Wonderful open sound, long wearing comfort.
Kay from Hastings, MN on 12/29/2024
It took me ages to decide on headphones. I'm so happy I settled on these. I love them! The sound is as if you're right there with the speaker/singer. So clear and realistic with such a sense of space. In my opinion, the idea that others can hear what you're listening to, is greatly over-exaggerated. I was worried about it even as I chose this type. I generally like to listen at a higher volume, especially with certain types of music, but I don't blast my eardrums. So for a while, I asked whoever came into the room, 'could you hear what I'm listening to?' No, was always the answer. I can easily hear when my husband or grandson calls or speaks to me while I'm watching or listening to something, but there's no general intrusive noise. Comfort - these are the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned. The others have been round and made my ears sore after a while, so I was always moving them. Also the head fit was never right, either tight on top of my head, or wobbly if I extended them. The HD 600s have slightly odd shaped ear cups (over, not on, the ear) and lay on my head comfortably firm, not aggressively. As measured, I do have a larger head for a woman. The only thing resembling a complaint ? - if the cord that comes with it was at least 2' longer, I could sit in my favorite spot for listening, with a little slack. Luckily, I have a 12' audio extension cord I had made for me years ago. But as far as sound and fit, perfectly happy !

Not just another pair of headphones.
Lonny S from Brandon MS on 12/7/2023
I took a star off for the clamping pressure and difficulty removing the detachable cables(hopefully this gets resolved). Other than that, these headphones will give you more bang for your buck than possibly anything else out there. As for bass, they have plenty if you reach for it with a bass boost, on their own there's some but not loads. As for treble, these offer extreme clarity without help. Probably the most of all the HD series. As for midrange, there's plenty of that too without help. These might not need a headphone amplifier as desperately as some of the others in the series, but make no mistake. They are 300 ohm and they do need a headphone amplifier if you're going to hear them at above moderate volumes. Their detail comes out completely with a headphone amplifier. If they seem too bright or not having enough bass, just EQ them. I prefer their sound as is just with the bass extended. They aren't built like a tank but I've never heard a complaint about their reliability and assume these headphones will last a very long time. Since everything is replaceable and can be upgraded they might last forever if you prefer. Anybody saying these sound cheap is positively lying, they sound more expensive than they are.
Pros: sound quality, volume potential
Cons: clamping force and detachable cables resisting being removed

Observations and Comparison to HD 660S
Damon from Houston, TX on 10/10/2023
Some observations and comparisons to the HD 660S. As everyone knows, the HD 600 has excellent mids and treble, but is a bit thin sounding in the bass. The 660S also has excellent mids, but slightly less prominent treble. The 600 sounds brighter in comparison, but the treble is maybe smoother in the 660S? The 660S has a stronger bass and warmer sound overall. Both have good imaging, but the 660S has a somewhat wider soundstage and details are easier to pick out. Without equalization I'd pick the HD 600 because I'm picky about the highs. With about +1.5 dB bump up in the treble, the 660S sounds better overall to me due to its warmer bass and better soundstage. I think I could be happy with either one, with a slight lean toward the 660S.
Pros: Great mids and treble Very comfortable
Cons: Narrow soundstage

Headphones and speakers are a pretty difficult thing to review, we all have expectations to be met. Waiting a bit to write the review wanted to test them first. Took a week to break them down. In the beginning they were tight but now don't even feel that I'm wearing them. These headphones are not only incredibly comfortable and lightweight, the sound quality is also absolutely amazing. Combine it with a good headphone amplifier and you've got a pair of headphones that you will never need to replace. I like the fact that they are not noise cancelling headphones because I'm using them sometimes when I'm doing DJ and having party at home.

