1997 Ford F-250 Heavy Duty
This was a much needed upgrade to my almost 40 year old truck without being a gaudy aesthetic. The installation was super easy following Crutchfield's directions. There are so many options with this unit that I did not expect, but am happy to have. The equalizer options are leaps and bounds of what my stock unit had. For the price point, do not hesitate on pulling the trigger on this one!

Installed in a 2000 ford expedition. Very nice looking and sounding unit with many features to expand your audio needs. No app required to use Bluetooth. Just turn on Bluetooth on your phone find this unit in your list and connect! This unit is a nice little upgrade from the MVH-S512BS it replaced.
Pros: Great build quality,3 sets of 4v pre-outs (front,rear, subwoofer) Front USB, Bluetooth, Plays 24bit flac files, and the crossovers and speaker level settings is great feature to have! Pioneer unit have always been amazing!

One year of headaches and frustration

Cant recommend less. Radio is "bluetooth" but requires an app. If the device doesnt not have the app, for example a nintendo switch, then the radio is unable to connect. Its "bluetooth" as long as your device has the app, which takes a minimum of 30 seconds to connect AFTER you open the app to MANUALLY connect it, because as a car radio, it never wants to play music when the vehicle is turned on, because who would ever want that? The $70 JVC i replaced with this pioneer last year is more functional but less durable with lower sound quality. It may have sounded worse and lasted a year before breaking but it did not require an app and wasted time waiting for it to connect. That JVC connected to my phone so fast i will be buying at least two to replace my first one whenever it breaks. I will never be buying pioneer ever again as long as it requires the pioneer smart sync app, which does NOT automatically connect and start playing. Yes, in the settings there is a switch called "app auto start," however, it only opens the app up for you to manually press connect. If you are numb to tech headaches, lag, useless features, and the worst placed call button ever (directly next to "next track" and if you press it it automatically calls the most recent contact in your phone list. My coworkers love getting a 6:05am call when i accidentally slip my finger and press the wrong button) this radio would be good for you!!! If you enjoy technology that functions easily, keep looking. It sucks.

Antenna insert is screwed up and won't make proper connection with male end of Antenna insert. Mounting cage around radio box would not stay in its slot, like the prongs we're factory screwed up. So stero head would slid in and out of its place.

Unit itself is very nice. Great sound quality, ease of installation with the correct harness and tools, easy to navigate once installed. Disappointment came from Crutchfield, sent me the wrong wiring harness, I said my factory stereo did not have an amp they sent me he harness for an amp, sent me the wrong installation kit not even for my brand car. I had to purchase items needed instead of receiving all within my shipment from Crutchfield. With this it delayed my install for having to pick up items needed to complete the installation. However I do not want to take away from this Pioneer unit as it exceeds my expectations, I highly recommend this unit!! Just wish Crutchfield had of provided the purchasing experience I was expecting as well.

Install was easy, the antenna adapter could have been 4" longer but I made it work. Linking everything was a little frustrating but once figured out it was awesome. So far I like it a lot and would recommend it. It's basic and simple, easy to install and use friendly after you figure it out. Great buy.

Works and sounds as it should. The app isn't the greatest. Easy install took me about 5 minutes to remove the old head unit and install the new one. I couldn't have done it without the pre-assembled ready harness that Crutchfield provides for an additional 25 dollars, highly recommended. Overall great head unit so far, easy install, and solid experience with Crutchfield.

It's pretty rare that I loathe a product and take the time to publicly do so, but here we are. I put this head unit in my truck about two years ago and I've not liked it since day one. The app is horrible. I've never been able to make this Pioneer sound as good as the unit that it replaced, and I've spent countless hours trying - such a waste of time. I'm finally making the decision to order an Alpine from Crutchfield and send this unit off to Goodwill so I can enjoy my truck again. I gave the unit one star because it "works" (depending on how you define works)

Night and day difference! I had a cheap Walmart one and just got this one and no regrets. Many people say they don't like the app but me personally I love it. I can control everything. Hpf, lpf. If you have a system and are debating, just get it. My subs hit way cleaner and the speakers sound more clear. In general you can adjust almost everything. Great buy. Looks nice asf and I can change the color to whatever! Have everything you need for a system. Great addition to the system!

