Works as advertised. I bought this to replace the same unit that died. I had hoped that I could used some of the original cables but the new ones were different so I had to re-run all the way back to the head unit.
Pros: Good picture Makes parking & towing simpler Inconspicuous location in license plate frame
Cons: Fish eye view takes a bit to get used to Limited lifespan (old one died after about 10yrs.

Paired up with an Alpine ILX-407. Clarity is excellent but more importantly I had to mount the camera about 10" off center on my hatch and the parking line adjustments are so good with this equipment that I was able to adjust the lines perfectly to match the sides of the car.
Pros: Great adjustability with the parking lines, picture clarity is awesome, Night vision works well

Added backup camera to existing ILX-207 in my 2008 Toyota Tacoma. Plug and play to head unit with provided black cable only. Super convenient and easy. Other cables provided need to be utilized for non-Alpine head units. When reverse is engaged, the iDatalink Maestro (installed when ILX-207 was installed) receives signal and activates the rear-view camera. No need to tap into reverse wire. Camera was mounted to pop-n-lock handle in tailgate with some mounting modifications required (wired in place and hot glued, solid).
Pros: Resolution is decent, not amazing.

I first bought this camera in December 2020 to pair with an Alpine INE-W977HD head unit for a Rav4. The camera always showed the backup guidelines but the video has always been glitchy, as the picture would sometimes be there, but often not. I did a fair amount of trouble shooting research and never found a defective camera to be the source of a problem. Also, because it acted like a wiring problem, and that is the most-often cited source of backup camera problems, I futzed with the wiring off and on over the course of the last 2 years. (I've bought a lot of Crutchfield and my experience with Crutchfield products has been consistently very good - if something doesn't work, it's pretty much been my mistake.) Anyway, as a last ditch effort, I just bought a new camera last week, same model and replaced the old one. This new camera works perfectly. Lesson learned: even premium products have defects.

Derek from Fremont, CA on 2/20/2023
Okay picture quality. Does not do as well in low light as the OEM cameras on some of my other cars. This kit does not come with trigger wire that some radios require to automatically switch on when shifting to reverse. I had to run an extra wire all the way from the tail light to the radio. Also, the video cable was not long enough to reach the radio in my Subaru Outback. I put the power module in the back left corner of the trunk, and even then, the cable from the power module to the radio only made it to the driver seat. I had to extend the RCA cable to reach the radio. (Luckily I had an extension sitting around.)
Pros: Okay picture and build quality
Cons: Needs extra wires/cable for some setups

Whoop Whoop!
Sean from SNEADS FERRY, NC on 1/25/2023
I am an average Joe, I believe this camera is too expensive for what it brings to the table. Though it's not as bad as the Alpine HCE-C2100RD version. This camera does show most of what is behind you with good clarity and decent night vision. The night version is aided by your backup lights, especially if you have upgraded them. The backup lines do not move, even if your vehicle has a steering wheel position sensor in support of some version of traction control. I found that the backup lines impeded my ability to see what was behind me. You cannot turn off the backup lines. You cannot make them more transparent either, all you can do is adjust them out of you view(x3). Once for each red, yellow, and red line. They don't appear to be to a scale that would assist with distance determinations anyway. If you thought you would be in some special club by using Alpine cameras with your Alpine head unit, you won't lol. No special proprietary feature for me or you!

I give this camera a 5 Star because it's doing what it's supposed to do. It's very clear. Only thing, you better have sensors on your car. It don't have anything to alert you. Also, you have to adjust the lines to suit your vehicle. Still a great camera.

Great option, but wish it was HD
Crutchfield customer from Norristown, PA on 7/10/2022
This install was in a 2012 Ford F-150. I was upgrading from a 10 year old Alpine head unit and camera system. I wanted something that was CarPlay enabled with modern features as well as it was time to replace the camera with something that was better in resolution. My dash originally was woodgrain, but with the older Alpine unit, the only dash kit available 10 years ago was in black. I splurged for the Metra 95-5820C Dash Kit so that I could get the woodgrain dash back and it was worth it in my opinion...the dash and radio now looks more "factory". I added an Alpine HCE-C1100 backup camera as well. That install went easy because of Alpine's simple setup of connections between the camera and head unit. It was simple plug and play and easy to hide those connection components elsewhere in the dash if space is an issue behind the head unit because of enough extra wiring length. Just be aware this resolution is HDR and not HD...there is a difference.
Pros: Easy install.
Cons: Wish it came in HD.

