Absolutely phenomenal.
Guest from RED BANK, NJ on 7/25/2023
I have been running these speakers in my 88 bronco for the past 18 months. With each channel running off 70 watts from an old Planet Audio 4channel, and combined with a classic Pioneer BP running on 150 watts, the system leaves every passenger speechless when they hear their favorite songs in a new way. Moving my set into a 94 Explorer soon and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Great speakers. 10/10. Shame they're being discontinued.
Pros: Sounds great- very clear and balanced- gets loud if you give 'em the juice
Cons: Resistor crossover system

Bought the alpine s-s65c 6 1/2" speakers and for the price. They are okay. I also purchased kenwood kfc-p710ps 6 1/2 speakers for the same price. The kenwoods sound better. I'm no audio expert but for the same price I would recommend the kenwoods.
Pros: The tweeters look better than most other brands
Cons: No grills and don't sound as good as kendwoods in the same price range

Lackluster mids and too bright tweeters
joseph from HUNTINGTN BCH, CA on 5/3/2023
2014 Honda Civic EX
Reference: installed on 2015 Honda civic with a factory radio and an aftermarket amp. The tweeters were much to bright and loud, and the mid-woofers were too low. After installing an amp, I was able to compensate by turning up the gain on the mids, but still felt that the tweeters were much too bright and the mids were lacking range. I am going to keep the speakers because I already installed them, but next time I will choose a component speaker with an active crossover. Crutchfield was great. Speakers came quickly, even with the option for slower shipping.
Pros: -Crutchfield sent additional brackets and other connection pieces for free. -tweeters have a clear sound.
Cons: -tweeters have a clear sound, but are too bright. -mids underperform, even with an amp.

Nice speakers for the money
Reynaldo from Whiting, IN on 2/24/2023
2021 Subaru Forester
A nice noticeable improvement over the cheap stock speakers in my 21 Subaru Forrester sport. Installing the woofers in the doors was plug and play with the provided cables from Crutchfield. I shortened and connected the tweeter wires, crossovers and female plugs with eight crimp terminals. I was worried the stock 6 1/2 inch touchscreen head unit would not have enough power for these bigger magnets, luckily, that was not the case.
Pros: Vast improvement over the paper speakers, noticeably fuller range of sound.
Cons: The dash tweeters will require a 2" hole drill bit to mount to the supplied adapters and the supplied wiring cables did not have the proper male to female connectors on the wires, the female connector fit the factory male connector no problem. You might have to splice or crimp those provided cables together.

Far Surpasses the Alpine Coax!

I originally opted for the Alpine S-S65 Coaxials due to space constraints. I wound up returning them and making space for this amazing speaker combination. For me, it's the difference between having the great stereo sound of the coax version OR having the sound of being in the studio with the artist. In my opinion these component Alpines are that good! If you have the space go with these! Worth the additional 20 bucks or so
Pros: Super clean studio sound!
Cons: Space and extra install

Not plug 'n play
Richard from Camarillo, CA on 2/8/2023
2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
If you think it'll be plug and play, think again. The Metra harness that's included works with the woofers but not the tweeters. You'll need to buy the "male" portion of the connector to make it work. And don't depend on any detailed instructions from Crutchfield or Alpine, there aren't any. Otherwise, once you've made two or three trips to the hardware store the speakes sound OK.
Pros: Sound good for the price
Cons: Lack of detailed instructions and missing/wrong harness connections

Added this to a 2019 Kia optima. Put the tweeters in the sail panels cutting a 2" hole. They fit! Woofers were installed in the front doors. The Crutchfield supplied speaker adapters were not deep enough enough to match the OEM speakers. You want your woofers to be close to the inner door panel same as OEM set up.After some research I used Metra 82-7303 with RECOIL SPB65 Foldable Silicone 6.5" Car Speaker Baffle . Same depth as OEM speakers with a good seal. I am dissappointed in Crutchfield's Research. They were usually spot on. As for the sound, Good bass And excellent highs. It was worth the effort.