HD Senn 600 are good
Glenn from Elkton, MD on 9/17/2023
The Sennheiser HD 600 and all the 600 series models are good headphones. If you like natural-sounding music played on a suitable audio device, you will hear everything well with the HD 600. I would recommend them. These are not bass-heavy. The bass is there with realistic sound. The way you would hear it in a live concert.
Pros: Sound great

For many years, I have always had the mindset that good audio required an amp and traditional speakers. I finally decided to bite the bullet and enter the headphone world by ordering these cans and a Pro-Ject Head Box S2 Digital. To say I was completely blown away is an understatement! I have never heard my CDs sound so "open" and full of dimension before! They sounded "amazing" through my speakers, but listening on this headphone elevates the sound to a whole new world! When I put in one of my Live recordings, I felt like I was actually there! I could hear the slight WIND blowing through the stage, the sounds from the most distant part of the audience, etc. The accuracy and quality of the sound that these beasts can produce is second to none, and I can clearly see why these have been in production for as long as they have. If you're serious about sound quality, an open and natural soundstage, these are the 'phones for you! This is the BEST single investment in my home listening setup I have made to date! In the future, I will probably try out one of their more premium headphones like the HD 820.
Pros: Incredible sound quality, lightweight, comfortable, detachable cord

I got back my music listening experience !
Narayanan from Katy, TX on 10/9/2022
It is very tight for my head. Expecting to get it loosened up with time. I really loved listening to music with this. By far a much better listening than my Bose QC35. I feel like I got back the real music listening experience that I lost in last 10 years or so. Some of the credit definitely goes to the DragonFly Cobalt that Crutchfield suggested me to go with it. Whoever is new to open back headphones, keep in mind that it needs a not too loud environment to enjoy it. And also others can listen to what you are listening to.
Pros: Clean pure sound
Cons: Too tight but should get eased out over time

HD 600 is worth it.
Victor from Alhambra, CA on 9/23/2022
These HD 600 headphones live up to the hype of great sound and comfort. I use these on my Valhalla 2 amp connected with a vintage Sony CD player and can get lost in time listening to so much music. I could have purchased them anywhere but I trust Crutchfield to deliver on service and quality. I would recommend these headphones as well as Crutchfield to anyone looking for quality.
Pros: Comfort, sound and reputation.
Cons: None so far.

Worth it
Speakerman from Right behind you on 9/16/2022
From a casual listener's perspective -- The HD600 is noticeably better, cleaner, and has more balanced sound and flatter frequency response than the HD280 and HD380, which I also have and enjoy. This does allow some sound to escape from the open design, but it's not much at reasonable volume. For reference, all of the above are easily driven by the 1/4" headphone jack on a Yamaha A-S801 at good volume without issues.

These are extremely comfortable and the sound outpaces the price all day long. I use them almost exclusively plugged into my desktop computer without a headphone amplifier and they serve very well. Plugged into my stereo they sound extremely good and provide excellent comfort and listening pleasure without breaking the bank.
Pros: Comfort, great sound, excellent brand name.
Cons: None so far.

A True Reference Headphone
Josh from Binghamton, NY on 10/9/2016
You won't find a headphone more discussed than the Sennheiser HD 6xx line over the last 20 years, and for good reason. They are easily the best headphones at their price point. Sound quality is unbelievable. Bass is tight and accurate but it does lose punch when extending into the sub-bass. The mids are what I would consider perfect. Vocals are second to none: lush, clear, and natural. It's the kind of perfect that has me going through my entire library to listen to how vocals should sound. Treble has good energy and does not fatigue. It gives a great sense of airiness and clarity. Imaging is just about perfect: every sound is perfectly placed and places you in the center of a bubble of sound. I can't help but smile when I listen to amazing production by the likes of Quincy Jones for MJ, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and many others. Soundstage is not the biggest/widest, but because the imaging is so good, it's honestly hard to care. Looks are subjective, but I think the marble finish is beyond cool as it just screams 90's, reminding me of how long these have been around. Build is mostly plastic with a CFRP headband (which can break if stretched too hard) and metal grilles. These clamp pretty tight out of the box, but loosen nicely with use and become very comfortable with the help of the large, oval velour pads and the soft headband foam. Being open headphones, don't expect any noise reduction. I cannot recommend this headphone highly enough. I also cannot take them o
Pros: Sound quality, looks, comfort once broken in
Cons: Absolutely none

Excellent sound, comfortable. The only downside is a cable that needs to be replaced every few years. My first HD600 I got about 10 years ago, and they have performed flawlessly. This is a second pair for work.
Pros: Great sound. Comfortable.
Cons: Mediocre cable (just needs replacing every few years for about $20).

