Metra 99-7888C Kit
Danny from San Antonio, TX on 2/25/2022
1993 Honda Accord LX
This fit well in my 93 Honda Accord LX, but after quite a bit of work on my part. I needed an xacto knife, wirecutters, and sandpaper to remove the notches as specified in the instructions. Based on how they were written, I thought they would snap off, but no. You absolutely need a tool to cut them with. Without the radio inserted, the main piece seemed like it was bowing out which worried me. However with the radio inserted, it was a perfect, solid fit. My new radio does not shake or jiggle at all. The double din spacer is a nice, clean look. There were two things that were just incorrect: first was the pegs on the bracket (pictured) were not spaced correctly, with the furthest one being too close to fit and I had to sand down half of it. Second is that the plastic bracket meant to hold the rear of the radio was pushed down by the plastic inside the console, so getting the radio in correctly was more difficult than it needed to be. I had to hold the clip upwards while pushing the radio into its cubby. An older version of this kit seemed to have a metal bracket which would have solved the problem as it would not have bent easily. I think if you buy this kit knowing what you need to do, it's great.
Pros: Looks clean and fits snug after installation
Cons: Tools and time required to cut it correctly. Not plug and play.

Works, but cheap material and poor quality assurance.
Crutchfield customer from Auburn, WA on 3/15/2021
1991 Honda Accord EX
The dash kit works and the trim plate fits nicely and flush with the dash trim of my car, but the material is cheap and some modifications had to be made. I had to cut a pin off of the mounting bracket because the mold was off by a tenth of an inch or so. The radio support was a little confusing because it didn't have a "UP" or "TOP" marker, so I didn't think it was going to fit at first... until I took it out of my car and rotated it 180 degrees. Overall, I recommend it, but come prepared with a hack saw, a dremel, and a little patience.
Pros: Holds the stereo securely, no vibration noise, looks really nice alongside the dash trim of my Honda.
Cons: Cheap ABS Plastic, poor injection mold QA, vague instructions (follow the Crutchfield mastersheet instead!).

Not the perfect fit :(
Crutchfield customer from Wickenburg, AZ on 4/4/2018
1992 Honda Accord DX
For some reason the "C" bracket did not work with my vehicle. When I tried to rotate the bracket vertically after attaching the OEM mount inside the receiver opening it was too tall & hitting the plastic on the top of the opening. I followed the instructions step-by-step and not sure why it wasn't working... maybe my car is a fluke? Also, the pal nuts that came with the kit were way too small so I had to run to the hardware store to get two new ones that would fit. The good part of this story is that Crutchfield did not hesitate to make it right and they sent out a different kit that works with my car. (99-7892)
Pros: Great customer service made it right!
Cons: not the right fit for my vehicle, no storage pocket underneath

The face plate fits the opening but it did require some smoothing of parts that were cut off per the instructions. It really isn't what I would call a "for sure" stay in place item. The back brace piece of plastic is just not going to do the job for me. I had to go with some metal straps the really hold the radio in place

I did call support because the "C" shaped support did not touch the radio in my installation and I wanted to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Flimsy but works
Crutchfield customer from Oregon on 10/8/2013
1991 Honda Accord EX
This Install kit works but it's not very stout. The area between the Din opening and the 1/2 Din area is very thin with minimal material supporting it. It is critical that the back of the receiver be braced either with the included bracket or other method. Don't rely on the receiver mounting sleeve and just the bracket because it will break.
Pros: Fits application correctly.
Cons: Flimsy, don't force while installing as it might break!

Mounting Kit Review
MikeC from Colonial Heights, VA on 6/9/2013
1995 Honda Odyssey
Overall this is a good mounting bracket. The major reason for not giving it a higher rating is that to mount a DIN receiver using this bracket, you have to find a cutter for some pretty heavy plastic to remove the ears for standard mounting. It also does away with the tray that is below your stock radio where you can store a cell phone or change. It would be great if you could have an option to keep a tray intact if you aren't going to have the optional equipment.
Pros: Clean looking, reasonable cost.
Cons: Major cutting and deburring required for DIN mount, and loss of tray that is available below the stock radio.

Everything fit well, very happy with this install. My only complaint is the instructions for attaching rear support were not as clear as I would have liked. I could not be sure by looking at the instructions, which way the rear support mounted to the bracket. I did not want to get to sliding the unit in the sleeve only to find out it was upside down. I ended up just eyeing it up, and it worked out well.
Pros: good fit, clean look
Cons: some part of instruction sheet

was somewhat disappointed with the dash trim plate, really cheap quality and a poor fit for this application. I feel the trim plate could have been designed to utilize the factory pocket below the reciever. Not a reason to not make further Crutchfield purchases but certainly a consideration.
Pros: None
Cons: Porr fit and finish, especially for a restoration of a vehicle.

I decided to use this to hold a new Sony stereo in my 1992 Honda Accord LX Coupe. It fit well on the first try and does a good job of supporting the new stereo. I wish I could have kept the storage space underneath, but I never used it much anyway. In light of that, it does look nice and the color seems to match the surroundings well.

