I bought this as a replacement for my old AVH-4200DVD. I planned on an easy compatible swap, NOT! The main connector is not identical (even though information I researched says all Pioneer connectors are identical between units, they are not. The power pin is on the opposite side. I ended up having to cut all of my wires and connect them to the new connector. Just what I was trying to avoid. The head unit itself is great and the 5 volt preamp outputs to my amp is a plus.
Pros: Bluetooth and Android compatible.
Cons: Pioneer connectors from one head unit to another are not identical. I recommend that you have Crutchfield specify the right adapter for your vehicle.

2015 GMC Terrain
The install instructions left out a few details, but tech support was great with Crutchfield. But something is wrong with this unit. There's a defect, that won't allow me to operate the touch screen. I touch a button and the unit jumps to different screens. I can't even program stations. I think it needs a hard reset. Too busy to mess with it until the weekend. And the remote has never worked. Probably fine if working properly. I'm at a loss, and regretting the purchase. Looks like I'll be on the phone with tech support a 3rd time soon

Installed easily in my car, sounds great, and carplay works well. However, the LCD screen is glossy, so it reflects the car's interrior and the data on it is difficult to see under a daylight condition. The brightness and contrast control let you select how faded the screen looks, but they do not do much to enhance the visibility of the screen. I cannot really recomment this unit due to the week brightness/contrast of the LCD screen.

Just installed this - sound is much better than stock unit (did not add new speakers). Unit is pretty straight forward when it comes to options. Install with Crutchfield help was not seamless but finally worked. Unit is 4" deep whereas stock unit was 3.5" deep - Crutchfield says you'll have to hacksaw off a couple of tabs. I had to do more than that and ended up trimming away some trim as well as muscling the frame with channel locks to get the new unit to fit - but it finally did. Love having apple car play! Kept all my steering wheel controls, and actually can now get stats on my car too. Would never try to install without the Crutchfield Ready Harness service - but even with that I needed some additional help. Crutchfield service techs are AWESOME and the reason I have been a Crutchfield customer for more than 20 years.
Pros: Apple car play, retained steering wheel controls, back up camera, better sound.
Cons: Fit is very tight and required more manipulation than anticipated. Could have used better instructions on what existing system wires would no longer be used.

Exceptional, satisfied without a doubt. David "lined me" up with everything needed to make removal of the old OEM and installation of my new Pioneer without any "glitches". However, one question, I was expecting when a CD was inserted that the Screen would show the Title of the Song being played not just the Track Number - am I missing something in settings for the Pioneer to do that?

Great Radio!! Tried to put in a JVC before and install was troublesome. This was much easier. Paired with maestro rr and working out better than expected. Apple CarPlay is awesome. Great to be completely hands free. Would recommend. Metra kit for 2014 Toyota Sienna was a little interesting since they don't really make one for this vehicle. Car is not even listed in the instructions. But got it to work.

2018 Volkswagen Passat
Replaced factory car stereo with the Pioneer AVH-1550NEX. Although I considered my original car stereo good, it is clearly not in the same class as the AVH-1550NEX. This Pioneer radio has all of the cutting edge technology including compatibility with both apple and android phones, backup camera compatibility with factor camera, GPS navigation, messaging using microphone, watching YouTube videos while stationery and a lot more. Great car stereo!!!

2012 Mazda CX-9
Replaced my 2012 Mazda CX-9 Touring Bose head unit with the AVH-1550NEX, all went without a hitch and now I have great CarPlay integration. The only issue I had was connecting the rearview camera, the interface kit I got (MAZCAM-6V) didn't match the car connector, but was able to identify the cables and rewired the interface kit to match, so problem solved. The HU illumination settings work a bit differently than the standard unit so it takes some getting used to. For instance when driving on highway during the day with lights on, the illumination attenuation gets in the way. Luckily there are several options to optimize how the illumination works so I'm still tweaking it.
Pros: CarPlay EQ just a click away Button to switch display between carplay and music is very handy!
Cons: Getting illumination option right takes some time and testing different driving conditions

Had this head unit installed in my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Sound quality is such an improvement over the stock system. I added standard Kicker CSC65 speakers and a Kicker 8" Subwoofer. Sound is crisp and clean. Totally recommend.

