Alpine HCE-RCAM-WRA
Robert from HIGHLAND, IN on 6/25/2025
2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
When I first installed the Alpine backup camera, it worked flawlessly and provided clear, reliable images. However, after about two months of use, I've started noticing issues with flickering and occasional hazy pictures. Given the price point, I expected a higher-quality, more durable product. These issues have been a real disappointment, as they significantly affect the camera's performance and reliability.

Matthew from Frisco, TX on 6/2/2025

Easy to install. I was installing this with a Sony radio, so I had to use the other wiring bundle. It was easy to figure out and the picture is amazing! The best backup camera of our three cars.
Pros: Easy to install the wiring. Picture is great and clear.
Cons: I had to modify the bracket to work with my particular spare tire carrier. Not a huge deal, just extra time for me.

Great camera. Fair Mount.
Kyle from Summerdale, AL on 1/1/2025
2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Install for the most part was not bad. Hooking it up to the head unit was a simple direct click lock. As for the actual mounting of the camera itself I think there's room for improvement. My Jeep has 35" tires on aftermarket rims. Some sort of quick connect or swing away bracket would be a definite improvement. I had to guess where I thought it should be, put the tire back on carrier and then attach mount through the rim. I had to remove and replace the tire several times to get it right. Manhandling an over sized tire could easily have broken the camera. Once it's mounted if you intend to rotate the spare you should probably remove the camera first before putting tire back on carrier. There's just way too much chance of crushing or breaking the camera while handling an over sized tire. At least that's the case in my setup. Now on to the camera itself. Aside from the mounting I say 5* all the way. I still don't have it fine tuned but the process seems to be easy. I just need a set of parking stripes and obstacles to verify the settings. Picture quality is excellent.
Pros:
Cons: For my application the mounting bracket could use some thought.

Daniel from Headland, AL on 11/11/2024

Does not have the adjustability to utilize with aftermarket rims with big tires. My Jeep has a spacer mounted in between the rim and tire bracket to allow for a bigger tire to miss hitting the rear bumper when closed. The camera bracket won't accommodate for the extra spacer, so the camera ends up behind rim and not visible. Video quality poor as well, day and especially night.

Awesome Camera! I bought this camera because it was Jeep specific. It comes with all the necessary mounting hardware and the instructions were specific to Jeep so installation was very easy. The camera picture very clear and works great in both the daytime and night. I have this connected to an Alpine ilx-407 so connection was very easy!
Pros: Easy install for Jeep specific vehicle.

Wrangler Alpine backup camera
Brady from Waterloo, IL on 3/24/2024

The alpine has good video quality. It has too large of a viewpoint in my opinion for aback up camera. It also lacks the backup lines. Installation was pretty straightforward with some Crutchfield help. I was missing the adapter cable. Service tech sent it out quickly
Pros: Good video quality. Adapted to factory radio
Cons: Too large of a viewpoint. No backup lines

Ronald Bartl from Keller, TX on 4/28/2023

Works great, but sits out past the wheel some on a factory 18" wheel / tire setup. Install was simple, and with the alpine restyle head unit connected to the ODBII and properly flashed maestro module I didn't need to hunt down the reverse wire to splice into (at least on a JK manual transmission 2014). Not sure how to make a spare tire cover work since it isn't centered. I'd prefer it sat back some and I did plan poorly on the cover, but its still a great camera.

Great adjustability but pricey
Marlon from Chesapeake, VA on 1/18/2023
2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Couldn't be happier with this product. A little pricey but very good quality picture with marker lines. It doesn't have trajectory which though. The adjustability may be its best feature. I got it just for that because I wasn't sure if my wheel design would allow the camera to be placed in the 12 o'clock position. It also has adjustability up and down by way of screens on the camera. Would recommend if you need the adjustability. If not then I would opt for something cheaper.
Pros: Adjustability Quality Camera Quality
Cons: Pricey

Plug and Play
James from Batavia, IL on 7/27/2022
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
I chose the brand because I purchased an Alpine head unit. This unit has a mounting system that just plain works. The connection is a match for the head unit so, aside from an interior dismantle, its was plug and play.
Pros: Plug and Play
Cons: Mounting bracket allows side to side and vertical adjustment. I would add a couple pieces to the supplied bracket, for some adjustability closer and further from the vehicle.

Good camera and installation, but what about those lines?
Jacob from Sun City West, AZ on 6/9/2022
2007 Jeep Wrangler
Instructions to connect camera to audio includes lots of Alpine info, generic more limited, but still easy. Odd to have a fuse and a connection midway through the cable from the audio head unit to the camera, but fortunately it was in an easy access location for the particular Jeep we have. There should be a caution when routing the cable to the spare tire mount to avoid pinch points from installing the spare tire. The picture is good, it responds to changes in light levels well and quickly. My only REAL complaint is that you can't adjust the lines while the camera is being used. Why does THAT make sense? You can't establish any realistic distances because the adjustment can ONLY be made when there's a blank screen behind it, not the actual camera view.
Pros: Good picture, good instructions, solid connections and mounting.
Cons: Can't adjust lines with the camera view showing.

