Ok, had to grind down the screw heads.
Andrew from AMERICAN FORK, UT on 1/3/2023
2001 Mazda Miata
It works ok. Depending on your application, you will throw half of it away. The screws are too thick to easily mount the radio in a 2001 Miata. In their defense, I tried to buy thinner but could but find any. Instead I used my grinder to take some of the metal off of the screw heads to make them thinner. With the thinner heads the radio binds a little bit, but does slide in.
Pros: Works okay.
Cons: Many extra parts. Screw heads are too think.

honestly feels a little flimsy and cheap, but for the price point you can't expect more. it does the job with no fitment issues so i cant complain. mine in particular came bent but that could be a shipping problem and not a product failure. it easily bent back into shape.
Pros: cheap, works as intended
Cons: feels a bit flimsy

Stoutly Built
Crutchfield customer from Oklahoma City, OK on 6/11/2021
2002 Mazda Miata
This is some tough plastic. The opening wasn't big enough for the 100x178mm face of the head unit I bought. So I built a jig to hold it securely and got out my file collection. A couple hours later it fit perfectly. The unit is only about 3 inches deep and weighs next to nothing so I had no worries about the rear support. Also had to make new holes in the side brackets since the new unit is so shallow. No biggie for me.

Simple piece but it really puts the finishing touch on an install. I really like how it kept the headunit flush with the dash - rather than looking stuffed in a hole - in an old F150. This is not absolutely necessary for an aftermarket install in a single din opening but it makes it look right.

Thanks, I guess? Did not see a reason to use most of this kit - my Miata dash plastic received the Sony receiver fine. The one piece I did use - the little boss that sticks out the back of the radio to mate with a frame to prevent flopping up/ down - didn't have a threaded stud to mate it to the back. Had to jury-rig with a cut-off machine screw from my stock.

It works ok, but the included peg for the back of the radio to rest on the dash support was horrible. The instructions said to put the cap on top of some screw, but didn't include a screw. I had to drill a hole into the heat sink on the head unit and screw in the peg from the OEM radio.
Pros: It fits in the dash
Cons: Dash support peg is bad

Crutchfield customer from Indian Trail, NC on 10/7/2020

It works, but there are some significant areas for improvement. When cutting the center divider piece out for a double din radio, the texture is different after you cut. So if your radio doesn't stick out far enough, you'll always see where you cut the divider. It would have been ok if the side pieces allowed you to mount the radio far enough forward, but it doesn't. I ended up filing the holes a little bit so that I could bring the radio far enough forward to cover up the cut marks. It's not perfect and most people will never notice it, but I can see it and it bothers me.

Does what it needs to for double-DIN install
Crutchfield customer from Spring, TX on 7/2/2019
2001 Mazda Miata
Functional, seems to hold in place, but it is designed to fit all manner of head units, so there are a few things to mention. 1) the cross-bar in the double-DIN bezel must be removed, and it will require some cleanup and a little fine file work to make it as unnoticeable as possible; 2) the side pieces are the same, relatively soft plastic, and you will need to use screws from your original or replacement unit to attach them. They need to be relatively tight to keep the unit from moving during installation, but really tightening the screws will deform the pieces and probably some risk of breakage. 3) It does click in once everything is together, and Crutchfield does advise that it may not come out well if you need it to. (I actually used a thin spatula successfully because with all the almost-in/out stuff I did adjusting the SLC-4 levels I managed to dislodge the microphone plug, apparently. (Don't be like me, but make sure to re-test *everything* before final install, not just the last thing you were working on.)
Pros: Hey, it works!
Cons: It is all plastic, and you need a little TLC to remove the center bar cleanly if you using it for a double-DIN head unit. Crutchfield advises it may not be removable in one piece, so it may be single use. Proceed accordingly with your install.

Too Confusing For Me
Brian from Medway, MA on 1/11/2019
2005 Mazda Tribute
I am glad this kit was a free add on to my order. The kit comes with multiple pieces to accommodate different installs. My problem was the instructions were confusing and there was a statement on the instructions that said "Once the radio clicks in, it may not be able to be removed without dashboard disassembly." I want to be able to remove my new radio easily like my stock radio was. I was able to use my new radio's housing which allows the radio to be removed.
Pros: Kit accommodates different radios Was included with the radio purchase
Cons: Confusing instructions May have to disassemble the dash in the future if you use the kit Not necessary for my install

Nice looking, but not good for Sony touchscreen units
Shaun from Marshfield, MA on 2/3/2018
2003 Mazda Miata
This is a nice looking mount, but if you have a Sony XAV100 it's not ideal. The screw openings hold the head unit just fine until you have it installed and order on the screen. This is due to the openings for the screws having nothing to push against the head unit will slowly sink into the dash while the mount stays put. I'm trying to find an alternative mount or have someone 3D print new side panels specifically for this unit.