It worked pretty good for 1 year and 6 months then just died. Contacted Pioneer Customer Support Factory Repair and they want $80.00 just to "evaluate" the repair. Pretty crappy customer service Pioneer provides.

This unit is replacing a kenwood dpx305mbt that I smashed was junk and after a month I couldn't take it anymore lol. So I got this Pioneer. Set up was a breeze, did not need a manual for the wiring part of it. The instructions were useful for tweaking the sound. Overall fairly simple. the app isn't bad it basically turns your cell into a remote control and it's not necessary so if you don't want it no need to use it . I use the app cause it turns your cell into a hub of sorts and changing the EQ on the radio or anything else a breeze.As for the sound it's pretty good once you use the EQ settings. Not using them well the music sounds flat. I will say the kenwood sounded better but that was it. I have alpine speakers and amps ( I got here ) and a D.Design sub. So I know it's not my gear lol. Oh yeah being able to change the color on the screen is helpful not just a gimmick. Overall I am happy with this radio it's very user friendly and the price is right I got mine on sale so even better. I subtracted one star because without the EQ I would have returned it the sound was just to flat.
Pros: Easy set up Decent app simple to use. Radio is shallow so will fit in tight space. Can customize color on screen. Button layout makes sense. Spotify ready. Easy to use not overly complicated.
Cons: Must use EQ to sound good. USB is in front not on back. App takes about 10 seconds or so to connect. The speedometer on the app says 140 my car does 160. Takes a bit to synch with Spotify.

Complicated, but simple at the same time. With most music being on an app and no need for a cd player, this unit fills the need. Along with no cd player it also makes it very compact and lets the unit fit in the dash easier.

I am a simple man, I want good sound and an eq. The sound is good but accessing the eq became a nightmare. So here you go, if the app, that they seem to force you to use in the setup, is running, you CAN'T adjust the eq from the head unit itself. You have to use the app and how you adjust the eq is buried away from where you choose the eq. This was very frustrating, avoidable and I had to watch videos and look for comments from others with the same problem to figure this out. I just hope this thing lasts.

Cons: App makes everything MORE difficult and wants to access everything on your phone.

It's a good sounding unit and does exactly what I bought it for,play MP3's from a USB thumb drive. There are a few things I dislike about it though: 1) is how small the buttons are 2) The ease of bumping the bass button or pushing the knob and then trying to hit the return button so you can turn the volume up or down while driving.If it's over a bumpy road good luck at all.Why these functions are that easy to accidentally bump into is a mystery,and why do you need that big Bass button...come on. 3) The range of the BT,50-60' would be a decent distance.

Installed in my 1997 Ford F250. Bought for Bluetooth functions. Picks up and plays music from my iPhone 8 without trouble. Phone calls also work, though the other person on the call says the microphone sound isn't great. The Mic is clipped to the driver's sun visor. Radio reception seems strong. Customization of illumination is a nice touch. Glad to have a volume knob and not just up/down buttons.

I only wanted a Bluetooth six channel stereo. But what I got and very excited about are the capability of the stereo when you use the app. You can adjust the 13 band EQ to your preference. No need to order a remote volume is on there too. All the adjustments and options that the stereo has is also there ! Still need to fine tune but the way I have it now it's still clear. Pioneer has always been my go to and again no disappointments.

