Impressive power
Kenneth from Bisbee, AZ on 4/23/2025
I enjoy the sony receiver except for the lack of extended tone controls. What ever happened to an actual equalizer .. not limited to bass and treble? I added an external equalizer and was amazed by the added clarity of sound and power provided by the sony receiver.
Pros: Power output and HDMI options
Cons: No multiband equalizer...limited to bass and treble only. Presets suck

Great Sounding, No Frills, Entry Intro To Atmos
Brian from Louisa, VA on 3/30/2025
Great sounding home theater receiver. Using it with in wall and ceiling Polk speakers for a 5.2.2 Atmos setup in my living room. It replaced a midrange Onkyo RZ that recently bit the dust. The reason I dropped one start from the review is two fold: 1. The press button speakers connections are a bit too small for higher gauge speaker wire. I had to use 14 gauge for my fronts and center due to length and it barely fits. 2. The on screen setup menus are as simple as you can get. BUT the value represented at this price point can't be beat. Great sound, good power, Atmos. Yes, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive receivers but if you have a sub $400 budget and you need Atmos, this is the receiver to get.
Pros: Great sound, Atmos, sharp looks
Cons: Speaker poles small, simplistic menu system

Value personified, audio quality is very good, compared to the 12 year old Yamaha XV it replaced is night and day. Have it connected bi-amp. Plenty of power to drive my dual woofer infinity. So clean.
Pros: Sound quality, Bluetooth audio fidelity is weepingly good. Connects to your phone via WiFi very reliably . Hasn't missed once.
Cons: Bravia integration isn't the best,

Perfect Combination - Performance and Simplicity
Brian from Poulsbo, WA on 2/25/2025
This is an excellent AV Receiver. It replaces my Sony STR-DN1040 which was 10 years old. The setup was really easy and the sound quality is excellent. I do miss the more elegant onscreen menu that was on my previous receiver and the ability to play a USB drive. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier.
Pros: Easy to set up Compact size Controls are simple and intuitive Dolby Atmos is incredible Auto calibration was a breeze
Cons: No USB connectivity Home screen is pretty basic - could use some nicer graphics

Great amp at a great price
Aaron from Silver Spring, MD on 1/8/2025
I got this amp on sale, when it was a great price. It replaced a 20-year-old Yamaha amplifier with DVD player that couldn't get 5.1 sound from our Roku streaming device. Wow, I'm so impressed at this Sony unit. I'm using it with a Bose Acoustimass 6 iii surround speaker system, which is probably not the best. My initial plan was to get this amplifier, and then gradually replace the speakers as I get more money. Yet, the sound is so good now that I'm not sure I'll need to. This is mostly used for movies, not for music. The surround sound is crystal clear and distinct. Instruments pop out like they never did before. Dialog through the center channel is clear. Even at low volumes, the system must be adjusting the bass to give a very full sound, which is really great in our house to not bother the rest of the family. Setup was really easy -- the included mic helped to get the calibration done in about 30 seconds. It says the subwoofer is 13' away, which is further than in reality, so I may need to change that. Control is really easy. The included remote feels cheap but is serviceable and has easy buttons to get to things like Night Mode, etc. The Sony unit turns on automatically with the TV and the TV remote will adjust the Sony volume (even though I don't have a Sony TV), so that is super convenient for the family which doesn't want to bother with another remote. All in all, I'm super happy. Even my family members have commented on the improved so

Good but not great
Phil from Helena, MT on 1/6/2025
It offers many different sound setups, and covers everything from 7.1 down to stereo. I can't give it a 5 star, though, as it has both more options than my prior Sony Receiver that finally gave up on me after 30 years, but also LESS sound modifications and hookups compared to the old Sony. But so far, this new one is working well and providing us with good sound on our movies again.