Pretty good, but the tweeters are too loud and a little shushy: shhh shhh . . . I think I have a pretty good ear as I'm a musician and have been into audio for decades with recording and mixing recordings. I've heard many high end systems home and car audio -not loud but good reference quality . . . The woofers are good and sound about what I expect but the tweeters . . . I was surprised/disappointed by the sound. I thought this setup would sound better than what I heard because of the reviews. I was suspecting it was the tweeter crossover and not the tweeters. They look like a good design. So instead of messing with the crossover, I just replaced the tweeters with some Rockford Fosgate R1T-S Prime 1". That made all the difference. The RF tweeters sound pretty good, but a tad too loud in the upper high end, not unpleasant at all, just a tad too loud. If it were my system, I'd attenuate them a tad, but for my girlfriend's car I left them were they were at, because I knew she'd be fine and I was just being a little picky. So after the tweeter upgrade the speakers sound great. I still think the tweeters that came with this setup are fine, but the crossover point needs to be higher. I think they were crossed over too low for these tweets. I think these would be fine if you just replaced the tweeter crossovers.
Pros: woofers sound good and have okay amount of bass.
Cons: Tweeters were shussy, and not pleasant. They need a different crossover.

Too Loud Tweeters
Ryan from Sandy, UT on 5/1/2022
The speakers sound nice and the tweeters are really clear but they are way too loud. This might be a good thing on a factory system without an amp, however with an amp the tweeters were way overpowering. I realized I needed to use a DSP to regulate the system because I don't have an EQ on my factory radio. In my opinion they would be better if they had an attenuation box like on the R-series. Don't get me wrong the speakers sound good but you need some kind of equalizer from an aftermarket radio or a DSP or the highs will overpower your system. I think if they included the -DB attenuation switch it might be a 5 star product.
Pros: Sounds nice and clear
Cons: Tweeters too loud/no attenuation box

Huge improvement over stock speakers!
Culla from Tucson, AZ on 4/5/2022
2016 Ford Escape
I replaced the stock (and blown) OEM front speakers in my 2016 Ford Escape SE with these. They are not listed on the Crutchfield website as a direct replacement for that vehicle, but they will fit - just require some extra work on the installer's part. The spacers Crutchfield sent worked great to get the proper install height once the OEM mounting bracket was removed and some new mounting holes were drilled. The tweeters required a bit more work, trimming the plastic OEM tweeter mounts and then hot gluing the new ones in place. The wiring pigtails Crutchfield sent for the woofers were helpful, but I had to cut the stock tweeter connector and splice in the new inline crossover. Once everything was back together, along with a lot of sound deadening on the inner door skins and door panels, the sound a is night and day improvement! Well worth the effort and expense.
Pros: Much improved sound, mid bass has more definition and highs are crystal clear.
Cons: Not a direct fit in a 2016 Ford Escape, wish there were tweeter adapters that didn't require cutting the stock connectors.

Speakers are great, instructions need adjusting.
Dan from Naperville, IL on 4/2/2022
2011 Acura TSX
Wanted to upgrade the front door speakers in my '21 Accord Hybrid EXL. I opted to just swap the woofers. Research, and my ears, told me the tweeters in the sail panels were actually pretty darn good quality, made by Foster (Fostex). The OEM woofers, OTOH, are plastic framed, flimsy coned trash, IMO. The supplied mounting bracket has an issue that Crutchfield isn't aware of. The woofers' mounting frame holes DO NOT MATCH UP with the hole in the top of the bracket. On the phone, an advisor stated I should attach the speaker to the bracket first, then install the bracket on the door. Well, it doesn't work that way. No matter how you turn it, there are no holes in the woofer frame that properly match up to the bracket to leave the single screw hole at the top of the bracket fully accessible. The bracket needs to be attached TO THE DOOR FIRST, then woofer mounted onto the bracket. Also the woofer will only sit flush in the installed bracket, and the odd shaped opening in the door, in one rotational orientation, and that is with the harness connectors at the top. The provided screws are also too long and will need to be cut after tapping them into the four holes you decide to use. Otherwise they'll bottom out against the door frame before tightening. HEY CRUTCHFIELD! There's a light inside both doors that isn't mentioned. Be careful with that one when removing the door panels. I highly recommend these. Sound is great with lossless source! Even XM (not the best) sounds good.
Pros: Great sound. Solid construction. Huge improvement.
Cons: Screws too long and need to be trimmed for the Accord install. Crutchfield adapter mounting hole doesn't match up with the speaker frame.