A very good unit for the price. I swapped out the Winnebago installed Jensen Head Unit for the Pioneer. The Pioneer sounds and looks much better than the Jensen. Please note: For the E-Series Ford trucks (2009-2014). You will need a face trim bezel. Also, Crutchfield was there for me, when I had installation questions. They are the best!

Excellent replacement for my OEM non-Bose radio in my 2007 Porsche 911. I wanted bluetooth, Carplay, etc. and this is just right. Looks good too - will add pic. Saving the original radio in case I ever decide to sell the car, since real collectors often prefer OEM without the modern conveniences. Crutchfield is a pleasure to work with!

Easy to install into my 2005 F350 with some minor trimming of the trim. Has nice sound and a lot of settings to allow you to personalize the displays. The main mount bracket in my truck makes the radio have a slight angle in the dash but otherwise you would almost guess it was factory.

2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
I installed this in my wife's 2008 Wrangler Unlimited, complete with Brandmotion backup camera. What they say about Jeep radios is true, they are de-tuned garbage, even the Infinity systems. If you don't install this unit, for God's sake, install SOMETHING!!! The speakers are fine with a good head unit. This unit literally woke up the Jeep. The sound is absolutely amazing from any source, the Bluetooth connection is lightning quick and the menu layout makes sense. Comes with a slightly larger-than-most remote that won't easily get lost like others have in the past. Haven't really done much with the features yet, will follow back up after 6 months for an extended review.
Pros: Ease of use, incredible sound with both present and custom 10 band EQ settings, nice remote, integrates perfectly with vehicle, bright easy to see screen.
Cons: Full sized double DIN DVD unit, so beware if the dash area is tight. It JUST fit in the 2008 Wrangler dash, even after removing the factory unit and factory retaining bracket. However, I also added the big T-harness and datalink integration box, which add ALOT of wires. It did all tuck away nicely though. Just an FYI...

I really like it. There are a lot, though, of instructions, to get it the way you want it. I do, wish, that you can add, other art/pictures, to the theme screen, instead of just the bricks and the few others. If there is a way, I haven't heard about, or seen it. Other than that, I enjoy having it.

Install went well without tech support. The device pretty much works nicely. However, here are the problems, 1) The screen at times gets so faded you cannot see the screen and I can't figure out how to adjust the brightness 2) The Bluetooth microphone is TERRIBLE. I have tried putting it in the original location, on the dash, etc. no location worked. If I picked it up and spoke into it then it worked, but that defeats the purpose of the Bluetooth. I have a 15 Altima S and the reason I got this unit was because the OEM Bluetooth was terrible, this unit is WORSE, with regards to the Bluetooth. 3) Recently, I have been having the issue where my car play would just shut off in middle and I would need to unplug and replug in the USB cable. Otherwise, the sound and Apple CarPlay is a nice addition to my car.

Excellent features. I coupled it with a Maestro iDataLink steering wheel function unit and a SiriusXM tuner (which I mounted on my dash and it has fantastic reception there). I hard wired the parking brake for DVD play when engaged. But outside of being a phenomenal upgrade I want to say Crutchfield tech support was there for me in every step of installation. They emailed me actual photos of the backside of my fuse box when wiring to the parking brake, wiring diagrams for the Maestro; they were amazing help. It is a great unit that serves me well and I could not be more happy with the techs at Crutchfield. Pioneer is a name I can trust...as is Crutchfield. It wound up being a win/win situation.

The sound it puts out is excellent with Sirius XM and CD's. The one major drawback is that it is very hard to see during the daylight, which may cause distraction when trying to change channels or operation since it has Apple Carplay. Living in Florida with mostly very bright days makes it quite difficult. I am baffled why Pioneer didn't consider how the glare affects the driver's ability to see the screen, as the units that come standard in many new vehicles.

This item does everything we needed from android and apple car compatibility , cds/dvd's, and works great with our old ipod too, all for a very reasonable price when compared to other items from pioneer and their competitors. Stoked on this purchase! Our family will get a ton of use with this item, and we didn't break the bank.
Pros: We can watch movies in out tiny rv (honda element) while car camping the southwest. A HUGE deal, with kids when weather moves into our area. We can also use apple maps, AND third party maps like google and Waze... which can sometimes help with the miles of dirt roads we end up on out in the rural areas we like to travel to. Connected easily to our vehicles amps for the factory speakers and subwoofer and the sound os better than before.
Cons: Dvd does not play without parking brake engaged but that's actually a safety issue, so its more of a mention than a CON

I chose this unit for the features, my wife wanted a CD player, I wanted a backup camera, and we definitely wanted Apple Car Play compatible. Installation was pretty easy except for steering wheel controls, which took a little experimenting on her 2012 Altima.

