Pricey, but works as advertised

Install in a 2018 Camaro non-Bose system (off label). Allowed for control of vehicle chimes (seatbelt, door, turn signal), which were horribly loud prior to installing this. OEM connections to factory radio unit (passenger dash A post) were simple, RCA connections to the amplifier-inputs were super-easy. I did not use the remote to control my subwoofer, but you will need it to set your factory chimes. Route/secure it to your glovebox, in case you need to make changes to the unit later. Purchase a micro-USB to USB data cable (doesn't come with the unit), connect to the AmpPRO and route/secure to your glovebox, in case you need to access the unit with your laptop later. If you partake in this product for off label use, do your research. The YouTube link below was a huge help for my use/install. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhgWUylbQpY
Pros: Easy install Easy set-up
Cons: Micro USB to USB data cable not included

AP4 DOA, Crutchfield denied a replacement
Mdjorie from CA on 6/24/2025

I'm really disappointed in both Crutchfield and PAC, as well as the PAC Amp AP4. My car is now in limbo at the audio installer, and I am out another $500 for a second AP4, with the first one being a faulty unit. I had purchased the PAC Amp AP4 back in 2024, with the intent of finding a weekend to install it into my car. Time flew by, other priorities came and went, and eventually I gave up trying to find a weekend and chose to have a professional installer do the work. I gave them the brand-new-in-box AP4 and a host of other materials I accumulated with the intent of DIY-ing the job last week. The installer did an excellent job with the car, but could not get the AP4 to work. They called and troubleshooted with PAC, and it turned out to be a faulty AP4 unit. They let me know, and I contacted Crutchfield to see about a replacement. However, having been three weeks beyond the one-year warranty period, Crutchfield couldn't do anything about it aside from referring me to PAC. PAC was even more unhelpful, not having picked up my call after half an hour on hold. Crutchfield has been my go-to audio provider since 2013, and I've referred several friends and family members to the site, thinking that my friends/family will pay the Crutchfield premium for that extra peace of mind and quality of service. However, given my recent experience, I'm not sure I'll be recommending Crutchfield going forward.

Works great at the install and for about 3 months after. Soon it'll start working when you turn the key ignition on then when you start your vehicle it won't play any sound at all.
Pros: Works great
Cons: Buy this if you like spending this much every 2 years. For the same product to fail on you

Despite saying it won't work on my vehicle, it does and does it perfectly! For reference, my vehicle is a 2018 Regal Tour X, option codes are IO6, UQA, and does not have I30 (mid year refresh)
Pros: Flat signal with toslink output. Ability to turn chime volume down

It came very fast but for an almost $500 piece of equipment you wouldn't expect it to come with bent RC terminals. I'm a little disappointed but whatever.
Pros: It shipped really fast
Cons: Products aren't being inspected for imperfections as they leave their warehouse. I don't know what this is gonna do now.

Mostly does what it says

Easy enough to install and provided a clean optical line out to my DSP. My main issue was that the factory "minimum volume" setting. While sufficient for my amp, it made the chimes/notifications and Nav feedback way too loud. Setting it to a reasonable volume didn't provide enough gain to the amp. After messing with it and finding a sufficient volume/gain for the amps the nav feedback was still too loud. It also doesn't passthrough the car's chimes, it seems to listen for them then emulate poorly. Shorter ones either don't work or are too low to be heard like my turn signals which disappeared after the install. Also muting the stereo at the head unit for calls, etc would cause the Pac to stop outputting for 4-5 minutes after unmuting or ending a call. If you want a good line out and don't care all that much about retaining all factory functions it's fine. I wound up ditching it for a custom loop back harness and good DSP.
Pros: Clean line out to DSP/Amp. Easy install.
Cons: Output volume and gain out of sync. Does not emulate factory sounds/chimes well.

Works amazingly. I purchased this to replace a different interface that failed. This is less expensive than my previous interface and gave me the ability to adjust the volume of the chimes. Greatly simplifies adding aftermarket amplifier(s) to your newer vehicle.
Pros: Simplicity

Aaron from Richmond on 10/13/2020
First off, Crutchfield is phenomenal. I've been a customer for years and never have I experienced any hassle with returns or exchanges and the customer and tech support is solid. Now for the AmpPro GM61. I had high hopes for this expensive little box but my DIY install quickly became a nightmare because of this device. The first unit worked wonderfully for about 5 minutes and then all audio stopped. I figured it was my poor handiwork but there really is no way to connect this device incorrectly, save bad signal wires or loose pins in the harness. Crutchfield exchanged the first unit without hesitation. The second unit arrived very quickly but only worked for about 10 minutes. Stranger things started to happen including the RCA connections becoming hot to touch. As I'm not an electrical engineer I packed it in and took my car to a very reputable local Crutchfield certified installer. The owner noticed the hot RCAs right away and disconnected it immediately. I had to schedule an install so I was left with just my center speaker running off the stock amp. That center speaker is awful. The third AmpPro from my installer was working initially but now the audio intermittently cuts out. The temporary solution is to reset the device. Needless to say we are going to abandon the AmpPro in favor of another brand interface. Last gripe... I purchased the wiring harness to make connecting the stock amp a breeze. It wasn't. My installer found incorrect wiring and had to correct the harness.
Pros: Crutchfield's no hassle returns and solid tech support. Tech support stayed on the phone with me way past their advertised operating hours.
Cons: Wasted time and frustration due to multiple trips for troubleshooting and delays.

Just buy it!
Crutchfield customer from Santa Fe, NM on 5/11/2020
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I have a 2018 Silverado with Bose, and had tried 2 different hi/low converters off of the factory sub channel, one being a higher end one, to feed signal to my sub amp, and it always just sounded ok, but not great. I had been wanting to get the AmpPro for a while now, but it just seemed too much. Well, I finally broke down and bought it. Install took just a few minutes. Wow, what a difference! I didn't seem like much at first, but after having it installed for a few weeks, you can definitely tell that the subs just have a much better range, more full. They play deeper and louder than they ever had. And I can play my music at higher volumes without any distortion. I plan to do a full system upgrade to my truck, and if you plan on doing the same, you must start here. Do not skip this piece, it is a must if you want your stuff to sound right. I can't wait to upgrade the rest. I wish I had bought this right from the start, I missed out on a years worth of great sound!
Pros: Better sound. If you are trying to install aftermarket amps, and trying to run them off of hi/low converters, you are seriously limiting your sound. Keep in mind that the Bose system already has that "Bose" sound, which sucks. Any hi/low converter, no matter how good, is only going to amplify that Bose sound. This is NOT a hi/low converter, this adds a true 20hz-20,000hz pre-amp output section for your factory stereo!
Cons: Price... but overall worth it.

Nice product
Crutchfield customer from Chardon, OH on 8/31/2019
Install was straightforward and easy on an 18 Impala Premier w/Bose.
Pros: The included instructions were decent.
Cons: The supplied instruction sheet wire colors did not match all my speakers correct. I planned on using a tone generator anyways, it wasnt a huge deal. I wasnt going to use the rear shelf speakers, they played some sound. I unplugged the actual speakers. The center channel powered from the factory amp didn't match my other speakers and sound like an echo/reverb, I didn't use it

Yes and No on the products claims.
Crutchfield customer from Lafayette, LA on 6/10/2019
This product did do what it claimed, but it was not quite as seamless as I believe they inferred. It changed the sound of my chimes, to a much more mechanical, clicky sound, that I don't like. But it technically did do everything they said. It's just not what I would call "seamless".