I bought this to replace my Sony STR-D865. I use it for my backyard theater. The DH790 sound quality is not as good as the D865. The DH790 sounds "tinny" even though I have the bass boosted to maximum . The "equalizer" lets you boost the bass and treble but there is not enough control over the other frequencies which may account for the tin sound. The sound adjustments work best when connected to a monitor so you can see what you are doing. Adjusting the sound settings on the fly while watching a movie are bit more difficult. The DH 790 does not like my Sony 8 ohm speakers and heats up quickly. The sound fields choices on the DH 790 are not as good and do not sound as good as the D865. I'm going to connect some Yamaha NS AW 390 outdoor speakers rated at 6 ohms to see if the heat output drops and/or the sound quality improves. I used to be a Sony fan but now not so much.
Pros:
Cons: Sound quality, high heat output, "equalizer" is almost useless

Great Receiver
Jeffrey from NEW CASTLE, PA on 6/24/2024
This review is being written after having the STR-DH790 since December 2019. The power of this receiver packs a solid punch whether watching broadcast TV content, streaming movies or tv shows or listening to music. It is powering a 7.2 channel speaker setup. This receiver has plenty of features that are everything I need. The equalizer setting adjustments in the Sound Effect section and the speaker output level adjustments in the Speaker Setting section enables me to get the best sound from my speakers. I purchased this receiver at a sale price of $198 and it is a great bargain at that price. I have had older receivers by Kenwood, Onkyo and Yamaha but the Sony STR-DH790 easily outperforms them all in terms of power performance and cleaner signal path as well as general functionality.

Constant issues, might be fine for "dumb" devices
Ehren from Boston, MA on 5/15/2024
I got this receiver when I upgraded my home theater to a 4K TV. Kept this pretty simple, since I live in an apartment: TV, this receiver, stereo speakers, blu-ray player, Playstation 5. Setup was OK, if a little finnicky. Setting ports to enhanced was not intuitive, and the menu is mostly accessed on the small screen of the receiver itself (my previous Sony receiver had a menu on-screen, which is, shockingly, way better). With enhanced mode on, the videos were just fine, everything seemed OK. Then I tried the Playstation, and everything got worse (remember to play with the unintuitive settings to get it to work kind of right, by the way). The receiver now powers itself back on after everything else is turned off - I'll shut down the system, and the receiver will turn on after 15 minutes of nothing - no signals, it just powers back on. I tried a CEC-less adapter for the PS5, and that doesn't do anything. The receiver also just makes noises from time to time, like it's going to turn on - and it doesn't. It also just stopped all audio output once. I had to call Sony support and troubleshoot for a couple hours with them to get it working. I think we had to reset it a couple times. It was a mess. I think this is fine if your system is "dumb" - no CEC devices or anything. If you do, you may run into issues. I really can't recommend this to anyone. I'm likely stuck with mine until I e-waste it - don't get stuck with one, yourself.
Pros: It works sometimes.
Cons: Phantom CEC signals - turns itself back on while everything's been off for a while. Audio failed once. Not reliable.

This IS the receiver I've been looking for.
Keenan from CHESTER, VA on 2/22/2024
My old pioneer was not able to accurately decode and reproduce audio sources recorded in newer formats like ATMOS and DTSX. I tried another name brand replacement from a different vendor which I won't get into specific names, but it was glitchy and wouldn't play nice with my other devices. I also found myself constantly trying to tweak center and sub channels to get balanced audio. Well I got fed up and ended up returning that receiver, and going with this Sony. Couldn't be happier! One easy setup, and I now have a balanced audio on all formats across all devices. No fatiguing center channel or clanging sub. I have yet to make any adjustments beyond what the microphone calibration made on the initial setup. My only complaint was that the push spring speaker connections are a little wimpy for a 7 channel receiver. I had to smash my wires in and hope for the best. The look and feel of the Sony is not as high end as my old system, but sound performance has exceeded my expectations.
Pros: Great sound right out the box
Cons: Has a cheap feel