Okay but background noise

It's a nice unit and I'll leave it in but if I knew now how it would be I would not have bought it. For one it makes background noise. It hums. At first it made even more noise so I installed an antenna noise filter. Then discovered when it ground more noise entered so I had to use rubber grommets to isolate it from car frame. Tried filters in power leads. This might be the fault of the car but still. Second the unit doesn't drive existing CD player. I knew that up front but now I miss that capability. Just stupid that they can't provide that function in new radios. It did connect to my phone easily and all the phone functions work which is very cool and the reason I'll leave it in. Crutchfield support was only marginally helpful with fixing the noise. But their wire bundle and install kit was marvelous.
Pros: iPhone connection and functions work great.
Cons: Background noise and doesn't drive existing CD player.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Just installed this stereo with the maestro module to retain factory controls in my Cherokee the other night. Must say i have install many stereos in my day. Its been along time since the last one (18 years). Must admit I was a little intimidated. Crutchfield made this super easy to get professional results and thier tech support was awesome I think I spoke with Stan. He gave me the info I needed, answered all the questions I had and made me feel a lot more comfortable. With that said, pioneer avh 1550nex is pretty impressive. I'm still trying to figure out some of the features but so far everything is working as it should, looks like its factory and sounds amazing. The Maestro unit was easy to add to keep the the factory amplifier, speakers, controls, and even added some really cool additional features. Things like check engine light codes, customizable gauges that are not on my dash with alert options, ability to adjust gain on the factory amp, not that I will ever use them but this thing even will do track and 1/4 mile times. I am very happy with these units. Crutchfield is awesome, fast delivery, great customer service and tech support. With service like this Crutchfield will always have a customer in me. Thanks Crutchfield

nice product, have yet to watch any dvd s tho. unit has color screen options and background scenes. i like the optional fader of the front to rear amp control . theres also the separate volume control of each speaker plus sub, a nice feature. The only thing that bothers me is the screen really seems to attract finger prints but that will typically come with any touchscreen. Recommend for anyone looking for Apple CarPlay!

Sounds and looks great in my car (a 2007 Honda Civic LX...for now I kept the factory speakers). I didn't want to spend a lot (which you can to get wireless connectivity for carplay and/or navigation), but with this unit I just plug in my phone to the USB connection and I get apple carplay and navigation through my "maps" app. I like the CD player too (call me "old school" if you want!). Some of the screens on the AVH-1550NEX are hard to see in bright sunlight, but I am getting used to it. It was pretty easy to install (don't buy anywhere else...Crutchfield provides the best instructions and installation gear customized for your car). By the way, kudos to my advisor, Sam, who suggested the PAC USBDMA6 cable for the USB connection. It allows you to put the USB connection anywhere you want to drill a 5/8" hole (I put it in the storage bin in front the shift lever with a little glue for added stability). Sam also suggested the "posi-products" tap-it connectors for the connection to the parking brake wire...not necessary, but handy and will keep you from maybe cutting the parking brake wire. Look at the Crutchfield installation video for your car...in the case of the 2007 civic, it showed everything INCLUDING how to get to the parking brake wire. I'm mentioning that because I happened to find the video AFTER I did the install, and wished I had seen it first.
Pros: Great sound (with factory speakers). Wired (USB) connection for apple carplay works well (and charges phone at the same time). Price is reasonable for lots of features. Install went well (wiring harness has all connections except microphone, USB, antenna and parking brake wire). Crutchfield provides great instructions and gear to help the install be as easy as possible.
Cons: Some screens are a little hard to see in very bright sunlight.