Nice...But oversized
Crutchfield customer from Henrico, VA on 1/6/2022
2008 Honda Pilot
I give these speakers a 5 of 5 for sound quality and clarity...however I give them a 1 of 5 for fit. The magnets are big and the speaker is a bit oversized...so making them fit could mean you have to cut. The silk tweeters truly provide a warm high and they are very clear. You cannot beat the plugs Crutchfield give you to connect the speaker to the factory wiring. The inline module between the mid-woofer and tweeter is awesome. Its small and don't have to worry to find a place to mount it. The tweeters are movable within the fixture for better aiming. After the initial frustration of them not fitting directly (even though they said they would) (2008 Honda Pilot), I'm very pleased with both the quality of the speaker and the sound quality. I just cannot wait to add an external amp to juice these speakers up
Pros: Sound quality....Warm and clear
Cons: Oversized and required more modification than the direction included specified.

I upgraded to these from my stock speakers in my 2018 Accord Sport. Instant improvement! I love how clear it sounds and it was very easy to install. I had to come up with a way to hold the tweeters in but that was fairly easy. Great sound.
Pros: Easy to Install Great Sound Fits with minor adjustments
Cons: No mounting adapters for tweeters Had to splice into factory wires

2006 Honda Ridgeline
Installed a complete system inc amp and subwoofer and had used MTX speakers all around in my first gen Ridgeline, I liked the upgrade over my factory system of course but after listening to it for about 2 weeks I felt like I still needed better speakers to realize the full potential so I ordered these Alpine components. OMG, what a difference. Between these Alpines and some Kicker coaxials in the rear doors, OMG!!!!! This system freaking screams. I rated the MTX's at 5 stars and for the $$$ they were fine, but these were not much more and they sound 10X better and my advice to anyone installing an amp is to not skimp on speakers/tweeters. For comparison, the MTX's were less expensive, these Alpine's were $140, so hardly worth worrying about if you ask me. Buy these, you won't regret it.

At the beginning I was a bit skeptical, trying to chose between all the products that Crutchfield has. Going one by one until I saw these Alpine S series. Best decision ever I mean the over all sound quality of my car is way better than I expected. If you looking for something with just the right price that it will definitely make your car sound better these ones are the to go to .
Pros: Amazing high and Low tones.
Cons: The bass is not super loud but with the right amplifier I'm sure it will handle pretty good.

Nice set for the money. These fit perfectly into the factory location in my CRV with only a slight alteration, but they have good reviews as well. I am running them off the stock deck and they scream just fine. If you're wondering, I also have 2 JL 10s in custom enclosures. I tried to make them identical but as you can see, they are not, but the sound is unreal so I am good. Also, the mids are even capped off which I thought was cool. For the price, I cannot imagine I could get a better option, especially when you get the speaker adapters and harnesses for free. Thanks Crutchfield.
Pros: As stated above.
Cons: Not really

