About the AudioControl LC2i PRO

Buck Pomerantz

High-level input line output converter

More and more aftermarket amplifier installations depend on using the factory amp's powered outputs for its inputs. AudioControl's LC2i PRO line output converter takes amplified speaker-level signals and converts them into high-quality preamp signals that can then be fed to another processor, a full-range amplifier, or your subwoofer amp.

Bass feature

Some factory radios dial down the bass as you turn up the volume to protect the flimsy factory speakers. The problem is, they don't give it back when you upgrade to a nice set of aftermarket speakers. AudioControl packs the LC2i PRO with their AccuBASS™ circuitry that reverses the factory low-frequency roll-off, giving you the bass you need to enjoy your music to the fullest.

Installation conveniences

The included dash-mount wired remote control allows you to adjust the level of your sub channel on the go. Load selection switches make OEM integration easier, so the LC2i PRO will work with almost any factory sound system. Selectable turn-on modes include GTO™ Signal Sense (DC offset), audio sense, or remote 12 volt inputs.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The AudioControl LC2i PRO is an active, high-voltage OEM line converter. This compact, two-channel processor with active input circuitry, accepts speaker-level signals of up to 400-watts per channel from factory-installed source units or amplifiers. It then converts the speaker-level signals to high-quality pre-amp signals that can be directed to after market processors and/or amplifiers. The LC2i PRO features a 3-way input load selector, for improved factory system integration, and an ACR-1 Remote Level Control for adjusting the Bass output signal from the driver's seat.

Compact Chassis Design: The AudioControl LC2i PRO active, high-voltage OEM line converter features a compact chassis for an unobtrusive installation.

Active Circuitry: The active circuitry used in the LC2i PRO provides dramatically better sound quality and does not compromise the bass response.

Two Channel Speaker-Level Input: The AudioControl LC2i PRO features a two channel active/speaker-level input that accepts up to 400-watt per channel signals. The two-channel line-output converter features removable captive-screw terminals (Euroblock/Phoenix) for quick connection.

9.5V Preamp Outputs: The AudioControl LC2i PRO is equipped with 9.5-volt RMS (13-volt peak) preamp outputs w/ level matching controls. It features a pair of Main preamp outputs (for full-range amplifiers) and a pair of Bass preamp outputs (for subwoofer amplifiers).

AccuBass: The AudioControl LC2i PRO features AccuBass processing for correction of bass roll-off. AccuBass processing automatically corrects for the bass roll-off that is common with many factory installed audio systems. AccuBass Bass Compensation works at any volume level.

Threshold and Level Controls: Simple Threshold and Level controls allow users to optimize the bass response to match their speaker system.

Load Select: This slide-switch lets you select one of three input loads to best match the factory system, preventing the it from muting the output with no load detected.

  • 20Ω: Best suited for late model Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/RAM/Fiat vehicles with a non-amplified OEM sound system.
  • 60Ω: Best suited for late model Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/RAM/Fiat vehicles with an amplified, or "Premium", sound system.
  • 20kΩ: Used for most other vehicle applications.

Trigger Mode: The AudioControl LC2i PRO features 3 methods of activation, via a 3-way switch:

  • GTO (Great Turn On) Signal Sense: This turn-on method can sense a DC offset when the factory radio is powered on.
  • Audio: Activates when a sound source is played, regardless of factory radio already being powered on.
  • Remote In: Uses the "traditional" method of activation, with a +12V input on the Remote In terminal.

Ground Isolation Switch: Three signal-ground options are provided for eliminating grounding noise problems:

  • GND: Power ground and audio ground are tied together.
  • ISO: Power ground and audio ground are separated.
  • 200Ω: Provides 200 ohms of resistance between power ground and audio ground.

Remote Level Control: The AudioControl LC2i PRO includes an ACR-1 wired remote level control for adjusting the Bass Output from the front seat. A 16.5' cable, terminated in RJ-14 connectors, is provided for connection.

Note: The ACR-1 won't increase the Bass Output level past where the top-panel Bass Output Level dial is set to, preventing overloading of the output signal.

Mounting: The LC2i PRO features integrated mounting flanges to mount the unit under a seat, in the trunk, or under the dash. No mounting hardware is supplied.

Power Connections: The AudioControl LC2i PRO requires a hardwired power and ground connection to your vehicle's 12-volt electrical system. The line-output converter features removable captive-screw terminals for quick connection.