2014 Subaru Outback
We bought this to replace the stereo in my wife's 2014 Outback. The stock stereo was having electrical gremlins, and this was the 2nd time. This seemed like a good time to upgrade to a stereo with Apple Car Play. So far, we really like it. The sound is very good with the stock speakers. The interface is pretty good. There is a learning curve, and to switch between some of the functions is a little unclear. The only real "issue" we have has to do with the Maestro unit to enable steering wheel controls. The directions were not super clear, and so when you press the "up" setting button on the steering wheel, it equates to a "down" on the radio presets. This is because the stereo logic is "up" is a higher number (1-6), whereas the old stereo read 1 as the top of the list. The other issue with the Maestro, is that we cannot advance the track on the CarPlay using the steering wheel controls. Again, I think that is a set-up issue because I didn't know you had to set that as well. I need to call Crutchfield and see if I can reflash the Maestro, or if we are stuck with these settings. My laziness is because I don't want to uninstall everything to get back to the Maestro unit. All that being said, we really like the unit, and I'm considering getting one for my VW.

Cons: A little unclear how to get some functions to work = learning curve. The dash trim piece is a little flimsy on the bottom horizontal section. Mechanically easy to install, but the wiring instructions could be more clear.

The Pioneer AVH-1550NEX is a spectacular stereo for the price point. As an Mazda RX8 owner just make sure you READ EVERYTHING first so you don't leave things out. Like an amp turn on wire when you have a BOSE system in your car, and make sure you hookup the parking brake wire or you'll not have functionality in several areas of the stereo. But the service at Crutchfield is the best in the business, and the products they sell are really incredible. This stereo is very intuitive, easy to navigate, sync'd right up to my iphone and the ApplePlay works perfect. Really impressed with this double din deck. It sounds way better than the stock stereo I pulled out and I didn't do a thing to the existing speakers. Looking forward to doing more business in the future! Thank you Crutchfield!

Not an easy navigation unit, the instructions suck, wish I would have chosen a different stereo. Oh well, water under the bridge, HOWEVER, your personnel is 5 stars all the way, who ever is in charge of hiring should get a medal, I encountered about 4 different people and they were all professional, empathetic, and most of all knowledgeable of your products, I will recommend your company to anyone who listens.

Love it! CarPlay is awesome! Everything I expected and more. So easy to use just plug in your phone and the apps pop up on the screen. Crutchfield hooked me up with everything I needed to connect all the accessories, even steering wheel controls! The trim kit for my Element makes the Pioneer unit look factory. The other features on the AVH1550NEX are awesome as well, added a backup camera via the dedicated port, great picture with adjustable guidelines. Great sound ,Bluetooth calls and audio. Thinking about pulling the factory nav and premium audio out of my other cars and replacing them with this unit. Again, love it! Thanks Crutchfield and Pioneer!!

I like being able to set my backup lines on the stereo and use the backup as a rear view mirror at times. I was a little disappointed with the size of the screen - I wanted a 7" one and this is whatever it is (I got it as a gift). I got the idatalink module to keep my steering wheel controls and after some troubleshooting, I got those working well. Something I think most people care about is Bluetooth functionality. I had some problems (see below) but after I figured it out, the Bluetooth appears to work great. My music starts playing as soon as the stereo turns on which was something that was important to me. Crutchfield's ready harness service or whatever it's called was the major reason I bought from their site, and I tell you what, it was WORTH IT. I didn't have to wire anything. 100% plug and play. Something I didn't realize about this head unit is that it shows vehicle information like which doors are open, faults or codes the truck sends, and even shows RPMs, fuel capacity as a percentage and so forth. It's not something I was expecting but I love it. You can configure your controls to pull it up on demand, too, so when I push my "OK" button on my steering wheel, the vehicle info comes up. I love that. The user interface seems easy enough to navigate, though I think the screen is a little crowded for my taste. Other than that, I can't say I have anything to complain about. The instructions were super vague and tech support was only able to answer a couple of questions I had. I got it all figured out and I'm loving it.

I like the many features of this aftermarket Pioneer. I bought it for my daughter to upgrade her 2014 Corolla factory radio to give CarPlay features so she could have better navigation capabilities and a better overall user experience than the built in Toyota entune system
Pros: Great receiver for the price
Cons: Install instructions could be more straightforward. I am technical, but there are things that could be spelled out more clearly when you pay for an install kit. Crutchfield provides there instructions, the interface kit provides there and the face plate kit another set.

