Metra 99-8211 Dash Kit

Fit was pretty good, a slight bowing around the top and bottom of the stereo faceplate, but ended the install with a clean fit and finish overall. Had some side pieces inside the dash that did not work in the kit, but made it work without them. The color was a very close match to the OEM dash trim. For the price, definitely a good value.

It works good, but not perfect

In my 02 Avalon XL, It fits snug and was fairly easy to put in. I have the manual climate control, and at the bottom of the adapter and the climate control sticks out about a 3/4 of an inch. It works and performs like it's supposed to, just the finish isn't perfect.

Worked as described

Worked as intended. As stated in some other reviews, it required a minor modification of clips in the dash to fit in a 2001 Avalon XLS. Other than that, the installation was simple very straightforward. As a side note, I was concerned about how the kit would look when installed as I have a woodgrain dash and the kit is black. Despite my concerns, it looks good and matches well with the car. Obviously you can tell its aftermarket, but it doesn't look too cheap.

Works ok!

Though directions were not clear, application ended up being intuitive enough to assemble components to make everything work. I am an engineer, so was easy. Others may be confused but call Crutchfield and I am sure they can provide excellent direction.

TOUGH FIT!

This kit needs some tweeking. It will not fit "cleanly" with the air unit. Even when removing the the uneeded tabs on the sides. The console and dash, especially the upper air vents, removal instructions were lacking and those air vents are very fragile around the blades, you really need a special hook tool for the vents. I would not suggest this kit, if there are others to try. The plastic is a bit flimsy and this is the big problem with the clean fit......not enough tork strength between the plastic pieces to sink it down and hold the line between the tuner part and EOM part and the edges of the console/dash when fully bolted down. Just not a clean fit, crisp fit. Still fit ok, probably not that noticable to others, but I see it evertime I look at it.

Mounting was a nightmare

It doesn't fit in my 2001 XLS, even when I trimmed the said side brackets, the A/C controls was off centered, as was the whole mount, so theres a slight opening under the center air vents and I had to hot glue the edges to get it to hold. Overall, not happy with the outcome, whoever made this should have tested it and would have seen that it doesn't fit.

professional finish

The kit fits and looks very well for aftermarket. The end result looks very professional. I love having the pocket under the stereo. The stereo installed had a rear usb cord. I drilled a hole in the rear of the pocket, put the cord through the hole and a grommet, then fit the grommet into the hole - worked perfectly. USB drive or iPod not stows into the pocket beneath the stereo. Two things about the instructions - the vents above the stereo did not come out as described and the cables for the climate control had to come off to allow enough movement for installation. The latter was not covered by the installation instructions with this kit nor the Master Sheet provided - and it was a real pain. Everything else was great and I am very much pleased with the outcome.

Just a little tricky, but looks clean when done the right way.

Instructions were really great, but the kit did not just go right in. When the oem radio was removed there are 4 mounting tabs that i think are really there for no reason? the bottom one on both sides need to be cut using a dremel. also the kennwood stereo did not fit perfectly in the space provided. granted this radio application and shape isn't the best to replicate i think this product was decent. there was no way i could have done this without the detailed instructions. thanks Crutchfield. i called twice for assistance, i recommend telling customers about the tabs when they call about this certain application. i will definitely buy from you guys again =)

Instructions need a touch up

The insert works well with one minor exception. There are two tabs in the dash that need to be removed/reduced to allow the unit and the temperature controls to sit flush. First attempt at install the tabs in the opening prevented unit from sliding all the way back. Once these wer removed the unit sits well in the opening. Even my wife complemeted me on the profesional look to the finish!

MODIFICATION NEEDED

Ok, this item holds the unit,but it wont go in the dash unless you cut the center mounting tabs for the OEM mount out of the way, then it still doesn't mount correct. The face plate wont install with the Sony units, so you have to look at the wholes where the face cover goes. It is also not very strong, some of the potholes in Calif freeways make the unit bounce. I know move out of California!! Had it not been been for the guyz at the tech support line, I might have sent the whole thing back. There has to be another mount. This one is cheesy.

Dash Kit for 2000 Avalon

Instruction were great, with one exception. The kit was obstructed on the sides by some plastic tabs that are not needed for installation on an Avalon. Perhaps the same kit is used on other Toyotas and is needed for them. Once the tabs were cut the kit went in and is a little off center and could not be straighten up. But over all I am pleased with the kit. Instructions with pictures were great, I don't want to think what I would have done without those detailed instructions. Thanks again.