I would highly recommend this pioneer head unit to anybody who wants a head unit without a CD player in it it is amazing it has very good sound quality
Pros: This pioneer head unit has very good sound quality and has a lot of different colors you can select from depending on your mood and it has very good subwoofer outputs also has where you can connect your smartphone via the Pioneer app which is a plus and makes it easy to set up your head unit and to set your collars on your head unit you can also customize the caller you want so if you want a great head unit without a CD player this would be the one to get if you want your music to sound really

Great value for the price! Installed relatively easily in the old Mini Cooper. The "amber" color is the closest to color matching the dash lighting. The features were simple to use and it sounds great for a built in amplifier (newer speakers as well). Ran the mic cable and made phone calls. No issues. Simple BT setup. So far this little unit works great. Used Crutchfield's harness "build service" so saved time not having to pin out and make my adapter. Connected to Pandora and Spotify easily.
Pros: Simple to setup.
Cons: the Pioneer app is a little finicky. However, if you have Pandora and/or Spotify it works fine.

Great head unit! Packs a punch for its size and has all of the options available to truly customize your sound. I paired it up with a set of kicker 6x8's and wow! Plus without the cd player it mounts very shallow in the dash which is nice when doing up the wiring.
Pros: Plenty of customization both visually and when it comes to sound. Shorter depth when mounting makes installation a bit easier.
Cons: The buttons are less than "tactile" mainly just the skip and rewind buttons but not enough to dock a star.

It was easy to install and helps bring a little tech to my old car. I found a youtube video very helpful by showing me how to tap into the cigarette lighter for the dimming wire. I'd give it 4.5 stars, getting through the menus can be a little cumbersome. Overall very happy with the upgrade.
Pros: Like the color options to allow the radio to blend in with the existing lighting. Improved sound and love the ability to play music from my phone.

If your replacing a radio in a old car, and want to upgrade to a digital receiver I would recommend this radio. This radio gives you all the functions of a modern radio. You have Bluetooth, phone, pandora, Spotify, usb connector, lighting control, aux input, and a awesome app that almost makes you phone act like a smart screen display. It was a easy set up in my 04 vibe.

Installed this unit in my John Deere backhoe, replacing the 20 year old setup. Connected these to a set of Kicker 5 1/2" speakers and the sound is great, with no amp. Note, connect to the front wires when using only 2 speakers, if you want the phone option to work through the speakers.
Pros: Easy install.
Cons: Little confusing on the initial setup but the Crutchfield team walked me through everything.

This Media player is amazing with lots of features, nice interface, and very powerful. I also purchased 2 sets of Pioneer TS-A682F speaker which sound amazing and crisp with this radio. I also like that it doesn't have a CD player which are becoming obsolete. The car kit, wiring, and install guide made the installation a no brainer.

Pros: Good bass. Lighting color is very adjustable, to match your vehicles color scheme. Can connect with Android apps, Bluetooth, or an Aux port. If you have steering wheel controls, be sure to buy the appropriate adapter.
Cons: Have to use their microphone to make phone calls and use voice features. It won't accept the vehicle's mic or the mic from the device it is blue toothed to.

2001 Toyota Camry
My old 2001 Camry still had the factory 2-Din stereo in it. It sounds fair but I wanted to be able to listen to newer formats of music rather than just cassettes and / or CDs. I decided to go with single-Din head unit and a little "pocket" that goes below it, instead of a pricier double din unit, since this car is mainly used for local use only. This until sounds so much better than the factory unit and it comes with the Metra connector to bypass the factory amp. I had to make the connections of the wires from the new head unit plug-in to the adapter, but once that was done, it made it plug and play. Now I can use a Flash Drive with all of my favorite tunes to listen for untold hours of enjoyment. Or I can use the Bluetooth feature to play any music from my iPhone or other music player that uses bluetooth. Then I am also able to use the Auxiliary Input and plug in a iPod, for example, and play directly to my unit. I already have a Sirius XM account and bluetooth it through my new stereo. I can also add an amplifier later if I choose, but for an around town vehicle, I probably will not. I did notice that my speakers were the next weak link. I placed an order for 4 new speakers yesterday!!! I am certainly satisfied.
Pros: Easy to install. Everything needed came with it. Easy to follow instructions. Unlimited free technical support, if needed. Pioneer Stereo quality. Priced right.
Cons: So far, I have not discovered any.