For all who are saying the install kit is cheap, and should only send 1...first off, Crutchfield sends this to you for free, and shipped free. Of course it's not the best quality, and maybe a little deceiving. But they don't have to send you a free kit either. If installed correctly, you'll see that the integrity of the material is in the shape, and works with other parts to become stronger. They wouldn't send you an item, that could potentially damage the vary item you purchased from them, only to return it all, and or product insurance claim. I think its great that they do this, and more companies could take notes from this one. Thank you Crutchfield.
Pros: FREE, dual optional, color match, fits perfect.
Cons: If you're not happy, just buy a different one

Does what it's made to do I guess. You have to cut out the black plastic in the middle if you're installing a Double Din head unit system. I only needed one of the many supplied pieces to get it in my car. So you're left with a bunch of extra unnecessary pieces. It was also a pain getting it to set in my dash, but that could just be my inexperience. Otherwise, looks great and does what it's supposed to do.

Lucas from Kansas City, MO on 10/3/2014
2002 Mazda Protege
The side brackets did not line up with my screw holes so I took a dremel tool and made my own (probably ended up better that way). The dimension vertically was spot on but horizontally was about 1/16 in to wide. Had to cut out the extra space from the original mounting in the car (behind the trim). It just slid into place and snapped when correctly positioned. All in all was really easy to work with and I am pleased with the outcome. I would recommend that anyone who uses this to make sure that you get at least 2 heavy screws on each side due to how light the plastic is.
Pros: Fit was good. Once it was in place it seems to hold together very solid.
Cons: Holes did not line up to stereo. (I was using Alpine CDE-W235BT, able to create my own though). Plastic was rather soft, wish it was metal.

This kit is very poor quality, but I could find no other alternative. Cheap plastic brackets whose holes do not line up well with the head unit. Assembling the pieces around the head unit is like building a house of cards. It's amazing that this rig holds together when it's completed, but it actually does.
Pros: Unit seems to be securely mounted in the dash.
Cons: Surround face texture does not match anything in the dash. Generic holes do not match head unit well. Plastic is poor quality that you are expected to cut if you are installing a Double-DIN.

2002 Mazda Protege
The kit worked very well to install a double din stereo into our 2001 Mazda Protege. The kit simply snaps into the sides using friction. The deck can easily be removed, I was hoping for the kit to utilize the pin style removal the original deck had. If Crutchfield says the deck is to deep and that the rear bracket will have to be removed, the bracket does have to be cut out utilizing a tool like a sawzall and then a screw must be pulled out of the ducting. It only took an extra ten minutes but I was hoping to remove the bracket instead of cutting it out.
Pros: Quick, easy install that made the installation flawless.
Cons: Only snaps in the sides, very little security for the new deck.

Overall a nice product to allow installation flexibility. However, the way in which the front bezel connects to the side tabs isn't very good. Have had to pull the radio back out because the clips came out from one side of the bezel and the radio pushed into the dash. Had to shim out the clips to force them to lock into the bezel.
Pros: Flexibility for various installs
Cons: Tabs that connect to front Bezel do not make good connection and Radio can push in unless you shim the clips out to ensure they catch.

2005 Mazda Tribute
This was a perfect fit in my 2005 Mazda Tribute. I had one small issue but figured it out. I forgot to plug in the external mic for my bluetooth phone integration. So I had to take this back out. I ended up using 2 small flat tools, like putty knives, on the top of it. If you need to take this out, look at the picture of it and see where the tabs are, put one tool in just above the top of the kit in the center, it will bend down slightly, slide it to the left until you feel the tab and work it above the tab to release it. Leave it in place and slide the other tool in the same starting position and slide it to the right from the center to release the second tab. Then the whole kit will rotate forward and in turn release the bottom tabs. Then just slide it out.
Pros: Perfect fit, nice look.
Cons: Semi-difficult to remove from dash, but figured it out.

I agree with RobertoP, Seattle on Monday, March 19, 2012 "The kit requires that you cut and smooth a bar that divides the double din kit. It would be better that the kit be explicit to the double DIN installation without needing modification. The side brackets did not snap into the radio surround as they should and the holes did not align well with the radio. The instructions were incorrect about the radio rear support and did not mention having to disassemble the exiting radio bracket to install." I wasted some time messing with it before callling the tech line and finding out I didn't need the rear support. It doesn't snap correctly in the opening at the top.
Pros: Looks nice and fits well
Cons: Instructions not correct and the top snaps will not stay.

