Mustang! There are only a couple minor drawbacks. First, if you are installing a double-DIN stereo, you have to use a jagged knife to cut out that center plastic bar in the dash kit. Not sure what the purpose of it is. Second, half of this kit won't even be used after the stereo is installed. I think Metra should sell the single-DIN and double-DIN dash kits separately. I've seen some reviews of this product state that this kit did NOT work with their Mustang. As long as you follow the instructions, I don't see why it wouldn't. The only possible minor adjustments I could see are where you attach the side brackets to the stereo. I guess it could have something to do with the single-DIN dash kit instead, which I didn't use. In a nutshell, if you own a 2005 to 2009 Mustang and want to install a double-DIN stereo, this dash kit WILL work. If not, there's something on your end that you're not doing right. Just re-read the instructions.
Pros: makes your stereo look almost factory-installed
Cons: for the double-DIN dash kit, plastic bar needs cut-out after installation, too many parts left over

Does NOT fit 2007 Mustang!
Guest from Scottsville, KY on 4/1/2018
2007 Ford Mustang
This does NOT fit on a 2007 Mustang!!!!. It will go into the dash but there is no spacers so it does not sit flush. I ordered this one because it says it will fit. The other model that says will not fit (Metra 95-5812), does fit with some slight modifications and since that one comes with spacers I was able to get that one to work but the one recommened here does not fit. I know this kit does work in some S197 mustangs as ive seen it on youtube, but for my 07 it DOES NOT.

Modifications needed for my application
Kent from Mason City, IA on 3/18/2018
When I put the car's trim panel back on, I struggled to get it in the right position to snap it on. This is because the the dash kit held the head unit about 1/2" to high in the opening. After I finally got it on, there was a 1/2" gap at the bottom. I fixed it by cutting off the bottom cross-bar from the other kit (the one that would be used for a single-din application) and it worked great to fill the gap at the bottom.
Pros: It looks good, after making modifications.
Cons: It seems like it was not an exact fit for my vehicle/head unit.

Eric from Lead, SD on 12/12/2017
A bit more gap than I would have liked for the front fit/finish. Totally disappointed that they also send a single din adapter with the double. Basically paying for 2 when only needing one. The world has enough waste/junk floating around. The screws are a touch short to grab into the side of my JVC. Only 2 would grab, didn't need more since the Maestro harness was so bulky it keeps things tight.
Pros: It did its job.
Cons: The finish fitment left more gap than I would prefer. Side screws are a touch short for my JVC. They send an entire single din kit with the double din kit which is a total waste.

Worked well in my 2007 Ford Explorer with a single din JVC head unit. My head unit moves back and forth a bit so I'm not sure if that's due to something I didn't do installing the dash kit or not but it's a little thing that's just an annoyance.

Agreed: NOT for Mustang!
Dave from Sarasota, FL on 5/19/2017
2007 Ford Mustang
Like Ned from Mission Viejo, CA on 2/11/2013 said, this is not the correct kit for an 07 Mustang. It put the head unit too far back to be flush with the rest of the trim. Metra #99-5812 would be better for this car and hopefully Crutchfield will have a look at it. I live 12 miles from the nearest hardware store. It's a good thing I had a bunch of washers on hand to use to shim the unit so it sits flush. I had to use three washers on all four bolts. After adding washers, the head unit sits perfectly flush and centered so it did work. I don't know how other reviewers said it fit perfectly in this car; it does not. Granted, 99-5807 is listed to fit on the Metra site, 99-5812 IS the kit for the Mustang as it comes with spacers for the bolts.

A necessary part that looks good and works.
Johnathan L from Vine Grove, KY on 10/16/2016

This dash kit worked well. I wish I had had a little more information when installing however. 1) The plastic brackets that came with the kit to hold onto the side of the stereo did not come with the required screws. I happened to have a few screws from a previous install, but they weren't with me when I did the install for someone else (at their workplace), so I had to forego using the side pieces. 2) The instructions said nothing about needing to forego the metal sleeve that came with the stereo (and come with most stereos) if I wanted to use the small plastic surround that metra provides instead of the surround that comes with the stereo. Sooooo, using the sleeve and the plastic surround that came with the stereo, there is a gap left on the left and right side of the stereo where you can see through to behind the dash. Not horrible, but not as nice as it would have been if I had used the surround that metra provided. I can still fix this, of course, but it will require taking everything apart again in order to remove the metal sleeve, attach the plastic sides to the stereo and the front piece supplied by metra (and using my own screws which they neglected to include), and then reassemble using the metra surround instead of the jvc surround. Long story short, a little more info about this in the instructions would have saved me time and effort. Still, either way, it worked.
Pros: Fits, looks good and is easy to use.
Cons: Missing screws. Instructions lacking on a few details.