Worked after some fiddling...
MattB from Lodi, CA on 8/12/2011
1991 Honda Accord LX
This whole setup more or less worked, but not as easily as it could have. First, the pictures in the included manual didn't specify which way was up for the head unit clip that holds the back. Second, and this one is important, the unit kept shorting out upon install and blowing the fuse. After over an hour of frustration (and about 7 fuses later) I discovered that the clip was seriously too narrow (top to bottom) and was actually forcing it's way into the body of the head unit, causing a short across the controller board. I remedied the situation by bending the clip so it was larger, but found the problem with just luck. Better instructions would be appreciated.

Metra 99-7888C Kit
SFH from Los Angeles, CA on 9/18/2010
1991 Honda Accord LX
Installed this kit in a 1991 Honda Accord. It performs the function it was intended to do. It was also simple to install. On the negative, it is a little cheesy in quality. It did not perfectly fit within the dash. The bottom and sides snapped in place very well. The top either would not snap in place, or would go in too far within the dash cavity. Basically the top ended up bulging out a little or bowed in. I could not get it to fit in flat like the three other sides. The little snap in plastic panel should be about an 1/16 inch longer. It slides side to side within the opening and a gap can be seen when it is slid all the way to one side or the other. Also, instead of making use of the little storage area beneath the radio, the kit just blocks the area off. So it took away a feature I once had with the old radio. Given a choice, I would have liked to try another kit brand. But it does not seem that there are many choices out there.

Metra 99-7888C Kit
Stanley from Michigan, USA on 5/6/2009
As stated by others, this minimally does the job, but is an inferior looking product. I was under the impression it would somewhat match my interior, but the plastic quality is very low and cheap looking. Worst still for me was I did not realize this would also replace the cubby hole (sunglass storage etc...) below my radio with a cheap looking plastic panel. I'm still using it, but the minute I figure out a way to achieve the same fit with something that doesn't look like a leftover from a GM product in the 70's, I'll replace it.

Cheap even when "free"
Paul from North Jersey on 4/21/2009
1996 Honda Odyssey
Beats stuffing the radio with rags; but just barely. *** For most radios in most Hondas, if frequent removal is not needed: discard the C-bracket, put L-bracket on radio rear screw with 1/4" spacer, it will fit Honda's bracket sweetly. *** Even when "free with radio" this is not a bargain. Needs considerable trimming and fine filing to fit '96 Odyssey; force it and it will shatter. Needed further filing to clear rivets on Pioneer DIN bracket. *** Why round-shaft mounts in this 21st century? The trim is risky, and just more plastic in landfills. *** The "half-DIN EQ" hole is utterly stupid. Complete waste of space. It is really disappointing that Crutchfield offers only this for most Hondas. *** If you are good with soft plastic, Crutchfield's "Universal DIN Pocket" will fit this mount, but you must saw/score/snap plastic away to enlarge the useless half-DIN hole to suit the DIN Pocket. At least all this hackery removes most of the cheap texture surface.

Metra 99-7888C Kit
Marty from Claverack, NY on 1/25/2009
While it does work I am upset that I paid this much plus shipping. It was a pain to cut out the plastic for shaft radios and it eliminated the storage pocket. I was putting a radio I had purchased from Crutchfield in a different car so I called them. Could have bought similar quality and paid less locally, and will probably do so in the future. Not up to the usually high Crutchfield standards

works...yet unsightly
Jason from Kailua, Hawaii on 8/1/2008
1996 Acura Integra
The fitment was good and snug in my integra, but this is a outdated style because it has a EQ slot and cover on the bottom rather than a pocket. It would be much more appealing if it were the pocket style dash kit. The rear bracket was a little difficult to put in and the screws are a little overly long, but it does its job in hold the deck firmly and keeps it sturdy. So this item works properly and is well designed in the mounting aspects, but a little ugly and less useful compared to other kits on the market.

Nice, but not essential
Jeremy from Los Angeles, CA on 7/17/2006
1996 Acura Integra
This came free with my radio. I probably would have done without it rather than pay the $20 for it. I didn't use the faceplate as it was unnecessary. The new radio fit where the factory radio was installed and the (Alpine) radio contained a mounting sleeve that did the rest. I installed the rear mounting bracket, but it was a big pain. The speed clips are a little to long to fit easily over the bracket without hitting the L bend in the metal. The holes in the bracket were drilled in such a way that the C-clamp had to be off-center, and with the heat sinks on the radio I had to really force the radio in to get it in far enough for the front mounting clips to engage. Furthermore, the whole rear bracket set up caused a cable traffic jam in the back that meant I had to disassemble a lot of the car (as outlined in Crutchfield's MasterSheet) just to be able to guide the cables back into the car as I slid the radio in. It was also very difficult to guide the radio into the clamp, as it has to hit at just the right height and angle in order to fit into the opening; being able to guide by having access to the rear of the radio while sliding it in seemed essential. If I ever wanted to remove the radio, I don't know if I could get it back in without taking everything apart again. Without all this, the radio still would have had rear support by sitting on the car's built-in ledge, it just wouldn't have had anything keeping it from bouncing up when the car hit a bump.