I've had this receiver for about 5 years. It is a fantastic budget AVR. For years it was the anchor of my home theater setup, and I currently use it to drive a set of bookshelf speakers in my bedroom. I've upgraded my home theater with a different AVR that is "better" in several ways, but that AVR also cost a lot more. The beauty of the DH790 is it's value. It hits that sweet spot of solid performance at a more approachable price point. If you are building a home theater (or even stereo listening setup) and you don't want to spend a ton, definitely give the DH790 consideration. One feature that I used often is the "Pure Direct" mode. This setting sends the input audio signal more directly to the amplifier section (minimizes processing) and outputs sound only to the front left and right, and subwoofer if you have one connected. With a push of a button, it allows you to switch between a home theater setup (all 7 channels engaged) to stereo listening. It is very convenient. Now that I use this solely for music, I just keep it in Pure Direct mode. Last, I also own the 5-channel version of this (the DH590) and have the same praise for that.

Carlos from San Juan, PR on 8/22/2023
Only the main front and back speakers has a strong banana type connector. The others, are simply too weak and low quality for the wiring to hold. Please, notice this fault issue in the design of the receiver. The Sony STR-Dh750 is a very good and excellent receiver. The setup was simple and since I like All Channel Stereo, no sweat..! It provided a nice sound reproduction through my seven speakers. The only deception with the Sony's, is the speaker wire connectors in the back. I also want to recognice the appreciated support from the Crutchfield people, as always..!
Pros: Excellent sound reproduction.!
Cons: Change the wire connectors in the back to a stronger one..!

Purchased from the outlet as a scratch & dent. When delivered, the box was in terrible shape, not so much from UPS, but the original packaging was used again. Unpacked the unit, had all accessories and set up guide. The unit it self had some minor defects, especially on the screen. Set up was easy & quick. Connected to Bluetooth and boom - incredible sound. Couldn't be happier. My use is a little different. I have a large dock on a lake, and use the receiver to listen to music via Bluetooth device & the radio. Plenty of power to drive the speakers and sub. Rich, balanced sound in an outdoor environment. This replaced an Onkyo. You simply can't go wrong with a Sony product.
Pros: Ease of setup, power, value

Beat value Atmos Receiver on the market
Robert from Asheboro on 5/14/2023
I am at a loss trying to find major issues with this receiver. I've been using it for about a month now and compared it to reviews that others have written to see if I share their sentiment, and there's honestly only two faults in this receiver that I tend to agree with. 1. The speakers aren't banana plug terminals for all of its speaker posts. I wish they were. I do believe the connection is superior based on previous setups. It's also easier to hookup. I just can't justify spending the extra money to get the upgrade. 2. I wish it had the SCenter speaker feature that works with some Sony televisions to be the center speaker, but that's just because it's very difficult to place a center speaker in my personal setup. However, I'm making it work, and it's another feature I couldn't justify shelling out the extra cash to have. The loudest criticisms for this receiver are the lack of built-in wifi and streaming apps/Chromecast. I just don't find that to be an issue. I can stream any audio I want via Bluetooth using any device in my possession, and I'm good with not having built-in streaming apps because they eventually become obsolete and require an upgrade. The only other criticism I will mention is the lack of inputs for other audio specific components (like cassette decks or record players). Even if they were generic "audio1" and "audio2", that would have been sufficient. This receiver seems to be the answer to avoiding obsolescence u
Pros: Easy Setup Atmos and DTS-X eARC compatibility (with firmware update) Lack of Features that cause forced obsolescence Sounds great!
Cons: Lack of banana plug speaker bindings No SCenter Speaker Feature

I've had my best luck with Sony products, so why not? Setup was easy. Wonderful picture on my aging Sony plasma. The TV is a long way away from the receiver and the receiver handles the HDMI to CAT6E and back converters very well. Also, uses my old Bose Acoustimass 10 speaker system to it's fullest and best advantage. I've been to the theatre twice lately and I swear my setup sounds and looks better. A lot of bang for the buck in this thing. Remote is the best, though I normally use the Directv one.