Cutting out the bar for use with a DDIN radio was a bit nerve racking. A lot of left over pieces after you're done makes it seem a bit wasteful. They should have two kits - one for single DIN and the other for double DIN.
Pros: Clean, professional look.
Cons: The extra parts & no screws to attach to unit.

This frame kit allows for a clean looking install. Instructions are clear and easy to under stand. Only reason did not give 5 stars was due to piece you need to cut out for 2 DIN install
Pros: Every thing you need. Clean look and good fit
Cons: Piece you need to cut out for 2DIN install is tough to cut without marring up rest of frame. Best to leave a little long and file or sand paper rest of way down

Good Product - Instructions a Little Vague

I used this kit on a Kenwood DPX501BT stereo to replace the Shaker 500 in my 07 Mustang. It worked well, but the instructions were a little vague. I had to remove a trim piece from the stereo, so this could go on it.

Works decent with Kenwood DPX501BT
Josh B. from Minnesota on 7/28/2015

So this was sent with my Kenwood stereo and I didn't think it was very good at first because there was a plastic bar that we had to cut with an xacto knife. This did leave some stubs that are unnoticeable without looking pretty close. It is very simple and fits great.
Pros: Easy and decent quality
Cons: Stubs left behind that are bad for nit picky people.

I got this with my 4000NEX. Supposed to fit but it keeps the face from moving to eject anything. Had to take a dremmel to it and now it doesn't look the best. You could blame my skills on the power tool but if something says it fits it should fit and be functional. It's in the car now but only until I find a better alternative. At least it was "free."

Not an exact fit
Sara from NJ on 4/29/2015
2005 Ford Mustang
Looks fine, but can be a bit difficult when you try to use a double din receiver. You have to cut the little bar in the middle. Not like it's difficult, just can be time consuming if you want it to look good. It also wasn't an exact fit. It gets the job done and that's all that matters. If I had a show car though, I may think twice about using this.

Simple Installation
Stan from Lexington SC on 4/22/2015
Once you determine the parts that are for your specific installation, it was simple. It would be good if the instructions would list what parts are for double DIN installation, and what is need for single DIN. But unneeded parts are what you end up with a universal kit. Otherwise, the installation was very easy.
Pros: Good fit, professional looking results.
Cons: Vague instructions, unneeded part overload.

I will be honest, I didn't expect much from this. I have used them in the past (Not this brand) for a double DIN to single DIN and they always seem cheaply made. I has shocked to find thick plastic and properly aligned mounting points. It looks great in the car and gives the install a professional look.
Pros: Everything, I can't find one thing wrong with it.
Cons: Make it really classy and put a rubber mat in it for the small storage spot and make it really look factory.

Good Fit
RandyD from Arlington, TX on 3/26/2013
2005 Ford Mustang
Used the receiver kit to replace my Shaker 500 HU, and replace it with a Pioneer AVH-P8400BH. At first I thought the receiver kit frame was warped because the HU face plate would catch on the inside edge of the frame, preventing the face plate from closing when all four frame screws were tightened down. I even called Crutchfield and said, "I think the mounting frame is warped." Well, I was wrong. The frame was not warped, but it did require a little adjusting in order to get the tolerances just right. I ended up putting a washer behind each of the two top screw holes (which affected the fit and finish not at all), and the face plate now closes just fine, with just the faintest of a tick against the bottom of the frame as it comes to full close. All in all, no complaints and the frame looks good in my 2005 Mustang convertible.
Pros: Free, with the receiver.

Gets the job done.
Scott from Riverton, WY on 2/26/2013
Nothing too fancy, but gets the job done. I had to do a little bit of drilling out on the holes for the mounting brackets because the holes/slots were too small for the screws that came with my stereo. Not a huge deal, everything else went together OK. Considering it was thrown in for free with my radio purchase, I'm satisfied.
Pros: Should work for most installations.
Cons: Cheap flimsy plastic, you must be careful during installation to prevent breaking it.

Not recommended for Mustang
Ned from Mission Viejo, CA on 2/11/2013
2007 Ford Mustang
Faceplate fits Pioneer HU nicely, but sits almost 1/4" too far back in the dash opening. The result is that the faceplate is visibly recessed from the rest of the dash. Tried putting a few nylon washers behind the faceplate to push it forward. This fixed the problem but made another problem more evident. The faceplate sits about 1/8" too far to the left, creating a large gap on the right side between the faceplate and the factory dash, and tight fit on the left side of the face plate. This can't be fixed without drilling into the faceplate or dash, which could compromise the install. Another lesser problem is that the texture of the faceplate is a lot rougher than the factory dash. A few coats of adhesion promoter and trim paint smoothed it out a bit and made it a perfect match. This is the kit Crutchfield recommended for my '07 Mustang, and it looks like it should be the right one, but it's a big disappointment. I've ordered the Metra 95-5812, which comes with the appropriate (and necessary) spacers, and is the faceplate actually recommended by Metra. Once it arrives, I'll update this review. Crutchfield has been very helpful in the past, but this time, they just plain steered me wrong.
Pros: Fits Pioneer AVH-X5500bhs.
Cons: Poor fit for 07 Mustang. Texture doesn't match Mustang dash.

