Just an amazing upgrade for my 4Runner
Paul from Loveland, OH on 4/29/2025
2019 Toyota 4Runner
This is an amazing unit! It fits my 2019 Toyota 4Runner really well. It only slightly covers the top air vents. It introduces graphical TPMS features, as well as a host of digital gauges that show how the car is running. These gauges can be customized to display what you are interested in. Buy the upgraded harness kits!!! It makes life so much easier to install. No soldering or wire cuts at all.
Pros: Design, Features, Performance. Fantastic wireless Apple Car Play
Cons: Had to make a slight change to the Metra surround for the radio to fit. Just had to make the square hole a little larger by removing the flange.

Great addition to my system. The EQ adjustability and X over are awesome. The connection to the factory OBD2 is a nice feature. It even will tell you what engine code should you have a check engine light pop up and it will allow you to clear said code once fixed.

So much better than UConnect 5 - Game changing!
Rob from SoJo, Utah on 3/13/2025
2021 Chrysler Pacifica
Long story short, I have a 2021 Pacifica with an inferior version of UConnect 5 that drops Android Auto Bluetooth regularly and which has no USB connection option for Android Auto (verified by the dealer). It is mainly a family road trip car and we have a bunch planned this year, so it was time to upgrade. Looking over the options here on Crutchfield, it was steering me to JVC/Kenwood systems and actually says the Alpine Halo11 iLX-F511 "Doesn't fit in your Chrysler". While I now know why it says that, it certainly does fit and, in fact, if you watch the Maestro PAC1 install video, it actually shows this Alpine being installed. In the last 2 years, I have upgraded the OEM systems in a 2011 Ford Focus (minimal difficulty) and a 2016 Ford Fusion (fairly difficult because it had Sync 2) and used Alpine systems for both. Even though I had to RMA one of them, Alpine was great and I am a huge fan now. I also installed a Rockville SS8P 400w Underseat Subwoofer in each and did the same in the Pacifica. Normally $100, but I got the refurbished version this time for $70 and that is money well spent. I bought an open box iLX-F511, but since this site says it doesn't fit, you don't get any discounts on install hardware (even directly from support). That worked out because I was able to buy open box/used versions of the PAC1 kit and Maestro ADS-MRR elsewhere for way cheaper. With some other add-ons, I have all of the functions as before, but also consistent Bluetooth and KILLER so
Pros: - Alpine quality - Soooo many options. I particularly love the button in the lower left of that gorgeous screen that opens the map. - First time I have ran the Matrix Lobby Scene "bass test" in a vehicle - I back into a carport at home and UConnect would make an alarm sound during the whole backing process, no matter how slow I went. I love that I could opt out on the speaker with this setup. - Along with a 400w Subwoofer, the iLX-F511 makes the factory speakers sound twice as good a
Cons: - I wish that Alpine would move away from the complicated wiring requirement to be able to access settings while the car is in motion and kind of wonder if they don't somehow profit from the bypass option. - (Minor) While I don't love the power plate (which is required for the screen to work), I got pretty good at putting it in by touch during the testing/tweaking phase of install. - (Minor) I can adjust other clock settings, but setting the actual time requires having a GPS antenna connec

Not Satisified
Keith from Fredericksburg, VA on 3/10/2025
2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Before I start this is not a ding on Crutchfield in the least. I purchased the Alpine Halo iLX-F511 and installed it in a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. There are several issues with the radio itself, the "power bar" ( small piece of plastic) would look like it is not needed and could be tossed. Without this power bar the radio with display a splash screen and go off. It fits very loose and is a very poor design. In a jeep that rides rough the plastic piece vibrates loose and will need to be reseeded. Installing the radio in the dash of the jeep makes it near impossible to install the screws to hold the 11" screen to the base. Removing this each time to seat the power bar does not seem to be worth the time. Also with all the wiring harnesses it is not compatible with the factory microphone. An additional microphone comes with the unit but also seems to be poor quality as well. I am returning my radio.
Pros: nice big screen
Cons: difficult install in a jeep wrangler power bar is a poor design near impossible to install screws once connected to the base.