Got this to replace an Alpine HCE-C104, which died from moisture intrusion after only a few years use. The C1100 offers a better pic, higher resolution and supposedly a higher resistance to dust and moisture intrusion. Just installed. Jury is still out on long run endurance and performance.
Pros: Install was pretty easy and straightforward. Picture quality good

If you smell something funny...
Tony from Conway, AR on 3/15/2022
It was awesome for about 18 months. Then, while on a road trip, I smelled smoke. I thought it was something outside but then I thought I saw smoke coming from my dash. I pulled over and we took off the dash bezel. I unplugged the radio easily thanks to Crutchfield's awesome radio plugs. I unplugged the HVAC controls. We could not find anything wrong. We continued on out road trip without any HVAV controls or radio. I ordered a used HVAC control and installed it on my way back home. About a week later when I had the chance to look over everything I found that the control box for the rear camera had a melted hole in it. Unfortunately it was out of warranty so I have not had a backup camera in my truck since.
Pros: Great picture! Wow it was great.
Cons: Failed and melted control box.

Arjun from Fredericksburg on 1/16/2022
Good backup camera picture quality wise. However it needs a mounting bracket which comes with white led lights which actually enhanced the camera image. Better than most factory quality camera I've seen in most cars. However, i had issues with image flickering when in reverse mode not consistent but on and off. Took it to have it rewired professionally still had the same issue. Reported to Crutchfield they sent me a replacement( great customer service). But the new camera installed professionally does the same thing. Not sure if it is weather related i installed it over the summer and it was working fine and it started misbehaving after Thanksgiving.
Pros: Good image quality
Cons: Writing is tedious. Does not do well in cold weather?

Angelo from HEREFORD, AZ on 10/5/2021
Very nice camera with good picture quality in both high and low light conditions
Pros: Very good picture quality under various conditions. This replaced a lower quality camera in which the image was reversed from what you'd normally see in the rear view mirror.
Cons: More expensive than the average camera. Also had to purchase license plate frame to properly mount the camera on the back of my car (C6 Corvette - wasn't willing to drill a hole in the back of the car). Also, no instructions on how to wire the thing if you're doing it yourself (I eventually figured it out, but it was rather annoying).

Great companion camera for Alpine unit
Crutchfield customer from Grove City, OH on 9/14/2021
Very competent camera. I used surface-mount (optional Alpine license-plate-mount-compatible). High Dynamic Range eliminates need for extra LED lighting.
Pros: Compact round connector on cam and extender cable made it easier to route through tight spaces. Camera always has power (accessory power), so if head unit supports it, you can view it while driving forward - a plus if you have a towing hitch.
Cons: Perfect for Alpine. It does not incorporate its own backup wiring connection. It depends on a head unit that already has that to display the cam when in reverse.

Works great on my 2002 Impreza
Nathan from VALENCIA, CA on 12/3/2020
Very good picture. Works well in all lighting conditions. I have this installed relatively near to the ground (18") since that's the only location where I could install it on my car, and it works fine. I can get a clear field-of-view behind me, which is what I needed. I had to make an L-shaped bracket out of a piece of aluminum to secure it above my license plate, because there's no structure there on my car (just an empty gap and some styrofoam), but all of the other necessary materials to mount it were included. I chose not to use Alpine's license plate mount, because I wanted it to block as little of the license plate as possible. To answer others' questions: this does not include parking guidelines. This is simply a camera. Guidelines are a function of whatever head unit is installed in your car. In my car, I have the Sony XAV-AX5000, and it works with that unit's guidelines. Because of the low mounting position on my car, the lines aren't in ideal locations, but I got them close enough to be useful. Hint for installation: Instead of trying to hunt down the backup light circuit in the maze of wiring harnesses under my dash, I simply ran an extra wire to the back of the car, and tapped directly into one of the backup light wires. I had to run the wire for the camera back there anyway, so it didn't take any extra work, and made wiring very simple.
Pros: Good picture. Works in a wide range of lighting conditions. Easy wiring.

Nice picture, easy to install in conjunction with license plate frame. The single wire should be long enough to bring into just about any vehicle. I used it on a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Long bed.

