It's free but comes with a cost

You will lose the pocket under your stereo and requires the use of metal strapping (included in kit) to complete install. This company does make a kit 99-7982 that uses the factory mounting and keeps the storage pocket that's worth the extra money
Pros: Fits kind of!
Cons: Lose storage pocket Hard to mount with the metal strapping

Junk
MWL from Arizona on 10/25/2015
1996 Honda Accord EX
Piece of junk, did not fit into the dash trim without a lot of trimming, spent an hour sanding this thing down so it would fit. The plank off plate for the EQ opening is a 1/4 inch too short. Not the quality I'd expected from Crutchfield .
Pros: none
Cons: didn't fit

Does exactly what it's supposed to do

1999 Acura 3.0CL
It fits my car ('99 Acura CL) and doesn't stick out. It was relatively easy to install for someone with absolutely no experience, and it doesn't look out of place with the rest of the console.
Pros: Easy to install Aesthetically pleasing
Cons: Made out of plastic, so it may feel cheap. But hey, when are people going to take out your radio and feel your dash kit and say "Wow, this isn't made out of adamantium and gold, how cheap."?

It is not a good fit. The corners had to be shaved/cut down in order for the radio to fit. It still doesn't fit flush in the dash.

Didn't need it

Wound up not needing it. The radio fit right into the factory mount which felt sturdier. I'm not unhappy abut purchasing it, though. It was inexpensive enough that havning the inurance of a fit was woth it.
Pros: Wluld for sure fit into my car
Cons: Flimsier that the factory mount.

Poor Fit
ConsumerGuy from U.S. on 4/11/2012
1996 Honda Accord EX
This kit were bought to go into a 1996 Honda Accord EX Sedan. This review is for the dash kit only (item # 120997890). The dash kit is really a poor design from the start, and does not fit very well even after you secure it to you vehicle. My vehicle has 4 places for heavy duty screws to hold a radio in place. However, for some odd reason, this kit only utilizes two of those screw-in points, and there is no way to attach the kit to the remaining 2 screw-in points. Thus, the radio is not as secure as it could be. The manufacturer needs to add extra attachment points which allows installers to attach the radio with all 4 screw-in points. Second, the dash kit does not rest securely or otherwise hold onto the car outside of the two screw holes provided. Thus, the entire kit + radio is relying on two screw-in points through a plastic "rest". This is a flimsy design. Finally, the face of the kit does not fit well into the car's dash panel. I have tried removing, re-seating, and re-securing the dash kit 6 or 7 times, and trying to tweak the fit with every bit of wiggle room. But, no matter how hard I try, the faceplate of this dash kit bends and warps in weird ways when you re-secure your car's dash panel to the dashboard. This results in a horribly junky look and the install kit is bowed and warped. Poor design, poor fit, but not many other choices out there. It shouldn't be this difficult to have a properly fitting dash kit.
Pros: Easy to prepare for installation.
Cons: Instructions are confusing in regards to knowing which set of instructions to follow. The fit is poor. The dash kit does not secure after-market radios as snugly to the vehicle as the factory radio kit did. Almost more trouble than it's worth.

Bad Fit for 1997 Accord SE
Scott from Orange County, CA on 2/17/2012
This kit is not a good fit for the 1997 Accord SE (Special Edition). It provides little to no support to hold the unit in place. I had to do a lot of bending on my Pioneer's shallow install cage to get it to stay somewhat firm in this trim kit. Then, this kit does not attach solidly. It's held in by two screws below, but since it's all plastic, it's shaky, not rock-solid like the factory stereo mount. And to top it all off, when I went to put the console trim back on, it's not even close to a good fit. The stereo is mounted too low and the install kit is too wide for the trim piece to fit properly. I don't see any way to fix this. Fortunately it came free with my stereo, so I'm not out any cash for it. But unfortunately, I am now shopping for an install kit that fits.
Pros: Almost fits a 1997 Accord SE.
Cons: Does not actually fit a 1997 Accord SE.

Once I shaved down the edges and corners it slid into my Accord easy! It is very solid though, in comparison to the old one that I had for my previous installation and looks great.
Pros: Looks great Seems very sturdy
Cons: Didn't fit without "modifications"

Very Good; better than expected
LarryM from Camarillo, CA on 11/17/2010
1997 Honda Accord LX
This installation kit came with the Kenwood CD/Receiver I recently purchased for my '97 Honda Accord LX wagon. Frankly, I was skeptical about this kit because based on the quality of so many things we see these days, I wasn't expecting much. But everything I needed for a painless installation was there, including excellent instructions with outstanding illustrations that made it very clear what I was doing each step of the way. If you can read and follow (well written) instructions and know how to use basic hand tools, you should have no problem getting the job done in a short time. I suppose the quality of the plastic parts could be a little bit better, but the overall fit is excellent and the finished product has the appearance of a factory installation so I'm quite happy.

Mounting Kit Not Perfect
Gary from Ridgefield, CT on 6/8/2009
1997 Honda Accord LX
The mounting kit had poor install documentation as well as a poor fit for my 1997 Honda Accord SE. The literature had two different installations but I didn't realize it until I spent a lot of time trying to use the wrong one. The one I needed to use was called a DIN install, which because DIN is a european standard, I ignored. The literature didn't say that there were two installs and why I should pick either one. Once I figured out the right install, it still did not go well. Inserting the wired receiver into the dash area supposedly would "click into place". There was no click. Instead it rested loosely on a surface. When I installed the Honda dash panel over the receiver it was not a good fit. I struggled with getting the panel over the receiver for a long time because the kit was a very tight fit with the panel and the receiver was not "clicked" into place. After a struggle, I managed to get it installed only partially well but I had to use a screwdriver to pry the the kit into the dash panel. The panel remains partially snapped into place with the receiver applying pressure forward wanting to push the dash panel out. I read only good reviews before buying the receiver with mounting kit. It was supposed to be easy. My Accord is an SE (special edition) and I was only asked if the car was a DX, LX or EX. The SE has a simulated wood dash panel but I can't imagine that it is different.

decent fit but not perfect
dano from Phoenix AZ on 11/11/2008
1996 Honda Accord LX
I was replacing the stock head unit in my 96 Honda Accord and this piece was what was recommended for the fit. It took some persuasion to fit in the hole and get all the plastic to line up relatively close. There is still a section of plastic that has a slightly larger gap than it used to. All in all it was fine and maybe because all the rest of the stuff from Crutchfield went in without a hitch, I may be a bit hard on this item. However the fact still remains that I have a slight gap in my plastic that was not there before.
