Great product that there was support for it
rob from MESA, AZ on 2/5/2025
This product might be a good product if they had the customer support the back it I've been waiting 2 weeks for them to contact me back with simple questions I had about this product and nobody from the company has gotten back to me I wouldn't buy anything Stinger pac or any products under that umbrella cause customer support is terrible
Pros: Don't know it stopped working
Cons: Can't get in contact with the company to figure out why it stopped working because they put you on hold for 30 minutes and then you're so tired of being on hold for 30 minutes you up for a call back and nobody ever calls you back pretty crappy company remember stinger pack and everything under that umbrella

Great unit, poor programming instructions
Calvin from Mccomb, OH on 1/12/2024
2003 Volkswagen Passat
Out of the box with the default settings it worked perfectly. I wanted to program it a different way to use both long and short press buttons but the instructions were very vague and I gave up. I'm sure if I had called Crutchfield's tech support they would have got me through it but I decided it wasn't really worth it.
Pros: Works great in default program
Cons: Could not figure out how to make additional programming with the instructions included.

This think rocks, it really made the install nice to keep the steering wheel controls intact. This was especially important due to the new head unit not having a physical volume knob anymore. Keeping the volume etc on the wheel was critical.

Wiring harness for Boss radio and back up camera
Steve from FAIRFIELD, CT on 10/16/2022
2015 Volkswagen Jetta
I bought this and paid for Crutchfield to pre-assemble the antenna and new back up camera bundles with this and it is awesome! This was a seamless plug and play with the Boss BE7ACP radio. I only had to strip and install a ground wire in the trunk for the back up camera as well as the constant power at the radio for the camera. Everything was labeled and plugged together like it was OEM. No programming and everything worked from the start including steering wheel controls. Couldn't have asked for anything easier.

Does its job well enough
Nathan from WICHITA, KS on 9/28/2022
2013 Volkswagen Passat
Works like you would expect in my 2013 VW Passat SEL but I would've like to retain some of the audio information in my gauge cluster display. Steering wheel controls all work as would be expected. My biggest concern is that when contacting the red and white(parking brake signal) form the wiring interface to the yellow and blue (parking brake safety) from my Alpine head unit, it wouldn't work. I called Crutchfield and a nice lady told me to connect the yellow and blue from the head unit directly to a brown and yellow wire going into the parking brake switch itself. Accessing this switch is easy enough with one torx screw and the whole side of the center console comes off.

Allan from Bonners Ferry, ID on 8/5/2022
2003 Volkswagen Jetta
This is the best interface I have come across for VW. Works perfectly with my 2003 Jetta and my 2005 Passat. Instructions were complete and precise. All of the wires are color coded to connect to the new stereo's wire harness. The interface just plugs into the car's wiring harness, no need to cut wires and resplice. I fried 2 others before I came across this one. It is one of the main reason's I purchased my stereo from Crutchfields, that and the promised support if required (which I never required). This interface can be re-programed to expand the functionality of the steering wheel controls if desired. I never bothered, I was just happy the SWC worked just like OEM.

Took away most of the guess work installing an aftermarket radio in my 2012 passat. Installation is not very hard if you're somewhat handy with electrical stuff. For the price, this could be better. I was under the impression all my steering wheel controls would work when in fact this harness only keeps the volume and voice command buttons operational. Also, for the price tag, I also thought the display in the instrument cluster would still work and it does not. I am not sure I would spend this much again just to have volume adjustment on my steering wheel.

Retains factory steering wheel controls
Ryan from Port Orchard, WA on 5/5/2020
2008 Volkswagen R32
Paired with a Sony XAV-AX1000. Install is straight forward with provided documents. Steering wheel controls work but one issue with arrows (up/down) change the radio station and the information display for the car (i.e. to view Live MPG, Average MPG, Distance remaining, etc..) -- a minor inconvenience. The buttons can be custom programmed but have not tried that yet. If you don't like dealing with pairing wires I would suggest having the harnesses pre-paired -- this took me around 30-40 minutes.
Pros: Steering wheel controls for volume work which is what I was after.
Cons: With basic setup the arrow buttons on my steering wheel change the radio station AND the driver information center display. This only happen with Radio stations and not while playing from my iPhone which is strange.

It's a steering wheel control (SWC) that works fine for my 2006 VW GTI MKV. The one I received was one firmware update behind the latest version. Unfortunately, firmware updates require the purchase of an additional $40-$50 dongle and connection to a Windows PC to apply the update.
Pros: Integrates steering wheel controls on my 2006 VW GTI MKV. Default SWC values for radio brand selected work well. Can utilize short and long presses for each button to control two functions. Periodic firmware updates available.
Cons: Firmware updates require purchase of another $40-$50 dongle and connection to a Windoze PC.

