About the Kicker 48TRTP82

Bob Bihlmayer

Enlarge your horizons with bigger bass

Kicker's TRTP82 loaded enclosure puts a low-profile CompRT 8" subwoofer and a 8" passive driver in a downward-firing box that brings Kicker bass power to the crowded spaces of today's cars and trucks. The rugged sealed box was designed specifically for the subwoofer, so you can count on getting maximum performance, whatever you listen to. The second sub (called a "passive radiator") reacts to the air pressure produced by the active sub, reinforcing the low end without the noise of a ported enclosure.

Made to dish it out

The CompRT sub's tough injection-moulded polypropylene cone gives it the stiffness to resist distortion when you're pushing the volume. Its rubber surround stands up to heavy use, and combines with a specially-designed back plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs. This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS, so you'll get the kind of bass response that brings the best out of your music.

Good-looking and tough

The box's downward-firing design helps protect the sub from damage, and lets you place items on top of the cabinet to save space. Its sturdy medium-density fiberboard construction and rugged black carpet covering give the enclosure good looks that complement its performance.

Features

Woofer & Passive Radiator: The Kicker 48TRTP82 enclosure is loaded with one 8" CompRT series subwoofer. The Kicker subwoofer features a polypropylene cone with a Santoprene surround. The surround and cone are attached using Kicker's signature red double stitching, providing an outstanding bond. Along with the subwoofer, the 48TRTP82 features an 8" Kicker reFLEX passive radiator, providing extremely low bass from a compact sealed enclosure.

Forced Air Cooling: Kicker uses their SoloKon technology to join the cone to the vented back brace, creating a single integrated unit. This forces air through the motor assembly allowing it to run 20% cooler and helping eliminate distortion.

Down-Firing Enclosure: The sealed down-firing enclosure is made of heavy-duty MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with extensive internal bracing, providing exceptional acoustic efficiency and deep powerful bass. The enclosure is covered in sleek black carpeting for added protection and a refined look. Its compact, down-firing form allows it to be mounted in cargo areas, or under seats.

Speaker Terminals: A single pair of spring-posts are mounted on the underside of the enclosure in a recessed terminal cup, and will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power: The single 2Ω CompRT subwoofer can handle 150W-300W RMS (600W peak).

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker CompRT speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The suspension system is very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. Once broken-in, the subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Q
Would it fit in a 2000 f350 crew cab?
daniel  Sep 26, 2023

A
We do not qualify universal fit subwoofer enclosures like the Kicker 48TRTP82 for specific vehicle fit, Daniel. What we advise is taking accurate measurements of your installation space and comparing to the listed measurements for the Kicker box I have copied below for you. Dimensions are: 23.7" Wide 5" High 12.13" Deep Any items that simply do not fit after due diligence in measuring can be returned for a refund within the first 60-days, so no worries! These Kicker down firing subwoofers are always a great call to pack some serious bass into a small space!

Would this fit in the back of a â??22 Tellurideâ?¦trunk spare compartment?

A
We do not qualify universal subwoofer boxes like the Kicker 48TRTP82 for vehicle fit, Blane. We advise taking accurate measurements of the installation space and comparing them to the specs on the Kicker box listed below: 23.7" Wide 5" High 12.13" Deep IF you place it behind the third-row seats on top of the storage compartment facing down it does appear a fit, as I have some rough measurements for that space listed at: 45" wide 16" high 18" deep The Kicker sounds great and with the down-firing design you can still stack groceries and other items on top without damaging the speaker!

Q
Would this sub fit behind a bench seat style standard cab 1992 GMC Sierra 1500? I'm 6'6". I want some bass in my truck but don't wanna be scrunched up either.

Only 6inches deep so if you lay it on it's side it's possible.

While we do measure that area in a lot of vehicles when they are in our possession, it looks like we didn't on this one. For that reason, I'm unable to determine fit. I'm sorry.

What type of kicker amp would match up with this speaker?

400 mono is perfect

I am not sure which Kicker AMP would work best. But should be something with at least 200 - 300 RMS. I am using a Rockford Fosgate 5 channel amp for my door speakers and this sub. It pushes 300 RMS to the sub and that works great.