I purchased this unit for my 2019 Rav4. This year didn't come with android auto so I wanted something that was going to work in my car and looked factory. I called Crutchfield and was advised to purchase this alpine. I installed the unit with all of the extras, cost me a little over $1800. Well android auto stopped working intermittently so I called Crutchfield in February and was told to check updates and radio and phone all up to date. I called again and now Crutchfield can't do anything for me was told to call alpine. I bought this as a Christmas gift and was installed on December 22 here we are February 2 2025 and having issues, Crutchfield said they can only cover for 60 days and I am out by couple days. I used Crutchfield because it has been known to be a reputable store. I am disappointed with this alpine product. Now to battle it out with alpine. Beautiful radio but please be aware that this is a common issues for this unit.
Pros: Many amazing options
Cons: Android auto stopped working intermittently

I am loving the new Stereo, however please keep in mind when routing wires through your vehicle, extra caution should be taken especially around alarm/auto start systems. Something must have been bumped or rubbed - connection or something because now every 30-45mins my alarm keeps going off. I have scheduled to take it in to audio express to have it fixed as they are the ones who installed it. I am happy with everything I received and think it will be well worth the investment once I get my truck back to normal.
Pros: Plug and Play - Very convenient
Cons: None cant wait to use it!

Full Featured head unit
Christopher from Henderson, NV on 6/28/2024
2021 Toyota RAV4
It's only been in for a week but so far I am liking this head unit over the previous aftermarket one that was installed and the factory unit. Plenty of features built into this unit and once installed the setup was easy. For those looking to install this into a floating tablet form factor it may be easier to separate the screen from the base unit while running all the cables, this will make the screen final placement easier and you won't scratch up your dash. I deducted 1 star for Alpines directions especially when it comes to adding other Alpine accessories (dash cam). I also would have liked to seen the unit sit just a little bit further back in the dash since there is a small gap between the screen and the factory surround trim.
Pros: Lots of features, menu navigation is easy, great looks
Cons: Clarification on directions when adding other Alpine accessories and small tweaks to unit placement in dash.

Dan from Washoe Valley, NV on 4/27/2024

While the screen is clear and huge, it's hard to get past the incredibly poor design behind this unit. It is very difficult to install due to Alpine's choices with the attachment system (screen to chassis). It's almost like they intentionally designed it to punish you. Also, it requires a cheap plastic 'key' to work. It feels like it will disintegrate in about 10 minutes in the nevada sun, leaving you with a dead unit.

Buyer beware
Gary from Savannah, GA on 3/16/2024
2017 Ford F-150 XLT
Let me start by saying that the display and the sheer size of this head unit is great. I love the fact that it has high res audio playback, Android auto, as well as top notch crossovers and audio playback features. That being said, the software for this head unit is horrendous. Ever since I got this unit, I have had nothing but issues. Severe lag, missing features on some of the apps, occasional shutdowns, and ridiculous proprietary features like the cameras, make this a unit that I just can't recommend to others. Starting with the software. The Tidal app that's installed works horribly. If you set the app to run random, it works when you progress forward. However when you press backwards instead of going back to the beginning of the song it randomizes backwards. On top of that, most of the time there will be repeats of songs within 10 songs. This head unit supports Sirius XM 360 l, but as of yet, I have not been able to get that feature to work. Alpine has been useless as far as troubleshooting and Sirius XM can't figure out why it doesn't work. The other big manager aggravation with his head unit is the cameras are proprietary plugins to alpine. It only supports NTSC or Pal cameras, but does not support HD cameras. Especially if they are non-alpine. I can accept the fact that it's potentially just my radio, but regardless I can't recommend this radio to anybody until some of these issues are fixed.
Pros: Display, features
Cons: Software, software software. Did I mention software?

Been using this model for a little more than 6 months now and I'm impressed with how it performs. The clarity in direct sunlight is amazing and audio controls for an audiophile is pretty decent even for just the stock controls. What needs an update for a better experience is the wireless CarPlay. It will eventually become out of sync and/or very delayed. Was inoperable when using navigation. Also the I would like to exit calls from CarPlay while talking on the phone and access or features, but phone calls almost completely take over all options available (just like the previous models). If you have decent speakers, I would recommend installing a amplifier to take advantage of the all the sound control features. Overall, I really enjoy this model's update.