Still One of the Best
G Williams from Georgia on 8/11/2015
These headphones still are some of the best ever made. Most limitations are due to hearing acuity rather than HD600 performance. I have multiple sets of headphones including the HD 800's. The HD 600's are my favorite and most used. Like the familiarity of a well worn set of blue jeans, this my second pair of HD 600's just set the norm for my concept of comfort in tne sound of good music.
Pros: Produces the sounds of all genres of music as recorded. You hear what was intended to be heard.
Cons: Headband could have be in different colors and patterns.

Underrated
Steven S from New York, NY on 10/9/2013
These headphones really are underrated. For some reason, they have relegated to a "stepchild" position for most people ever since the HD650s came out. Don't think that just because the HD650 is a higher model number than HD600 that the HD650 must be better. I had both the HD650 and the HD600 at the same time, and I prefer the sound of the HD600s (returned the HD650s). The HD650s do have a tiny bit of a veil, and they are quite laid back, even with very good equipment. To me the HD600s are just right. There is no veil, and there is just a bit more treble and speed. A lot of people say the HD650s have more bass, but I disagree. If there is bass in the music, the HD600s will produce it accurately. By no means are the HD600s headphones for true bass heads, but if you want headphones that accurately portray the level of bass that is in the music, the HD600s are for you. These are pretty easy to drive and will work well out of the headphone jack of a receiver, but do yourself a favor and get a decent headphone amp. Sennheisers LOVE tube amps, so my advice is to get a good OTL tube amp. My personal choice is the Woo Audio WA3. This amp paired with the HD600s is magic, and the amp is only a bit more than the HD600s in cost.
Pros: --Accurate--not tipped on the high or low end--just right --I find them very comfortable--the most comfortable cans I've used --Sound better than the HD650s but cost $100 less --Most parts can easily be replaced, which means your investment will last longer --The cable is fully detachable from the cups so you can easily change the cable if you want to
Cons: --The materials feel just a tad cheap, but the cans are not delicate --They are definitely open cans, so everyone around you can hear your music almost as well as you can --The stock cable is not good; get a Sennheiser replacement cable for the HD650s (they fit these and sound better than the stock HD600 cable)

Can't See Getting Much Better
UncleGreg from San Jose, CA on 8/25/2013
Let me just say that these head-phones can handle it all! I listen to alot of music. Try Steve Khan-Public Access. This is my TEST CD! People that listen on these head-phones, well, pretty much have made the right choice. I have a McIntosh MHT200, it works very well with these head-phones. It will pick out the older recordings, because the Amp has it, the head-phones have it. But, this will tell you how good the recording really is. Thanks for reading, GREG
Pros: Looks and Sound.
Cons: Had to replace the cord that connects to the amp and the bottom of the speakers. The replacements are better. Sorry to say, do not know the brand. GREG

Precisely clear and detailed headphones with an excellent look!
Bobby D from Canton, MI on 3/3/2013
I cannot believe I am the first person to write a review for these amazing headphones here on Crutchfield. These headphones replaced my Shure SRH-840 as my primary headphones. Build Quality, Appearance and Comfort: If you're like me and cosmetics have some value, then these headphones will please your eye. The granite-like marble finish of the headband is made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. They feel extremely sturdy while maintaining a very light weight. The velour pads are extremely comfortable and the cups are deep, my ears have plenty of "breathing room". The headband extender is also very strong and requires some force to adjust, this is good because it will never lose it's position. Sound Quality: Being 300 Ohms they are absolutely stellar when amplified, still very good from PC/smart phone (clarity is there, but lacking detail). Hooked up to my Valhalla tube amp and Modi DAC, these cans absolutely sing. From Rock to Rap to Classical to Dubstep, these headphones produce details I've never heard before in my music. Since these beauties are open-back you will be able to hear a pin drop, sometimes I forget I'm wearing them if music is not playing. They leak lots of sound, so make sure nobody around you will mind the music they will most definitely be forced to hear. But because of this, the sound stage is very wide and open. The lows are smooth, the mid's are stunning, and the highs are angelic. I can't say enough about this 15 year old contender. It's a winner!!
Pros: Extremely detailed clarity across the spectrum, neutral tone and no over-exaggeration in the sound stage. Very comfortable, sturdy, and lightweight. They look awesome and are definitely an eye catcher. Considering the cost of some other headphones, these are an absolute steal. Perfect, in my humble opinion.
Cons: None. Except that you may dislike some recording quality of your music, not a fault of the headphone.....
