No grilles?
Eli from Santa Rosa, CA on 6/25/2023
I was very surprised to find that these speakers did not come with grills, and you are expected to pay more for the correct units. That's a bait and switch, and a 15% bump from the original purchase price. I was more surprised that Crutchfield sold me a set of grille-less speakers knowing they were going down in the kick panels of a convertible. I'm used to better advice than that. Also, the docs that come with these speakers are useless. Ever had fun trying to put European furniture together? Same thing, and Hertz has no video presence except for a few very specialized videos that were of no help. You have to guess how to put together their little funny tweeter pods. The head unit I got seems nice, but this was a definite miss compared to previous Crutchfield purchases.
Pros: Inexpensive if you don't need grills, seem OK. You can have a fun time guessing how to install them.
Cons: No grills, super expensive to buy them. The manual is so stripped down and internationalized that it's like furniture instructions, and there's no support online unless you are installing on a Harley.

Good component speakers
James from Stockton, CA on 3/22/2023
2002 Honda CRV LX
Looks and feel way better than my OEM speakers. Decided to go with these components, and I'm running these guys with a 4 channel amp. I installed the tweeters in dash, I had to run speakers wire through the rubber grommet connecting to the inside of the car. It sounds really good. I'm very happy with my purchase

Bought these speakers from Crutchfield and they turned out to be the wrong size 5.25 size was incorrect i should have done more research, what i really needed was 6.50 size speakers so i had to send them back for a refund. I don't think its fair of Crutchfield to charge me for a return shipping Label. In the future i will do more research i could have purchased the exact speakers from another retailer. And saved money they are cheaper there and if i had to return them I wouldn't have had to pay for return shipping.

Woof&Tweet thru CROSSOVER!
Sterling from SAN FRANCISCO, CA on 9/11/2022
2003 Honda Accord EX
Great sound! 7thgen accord woes. I looked at the crossover units and at first I thought the woofers could just go to the factory door wires and I could just wire the tweeters to the crossovers and tuck them in dash where the factory tweeters were. Did not sound right and I was not sure if the head unit could handle the parallel speaker wiring without being hooked up to the outputs on the crossover. It seemed like the woofer output was just a pass-through. Then again, the wires are so slim on the crossover, maybe the woofers were just louder with direct wires going to them. Either way, I ended up pulling the tweeters out of the dash and wiring everything per instructions. I would like to keep the tweeters in the dash, but that means opening up more stuff or finding out where the tweeter and woofer wires split from the radio harness and putting the crossovers in a spot they might not fit. So I have some messy holes in the dash grills. And not sure where to put the tweeters in the door. I also don't like exposing the crossovers in the door panel where moisture can develop and a lot of door closing happens. They are not the easiest things to mount. As far as the sound quality goes, with the right seal, these speakers can take a lot of punishment so far. I seem to get awesome lower mid to highs with the crossover done right. They are not as loud, but I was probably overheating the built in amp before. They balance well with a good pair of high sensitivity 6 x 9's. No amps neede
Pros: When both drivers go through the crossover, these are clear and punchy from the mid-low to high range. Minimal power requirements, sounds good without an amp. Complements something with a little more bass quite well. Without a good seal, no distortion.
Cons: Dash tweeters are a pain to replace with woofers in the door and putting the crossover in the right place. Wires are thin and hard to crimp Instructions are somewhat vague

hurts my ears

I installed these in a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter Van and they are definitely better than the original speakers, but the high Hz sounds are too sharp. Hurts my ears and had to manually adjust the equalizer on Spotify to make it tolerable. If I were to do it all over again, I would invest in something higher quality.
Pros: cheap
Cons: not quality sound

Nice clear highs, not much low end
Crutchfield customer from Princeton, MA on 7/8/2021
2018 Toyota Sequoia
I picked these speakers to fit my 2018 (non-JBL, with factory nav) Toyota Sequoia after listening to the modeled speaker comparisons on the Crutchfield website (paired with DSK 170.3 in the front). They 'sounded' so much clearer with better imaging than the limited number of other speakers that fit my car. After a few hours of real listening, I can confidently say that they are very clear and bright. The factory radio in my Sequoia has 3-band EQ. To achieve anywhere near a reasonable balance, I set treble to anywhere from -1 to -5 (almost the minimum) and bass from 0 to +1. The potency in the upper range makes it so much easier to hear vocals (baseball games, music lyrics, audiobooks) but can be a little annoying when listening to music at low volumes and only hearing cymbals. Basically, they would benefit from a -3db pad on the crossover to be more balanced. Also, by going down in diameter from the factory woofers (required for depth fit), I lost a lot of bass in the rear doors. If my factory radio had dynamic loudness adjustment, that would also help (the highs aren't so over-present at higher volumes). Clarity is night and day compared to the factory speaker drivers that effectively have no high end at all. I'm moderately happy with the upgrade but might have to look into amp/sub options. Fitting the tweeters in the rear pillars required me to unsolder the factory tweeters. After that, reinstall was simple. Sigh.
Pros: Clear highs, Woofers fit easily with supplied bracket
Cons: (un)soldering required, Not much bass, Had to order tweeter brackets (82-4201) myself since these "do not fit" my Sequoia

Cheap wires that you'll have to beef up
Richard from Utah on 6/11/2021
2021 Toyota Sequoia
These sound decent. Very tiny gauge wire is pre-connected to each crossover and tweeter. The wires are too small to crimp. I had to solder heavier wire and heat shrink to be able to use the crimp on terminals. At this price point I expected beefier construction. One of the crossovers was faulty. It takes a lot more work than it normally takes to install these components in the first place due to the cheapness of some of the materials. Having a crossover fail after building up the wimpy wiring harness means I'll never buy hertz products again. Crutchfield made everything right in the end.
Pros: Sound
Cons: Sub-par tiny guage hard wired tweeters and crossovers that are too tiny to crimp.

Hertz DSK 130.3
Crutchfield customer from St Michaels, MD on 9/20/2020
Put these into my 2012 Sprinter and they are a huge upgrade over stock and install stealthily in the stock locations. Crutchfield phone tech support was great too. Sprinter NCV3 specifics: The supplied adapters made the lower-door woofer install painless, and the tweeters fit snugly into the stock dash location. I did have to lengthen the speaker wire from the crossovers to the tweeters (Hertz should supply the crossovers with twice the current wire length. Installation instructions could be better by providing suggested mounting locations for the crossovers as well as detailing that the crossover to tweeter wire needs to be pulled from the door to the dash corner tweeter locations, the most difficult step in the install. Finally, I think instructions should strongly recommend disconnecting the dual voice coil stock center speaker.