Not the best music amp
Ron from ATHENS, AL on 10/25/2022
Bought this to replace an older Yamaha 5.1 AV reciever that is having HDMI video problems. I had the old recievet set up in a dedicated media room and was happy with the audio. I have Definative Technology 9060 fronts and a DefTec 9040 center with some old Energy Take 5 rear speakers. I used the beautifully mixed Eagles Hotel California 5.1 DVD audio disk to get my room tuned in with the Yamaha, and had listened to this album many times in the last few days. I swapped in the Sony DH790, did the room calibrarion, made a few tweaks and played the album. I thought that i was going crazy... the magnificent sound stage and richness of the Yamaha was gone. I could no longer pick out the locations of the instruments and Henley's voice was flat (seemed to be in mono) and the drum cymbals were much flatter than I had remembered. Was I remembering things wrong? After ensuring everything was set up correctly, i decided to swap the Yamaha back... with the exact same configuration. The beautiful immersive magic was back! I'm sending the Sony back for a refund and am just going to work aeound the video issue and keep the Yamaha. I dont recommend this unit for a music-centered, application.

Hidden Gem in a Limited Field

My Yamaha RXV-675 recently bit the bullet after years of good service. The timing for it's passing was not the right time to look for a replacement on the market . Went and ordered another make that was available only to get a notice 2 days after it was suppose to arrive that the delivery date was unknown from the shipper. I then went on another hunting trip to find a replacement. I actually stumbled upon this Sony STR-DH790 by accident as I was looking for something else with more options. There were 7 units available for sale and by the time I had completed the purchase there were none. This unit is the most simple and easiest A/V Receiver that I have ever owned. The sound levels are solid and the tone levels along with the easy setup make this unit a Top Shelf Winner. The unit has a E-Arc HDMI along with a optical input to give the user the ability to get the user's desired sound effect from the source the user selects. You can't go wrong with the Sony STR-DH790. This unit gives the user the best bang for the buck!
Pros: 7:2 unit setup that can also be used as a 5.2 setup if the user wants to set it up that way. Small size and it does not throw off much heat. The unit is slightly warm when it is in use.
Cons: No secondary room feature. The shortage of foreign chips has reduce the buyers purchase options.

It probably would have been 5 stars until I was setting up the FM Tuner. I went to attach my rooftop TV/FM antenna to find it doesn't have either a dipole or coax connection. It has a funky little single aerial antenna that plugs in???? I stopped and figured there has to be a go-around nobody would include a tuner without the ability to hook it to an antenna? Wrong! I contacted Sony and was given this ludicrous answer. They decided to not include a antenna because they could keep the price down... most people only use the bluetooth and digital music? So a single aerial was enough. What the....??? I then told them this unit was going to be used in a suburban/rural location, not in a city and we can't receive good reception without the rooftop antenna they replied most people find the FM antenna supplied finds plenty of enough stations??? I used to think Sony was one of the savviest manufacturers? Not sure anymore. If they really wanted to keep the cost down and their idea that most people use digital music rather then FM, discontinue the FM Tuner. You could probably knock off another $50-$100. I have other Sony receivers in other places and the FM tuner always had one or the other connections. For a lower end but well equipped machine it went from a highly recommended to an * asterisk. 5 stars if you don't care about the FM. 1 - if you do!

Easy to set up and use. The sound is at least 50% better than my old Pioneer unit. An excellent way to use the great sound from the newest 4K televisions. In my opinion, superior to any sound bar, and quite enveloping, particularly for 4k blurays. Paired with my KEF speakers and my incredible KLIPSCH subwoofer, we have theater sound like never before.

