There is nothing to hold the radio in place. The opening is too small for either the radio or it's installation sleeve to fit through, and no provision to make it easy to trim. I am handy enough to deal with it, but it is supposed to be a no- brainer. The instructions were not workable at all

Makes me wish I hated music...

Absolute garbage - will not allow the dash panel to fit back on once it's mounted in the factory radio location - it sticks out way too far. There is also no provision to secure the radio aside from the sleeve, I prefer screwing into rails when possible.

2005 Vibe install of an Alpine CDE 172BT unit. Included install instructions are rather vague. Took a couple calls to Crutchfield to get it right. A tweak here and there of the metal side tabs was required to finally obtain a secure fit. Overall, it works and looks great, despite having to file down some rough edges and bend some tabs.

Does what it's supposed to do, but it makes a lot of noise and required some modification to fit correctly. The OEM plastic trim panel that is installed in front of it was cracking and didn't fit well. I had to use a rotary tool to eliminate conflicting points that were cracking the plastic. I need to uninstall the bracket from the vehicle and use an adhesive/epoxy to prevent vibration of the plastic pieces that make up the storage area. The vibration can be extremely annoying on bumpy roads.

this was included by Crutchfield has a gift for buying the radio. I did the installation on a Pontiac Vibe 2005 and the original radio was big one. but with this everything look factory made. clean and nice. This is other element that if you want to DIY project this will make it look like a Pro.

Pontiac Vibe 2003-Up

Fit is OK, instructions virtually non-existent. Right top screw hole is too small; needed to drill bigger. Had to cut 1/8" across bottom of front to allow the cars molding to fit over this kit; thank goodness I had a Dremel tool. Would have been easier to cut off before installing, if instructions mentioned this issue. If it wasn't for these two issues and lack of instructions, I would have rated 5 stars.

Instructions were very easy to follow, just match the wire colors and connect, remove the old stereo (this was the biggest pain for me), make your connections to the new stereo and put back in! Now I have a new stereo and can do hands free phone calls! Thanks, Crutchfield!

Good enough!

It was awesome that this was included in my radio purchase through Crutchfield. It does fit my car, and does what I needed it to do. The install was a little confusing as there are extra plastic pieces, presumably to work in different cars, that got in the way for my car. These easily break off with pliers, but the instructions don't mention doing this. The plastic is fairly flimsy and cheap quality, but it's sturdy enough in the dash, and holds the radio sleeve fine. Overall, it's good enough, but nothing impressive.

Great product!

This is a very basic product, but it fits well and does it's job. This is my second one of these. The first was purchased about 13 years ago when I installed a JVC deck from a previous car into my then new 04 Matrix. The first one held up great. One of the plastic tabs that holds it on broke after about 12 years, but that's a pretty good run. After that, the unit just wiggled a bit if you pushed on it. This new one will hopefully hold up just as well with my new Kenwood Excelon KDC-X700 deck. The extra shelf space is great for storing cd's or whatever you need to store under there. I personally put my iPod in there so I can bluetooth my music to my new kenwood deck! Can't really say anything bad about this product. The only possible negative is that it could have a better face appearance, but that would be nit picking.... Great product.

Too large for the dash trim opening for 2003 Matrix w/ full-size radio

Holds the radio, but sits too far forward to allow the trim piece to fit back into place. I was replacing the full-face factory unit in a 2003 Matrix. This unit fits , but the original trim won't fit back over it and sit in place. Will requires some significant cutting to get it to fit correctly. Not sure about other versions of the Matrix/Vibe, but I would consider another brand if you are trying to use it on a 2003 Matrix with a full-size factory radio.

Not the best....

This item is quite cheap in quality. It didn't come with any instructions and the Scosche site offered no help whatsoever. The stereo was loose in his mount and there was no way to decipher the purpose of the small bag of parts included with the item. I used packing material between the bay and the receiver to keep it from shaking. Disappointed....

No trim or adjustment needed for my particular install. Haven't installed a stereo in a while so I forgot that there is an insert around the faceplate area that is removable which caused some initial frustration. Simply push from the back side and it pops out. Instructions did not discuss that I noticed.

The pocket is narrow

It mounted properly and worked how it should but I didn't use it because of the storage pocket. I currently had a single DIN stereo installed with a dash kit but figured I'd replace it with a new one at the same time as I replaced the stereo. Little did I know the storage pocket was too narrow for my liking. The previously used adapter had a pocket that allowed me to reach all the way in whereas this one wouldn't allow it due to how narrow it is.

Was a little hard to install

This proved to be a little tricky to install. The component is actually two pieces screwed together, a frame, and a box like filler section. In my case, the box part came installed upside down, so I had to take it apart and reverse it.

Does the job, but not with much style

It works. Looks cheap, has a few gaps. Due to the way you secure the radio in it, it is not overly solid-feeling. Rear bottom support could have been more substantial, or had some sort of adjustable backstop that would also double to keep the radio more solidly in place when you press on the face of the radio. Directions did not mention breaking off unneeded tabs, which I had to do in order to get it into place. Also, for some reason I had a hard time getting one of the screws through the one hole.