Mazda Tribute Dash Kit
RickL from Plano TX on 5/26/2011

The kit does not mount firmly to the radio or the dash. Within two days the radio was falling out of the mount. I had to fashion supports to hold up the radio as well as a stop to prevent the radio from sliding into the dash. The radio mounts and the dash surround are made from fairly soft plastic that is way too flexible especially in the Texas heat.

Totally unnecessary for my installation.
Scott B from Austin, TX on 5/23/2011
This is mostly oriented to using a single DIN device (or two) to replace a double DIN device in the dash. This is the exact oposite of what I was doing, and so ordering this part was a mistake. If you are installing one single, hight device, or two single height devices, this adapter will probably work fine. (When installing a single device, the second opening becomes a nice location for storing CDs or other small items. If you are installing a double DIN device, like I did, don't order this part.

I used the double din trim kit in a 2003 Mazda Protege5 with the Pioneer AVH-3200BT. The trim piece fits perfectly with both the car and the head unit. It fits well and does what it's supposed to. The plastic look of the trim isn't the most appealing but that will vary depending on what style head unit you are installing. Overall, two thumbs up.

Better than the Metra but still flawed
SamM from Richmond, VA on 9/10/2010
2003 Mazda Protege5
I had the Metra version of this with my last head unit, and I feel the Scoche wins on being a bit more substantial and having a removable back plate to the bottom pocket that makes running rear-connected auxiliary and USB cables a bit easier to handle cleanly by drilling holes in the back plate. As should be expected, it snapped in very cleanly and the head unit fits snugly into it. Installation was very easy after I realized that super-gluing a couple of shims to the kit provided perfect stability for the head unit. The big issue with this is that the trim ring is precariously connected to the body by four minuscule tabs and it's prone to snap right out when driving over train tracks or minor potholes. This is second time super glue came in handy when installing the kit. Granted, the Metra has the same problem, but I'd like to see one of the companies employ a better solution. The minor issue, like nearly all aftermarket dash houses, is that it's ugly. Then again, since it was free I can't really complain.

Mr. Mechanic I am not! Although my father was a great mechanic (his career) I inherited none of his skill. Nevertheless, the Mazda Kit was a snap to install. The only problem was getting the radio out, the double din extractor, did not work; not the kit's problem, Mazda put the clips in like iron. I finally, using extractor and screwdrivers, got it to release. After that it was easy. Probably the clips holding the radio into the cage could be stronger. However, I screwed up and bent them putting radio in. I bent them back, but radio not as secure as I would like. However, so far not a movement (and a Miata moves!). So, I am pleased. I had a large hole to fill, and install the bluetooth microphone, and the finished product looks professional! I can't tell you how well you did on this one, because most things I "fix" I break!

Kit is useless for double din radio in mazda
kalish from Albertson, ny on 1/11/2009
2003 Mazda Tribute
The kit is absolutely useless for a double din installation. The first issue is that the side mounts are not attached to the face plate, but merely slot it place. The second issue is that there is no back or bottom support for the radio. So, when you put it in place, the radio simply falls into the dash leaving the frame in place. Took much customization to build a support bracket for the radio. Should be removed as a supported Crutchfield item.

The only good thing about this product is that it was free with my stereo. I usually dont write bad reviews about products but this thing is soooooooooooooooooooooooo frustrating i had to. The stereo pops out of the bracket with the slightest bump, and its extremly difficult to put it back in place, and lastly why does it have the plastic bar going across the middle that you have to cut away, cause when you do cut it, it leaves very noticable imperfections where you made the cuts!!!!!!! all in all, im pretty comfortable saying you'd be better off if you just use some duct tape to scure the radio.... okay im kidding about the tape thing but for real though DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, especially if you have a 2003 mazda protege and a pioneer fh-p8000bt

I was sceptical about buying this kit, considering all the negative comments about "structural integrity" , but was very pleased with the product. It is solid and the integrity comes down to the installer. A simple strap support bolted to the radio, and to the center storage cavity, and then to the cars dashboard support structure makes for a very simple, strong and clean install.

Got this with the Clarion DUZ385SAT I was installing in my '02 Miata LS. While the appearance portion compliments both the OEM dash and HU, I'm very displeased with the lack of structural integrity of the kit. A two-year-old could rip this thing out in a heartbeat! Absolutely terrible dash kit if you want to install a double din radio or monitor. There is nothing at all to mount it to inside the dash of an 04 Mazda Tribute!
