Metra's AX-TOYUSB-2 cable allows you to keep the factory USB port in your Toyota when you install a new car stereo. One end of the cable connects at the factory Multi-Media Interface ECU, an electronics module located in the dash or console depending on the specific vehicle, while the other end plugs into the USB port on the back of your new car stereo. This cable came with my installation package as well. I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra and this cable did not connect up to my vehicle. No big deal however, I am only loosing an aux. port which I no longer needed since I have Bluetooth now.

The brown connector goes to the Toyota dashboard jack/USB socket. The male USB goes to the female USB connector coming from the back of the head unit.

If I have an OEM USB port AND I want to install one can I use a USB splitter/combiner to connect the two to the same USB port on the back of the receiver head unit? The OEM port is in the glove box (good for an old iPod, but not convenient for connecting my phone for Apple CarPlay). The MMI is difficult to get to so I'd like to make sure the juice is worth the squeeze before making an attempt to install this adapter.

I'm not positive, but I don't think so. I never had any luck with USB splitters. I didn't put too much time into it, but I'm pretty sure it won't work. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. ??

The ability to use a USB hub with an aftermarket radio varies depending on the radio's design. However, USB hubs often interfere with the ability to run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well. Your goal is better met with a receiver that has two USB ports. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss all your goals and get a personal recommendation on what gear will work

2012 Tacoma This does not seem to fit my 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport without JBL and Nav. The instructs are not clear, I assumed it would just plug in with the other connection provided, but it does not. Am I supposed to plug it into the module behind the glove box? If so, he cable will be too short.
I am trying to maintain the factor look, but will add another USB connection in the dash if needed.

I'm not sure on the comparability with a Tacoma but it worked on my FJ cruiser between my Sony head unit and factory USB outlet. I would imagine it would work as long as the Tacoma plug has that type connector.

This part only works if you have USB only on your in-dash, it will not work with the USB/AUX. They do make a connector for USB/AUX, but I do not have the part number

Maybe I'm totally confused, but I could not see any possible configuration for the cable to work in my Tundra and returned it to Crutchfield.

It connects the oem ish connector to the aftermarket stereo. It was a bit difficult to locate the plug though. It is way over under the passenger side kick panel.

I have one on my 13 Tundra with an Alpine ics-x7hd HU and the brown end needs to be plugged into what I believe is the multi-media interface (located under the left side of the glove box). Once you remove the radio and HVAC controls you will be able to see it from that opening as well. The plug connector you need to plug into is the same color as this cable and there is only 1. The USB will plug into the USB port on the rear of your HU. It is a Pain to get to.