I installed my Pioneer MVH-S522BS two weeks ago. I got help from Emma to set it up. The radio worked fine, colors ok, used the phone with no problem, audio good with all speakers, clock did well. Today it will not turn on at all. This unit is DOA. (No fault of Crutchfield. I'm sure they will honor the warranty.)

LOVE THIS UNIT! This is the second Pioneer unit I bought as the first one works flawlessly and I wanted another one in my motorhome. Both of them pair quickly and start playing Pandora quickly. I primarily use this with Pandora and the Pioneer app that controls it. I love the features of the app as there are so many setting to customize the sound of the music, plus the look of the panel. The price is also really great!

I needed to upgrade the head unit in my BMW Z4 and had to get a single den. After reading all the reviews I decided on this Pioneer. It is easy to set up and really made my factory speakers sounds much better. The only thing negative I could say is the screen isn't bright at all. I have the brightness all the way to 10 and using the orange lights to match my dash it's impossible to see the screen in the sunlight. Even using the white light setting you can't see it at all with the top down. Other than that it's a great unit.
Pros: Sounds quality, easy of use and the app allows you to use nav which I like.

Nice unit. Bought this radio for my 1982 Corvette mostly because I'm able to customize the display colors. Crutchfield said it wouldn't fit. I think most Vette owners think that you need a special and pricey 1 din bezel that Corvette part houses sell. Some careful cutting with Dremel and cut off disk and the radio fits perfectly. Best to remove the instrument cluster from the bezel before you start cutting.
Pros: I like the dimmer feature when I turn on the headlights
Cons: Hate that it doesn't have a separate output for the power antenna. Seem silly for the antenna to go up when playing music through the USB.

Network mode which gives the unit the ability to turn 2 channels into highs and the 3rd and 4th channels into mids or go with the standard front and rear configuration. 13 eq settings from the HU or 31 using the Pioneer free downloadable app. Time alignment thru the app. Volume controls from 0 to 60 with NO CLIPPING at 1Khz or 40hz. Push button Navigation thru the app. USB up front. Aux cord input up front. Menu navigation is well thought out. Tons of different colors available. The only feature I wish it had was auto EQ without the use of DSP.

I was amazed at how small this head unit was. Since it has no cd option pioneer really saved space and focused on quality sound. I love this unit and I am ordering another one for my other car. I highly recommend this head unit for your car. One thing I love of it it comes with all colors to match your fav or your other dash color to match!

Really nice improvement over factory equipment. Has a few quirks and is not as intuitive as a head unit can be, but very good for the price with a lot of options.

2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser
This was a gift for my fiancé's PT Cruiser. Everything came as described. Install was a breeze with the installation info provided. She loves it and it even made the audio sound much better (even though we left the factory speakers in). Pioneer has always been my go-to for car audio gear. Quality products for sure. My Pioneer receiver on my CRV is 5 years old and is still going strong with our 115-120 degree fahrenheit summers!

This was a straight forward install. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Ordering the pre-wired harness was money well spent. Setting up the radio was as simple as following the instructions. The radio looks very nice in the dash and good, quality sound. I did have a problem with one wire and had to call the support number for advice. They were very helpful and gave me clear, simple instructions on what to do. Very happy with my new radio.

Excellent Mechless Unit

Sounds fantastic!( almost as good as a deh80prs, then again that head unit uses 3Burr-brown da converters). If you've never owned an 80prs, you wouldn't notice any differences. Having said that, I LOVE this head unit , mvhs522bs, its easy to set up, has Standard mode,& Network mode. Hooks up easily to my iPhone, easy,& understandable for the app,& app Control. That was my main reason for this purchase, being able to control the head unit via my iPhone/app. I have a newer Audi A4,& must "hide" this unit under my Driver seat. I measured this unit to have 4volts out,& no distortion at full(62) volume, all settings flat, including the eq. I also bought this from Crutchfield under "their" open box outlet. You would never know it was open box, as a matter of fact Crutchfield re-packaged this BETTER than I've received brand new, unopened before; new wire harness, new bt mic, new bag of mounting screws, etc. I'm very pleased with Crutchfield,& it arrived at my door step Wednesday at 2pm, less than 48 hours from purchase time(Mon.@4:35pm)