Looks good and feels good, installed in my 06 mustang with shaker 1000 on a Kenwood ddx419.
Pros: easy directions
Cons: Upon mounting my deck to this kit, the screws were too short to fit through the plastic side plates they gave me and into the side of the ddx419. Very disappointed about that because I should have had it done in less than an hour. However, I went to a hardware store and bought 10-32 1/2" screws and problem was solved for $5.

Incomplete kit
DP from WI on 7/20/2012
2007 Ford Mustang
This kit was free with my Kenwood Nav unit and after trying to complete the installation I understand why. First, I had to enlarge several of the side mounting slots to get the head unit face properly aligned with the mount. And when I tried to install it in the dash, the mount bezel was recessed in the dash trim. It looks like some of the other kits come with spacers and that is what this kit needs to work with my car. You would think someone would have actually tested this from Crutchfield before including it for my application. Furthermore... I called last night for help and they asked for pictures of the issue and promised a call back within an hour. I never heard from them. Considering the $$ I spent on this set-up, that was pretty disappointing.
Pros:
Cons: Does not work with my 07 Mustang without addiitonal parts and modifications

The in dash receiver kit is why I bought from Crutchfield
coopebh from Kansas on 7/12/2012
I found the DVD player for my son's truck at almost $100 cheaper but purchased from Crutchfield for the tech support and this in-dash receiver kit. It was almost worth the extra $100 but made my life easier during snstall so maybe it was worth the whole $100.
Pros: Made installation a breeze.

Works perfectly
Craig H from Parkville, MD on 7/7/2012
When this arrived with my new head unit, I couldn't figure out why it was shipped to me. After studying the instructions, it became obvious this was the interface needed to unify new head unit to my dash. When you follow the directions, it makes your new unit look like an original head unit. Thanks to Crutchfield for adding this to my order at no cost.
Pros: Makes an aftermarket head unit look like an original.
Cons: Need instructions to match this to the new head unit. It can be difficult when there are no general directions to explain how this is part of the installation.

Excellent trim pieces worked fine for my Ford Five Hundred and the Clarion CZ401. Combined with the MasterSheet instructions, made installation a snap. Even added a new storage pocket which wasn't available with the old factory stereo
Pros: Great fit, easy installation, new pocket.
Cons: Maybe just a tad on the thin side with the plastic, would have liked to see a little more robust pieces but it has worked and fit well so far (1 month of use).

Not for use in a Mustang
Chris B. from Bethlehem, PA on 2/7/2012
2005 Ford Mustang
Overall this product does what is should do, but there are a few issues. The opening for the double DIN receiver is smaller than any Double Din receiver. To fix this I needed to get out some sand paper and sand the opening wider to fit a double DIN receiver. I couldn't get the Clarion double DIN CX-501 to fit though the opening in the mount and couldn't get an older double DIN receiver I have to fit through the opening either. I had to be patient with the fine grit sand paper and go slowly, so a quick stereo install turned into a several hour ordeal. When installed the Clarion receiver I bought from Crutchfield stuck out of the dash about 1/2". It doesn't look nearly as clean as the factory stereo. I tried pushing the head unit further back in the mount, but none of the mounting holes would line up with the receiver to mount it flush. I also tried changing the side bracket sides to see if it would mount flush. Even when I reversed the side brackets, none of the mounting holes would line up with the receiver to mount it flush. I've read other reviews complaining of the same thing. It makes the install look awkward ad unprofessional. It seems that this kit is a universal kit and maybe it works well in soem FOrd trucks, but its completely designed wrong for the '05-'09 Mustang if you want something that looks as good as the factory install. If my factory receiver wasn't acting flaky, I would have sent the whole order back to Crutchfield.
Pros: You can sell the other mount that you didn't use to get some money back.
Cons: It doesn't fit correctly and gives the install a cheap look.