Q
Using the bass output on the Lc2i Pro can I use a rca y-adapter and get signal to two mono sub amps?
wyatt  Sep 10, 2023
1 answer
A
I see no reason why not, Wyatt. I would make sure to use high-quality Y-adapters like the EFX Delta series in the link below! I also personally prefer the EFX RCA's as they have a really tight fit on the barrels and will not jiggle loose over time. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142DFF/EFX-Delta-Series-Y-Adapter.html

Q
Does the Lc2 i product come with everything ti hook up to stereo?
james  Mar 11, 2023
1 answer
A
The AudioControl LC2i PRO 2-channel line output converter comes with the ACR-1 Level control, and the 16.5' Level-control cable (RJ-14), James. Every car is different, but you can set yourself up for success on install with the items in the links below. First is the Wiring Kit for Processors and Low-Current Devices in the first link. This is just like our paired wiring kits for amps, just mini-sized and perfect for the LC2i PRO! Second link below is some 16-gauge bulk speaker wire. You will use this for signal wherever you "tap" in. Make sure you choose around 40-feet or so if you need to run from the radio to the trunk! The third link is for Posi-taps, these will allow you to "tap" in without cutting any factory wires. Grab all three and it is a recipe for success! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_700DSPLOC/Wiring-Kit-for-Processors-and-Low-Current-Devices.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_007CSW16/Crutchfield-Speaker-Wire-16-gauge.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP502/Posi-Products-Car-Speaker-Connectors.html

How do i connet this to an epicenter?
uryel  Oct 25, 2022
1 answer
A
If you are going for massive, deep bass Uriel the AudioControl Epicenter below is the ticket. You can simply connect the bass output RCA to the inputs of the Epicenter, then the outputs of the Epicenter to your subwoofer amps inputs. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161EPICEB/The-Epicenter-by-AudioControl-Black.html

Q
How would you wire the speaker wires to the LC2i pro if your adding a sub amp as well as a 4 channel amp for the doors ?
liiboy  Oct 15, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Liiboy, and thank you for your question. The LC2i is a 2 channel line converter, you can add a 4 channel, and a sub amp, you would just not have any fade on the front and rear channels. For wiring help, please call our technical support line. You will, have a direct number on your shipping confirmation email if purchased from Crutchfield. If you purchased this elsewhere, you can call Audio Control at 425-775-8461

Q
Would you connect to wires for front or rear speakers in a 2020 ram 2500? I have it connected to wires behind head unit for front door speakers but just running it to amp and subs under rear seat. Gonna add bigger 5 channel amp and more mid range and tweeters to the sun box and not sure the front door speakers are a full range signal.

Q
I have a 2013 Lexus ES350 that has a factory built in amp. I want to add a separate 12" after market sub and amp. I have the LC2I Pro but I am not sure if I get the signal from the head unit of from the factory amp? I planned on tapping into the rear door speakers for the signal. I also heard of others tapping into the factory rear subwoofer. Any help would be great.
jason  Sep 12, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jason, and thank you for your question. Some might connect it to the factory subwoofer signals, but thats really not best as just low frequencies go thru that. Audio Control recommends connecting to a full range output, that will enhance the bass restoration process of the LC2i.
hogan  Sep 12, 2022 (Staff)
Q
What gauge wire should be used for the line in to an amp?
patrick  Jul 31, 2022
1 answer
A
We tend to use 18 AWG wire for speaker-level inputs as well as for power and ground connections.
zachary  Jul 31, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can i use it on a 5 channel amp?
ferdi  Jul 11, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Ferdi, and thank you for your question. The LC2i Pro has both full range and bass only outputs. You can use it with a 5 channel amplifier, but you will lose front to rear fade, and you might need to use RCA splitters depending on the 5 channel amp.
hogan  Jul 11, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Can low-level inputs be used vs. High Level as an audio source?
james  May 13, 2022
1 answer
A
Use tour high level inputs for better sound. Low level input is only about 4 volts. High level input is 10 volts. If you are using a newer amp and a factory radio, I definitely recommend to high level input. Low level is old tech with rca's, if tou want a cleaner better sound, go high level input.
christopher  May 13, 2022
Q
Can I use a 1600 watt max amp on this?
austin  May 09, 2022
1 answer
A
This just converts your stereo's speaker wires to rca cables for your amp(s). You can also clean up your signals to your amp(s) a little from this device as well. So to answer your question, yes, you can use that amp (or any one really) with this.
james  May 10, 2022
Q
Can I use a 1600 watt max amp on this?
austin  May 09, 2022

Should work great. Your amp will actually receive its full restored base signal from this device through the RCA outputs. Then it's up to you to run your amp tuning procedures to avoid clipping your amplified signal

Q
Is this better than the kicker keyloc?
trenton  Oct 08, 2021
4 answers
A
I am not sure it is better but it is different because the keyloc is more like a DSP box where the LC2i is more like a typical line out converter. It really depends upon your particular system and what you need to do. I chose the LC2i because I was only trying to upgrade a factory subwoofer and I needed a separate remote level control for the new sub. It looks like the keyloc does not have a separate remote level control so I would not use this unit to drive a signal for a subwoofer amplifier. If your vehicle has a factory DSP system the keyloc might be a good choice if you need to restore a full range signal if for example you are upgrading the front door/dash speakers and plan to drive them with a separate amplifier. In that case the keyloc would give you a solid clean signal to work with.
scott  Oct 10, 2021
A
I haven't used the kicker loc, but after going over that item, I can't say one would be better than the other. They are both very nice units. To me, it appears it's more about what you're after. The kicker seems to do most of the tuning automagically whereas the LC2i you have the control in the tuning. I'm sure you'll be happy with either of them, best of luck!
james  Oct 09, 2021
A
I haven't used the Kicker keylock. This LC2i seems like the standard that everyone buys, for good reason. I'm also using the kicker KX800.1 which didn't do a very good job with converting the high level into low level. My truck has premium sound that's already amplified. The LC2i does what it says it will do.
robert  Oct 09, 2021
A
By far man. Audio Control is the best in the business for output converters. That's their main seller. Much better customer service too. The lc2i pro has a cutoff of 20hz too so you can get the low notes. The lc2i pro does more than the kicker keyloc.