Fits great in my 2013 Tundra CrewMax Limited with the JBL factory system. With the recommended installation parts from Crutchfield, it looks amazing. Has more options and features than one would ever need. I did disconnect the factory amp and replaced the speakers and added a 4-channel and a mono amp. I cannot comment on how this unit interfaces with the stock system. It does work with my steering wheel controls with the addition of an idatalink Maestro.

Love the head unit. Only gripe is that you can't have Sirius XM 360L while having Apple car play/ Android Auto running. You have to switch to one or the other. Also if you want XM 360L you're going to need to have a hotspot device or hotspot capabilities on your cellular device.
Pros: Screen size and speed of software.

Great product for the most part. I love the large screen and bright clear display. Very easy to navigate. I have been installing car audio for years and this unit is amazing to say the least. I did message Crutchfield about a issue. There are 4 screws on the back of the screen that are used to adjust the height of the screen. I removed 1 screen pretty easy. The other three are locked in tight with one being stripped out. When stating this in my message, I was never offered a solution. Just told that it would be passed on and feel free to write a review. Well, here is the review and I still have an expensive head unit that I can't adjust the height on.
Pros: Most everything
Cons: Adjustment screws for height.

REALLY DISAPPOINTED IN CRUTCHFIELD CUSTOMER SUPPORT !!
Gary from CHOCTAW, OK on 6/17/2023

I really can't speak on the quality of the radio yet as I just received it. a few years ago I purchased a pioneer head unit for my 2014 Sequoia from Crutchfield, they did a great job supporting me. Ive purchased a few items over the years, but not a lot. I recently purchased the 11 inch Alpine head unit. the plan is to remove the Pioneer from the Sequoia and install it in my old Ford pickup truck. I called Crutchfield, told the lady my plans and she said I only need to purchase the radio and that I would unplug the old radio, re-flash the maestro ADR( for steering wheel controls) add the GPS antenna and mic and I would be good to go. I specifically asked if I would need a new harness, her answer was no. What she didnt tell me is that I would need to cut and re-splice the old harness since I didn't re-purchase gear (ADR Maestro, etc), I already owned. I called Crutchfield today and spoke with another agent who informed me of this. I understand all companies are in business to make money, but now I need to figure out a way forward. And oh, by the way, I'm red and green color blind which makes figuring our colors difficult.
Pros: Quick Shipping
Cons: Crutchfield doesn't provide all the information necessary to make a decision.

Matthew from Seattle on 11/15/2022
2011 Toyota RAV4
Fantastic screen and stereo all around. Very responsive to touch, vibrant colors that look great, and excellent audio quality with many eq options and several eq presets. The icons and user interface are beautiful. I like the lack of a volume knob because the screen looks sleek and clean (I have steering wheel controls for volume). There is no distortion in the screen image when there is loud bass playing or when I use other electronics in the car (headlights, reverse lights). I initially had some issue with wireless Apple Carplay connecting to my phone. I contacted Crutchfield customer support and they helped me install new software for the screen. Now the Apple Carplay connects to my phone automatically 95% of the time after 1-2 minutes of driving. If you need instant connection to Apple Carplay, use the USB cable. My only minor complaint is that the setup menu is not always accessible when the parking brake is on, however this is likely caused by the iDataLink Maestro Interface Module I installed with this screen that is supposed to be sending the parking brake signal to the screen. The lack of accessibility to the setup menu typically happens just after starting the vehicle, which is usually the time when you need to access the setup menu.
Pros:
Cons: Wireless Apple Carplay connectivity (fixable with software update)

The latest model changed how the hinge works. The screen hinge is shipped at a pretty extreme angle and must be attached and adjusted prior to adjusting vertical height. This is not covered in the instructions and added well over an hour to my install time. As an iPhone user I really wish alpine offered a native alexa app, I hate talking to Siri as I have Amazon Music and the integration in carplay stinks. Also, I wish Alpine would offer wireless firmware updates.
Pros: Looks great, better than stock. Feels nice.
Cons: Alpines instructions were poor, they need a video. No way to turn off SiriusXm button, and the slightest touch while swiping triggers an annoying error EVERY TIME. No wireless firmware update. No volume knob. No native alexa app. No native Navigation even though the device includes a gps unit.