Short life span great easy connect
Kevin from Everett, WA on 3/1/2020
2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
At first I loved it after purchase in June of 2019, installed July with an x209. It was a little weak performance at night but amazing daytime. Then January.. Occasional lines and an offset image then it just stopped working. 7 months for a garaged vehicle is unsatisfactory. I it's been offline for a couple months but I waited to write a bad review untitled I checked the integrity of the connections and the whole line. There is only two or connect at camera and I to same branded deck.
Pros: Easy to come t alpine, easy install and aiming
Cons: Short life, weak night time performance but still satisfactory

Meh.
Crutchfield customer from BROOKFIELD, MA on 1/15/2020
2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Install was pretty easy because the Wrangler carpet and plastics come up so easily. Instructions were pretty clear, with pictures. I had hoped at this price (and Alpine brand name) that the quality would be better, not sure if other cameras out there are better? Photos attached are daytime (morning), and two at night. Night views taken at same time, the brighter one is with Jeep lights on. After using it a little, I wonder if I could have saved some cash and got something just as good (or better?). I may have to add a second camera to get a full view (useful when trailering stuff). Then I might point this one down more to see hitch.
Pros: With Alpine head unit, two touches to view camera, and it stays on as long as you wish. With Alpine head unit, no additional wires to run (tapping into backup lights, etc). Built for Wrangler, so mounting in spare tire was pretty convenient!
Cons: I *hate* the warning on the screen, but I assume that is the Alpine head unit, not the camera. It never goes away and blocks an important part of my view (of things that I trailer).

Spend a little more money, get a plug and play unit
Josiah from JUNEAU, AK on 9/29/2019
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (JK)
I bought the Alpine ilx -207 Receiver for my 2018 JKU. Looked like this would be a good match for a back up camera. I was so wrong. The directions are pretty much useless. It is not plug and play. If I would of bought the T-cam backup camera it would have been plug and play. I tried every combination of wiring on this thing, no power..... I tried tech support with Crutchfield and they are great but they were also confused.. I will try the local installer in town and see if he can figure it out. If not I'm sending it back... save your self time and money do not buy this piece of junk.... Good luck to anyone who bought this combination and pulled there hair out trying to get it to work...
Pros: None
Cons: Does not work. Will not turn on.

Rearview is a must
Eric from Cincinnati, OH on 8/18/2019

Very happy with this camera. It integrates perfectly with the i207-WRA head unit. If you are connecting the an Alpine head unit this is a single cable installation which is really convenient. I would have given 5 start is the kit included a new grommet for the rear tailgate.
Pros: Hides nicely between wheel spokes. Nice panoramic view.
Cons: Wish it came with a new rubber grommet for the tailgate. You have to split the factory grommet to run the camera cable through.

Fits great on my 2014 Wrangler JKU and the picture quality is clear. Easy to install and vehicle-specific instructions were very clear and accurate. You'll definitely want to get trip removal tools and some silicon sealant as you'll need to split the grommet in the tailgate. I'm using it with an Alpine iLX-107 deck which requires wiring up the power and ground--easy enough but not completely plug and play on that deck. I wired it up to the reverse wire on the harness so it is only on when in reverse but I could see wiring it to the acc wire instead if I was trailering to be able to turn it on any time the deck is on.
Pros: Clear picture, easy installation.
Cons:

Good way to add rear camera to a Wrangler JK
Martin from Hartford, CT on 5/6/2019
2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Writing this review fresh off of installation of the product along with about a day of actual use. Installation went fine - the wiring path you need to use isn't too hard to reach with the right tools (trim removal tools are required.) If this is the first time you're doing something like this, I'd plan on at least 3 hours to take your time and follow instructions. I followed Alpine's Youtube video for their other Wrangler back-up cam, the TCAM1-WRA. With some obvious minor exceptions, the installation is exactly the same. One gripe about install: Alpine decided to cheap out and not give you a replacement rubber grommet for the wire run to the rear swing gate. Since you have to cut that grommet to get the wire through, plan on having some silicon on hand to plug it back up. I wired into an i207-WRA that I was also installing at the time, which was very easy (direct connection, plug and play with the head unit.) Once I enabled it in the Settings, I was good to go - although some line adjustment is needed. Lines do not automatically curve when turning. I really like the camera placement - it fits right through the spokes of the spare tire. It allows you to remove the spare tire without having to remove the camera (but you must be careful as you can easily damage it if you (or a tire shop) are careless. Time will tell how durable it is. The picture is fine as far as rear cameras go - seems about average with other vehicle cameras. So far I'm happy with it.
Pros: Plug and Play to Alpine Restyle Head Units Install isn't terribly difficult Allows you to remove spare tire without removing camera
Cons: Doesn't include replacement rubber grommet, so you will need some silicon on hand Need to be careful about spare tire removal going forward Like all things Alpine, seems expensive for what it is (paying a premium for a metal bracket)