It is possible to install the tweeters using the original 1999-2001 Camry tweeter speaker bracket and cover for a stock look. I drilled out the screw mounting the stock tweeter and had to slightly heat up the bracket to remove the stock tweeter. I then used the components supplied for the swivel flush mount adapters provided in the box with a few modifications. From the base I removed the spring and cut off the spring mount, then drilled a whole for a bolt to mount to the Toyota bracket. I then formed a circle from the scrap I cut off from a speaker baffle to fit into the base to replace the spring. Then trimmed off the lip and threads from the retainer ring and put everything together as shown on the back of the box for the swivel flush mount install in this order: Back plate, foam circle, tweeter with grill, then the trimmed retainer ring. Finally, I used some Fuzzy Fleece Interior Wire Loom Harness Tape for rattle prevention. This configuration allowed me to install the tweeter in the original location and maintained the stock speaker look. In addition, the foam acts like the spring and the tweeter still has the ability swivel for directional adjustment. Hope this helps anyone trying to maintain the stock look.

I minimized the treble eq setting on the Kenwood receiver but can't get them listenable. Ended up covering them with felt and duct tape to tone them down. I should have kept the stock speakers.

These Alpines are OK. They have great clarity but the bass is almost nonexistent. I ordered some speaker baffles to see if that might improve it. If it does I'll update this review. Volume level is lower than I expected. I know going to a higher ohm speaker I'm going to lose the volume what did you think it would be this much

Great Improvement Over My Stock Speakers!
Crutchfield customer from Savannah, GA on 8/16/2021
I last enjoyed an Alpine stereo speaker when driving a 1978 TransAm in 1987. It was amazing then and people fawned over the fact that you had said speakers in the Midwest America in the 1980s. I also knew the name Kenwood which is why I opted for their subwoofer as a companion. I'm nowhere near an expert but do love good sound and these were a definited improvement over my stock Bose speakers in my Escalade. If anything I'm now inspired to think of new ways to add more to the whole system!
Pros: Easy to install and while Bose was a beautiful system that came stock, this definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

Clean sound for your Bose

2014 GMC Acadia
I fretted over trying to "fix" a Bose system for days. I did so much research on the 2ohm / 4 ohm thing. People are really crazy about the 2 ohms. I still don't understand how half the power results in only -3db, but whatever. I figured if nothing else the tweeter would be a marginal improvement. I was wrong. These speakers are amazing. The sound is so clean I didn't even think they were working. This box comes with different adapters and parts. The tweeters do come out of all the various trims and you can pop the grill off. When removed they were only slightly larger dia than the factory speakers. I trimmed the a-pillar plastics and used some hot glue for a pro stealth install. Of course, Crutchfield provides everything else you need. The +/- connectors are foolproof with the harness clips. I did have to splice some wires for the tweeters to use the factory crossovers, but nobody will see the electrical tape. If you or your loved ones suffer from the Bose mid mud - make the swap, it's 100% worth it.

Sound is very solid and the quality of the speaker is quite nice. The kit provided all the components needed to make the speakers fit in an oversized hole in the door. The mounting height was also very low and did not interfere with installation.
Pros: Tweeter came with the correct high pass filter with long leads. This enabled many options for placing them inside the crowded dash.
Cons: Mounting the tweeter was a little more difficult as it did protrude more than expected. However, once the corner panel was installed and secured the fit was tight and there were no rattles

Major improvement over OEM . I did not have to fabricate any special bracket for the tweeter installation. David from Garner, NC on 2/22/2021
2012 Chevrolet Camaro
2012 Camaro Coupe w/o Boston acoustics & w/ factory stereo - The difference from factory speakers to these Alpine S Series components is insane, "night-and-day" difference. The speakers themselves feel high quality, the chassis are solid and there is some weight to the speakers due to the larger magnet than what comes on the factory speaker. Once installed, even with the factory stereo, the Clarity of music is absolutely noticeable. The highs are not sharp, just clear and precise. The bass is very clean, and vibrates my arm rest (factory speakers did not). These speakers seem like they cannot get loud enough, just keep turning the dial and you never lose the clarity and precision - simply put, they're very good! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to upgrade the factory speakers - will be adding Alpine Type R 6"x9"s to the rear deck along with a new Alpine stereo & amp....cannot wait to hear the improvement!
Pros: Solid design, easy to install w/ in-line crossovers. Sound clarity is amazing, and Bass is very clean - a massive upgrade over factory speakers even w/o a new stereo or amp. Crutchfield provides mounting brackets & wiring harness adapters to make the install as easy as possible. NOTE: save yourself some time and use hot glue, or some other method, to mount the tweeter to the factory housing....universal back straps are not the way to go, trust me haha
Cons: None. Couldn't be happier with my purchase

