Power for your whole system

Alpine makes it a little easier to get great sound in your vehicle, with their V-Power Series MRV-V500 amplifier. This 5-channel powerhouse can put out 40 watts RMS to four full-range speakers and up to 250 watts RMS to a subwoofer, and still fit into the tight spaces you find in many cars and trucks these days. You can also use this versatile amp in 3-channel mode, driving a pair of high-performance speakers with 120 watts each, while still sending 250 watts to a sub.

Thermal protection without annoying shut-downs

The MRV-V500 uses a technology called Enhanced Shutdown Performance, which rolls back the output a bit when the amp threatens to overheat from playing at its limits too long. Instead of shutting down completely, it continues playing your music, until it cools enough to return to full power.

Conveniences

High- and low-pass filters put you in command of the frequencies that reach your speakers, while a bass boost lets you apply some extra low-end punch to your subwoofer. The amp includes preamp- and speaker-level inputs, so you can install it in almost any vehicle, even one with a factory radio. If you're using the speaker-level inputs, the amp senses an incoming signal and turns itself on, eliminating the need to run a turn-on wire back to your vehicle's receiver or fuse box. If you're a tweaker, you'll appreciate the end-piece terminal covers that can be snapped in and out without the need for any tools.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Alpine MRV-V500 is part of the 4th generation of V-Power amplifiers. Class D digital amplifiers provide clean power, 80% efficiency, and reliable performance, all in a compact chassis. This 5-channel amplifier can power an entire sound system in your vehicle, including front and rear speakers and a subwoofer.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Alpine MRV-V500 is rated as follows:

  • Power Output:
    • 4Ω: 40 watts x 4 channels + 150 watts x 1 channel (<0.07% THD+N)
    • 2Ω: 60 watts x 4 channels + 250 watts x 1 channel (<0.09% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 81 dBA (1W into 4 ohms)

Bridgeable: Both the front and rear sections of the MRV-V500 are bridgeable, allowing the amplifier to be used as a 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel amp.

Speaker Level Input: A speaker level input harness is included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs. The 8-pin harness has inputs for front and rear speakers.

Auto Turn-on: If using the speaker level input, an automatic circuit turns the amplifier on when it senses an input signal.

Controls: The front, rear, and subwoofer sections of the amplifier (labeled CH 1/2, CH 3/4, and Sub W.) have independent gain and crossover controls. The subwoofer channel also adds a Bass EQ switch:

  • CH 1/2:
    • Gain: rotary dial; continuously variable from 200mV-4V using the preamp inputs or 500mV-10V using the speaker level inputs
    • High Pass Filter: On/Off
    • Crossover Frequency: rotary dial; variable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
  • CH 3/4:
    • Gain: rotary dial; continuously variable from 200mV-4V using the preamp inputs or 500mV-10V using the speaker level inputs
    • High Pass Filter: On/Off
    • Crossover Frequency: rotary dial; variable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
  • Sub W:
    • Gain: rotary dial; continuously variable from 200mV-4V using the preamp inputs or 500mV-10V using the speaker level inputs
    • Low Pass Filter: rotary dial; variable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz
    • Bass EQ: rotary dial; variable from 0-12dB; boost centered at 50 Hz

Connections:

  • Battery: set screw terminal; accepts up to 4 gauge wire
  • Remote: set screw terminal; accepts up to 8 gauge wire
  • GND (ground): set screw terminal; accepts up to 4 gauge wire
  • Speaker Outputs: 5 pairs of set screw terminals; accept up to 10 gauge wire
  • Line Inputs: 3 pairs of stereo RCA jacks
  • Speaker Level Input: Molex plug input for supplied 8-pin harness
Note: Alpine recommends 4 gauge power and ground wire (minimum).

Customer Q&A

Q
I want to run this as a five channel amp but I want my subwoofer to be removable so i can utilize my car's cargo space when needed. How can I wire this to have my subwoofer be safety removed while still having my four channels powered from this amp? The subwoofer in question is the JBL S2-1024SS.

It should be very simple to do what you wish. Mount the amp where you can access the speaker terminals then simply remove the sub wires when you remove the amp. If that is inconvenient, you can remove the wires at the sub but you must prevent a short by insulating the speaker leads. Shorting the leads may damage the amp.

Use "Quick Disconnect" adapters inline with your speaker wire... I used something similar in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler... I can't use links in my reply or I would point you in the right direction... I have the exact same amp and ended up going with the JL Audio 10W1v3-4 W1v3 Series 10" 4-ohm subwoofer... Was a great match! Hope this helps! Terrence

Yes! MRV-V500 is conservatively rated at 150W RMS x 1 into 4 ohms or 250W RMS x 1 into 2 ohms.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