Grant from Worcester, MA on 9/27/2022

Absolute monster of a head unit. I ended purchasing this to replace my broken radio that was out of warranty. I couldn't be happier with the quality. During installation the support from Crutchfield was second to none and I was able to get everything installed and hooked up with confidence.

Radio looks great , radio takes about 2-3 seconds to respond which Dosent sound long but could be better. Radio starts clipping when the volume goes last 25 could be better. Love the different gauges when using the OBD2
Pros: Size , obd2 gauges , equalizer is on point
Cons: Obd2 connector seems lose always , disconnects sometimes , reaction time to touch , blue tooth disconnects at times

Alpine did it again

I have been using Alpine car stereo equipment in my cars since 1978. Every time I upgrade I am truly impressed. No exception this time. To my surprise most reviews talk about the screen size. Yes, the screen is huge and clear but the sound is what counts and it simply amazing. The 13-band eq does a fabulous job. I have 4 Alpine door speakers, an Alpine amp and recently added subwoofers and the sound is like being at a concert. If you want an amazing system get this head unit along with good Alpine speakers and you'll be happy. Get an Alpine amp and you'll be happier.
Pros: The unit works as designed
Cons: Expensive

The alpine head unit is very nice. I have not had the chance to get it installed yet. It is more complex than any radio I have ever installed because of the maestro Rr & theRTO1. When I get it in I'm sure I will ?? it.

Nice Radio But
Kenneth from Evansville, IN on 6/5/2022

Love the radio but there is a really big issue with the unit itself. It seems that Alpine cannot figure out how to make the Apple CarPlay nor the OEM Satellite radio functions work. Once the issues are fixed maybe I'll log back in and do a full review. But as of now I only have 50% of a unit that I paid good money for. If anyone from Crutchfield wants to contact me please do.

Crutchfield stepped UP....2nd unit...AMAZING!!!!
Ray from Kershaw, SC on 5/27/2022
2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
SO I had initially purchased AND installed the Alpine ILX-F411. Loved this unit but wouldn't you know the ILX-F511 released 2 weeks later, SO I did what anyone would do and returned the 411 and paid the upgrade charge for the 511. Upon receiving the 511 and installing the "new hotness" I was immediately disappointed with the sound quality. Honestly the 411 sounded WAY better than this new radio. ALSO wireless Carplay wasn't working AT ALL!!!! A few days later Carplay miraculously starts working and worked fine for almost a month and a half. Then poof when apple release the 15.5 update Carplay not working again, not even with the cord connected. This was before I updated the iPhone. This point I am aggravated to the point of returning the unit for a different brand so I called Alpine again and they blamed Apple. I reached out to Crutchfield to see what if anything could be done. CRUTCHFIELD STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE BIG TIME AND EXCHANGED THE UNIT. I feel like I received a bad 511 unit to start with because, I just got it installed AND HOLY COW WHAT A DIFFERENCE. THIS WAS WHAT I WANTED!!!!!! Carplay instantly connected without hesitation, and the sound, the sweet sound that I was missing from the 411, but only better. Not just better...WAY BETTER!!! IF you are on the fence at all about this ILX-F511 don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed. 5 STARS on the ILX-F511 25 STARS on CRUTCHFIELD -5 STARS on ALPINE Tech Support
Pros: WIRELESS CARPLAY!!!!!! HD screen is massive
Cons: 1st unit I received was a bad unit

Carplay & HDMI DOA
Kevin from Greeley, CO on 5/26/2022
2007 Honda Ridgeline
The unit works perfect if I stream iver Bluetooth, but there is a known software issue that will not allow iPhones running ios 15.5 to connect to CarPlay wirelessly or wired. Also, I cannot mirror my phone via HDMI/apple lighting to HDMI adapter. It looks like scrambled cable from the 1990's. I've tried multiple HDMI cables, resets, different phones, etc. Until Alpine issues a software update or apple has a patch, this is just a Bluetooth speaker.
Pros: Bluetooth streaming works great!
Cons: Carplay and hdmi video are non functional