Sony replaces Denon...
Crutchfield customer from Murray, KY on 9/30/2020
I really like it! I have a older sony receiver(similar to this new one) that I've had for several years and it has worked flawlessly. I'm getting rid of the Denon I've had since before I got the first sony that's still working like a charm! The fancy Denon failed the first time under warrenty. Power supply I think. I sent it back for repair ( A pain you know where!}. It was fixed and worked fine for a while then started acting up again. I replaced it with the second Sony and am getting rid of the Denon if I come across someone who wants to fix it. My next receiver will be a Sony!
Pros: I'm convinced Sony is a better product.
Cons: Denon is nice when it works!

Average receiver
Crutchfield customer from Silver Spring, MD on 8/14/2020
I give a 3 star so far because it is not a friendly set up. For example AMP set up is not on the TV menu to be seen. You have to pay attention of the tiny screen on the receiver to see the changes. Also I did not realized it does not have a connection for Turntable.
Pros: It is a light Receiver does not provide all the features but It is OK.
Cons: Should be friendlier on the set up side. Not a lot of choices when to set to listening mode compare to the Onkyo that I had.

Excellent sound, easy setup
Crutchfield customer from Chesapeake, VA on 8/13/2020
Easy to setup, great sound but settings and options are limited through the home screen, is hard to find for instance how to verify if it is reproducing sound in Atmos. For other options you need to use the front panel for more settings, other than that you get what you would expect from Sony, great quality. I wish it had the graphical user interface of the other Sony STR-DN 1080
Pros: Superb sound Quick setup Bluetooth
Cons: Home screen for settings is very limited, need front panel to configure

Fantastic receiver at the price point
Matthew from DECATUR, MI on 6/11/2020
Easy setup and the mic calibration worked really well. I got this receiver due to its price point and feature list. It was the only 7.1 or 5.1.2 that was sub $450. It currently powers my 3.1 setup that will grow eventually. I think its the perfect receiver for an entry level system. The only thing that would make it better is if it had just one more HDMI port, I have a lot of game systems and computer hooked up to it and need one more input for a SNES Classic.
Pros: Setup was easy Mic calibration worked well Fits in my console well with room to breathe
Cons: only 4 HDMI ports Changing the speaker setup from 2.1 to 3.1 wasn't where I thought it was in the options and took a bit to find

New Sony Stereo
Crutchfield customer from Norwalk, IA on 6/4/2020
Jury still out maybe it's a setting or something I will turn it on one time and go to use the FM radio and it will display on the TV then the next time it will not display on the TV maybe it certain settings when it shuts off. Then one time shut the TV off and it will shut the stereo off and the next time it won't. I miss my old Stereo my Sony STR902p that failed. Had it for almost 15 years. The New Sony sounds pretty good with my old Sony speakers need to add another powered sub and it will sound really good. And I have never seen a stereo with no AM band radio on it. That's Weird.
Pros: Easy setup with the calibration mic.
Cons: Does something different every time I turn it on.

Great unit and a great price
Crutchfield customer from Des Plaines, IL on 5/18/2020
This does not have all the bells and whistles of other receivers but is exactly what I needed. It offers surround sound, but all I needed was 4 speakers in my den/kitchen area and another pair in my living room. With stereo and multi-stereo speaker options I was ale to setup any combination of sound availability I needed. Works pretty much out of box. Was a bit concerned at low price, but so far so good. It runs a lot cooler than the Onkyo it replaced. It is also compact so had no trouble fitting into my entertainment cabinet.
Pros: runs cool. Easy setup. Enough options. Can handle 2 zones (rooms) Great price.

Pros: Very easy to setup with the TV ARC screen menu's and very forgiving to reset to factory defaults and then change or add speaker settings.
Cons: I have a small dedicated fan next to the transformer side vents that also pushes air over the top of the receiver, it's not a big deal since other brands also require an external fan.

