Must have to make everything come together and look great!

Great kit as it makes everything come together and fit well. However with the type of radio I bought, the storage area is useless as I can't get to it without taking the 9" screen off the head unit. Also for my 2002 Camry, I don't fully trust the security of the mounting. It's cheap plastic more or less as no metal brackets for with this harness. So I feel someone could easily rip the unit out if they wanted.

Perfect for the 2002 Toyota Camry!

Excellent. Co-workers were impressed and appreciated the clean look of the installation. I like that they added an "L" and an "R" on each of the side tabs, the previous kits from Metra didn't do this, so that was a nice improvement that I noticed. I still had to use the pictures to line it all up perfectly. The thinner part of the strip going up and down on each side of the faceplate is at the bottom and the wider part is at the top for orientation. Insert the radio from BEHIND the assembled dash kit (or slide the dash kit directly into the front of the radio) and the front plate will fit right on the front plate of the radio. I was dumb initially and tried to push the back of the radio through the front of the dash kit, which obviously won't work because the car stereo chassis is wider than the front faceplate of the dash kit. You'll figure it out, it's easy. Use hand tools so you don't over tighten, but the abs plastic seems very strong, which is great!

Hmmmmmm...

I wasn't thrilled how flimsy this was, and surprised Crutchfield would supply such a kit! It completely lacked the top two main clip supports that left the vent housing with nothing to clip onto! Oh well, I am in prayer that it can hold up??

Has a decent trim so that it looks more professional, though it could be better in some regards. The trim was a bit too flexible for my liking, especially when trying to keep the side fins in place. There aren't many available holes to secure the radio in, especially for a slimmer radio like the JVC KW590MBT. Securing the radio was a bit nerve racking too, since the side fins bend easily as you're tightening the 4 screws. Overall though it does the job.

Once we saw this review, our Tech Support team reached out to Jamess to let him know he'll have to remove the plastic trim ring on the front of the radio first, as it will not be used. It's important to note that the radio will enter the kit from the rear, only the faceplate of the radio will pass through the kit opening from the back end of the kit, the radio chassis does not pass through the kit opening. Good Dash Kit 2003 Camry

A workable fit kit to blend with your dashboard. Took a lot of fiddling around, but got it to fit, centered in dash pretty well. The mounting pieces are plastic, as opposed to the factory metal but I could not get those to fit well enough, or be able to attach the faceplate to them. While not as strong as the metal factory mounting brackets, the head unit is so much lighter that I suspect they will hold just fine. Face place took the most time as you have to do a light install to check fit, and disassemble and try again, probably several times.

2003 Camry

When using this kit, you cannot reuse the existing stereo mounting brackets (it replaces them) which have additional slots around the stereo (2 above, 2 below) that connect to the inner edge of the dash assembly that surrounds the stereo. The dash assembly will still re-install without attaching at the inner edges and will still clip in around the outer edges, but it may not be quite as secure. I had a previous kit that was compatible with the existing mounting brackets so I elected to reuse that instead of taking a chance with this kit.

Great kit with one slight flaw.

Great kit overall. All the screws that were supplied would not work with the head unit I purchased. They were all way to short and I had to source other screws which luckily I had laying around in my tool box.

Does the job

Used it to install an Alpine iLX-407. It gets the job done and looks fine when installed. Some of the mounting bracket holes allow very little play when attaching to the receiver so here's a user tip: The instructions say put the trim piece on the receiver first and then mount the brackets, but this tends to pull the brackets forward and make it difficult to line up screws through the bracket into receiver screw holes. Instead, simply attach the brackets first, slip the trim piece over the receiver, and lastly press the trim piece "wings" into the bracket slots - the "wings" are flexible enough to bend into place without risk of cracking.

Feels flimsy

The metra double din kit was installed on my 2003 Toyota Camry. Installation was a breeze thanks to easy to follow instructions, but I noticed an uneven gap on the bottom between the kit and car trim. I've tried adjusting it for several hours which made no difference. The edges look fine but it's just the bottom center that looks bowed.

Not a bad setup but not the greatest, the screws to mount those ears that hold the radio in place, are too short without putting a bevel in those screw slots. You would save the purchaser some time and trouble, if the instructions stated this.

More trouble than it's worth.

For my 2003 Camry this did not work. I ended using the factory mounting bracket and modifying the plastic brackets in this kit to mount the front trim piece. Even with the modifications, the trim piece didn't fit great. The included mounting brackets were very flimsy, thin plastic. Had this not been included in the cost, I would have asked for my money back.

A fit that needs more engineering

The part fits, somewhat. The top rear mounting holes line up, however, the arms of the item that reach to the car bolt holes need a notch in the arm to allow the holes to line up. The car has a rib that rides on the top ridge of the bracket that hits the mounting bracket. A relief has to be put into the arm so that the bolt plates sit flat, else the alignment it off and bolts cannot be seated 100%.

Metra 99-8231 dash adapter

The Metra 99-8231 replaces metal pieces in the dash, (on the sides of the stereo), with plastic pieces. They seem a bit flimsy, but you have to use them, because they hold the trim piece around the front of the stereo in place. I modified mine, so that I could use both the Metra plastic pieces and the original metal pieces. (it worked, is about all I can say).

Seems flimsy at first, but, after attached to the radio, holds together OK. I did not need the pocket so I don't know how well it fits. Other reviews mention the lack of metal fasteners for the trim after removing the OEM radio bracket....I do not see this being an issue. Looks good in the dash and......its a great price!

Quite disappointed in all of the aftermarket kits. My dash attached to the old radio no longer attaches, leaving multiple points not attached in my Camry. Going from a metal mount to a plastic bracket was very disappointing. I have looked everywhere and no one makes an OEM metal bracket that would attach to an aftermarket kit that looks halfway decent. At least it looks pretty good as long as you don't pull on the dash which unfortunately comes apart too easy now.

Looks good after install in 2003 Toyota Camry. The only downside was the screws were difficult to screw into the side of the pioneer stereo I used with this product. I'm not sure if that was more of a problem with the deck than this kit, but it only slowed me down a little with the install. Overall very satisfied.

Flimsy cheap plastic

Dash kit worked just fine, but the plastic is very thin and it leaves a small gap on the bottom. Also, Toyota had some very sturdy metal brackets off the factory radio, I wish they reused those. it would make it harder for someone to just come in and rip the unit out of the dash (cannot use the cage in this kit and you bolt flimsy plastic in)

It is a bit flimsy. The first one I received was actually broken, despite the fact that it was packaged very well. (Crutchfield shipped a replacement immediately) The plastic is just very thin. It does fit the dash well but as other's have noted, it does leave a bit of a gap at the bottom.