2004 Jeep TJ replacement

2004 Jeep Wrangler
This was a replacement for a 2004 Jeep TJ to add bluetooth hands free capability. The order included a dash kit and antenna adapter. I also ordered the Crutchfield ReadyHarness. Since there is no CD player, the dimensions were small enough that I left the security bracket from the original equipment in place. The speakers are original and include the built in amp and subwoofer in the center console (7 speaker system). The original speakers are not great, but they were in good shape with no tears in the rubber surround or cones, so they are adequate. The install was so easy, I had to double check, as I felt like I was missing something. The phone connected immediately, and a test phone call was crystal clear on both ends. Without better speakers, the system is challenged when moving, but sounds great when there is not road or wind noise. The drill down menu is simple to operate, making the setup a breeze. Buttons and knobs are well marked and easily identifiable, although I needed reading glasses to identify th not so obvious ones.
Pros: Simple install (Crutchfield ReadyHarness made it as simple as plugging the components together) Simple operation Multiple colors to match any lighting Immediate bluetooth recognition and connection
Cons: Not so much a con, as I knew what I was getting, but the back button is pretty small...and with all the audio sound settings, the large Bass button seems almost superfluous at the expense of the back button.

2001 Dodge Ram
Purchased to put in an older Dodge Ram I recently picked up. It isn't a daily driver so I wasn't worried about getting the latest and greatest Double Din touch screen offerings. The small chassis made stashing cables easy. The pre-outs will come in handy when I eventually decide to power everything off of an amp. For now the integrated amp works well enough for me. Tried out the Smart Sync app but like Pioneer's previous offerings it's not that great. The equalizer is good to have if you want to tweak the sound to how you want it. You can also adjust crossovers and timing which can come in handy if you get that in depth. Outside of that though the app is difficult to use and finicky at best. On the android side it wants to stay on constantly after you open it which is annoying. I only turn the app on if I decide I want to tweak the audio settings some more.
Pros: Simple single din head unit with plenty of options. Easy to set up with a 2001 Ram.
Cons: I wish it had a dedicated search button like older pioneer units for searching through USB folders. You have to long press the navigation button which works, just isn't as fast as it was on older units.

Replaced an 8 year old Clarion with this Pioneer unit. It has much cleaner sound over the same speakers I bought with the Clarion. I love the Bluetooth sync to my phone so I can use Spotify. The ability to adjust the radio from my phone is nice.

Nice unit for the price. Without the CD player the unit is not as deep so easier to put away the wires behind the dash. Sound was good and the bluetooth and spotify was easy to set up. One recommendation, buy the wiring package. You can not beat $25 to have Crutchfield connect the Stereo wires to the Car adapter. It made things easier and I was done in under an hour.

Easily the most feature-packed, powerful, clean sounding, head unit I've ever installed in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Also the first non-CD/cassette and my first taste of amazing Sound Sync. Get a glimpse of where car audio is going! You can spend hours dialing in Sound Sync or do like I initially did and use the factory presets. Presets at least the one I used, in the past were horrible, overly analyzed in perfect scenario environs, I was impressed at the presets providing amazingly bright sounding mobile audio! Now that I think about it with all the power and this is key "flexibility" this head unit provides you can designate which pair of RCA outs OR speakers to act as subs. I've never seen that before! The implications being that if you can't afford/don't want the complexity or don't have space Sound Sync lets you designate your back speakers as subwoofers and it's got the power to drive them. They won't slap like a 12" reverse mounted sub but..... for even a casual enthusiast? To summarize, I purchased the no-brainer Crutchfield factory install harness, face-plate adapter, connected it as wired with the very good, stock factory 180w Infinity amp and factory door and dash speakers. This deck provides plenty of affordable power @50w/channel easily powering 2/4 low low impedance 6x9s and that alone is amazing!!!! After spending an hour or so understanding the maze of features, you'll come away with an education. I am blown away. IF you feel overwhelmed just let it go