This product works perfect with Toyota matrix. It mounted on fine and lined up with screw holes perfectly. It was a little tight trying to get the cover back on around it but it still fit in great and looks great.

Cheap Plastic but did the job

It is made of cheap plastic, but fit well in my 04 Vibe after snapping off some of the extra screw tabs. Mounting instructions could be better, but figured out to remove faceplate surround ( new unit comes with its own). Would prefer metal, hopefully it will last.

It Really Didn't Fit

My first impression of this kit is that its very very cheap quality. The small compartment under the radio has plastic tabs in it probably for strength but done badly. After 2 hours of trying to install this into my 2003 Matrix i had to quit because there is no way to use the factory brackets and this kit at the same time because they dont mesh well together so the screw holes dont line up. I tried moving the mounting screws on the radio to different holes but none of them made this kit line up properly. Ive done many other radio installs where it looked factory but this one just made me angry that i wasted my money and now have a big hole in my dash. i love Crutchfield but now i hate scosche....

Doesn't really fit very well

As others have said, cheap plastic that's not very flexible. Fit into the slot easily enough, as did the radio. But the trim bezel does not seat all the way back into its position, leaving gap. Will replace with a better holder as soon as I can find one.

A little bit of wrestling to make it work in Pontiac Vibe

This installed pretty well. Since it was included free with the radio, I'd consider it a good value. I'd prefer something made of metal like the original bracket in the car. I installed this and the first time the silvery plastic overlay that came with the card (Ponitac Vibe 2004) didn't fit properly and was about a half inch raised along the bottom edge. I didn't see any possible way for it to fit properly and left it alone for a week. It annoyed me so much I took the overlay off and reinstalled it and then it fit just fine. I see other people had the same issue so they should give it another try.

Good kit

This Scosche kit is pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the fact that it's all plastic, but it's relatively stout where it needs to be for a light weight single DIN. The installation was very smooth with no modifications being necessary and the screw holes all lined up perfectly. The only modification needed to earn 5 stars would be to add something to keep the rear of the radio from being able to lift up.

Worked great for installing a JVC unit in my 2007 Pontiac Vibe. Some mounting tabs needed to be removed to allow the head unit to fit. The only challenge in installation is being careful not to drop any screws inside the dash (particularly the lower screws). Installation is very easy, just need a socket wrench, 10mm socket, and extender.

The receiver kit was easy enough to install. Take your time. Pre-fit it. check out the extra tabs that you may have to remove to get your stock trim to fit. Make sure the attachment screw holes for the stock screws are big enough and in the right place. If not, drill them a little bigger. Hard to do, but try not to drop the screws. You can attach the screws with a little tape to the end of your screwdriver or socket with a little tape to hold them on till you get them threaded in. Once done, the receiver kit looked like a factory job. Very nice.

Simple Solution

This does what it's supposed to and holds my new radio securely into my car's dash. While it isn't the highest quality product I've ever used, it does the job and I don't foresee any problems with it. I'm glad that Crutchfield includes this since it would have been a pain, and probably cost some money, to get somethings from somewhere else instead.

I had never replaced a stereo myself before, so forgive me if I don't know the lingo- there's no hole for a bottom left screw when installing this in the 2003 Vibe, but everything else went in just fine. The real problem is that the dash cover doesn't completely close on the right side. Also, I had to cut the front face piece so that the face of the stereo could fold down for CDs

Get that bulky, dim, stuffy, featureless factory stereo out of there and get something awesome instead. This unit installs easily and is a no-brainer. As a bonus you gain a storage space underneath for an iPod, remote or whatever else.

Ugly and Cheap

First, It probably works fine, but I did not attempt to install it. My wife and I both agreed after one look at it that it looked cheap and ugly. Thankfully, my car already had one of these installed with another aftermarket stereo. It was just little things like the exterior finish and the older one had beveled edges around the opening to the storage bay. Make no mistake, the previous one is just cheap plastic as well, but it looks worlds better than this one. I threw this one away. My car is not fancy (2003 Toyota Matrix), but this thing is ugly. I'm sure its mother loves it.

I have a 2008 pontiac vibe the installation was extremely easy. I love this product. I was initially alarmed as the side tabs kept the stereo cover from sliding into place. As another reviewer stated remove the tabs prior to installation.

Super Kit

What a great and easy setup. I now have an extra compartment to hold ....? whatever. Stereo fit perfectly and the whole thing went in very easily. It feels very secure after tightening everything down and is completely flush with dash. So nice not to have a stereo that says, "Hey I'm new in here, come look at me, check me out and get me out." It really looks like the stereo came with the car, only better looking than the OEM.

Easy to install Kit

This kit was easy to install and the instructions were straight forward. Break off excess mounting tabs to allow easier access to right side bottom mounting screw. It is easy to drop the screw if you don't have a magnetized driver. When you have the kit in place save the right bottom screw for last, then place the screw in front of the hole with your left hand by going over the top of the kit that way you don't have a balancing act by going through the front. Then bring your driver through the front while holding the screw in place with your left hand.