It works, sort of...
davek from Wappingers Falls, NY on 10/26/2011
Crutchfield sent me this kit along with my JVC AVX-640 double din receiver for my 2005 Mustang. Strictly speaking, it works, but it leaves a bit to be desired. Everything bolted up OK, the brackets fit the radio chassis and the bolt holes lined up properly with the Mustang dash mounts, but when everything is put back together there are visible gaps on both sides between the receiver and dash opening. Fortunately, I was able to clean up the install by trimming out the receiver with a thin sheet of black craft foam cut to fit perfectly and conceal the gaps, but this should not be necessary. I'm accustomed to much higher quality fit and finish from dash kits, and this one simply doesn't measure up. Prior to my modification, the install looked unprofessional and sloppy...not acceptable for my new $400 receiver. The kit was free with my receiver, so I suppose I can't complain too loudly, but it didn't meet with my expectations. Ultimately, this kit works, but be prepared to spend some time modifying it to end up with a clean, professional looking installation.
Pros: Free with receiver.
Cons: Finished installation leaves unsightly gaps between receiver and dash opening.

I used this kit to install a conventional stereo into a 2005 mustang. The car was equipped with the shaker 500 factory unit, and i was a bit concerned that going to a smaller (1/2 the size) stereo, would look strange. The kit comes with a plate that has a recessed compartment built in. My car has very limited cargo space, so the recessed compartment is VERY handy! As for visual appeal? No problem... looks good... should have swapped out the stereo a long time ago.

Works, looks, and fits well. Only problem I had with it was installing the plates to my stereo. The lettering telling you the left and right was upside down, I think for the right side, thus causing a little confusion. Did they mean right looking from the front or from the rear? :) Common sense quickly prevailed, but for free I can't complain too much.

Double Din? Double-Didn't.
Bullet Bill from Charlotte NC on 6/12/2011
2006 Ford Five Hundred
Double Din install of a JVC XR-810, surround wouldn't fit new radio. The radio case was too wide to seat into the adaptor. There didn't appear to be enough plastic to carve the slot wide enough, so I ended up bending the brand-new head unit steel case, folding the flanges back. And the side plates wouldn't line up with screw holes on case. I swapped left for right, got 2 screws on each side, seems secure enough. I was pretty ticked, this easily doubled the time required for full install. Seems like Crutchfield would be aware of problem, many reports, but only shows up in adaptor reviews. Installed unit looks very good, radio seats fully against adaptor, and adaptor fits dash cutout very nice. Matte finish on plastic does not match the other black dash plastic, but new radio looks and sounds great.

Aaron from College Station TX on 11/10/2008
Face kit sat flush with dash on the bottom but was inset nearly half an inch at the top of my 08 f150. The clearance around the radio was so poor that it took hours of Dremeling just to get the motorized face of my JVC NX7000 to operate correctly. After LOTS of washers were added between this face kit and the dash I finally got it nearly flush. Also had to drill new holes in the side of it just to get the radio to mount flush in the dash. The pre-drilled holes were way off.

I have to work on modifying the provided radio mounting kit because which when you open the front face unit down to load a CD it detaches the face from the radio. there isn't enough space under the face of the radio to prevent this from detaching. I got this dash kit for a double DIN Kenwood DNX8120, at first there was at least a 3/8 of an inch space on the top and 1/8 on the bottom where the kit meets the dash. I had to run to a local hardware store and get longer screws that mount the kit to the dash and about 8 washers to space mounting bracket to move it forward, to meet with the dash. After that it seems to look alright. Like I said it fits great, but only after you put in some work.

Works well.....but
Mark from Alexandria, VA on 2/16/2008
Only problem, I have a 2008 F-150 and this kit is for 2004-up (which I guess it doesn't mean 2008). It fit well and everything lined up except for the top of the kit. You can see gaps on the side on the upper half of the kit. So I strolled over to the local home store and went to the electrical section and purchased for approx. $1.83 a pack of 6 1/4 in. rubber Grommets. They worked great. I put 2 up top and the 1/4 in. spaced the top to be even with the dash. You can't even see a problem anymore.

Not a professional look if you have a DIN radio
oppositelock from Westerville, Ohio on 12/23/2007
2008 Ford F-150
One of the listed "features" of this kit is a "recessed DIN mount." In layman's terms, this means that your DIN head unit will be mounted 3/4 inch behind the opening in your dashboard. In the Ford F-150, you'll be able to see the retaining clips on the radio bezel and the back of the airbag light. The recessed area allows you to see the rough, uneven plastic on the back and sides of the dash that was never meant to be seen. Finally, it's nearly impossible to remove the faceplate from the head unit. In short, my $700 investment looks like it was put together with bailing wire and duct tape-- the antithesis of professional. I have contacted Crutchfield about this problem. They e-mailed pictures of a completely different mounting kit to prove that this one works. A week later, I'm still waiting for an answer about what can be done to get a different kit.....

Last time I used one of these things some 5 years ago, they used to rattle a lot as the top of pocket vibrated against the bottom of the head unit - this flaw has been solved with a spacer lip to prevent exactly this situation from occurring - it's nice to see products improve with time.