Finally installed this deck In my wife's car yesterday in a 2007 Corolla S. Installed the 6' USB cable to the existing auxiliary 12v charger in the center console to use apple CarPlay. I wanted one with threads on the back so I can tighten it instead of just popping it into a 3/4" hole. The mic was installed along the headliner and down the A pillar trying not do disturb the airbag. Crutchfield made the purchase easy and had everything I needed to install this unit without any problems. Wiring harness adapter and the install kit was free! The AVH-1550NEX looks amazing. Many color screen options and a few display background options. Sound is better than stock and radio reception is great. Pioneer has a reputation for making great tuners. DVD's and CD's looks and sounds great. I would highly recommend purchasing any car stereo from Crutchfield due to the customer support. I didn't have any problems but just knowing I could get the help was reassuring. YouTube is another option provided they have your vehicle. Amazon offers the same products but not this time for me. My wife likes it....Happy wife happy life!

Cons: Volume control buttons and remote control useless unless you have passengers in the back seat.

I replaced the stereo in my truck mainly b/c of the hands free law that went in to effect so I could talk on the phone legally but the sound quality is ---- awesome. It improved when I replaced the front speakers in my 2006 Nissan crew cab Frontier with some 6x9 JVC's but when I put the Pioneer AVH-1550 NEX in the sound quality drastically improved!! Just need to replace my rear speakers now and I be jammin even better all thanks to Crutchfield!!!!

Love this in my 05 Ram. I don't have the OEM Infinity sound or a way to plug my phone in so this did the trick. CarPlay is a real sweet spoil having GPS and music without being distracted from the road when I have my race trailer loaded on. Only downfall was the USB/MP3 ports being on the back but it made for a cleaner, OEM+ look.

Junk. First, the screen is glossy, which makes it very difficult to see during the day, especially when wearing polarized sunglasses. OEM CarPlay headsets are nearly 100% more visible in all light conditions. It seems like it was designed to look good in a show room, but not in actual use. This is very disappointing. Second, the back-up camera at first worked perfectly, but after about two months stopped triggering when the car is placed in reverse. Now I have to manually turn on the camera when backing up, which requires more clicks when the phone is plugged in. I had the same problem with my first unit, an AVH-1440NEX, so I can only conclude that all Pioneer units would have this problem.

I really like this receiver. I did the install myself, with the help of YouTube, and found step by step directions to remove my old unit. Everything went pretty seamless, with the exception of scratching up my panel a little. I'd recommend using masking tape to protect your car but my 08' Tacoma has its battle wounds as is. What's 1 more, right? Haven't tried the DVD features yet. Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay are a great upgrade!

This radio was installed in a Ram Promaster Pleasure-Way RV along with a SiriusXM radio receiver. The installation went very well. I have retained all original vehicle electronic functions except for the microphone. Even the factory radio USB port was retained. Which is possible by using the provided USB cable along with the data transfer cable you use to program the Maestro unit. I used the microphone included with the new radio, which was installed next to the rearview mirror. Also, I was able to cut the plug connector end of the antenna wire and splice it back together to make it easier to fish through back to the dashboard. This is a really great set up. I'm very happy! Thank you!

I love it! I am still getting used to where eveything is, but that is with any unit.
Pros: It always connects to my phone right away.
Cons: Does not smoothly connect to my radio every time for Spotify. Sometime i have to swith to bluetooth audio, and back to get it right. When the disclaimer comes up, i can not adjust the volume, sometimes the last song i listened to is nice and loud, then i come back.... WOW.

My truck is a 2006 Tacoma. What can I use to describe my experience with this unit? Awesome! Phenomenal! When I heard the sound after installing the head unit, I had to double check I was still sitting in my truck because I am yet to replace the stock speakers . It was so so so good I couldn't believe it. This means that when I replace my stock speakers, my truck will feel like a concert hall. The user interface is also simple and classy. Gentle on the eye and very intuitive. Every touch responds with absolute precision. Only drawback being that apple CarPlay doesn't work in my country (Nigeria) so I can't load google maps onto the screen but then that's not a deal breaker. It connects my 2 phones seamlessly. I'm completely satisfied with my purchase and will now do the same for my Camry.

I haven't had much time to play with it but from what it's showed me so far. Great display and terrific sound couldn't ask for anything better. I am using infinity kappa speakers with no amp and it's loud and crisp sound. Very pleased so far

I have nothing against pioneer. This review is about Crutchfield. If you have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, odds are, this radio isn't entirely compatible. You will have to buy a dash kit from somewhere else, and if you choose to bypass the factory amp, a new amplifier. If you choose to integrate the amp, you will have to find a wiring harness that Crutchfield doesn't offer. And there are many more complications.
