JL Audio Stealthbox

Put it in a 2009 Tacoma. More bass than a person needs. Needed to modify the truck plastic more than the instructions said.

JL Audio Stealthbox = Amazing!

I knew I was in need of finishing off my system with a sub. I had taken my time, piece by piece and researched each component within my budget. This piece was going to throw me a little over but I decided to take a chance based upon reviews and specs that were available online. After hearing this bad boy for the first time I can assure you I was shocked. It made my $450 components sound like $900!!!! Clean sound, great punch, and more than I could have hoped for!!!! Don't let the price here keep you from completing your system. I also got the JL Audio remote sub level control, works great with my JL Audio RD 900/5. Perfect match to drive these two 10's!! Great job JL Audio and thank you Crutchfield!!!!
Pros: Great sound, high quality, perfect fit!
Cons: NONE now!!! LOL

Happy with purchase

I was looking for something that would not take up all of the space behind my back seat when I purchased this Sub and figured I would give it a shot. With this sub you still keep the whole driver side space open to store stuff unless you decide to mount an amp on that side. I liked being able to store items back there so I had the amp installed under my drivers side seat. I had it professionally installed at a local place. If you are planning on installing it yourself I do have a tip for you. The easiest way to do it is to take out the back seats so that you have room to work with. I also had them Dynamat the entire back wall and sides before it was put in. I'm running a Kenwood XR-5S 5 channel amp that pushes the Sub and my door speakers and I couldn't be happier. Its not going to win any Bass contest but for the average person that listens to all types of music from Country to Rap it will keep you happy. It will rattle your teeth if tuned right.

surpassed my high expectations

First, be reasonable with what you're expecting. If you want to rattle the teeth out of someone's head 3 cars away, nothing you could fit behind the rear seat of a double cab Tacoma will do that job. These are not JL's premium drivers. You couldn't fit a 10W7 back there WITHOUT a box. The 10W1v2 (used here) is a decent sub. I'd heard it in showrooms only before this purchase and was impressed with its low end extension for the price. But I didn't expect it to perform the same in this application. I was wrong. With a tone generator, this stealthbox rang out loud and clear down to 35hz in my truck. It hits plenty hard for a moderate bass junkie like me. I really didn't expect that chest thump feeling out of a unit this size, but it delivers. To eliminate a nasty 125hz resonant frequency in my front doors, I dailed the crossover point up to 180hz, expecting my midbass to get a little mushy - didn't happen. The sealed enclosure gives a nice, tight accurate reproduction throughout it's effective range. Installation was difficult, but sound deadening material on my back wall may have made it tighter that normal. I'd strongly recommend you remove the seats completely before you begin. I'm using the JL HD900/5 amp, and I couldn't be happier.

A let down . ..
Rob from Corpus on 7/27/2010
Well, I love my JL HD900/5 but this setup left me saying "glad I can return it". For the money and JL's name on it expected way more. I took it to a local shop to make sure I did not screw up somewhere, but they told me I had all my settings correct. I am no a huge BASSHEAD, but I do like deep bass at moderate volume and this sub left me waiting for the low end. It is great if you are looking for some bass and don't want to build your own box, but I think I will be doing my own setup with some help from bass box pro.

Though this custom sub box is a bit pricey, it was really worth it. It fit perfectly behind the seat in my truck. Also, the JLAudio subs sound great. I'd reccomend this model to anyone with a double-cab Tacoma.