These are a fine addition to my 2005 Subaru Outback XT. Mounting in the front doors with the included adapter went very smooth. Sound quality from Alpine is something I have counted on for the last 30 years. These are a significant upgrade to 15 year old factory speakers. The midbass is firm and tight without being boomy. The tweeter delivers crisp highs that are a bit sharp, but I like that sound. These speakers are connected to two channels of a 4.100W Amp and sound amazing. This is the second pair the family has bought, first in my son's car and now mine. Alpine quality construction and sound.

I can finally get them louder than I feel comfortable and there is 0 distortion doing so. I'm about to install a sub, but for most songs these carry enough bass to think I already have one. (play Piece Of Your Heart by Meduza and I can feel it in my chest) They are much louder and bassier than the cheap MB's that I have in the rear and I'm extremely happy with them.

I ordered this and also the two-way model to replace the factory speakers in my 03 Highlander. Installation was a bit tricky on the front doors, but with the included hardware you won't miss! They sound great with my Pioneer unit and a Kappa 5ch amplifier!!
Pros: Excellent sound and clarity

Lacking in low end.
Shoua from CONNELLY SPG, NC on 6/29/2020
2005 Toyota Corolla
The speakers struggle playing frequencies lower than 100hz vs the other competitors. The speakers also lack volume. I felt like I always have to turn the volume up to get these speakers to shine. By lacking the low end, these sound hollow by itself. Of course, these are components so these speakers will only benefit if you have a good subwoofer that will make up for the non-existent bottom frequencies. In other words, make sure to pair these speakers with an amp and a subwoofer to balance the frequency ranges.
Pros: Clear.
Cons: Have to turn volume up to hear the speakers. Need to pair with an amp. Need a supporting bass source due to to these being component and it's more midrange nature. Mixed feelings about these speakers.

Tundra audio system upgrade
Crutchfield customer from Los Angeles, CA on 6/24/2020
2012 Toyota Tundra
Currently I am running these off the head unit, and they sound good. Once I add an amp, I think they will shine. The highs from the tweeters are crisp, I like the highs. The woofers sound good and deliver good bass, I am going to add a sub to round out the sound.
Pros: I am really happy with Crutchfield supplying the woofer adapters for the doors and the wiring harness adapters. I also like the way Crutchfield offers installation instructions as well as phone tech support. Great company service.
Cons: I wish they would have included the tweeter adapters, I ordered them from another retailer, made install very easy.

The new Alpine speakers sound nice...better than the Bose original speakers. But, my 5 star rating is for Crutchfield more so than the speakers. I had several "challenges" doing the change over. Crutchfield helped me with their tech support 4 or 5 times with the utmost patience, guidance, and care. I've never had such great service in my life; and I'm not exaggerating. I would recommend them to anyone interested in their products; and/or trying to take on a project themselves. If Crutchfield got me through this, they can probably get anyone through their project. My deepest thanks for the speakers...and more so, your great help!!

2009 Scion xB
I just purchased a 2009 Scion Xb and the stock speakers just weren't cutting it. Once I installed these Alpine S-S65C's it was a night and day difference. The highs are very clean and the mids sound amazing. And you can never go wrong with Crutchfields amazing customer service. They think ahead and not only send you everything you need to install, but also give you detailed instructions customized for your vehicle !!! And if you ever run into an issue they love to help over the phone... don't think twice about buying these speakers or getting them from Crutchfield !
Pros: sound amazing easy to install