Yes but after using it in my setup , I wish I would've just upgraded the head unit as it doesn't give me the sound I wanted
noel  May 27, 2021
A
Not sure about your system, but there is an adjustment on the LC2i unit which will solve the bass roll off problem. I tapped into the rear deck speaker output and the unit works well. However, this unit comes with an adjustment knob as did the subwoofer I bought. I had to use the subwoofer adjustment knob because the knob provided with the LC2i caused a lot of noise. Not sure why that was happening, but using the sub knob worked for me.
jody m  May 27, 2021
A
Should work. I installed in in my 2013 VW Jetta with the Fender premium audio package. I tapped into the existing bass wires that ran to my stock 8" sub. Sounds great other than having to add sound mat so my trunk doesn't rattle. Good luck!

Q
Where would I tap into in a 2021 corolla since it doesn't have a factory sub?
hunter  May 01, 2021
4 answers
A
You can tap into the rear deck speakers for signal and then from the LC2i to either your crossovers or amplifiers. The crossovers are optional as your amps do have their own built into them for high, mid, low.
james  May 18, 2021
A
The technician tapped into both tweeters by the front windshield, those covers pop off. I was told that most all in one subwoofers don't need this device as our cars don't fluctuate the bass based on the volume.
ernest  May 18, 2021
A
ask tech support for a wiring diagram for your vehicle and find a pair of factory speaker outputs, for example if the rear deck has factory speakers those would be the input signals for the LC2i or maybe the rear door speakers, avoid tapping into separate tweeter wires because the signal may not be full range, the LC2i does have a bass restoration setting but you still need to tap into a PAIR of woofer speaker wires IF your system does not have a mono sub output

Will this work in a 2020 Grand Cherokee with factory sub? I want to add an additional amp and sub.
mike  Feb 23, 2021
6 answers
A
I don't see why it wouldn't. I bought this for my 2015 GC w/ factory sub and it works great! Glad to see you're looking for a quality LOC, the cheap ones will just give you headaches! The only small hiccup on my install was finding a source.. I ended up stealing signal from the factory sub as I felt it was the easiest and least invasive signal to steal. That side panel is kind of a pain to remove, but worth it in the end. Oh, and if you leave the factory sub hooked up as well and you find your sub doesn't sound quite as powerful as it should, reverse the subs polarity. Happened to me! They were cancelling each other out..
james  Feb 24, 2021
A
I don't see why not.
steven  Feb 23, 2021
A
Hey Mike! This LoC is for universal applications and i can't think of any reasons why it wouldn't work for your specific application. Adding one amp to this little guy is well within its limitations. Audio control also has some very high quality amps with this built in. Good luck! -RK PERFORMANCE SHOP
kenley  Feb 23, 2021
A
Yeah itll work. Don't hook up the input leads to the stock subwoofer or amp tho. You need to splice into the front (or rear) left and right channel speakers. And then run the wire from each speaker and put them into the designated inputs on the lc2i. It comes with detailed instructions. It needs a full range signal tho, so that's why you tap into the speakers. If you tap into the stock sub, the crossover on that will interfere with the crossover on the lc2i and not work correctly.
adrian  Feb 23, 2021
A
Yep, it uses the signal from your factory sub, converts it then goes to the amp. Should not interfere with function of factory sub.

Yes, and it comes with detailed instructions. It'll work just fine. Make sure to tap into the speakers because the lc2i needs a full range speaker. Don't tap into the stock subwoofer, if you do that, the crossover on the stock sub can interfere with the crossover on the lc2i and not work correctly

You'll be better off with a LC6i since that will provide 4 channels for the speakers and 2 channels for if you're running a amp for a subwoofer in the future.
vi  Sep 01, 2020
A
Yes The converter has two Pairs of rca outputs 1 for a full range amp and one for a sub amp does not matter what class It puts out up to 9v out pre amp voltage and can use the optional gain remote for the sub amp A very good purchase if u are wanting to add sub and/or high/ mid amp to your stock system Does not need a remote line to turn on You can switch it to audio and it automatically turn on when sound from the speaker inputs are detected but also give out a power remote to your amps to turn on if needed which makes it one less wire to search for and hook up to the stock system