Instruction manual in the box was pretty useless, but the one online is good. Overall this is a great receiver at an even better price. The auto-calibrate feature was pretty slick. Figuring out the pass through function required digging out the online manual, and I'm not exactly thrilled about the way the menu on the unit operates, but all of that is really a one time inconvenience. Crutchfield was awesome as always.
Pros: auto-calibration, excellent sound, great price

Good Sound, Lackluster Audio Interface Controls
Crutchfield customer from BOISE, ID on 12/9/2019
I've had Sony audio electronics since the first Walkman came out. I really wanted to like this receiver more than this. I bought this to replace a late 80's vintage component system, one by one the components were failing and it was time for a replacement. I typically listen to music 90% of the time I use this receiver, movies the other 10% of the time. My setup does not use all 7 Channels, I have a pair of 1984 Bose 601 Series II front speakers, Klipsch Reference R-51M for the rear channel speakers, and a Klipsch R-10SW Powered Subwoofer. The Automatic setup with the microphone included didn't work, no matter how many times I tried or moved speakers or the microphone around (following the instructions as closely as I could for my room). That left me with manually adjusting the sound for best sound quality, the menu system is not easy/intuitive to navigate, I really wish Sony had an App compatible with this receiver, something with a graphic EQ and some level indicators would be nice. After several hours of adjusting it sounded good and I was able to switch back and forth between sources without much issue. But anytime the power goes out the unit resets to defaults and I have to start all over again. On a side note, mine came with a manufacturers sticker on the front of it, when I peeled the sticker off it left a residue that discolored the face of the unit like the glue was made out of some sort of solvent. (yes I tried cleaning it, nothing worked)
Pros: Good Power and sound
Cons: Manual adjustment of audio signal is horribly complicated and cumbersome.

Overall, satisfied with the receiver
Crutchfield customer from Elizabethtown, IL on 11/24/2019
For the price of this AV receiver I can't complain much, only found 2 issues so far, one is the two sets of HDMI and RCA inputs that are labeled the same, you can only use one or the other so this cut you down to 6 inputs instead of 8, the other issue is a noticable click thru speakers as you raise or lower volume, even during play but all in all a decent receiver, especially for the price
Pros: Price and ease of setup
Cons: Nothing major so far but if I want to grow my setup later, will probably have to upgrade

Easy setup, if you read the manual.
Crutchfield customer from Powhatan, VA on 10/15/2019
I only buy a stereo every 15 years or so, so I'm no pro and I'm always way behind on new functions. I use two front speakers and a subwoofer and (for now) don't have a surround setup. bought this so I could have integrated bluetooth and eventually expand to surround. Bluetooth setup was super easy. I had to go back and check the manual to figure out how to set up the second set of front speakers, and had to play for a while to get through the menus correctly so my sub would play with that configuration- but both of those are my fault for being a dinosaur.
Pros: flexible, easy bluetooth setup, sound is better than my ears are
Cons: Setup for non-surround configurations is not intuitive, but it's in there once you get to the right part of the manual.

very good sounding receiver.my home theater sounds so much better with my klipsch inwalls than the pioneer elite it replaced.paired with the sony x800m2 4k player sounds amazing.only wish sony packaged their items better.very little foam around receiver.slight dent in top left corner from shipping slight crease in box when arrived.still seems to work fine.but i am very fussy so it bothers me a bit.it does sound fantastic when playing movies;so much better than my pioneer!i can actually here them talk now without the effects being overbearing.i have had sonys in the past and they where always good.i should have never strayed from them!going to get an x900 or x950 65" 4k tv soon too,to replace my older lg 4k tv need dolby vision support.
Pros: sound reproduction especially with movies.simple to use.more than adequate power.