Great camera affordable price
Crutchfield customer from Springfield, MO on 3/18/2020
Great camera with clear view, doesn't have the red, yellow or green lines but that is okay for what I use it for. Instructions are not the best, I have an older Alpine radio so I had to look up instructions for the older camera to get it to work.
Pros: Price Easy to install
Cons: If installing on older radio, look for instructions on earlier model cameras that are no longer made.

Paired with my Kenwood DMX7706S head unit. Can't say enough about the quality of the installation components and the quality of the camera. You get what you pay for. The only, and i mean the only gripe I have was the size of the screw heads that you use to mount the mounting bracket to the back of the camera. The heads were a little large and i understand it is to angle the camera down more but in my application i needed the camera to "look up" more so it just made it difficult to adjust. Wiring to my unit was very straight forward. Red to my HU (head units) hot (in my case red), and black to my HU's ground. Ensure that if you run any wires exposed to the weather, you cover them with 1/4" split loom (not included). At any of the connection points outside the vehicle, you squirt some dielectric grease (not included) on the electrical joint then shrink wrap (included) the joint.

An EXCEPTIONAL camera
Crutchfield customer from Avon, OH on 12/7/2019
I purchased the HCE-C1100 camera to replace my existing Pioneer ND-BC8 and found it to be exceptionally superior to the Pioneer. The clarity of the image produced during daylight and especially at night far exceeds that of the Pioneer. Since I already had the Pioneer camera installed, the installation of the Alpine camera was relatively simple, as I just routed/swapped the wires of the new with the wires of the old. The quality of the camera and the hardware is exceptional. I would highly recommend purchasing the Alpine KTX-C10LP frame along with the camera. I unfortunately, did not do so initially in order to save myself the $50, but regretted it afterward and ended up ordering the frame. The installation now looks very professional and I could not be more satisfied with how it all turned out.
Pros: Terrific images, especially at night. Very high quality camera and hardware.
Cons: The owners manual could be better as it is a single double-sided sheet the size of newspaper and is written in 7 different languages.

Excellent quality. Night and day.
Pros: Very nice picture quality even in dark conditions such as at night.
Cons: The screw that connect the camera to bracket are too big and hinder its swivel. I had to change out mines with flatter heads

Nice high quality camera. I also purchaced the Alpine license plate mounting frame. Installation was a little time consuming because I am perticular about hiding wires. This camera came with all plug and play connectors and was easy to install. The only wire that was not plug and play was the power wire. I bought connectors from Auto Zone that allowed me to merge it with the radio power wire without haveing to cut and splice wires. The camera works great day and night. I recommend this HDR camera over a lower quality less expensive option.
Pros: Good picture quality, easy installation.

Very Nice Camera
Crutchfield customer from Prior Lake, MN on 5/20/2019
Great little camera. I put it in a jeep, so the wire harness was perfect. The short piece that attaches to the camera head has a really small diameter wire connection, so you can run it through a small hole. And then connects to the longer wire to take it through the car. Pretty slick set up. The mounting bracket is a bit cheesy, but probably has to be to be flexible enough to use in any situation...but would work. But the head of the camera appears to be made with aluminum, with four small threaded holes for the mount, so can be screwed to most anything securely. The image during the day is great, and wide angle both vertically and horizontally. At night it does well even without any sort of lighting help.....definitely good enough to avoid having to add a gaudy light source like some of the cameras have. Overall I think a great camera at an affordable price.

Have a 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD. Stereo system needed an upgrade and I chose to add a backup camera with the Alpine INE-W977HD head unit. Integrated easily with the head unit. Purchased the Alpine KTX-C10LP license plate from to mount the camera on the rear of my truck. Good picture.
Pros: Seemless integration with Alpine INE-977HD head unit and KTX-C10LP license plate frame.

Dan from Atlanta, GA on 1/8/2019
Installed this into a mid-00s Yukon (long SUV) and connected to the Alpine iLX-207. Picture quality is great, and the transition to camera mode is nearly immediate upon shifting into reverse. Why did I mention the length of the SUV? Alpine provided plenty of cable to reach the rear, and I hid all of the cable under body panels and inside the bumper. Camera is also very small -- I had to point out where it was installed.
Pros: Solid build construction, long cabling, easy install
Cons: It doesn't install itself.

Works great with Alpine i207-WRA Jeep Wrangler restyle kit. Plug and play directly to the head unit which detects reverse automatically so install was just a matter of running the wire to the camera. I center mounted it in the spare tire on the Jeep using a spare tire camera mount ordered from Quadratec and it worked perfectly!
