Open box and customer service

This is a review of Crutchfield, not the amp: I ordered this amp open box. It sat while I completed the rest of the install. When I went to wire it in, it was missing the speaker level input clip thingy ("thoroughly inspect and test"?). I chatted with customer service on Sunday, they "stole" a new piece off of another amp and I received it Wednesday. It was the speaker level input for an Audio Control LOC, not amp. I called in this morning ready for a fight to get an unopened product at the same price. Rebecca apologized and is sending out a brand new unopened amp, I have 2 weeks to return the original. No one cross ships anymore, especially on a $500+ item. Two different people at Crutchfield made mistakes in this process, but Crutchfield did everything I could have expected to fix them. If you're ordering open box, beware that you may have an issue, but Crutchfield works hard to make it right. Still 5 stars.

Plenty of power but didnt deliver the results I needed.

First off, buy the remote level control. It really does help with controlling the volume. With that said, I really wanted to like this amp. And overall I did. It is very easy to wire up with the speaker lead inputs. I used it to power my JL Audio dual 8 micro subs. It has plenty of power. My issue was the crossover. The control for it has set points for the different levels. I simply couldn't find a crossover setting that blended with the stock Tacoma system. It was either too low or too high. Now keep in mind, the subs are in a small truck which makes them easy to hear. If they were in an SUV or a car I doubt this would be an issue since the subs aren't basically in the back seat where you can hear everything. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this amp again if I was using it in a different vehicle where there is some forgiveness with the crossover settings. The positive is the amp never got too hot and it will deliver bass with authority. It just wasn't the right amp for my application.

Pros: Plenty of power. Runs cool. Comically easy to wire up.

Cons: Set crossover points.

This amp packs a punch in a small package. It was very easy to hide in my Highlander, as I was able to place it under the passenger seat. I highly recommend this amp and Audio Control products.

Pros: Power Size Quality

I chose this amp because it not only matches the RMS power recommendation of my JL Audio Stealthbox but also has speaker level inputs which made it easy to wire into the subwoofer speaker wires from my stock Alpine stereo. I am very happy with the results.

Needs nothing but a good sub. I have this powering a L7 shallow mount sub and I'm getting signal from the line leading right to the factory sub in the spare tire compartment of a 2019 cx5 (no need to go under passenger seat at all). No convertor or anything but the bass would make you think I have two 12s in a box. Hard deep bass. Easy install and easily hidden. Looks like there's nothing in the back but my microfiber towels and tire spray in my space saver bag. I have a good amp for life and will continue to buy Audio control.

Pros: Super easy install, easily hidden, Great sound and powerful.

Cons: I see no cons at all.

3 years of ownership and use and still happy with this amp. About a year ago the amp failed. Component failure within the amp. Called the manufacturer, a few steps to determine the issue. Once it was found to not be user correctable, I was able to ship it back free of charge. Repaired and had it back in a week. Excellent customer service and love this amp. As well as the D6.1200 I have. Highly recommended.

Pros: High quality. Easy connectors. Setup is simple and straight forward. Customer service was excellent.

Cons: Had a component fail. But it was repaired and returned in a week.

I paired this with an LC-4.800 four channel amp and have been blown away by the sound...both in quality and intensity. And that's before really getting into the tuning and tweaking of both. I am really looking forward to listening to my stereo with this system installed.

Pros: ease of set up, compact design, lots of options on set up.

Cons: nothing

The ability to connect it to my stock radio without the need for a Line Out Converter was one of the main reasons I even started looking at this amp (one less piece of hardware to buy and install). Add to that the AccuBASS to normalize the bass roll-off from the factory unit, and the GTO signal sense to act as the remote wire - I was sold. Got it all connected to my Audiofrog GB12D4 @ 2 ohms (so, pushing 800w roughly - have not measured it yet) and that combination sounds fantastic! When/if I get around to upgrading all of the interior speakers and need something to power those, AudioControl will be where I start looking.

Pros: AccuBass, GTO signal sense - small (ish) size, speaker level inputs, 800w @ 2ohms

Cons: The top of the amp got scratched the first time I took the cover plate off - sort of bummed about that. Luckily the cover plate covers that, but still... feel like it could be a better/tougher finish.