Primarily bought this because I wanted a 4K pass through receiver for my 4K TV. It replaced a STR-DH740 over 5 years old. I finally gave up my Sony 3D TV for a Sony 4K TV. The 2 receivers are almost identical. I upgraded my HDMI cables for high speed ones >18 Gbps. I also bought a Sony UPB-X700 4K DVD Player to use with this receiver and a Directv Genie DVR. Nice change from 5.1 surround
Jackpine from Central Lake, MI on 1/10/2019
Was looking to upgrade my Sony 550 (an excellent receiver) used in a 5.1 setup to take advantage of the Atmos encoding in some Blu-rays and my 4k disc collection. Was on the fence whether to get the DN1080 or the DH790, but when the 790 went on sale I couldn't resist and pulled the trigger. I don't have the best layout for placing speakers due to the size and shape of the living room and eventually decided on front height speakers as that seemed the best option in my case. So far i am totally pleased to say the least. The front heights seem to do a good job of placing sounds where they belong. I haven't played much (yet) with Dolby Surround or Neural-X, but will give those a try later on.
Pros: Fairly easy setup (coming from the Sony 550 helped) Height effects sound great.
Cons: Spring terminals for surrounds, but I knew that going in. Sets all speakers to large just like the 550. Oh well LOL

Great bang-for-the-buck receiver
John from Portage, MI on 1/2/2019
So far I am really loving this receiver. Talk about bang for your buck. Actually the next level receivers cost $200-300 more and all you really get is 2nd room audia, a little more power and wifi pandora support, which is really not necessary with bluetooth anyway. Nothing else even close to having all these features for the price. Pretty easy setup. On-screen setup is fairly intuitive. Did have a bit of a time getting it to ignore the hdmi and use spdif/optical. User manual was absolutely no help. Turns out it is buried within the settings on the remote A-??? button. You have to disable hdmi control. Also would be nice if it had a few more sound fields to choose from in dolby/non-dolby modes and could use more info on screen of receiver as to what sound field it is using, but in my opinion, minor gripes. Amp sounds great and has plenty of punch. 90x7 at 8 ohm/145x7 at 6 ohm for those who were confused. Manual is a bit confusing because as someone mentioned, the main manual is only in fra/spa but there is a very thin separate English manual buried in the box as well. Found it for $20 cheaper elsewhere but the AMAZING Crutchfield priced matched it. Thanks.
Pros: Very punchy, sounds great! Feature rich! Price!
Cons: A few more (digital) sound fields to choose from and could use more info on screen of receiver as to what sound field it is using . Crappy Manual.

Cons: None at all.

Great for the $ but info need clarity

I'm not disappointed but also not 100% loving it. What I got for the price is very acceptable and works well as a home theater receiver. What I wasn't totally thrilled about was the fact that each place I looked gave me different power ratings. Some saying 145x7 and others saying 90 watts per channel at 6 ohms. What's the actual answer? What is the wattage at 8 ohms? Anyway, I love the low profile size. Some receivers are so damn tall! The fact that I got a setup mic, atmos audio, dual sub output and a lot of options to adjust each speaker groups volume and crossover is pretty awesome for a sub $500 model. Lastly, I was a bit bent that Crutchfield was advertising 2 day shipping for items over $xx.xx but I didn't get it for 5 days. After going back on the site I saw that there all sorts of exceptions to the two day shipping.
Pros: Price, options, fine tuning, dual sub outputs
Cons: Conflicting watts ratings

Good sound & picture
Owner from Santa Fe, NM on 8/21/2018
Sounds good for music and movies with my two ELAC Debut B6.2 bookshelf speakers as only speakers. Stereo separation not noticeable with bookshelf speakers. Even with speakers 15 feet apart sound appears centered at TV. Adding an ELAC C6.2 center speaker helps with stereo separation, but still not pronounced.
Pros: Sound is excellent in 2.0 and 3.0 configurations. Picture from Netflix, Amazon Prime and STARZ is good 1080p. FM works fine too. Runs cool.
Cons: Stereo effect minimal. Buyer should read the Sony on-line "Help Guide" at https://docs.sony.com/release//Help_4731211111.pdf In particular note the "sound field" description and note that some choices disable the center speaker or the sub woofer. The choice of "sound field" is all the control the listener has.