This is my first AudioControl product I've ever owned and I absolutely love it! I have it powering one 12 inch Alpine Type R and it sounds amazing. The previous amp I was using was 1000w so I was a little skeptical about lowering it down to 800w. After making adjustments on the amp, I was a happy customer. My lights still dim, but it's so faint you can hardly tell. The amp does get a little warm but not hot.

Pros: Features Power Size

Cons: None at the moment

An amazing amp that makes installation and tuning a snap. Where this amp shines is its versatility. Not running a remote wire is cool, but the gain setup is phenomenal. Run rca's or speaker level ins, find your max clean signal, set the gain to that and your good!

Pros: Very easy setup and tuning, clean finish with the aluminum cover.

Cons: The Phillips head set screws, very minor gripe though.

Good clean power, I have it pushing two Alpine 10 type S @ 4ohm with ease. I think I can get better sound by using a DSP instead of a cheaper LOC, but that is due to my factory head unit.

Pros: It has plenty of power and tuning capabilities. 102 signal to noise ratio ie I can't hear any distortion in my subs

Cons: It has plenty of tuning capabilities, which makes it hard for a beginner to tweak themselves. If you want to call that a con

Great amp, the controls have a nice snap for the crossover, and every knob has a half way snap position. I like the detachable block for the left and right inputs for speaker wire and the GTO function is great. Amp runs a bit hot but that might be due to the position I have it mounted.

Function over form

Joseph from Birmingham, AL on 3/2/2020

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Impressive, smaller footprint for the power output of this amplifier. The specs including SN ratio, THD, and damping factor are well a step above other amps in this class. I've used the amplifier in both 4 ohm and 2 ohm impedance configurations and even with the higher output at 2 ohm resistance the lights on my vehicle do not dim (Honda civic). This is a testament to the amplifier's efficiency. Temperature of the amp never gets warm for any worry and the simple styling is a no nonsense kind that suggests function over form which is what I prefer anyway. This amplifier provides plenty of subwoofer output for my listening needs and am satisfied with my purchase.

Pros: Good efficiency, small footprint, respectable specs and output, simple styling

Great little amp. This is my second one as the first one stopped working. AudioControl is going to repair it and I will just keep it as a spare. No harm, no foul. Overall the power output is great, AccuBass does what it's supposed to. GTO does what its supposed to. I'm using the subwoofer speaker level out from the B&O amp on my 19 Ford Ranger. Simple hookup. Power/ground/speaker level in. If I had one bad thing to say about it, it's the finish. While AudioControl makes some of the best amps out there, it doesn't feel like a premium product - but that is me nitpicking.

Pros: GTO, Accubass, simple hookup, great power, runs cool

Cons: Scratches easily, with it had a little nicer finish.

Great amp, non defeatable filters though.

David from Everett, WA on 11/27/2018

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great performing amp and good price however, the crossover cannot be defeated, only adjusted. To use a separate DSP, the crossover needs to be set at the highest frequency frequency to allow the dsp to cross it lower and be out of the way for example, I cross at 80hz but not in the amp, I set the amp to the highest frequency as a workaround but I'd rather it was defeatable. If mounting vertically and right side up with the nomenclature properly readable, there is a gap in the heastink area that will allow screws and other garbage in. If mounting vertically I would mount them 90 degrees right or left so the heatsink is facing either right or left. The cover is supposed to keep garbage out of the controls but no thought about the huge point of entry I mentioned earlier. The other thing few manufacturers mention is that when setting up two of these for stereo bass, one amp for each of two subs, you must use an RCA Y cable or the output will be weak from only sending one input to the left and right summing circuit. So far JL Audio makes this clear, nothing from Audio Control, not a word. I'm past my return window or I'd get the JL Audio HD series. This LC-1800 is such a good amp marred by some very easily correctable shortcomings in how the design was executed. If none of what I mentioned matter to you, eg, you will use the amp's crossover and not mount it vertically with the fins up, you can not get more amp quality for the money. I never used the Accubass,

Pros: Very decent amp and compact, a tremendous value for sound quality at this price.

Cons: Crossover is non-defeatable, has to be worked around using a separate DSP or the head unit's crossover and dsp. If mounting vertically with the heat sinks facing up, there is a huge gap that things can fall into the amp such as crews etc.