Adapter works OK and basic connections for power and ground all work as they should. My only disappointment is that in my application (a Red screen 2007 Passat), only the steering wheel controls for volume work properly. Although the track up/down arrows do control the head unit, they also control the screen in the cluster at the same time (scrolling through your mpgs etc when you don't want to, or changing the track when you want to check your mpgs). You can un-program it, but that means you still spent more money just to be able to control volume only. Although the description of the product does tell you this, it is somewhat hidden in the details page among a lot of other information. It would have been nice to have it tell me this limitation on the screen where it asks if you want the basic or the upgraded interface. The information is in the details screen, and I entered my car info, so the ordering system should be able to combine the two and give buyers these details more obviously before they purchase and are surprised and disappointed after the fact.

PAC RP4-VW11 Wiring Interface
BryanG from Texas on 1/18/2016
2011 Volkswagen Jetta
I've only had this hooked up a few days but so far it's working well enough. There wasn't a ton of information in the manual, but I was able to follow a few different online videos on installation to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. My SWC maybe don't operate correctly 100% of the time but it's still effective (I may hit volume up 5x and it goes up 3 type thing). Another review on a 2011 Jetta explained that the phone button in the steering wheel won't work but he also talks about how the PAC can be reprogrammed to work with your buttons. I have no idea how that works. Maybe ask that guy.
Pros: Steering Wheel Controls mostly work. Installation is reasonable.
Cons: I believe it's made for multiple vehicle manufacturers so it's not 100% perfect on the VW Jetta.

Middle of the road

So far this unit did what I needed. The steering wheel volume and phone buttons work fine. Although I was able to complete the installation on the first try with no errors, the instructions left much to be desired. The "schematic" in the instructions was useless. The instruction sheet says the Retained Accessory Power would work, but it doesn't. I contacted the company and they said this was a cut and paste error in the instructions. My car doesn't have an accessory position for the ignition. If I ever need to do a firmware update on the head unit, I'll have to do it with the car running. According to Kenwood a firmware update can take 30 minutes. In that time the headlights might drain the battery since they would be on with the ignition switch in the on position. From time to time the volume at the head unit is louder than where I left it when I start the car. Maybe it is a problem with the head unit, but I doubt it. If these limitations aren't a concern to you then this accessory would be worth buying. For me I think MAYBE it wasn't worth it.
Pros: The volume and phone buttons work.
Cons: Poor installation instructions No Retained Accessory Power despite claim in the instruction sheet Possible bogus volume setting when the car is started

Requiring this option to retain controls from a factory perspective should include details as to what each connection is for. The instructions sent are basic gives you high level descirptions but detail oriented people such as myself would have a much easier time following the instructions if more details were included.
Pros: Retains factory functions
Cons: No detailed instructions, what is sent may make sense to someone who installs these daily but for the one time installer, mass confusion for connecting to a different harness and in vehicle.

Terrible quality control
Liam from California on 12/9/2014
2004 Volkswagen Jetta
I would give .0000001 Stars. two of these were shipped to me and both were bad before I ever got them. There seems to be a lack of quality control. It has taken more than a month and the stereo I bought is still not in and working due to the failure of this simple part. After being assured repeatedly that I needed this item, the tech after several phone calls tells me there is a much less expensive and better suited modle for my car. I never needed steering controls because my car does not have them. What a waste of time.!
Pros: DOn't know any , never got a working model.
Cons: No Quality control . The tech admitted they do not test them before sending them out. They really may not be necessary for your car, it seems like a scam to get more of your money. I doubt they will ever print this review.

Great Fit...However, an easy fix for VW should be included
Ches from Phoenix, AZ on 11/25/2014
2004 Volkswagen Jetta
Excellent product. Wire to wire hookup is a breeze. However, you have to attach the power antenna wire even if you do not have a power antenna in your VW. This will serve as your AM antenna. I did not know that so I had it all done and I switched it over to AM to listen to a game. Just static. I called customer service. To Crutchfield's credit, they answered the phone immediately and answered it clearly and I was able to correct the mistake. But what gets me is that the customer service rep says he gets this call all of the time. Well, if numberous customers make this mistake (and it is an easy one to make, I don't have a power antenna so I do not connect those wires), include something in the directions. You know the make, model, and year of the vehicle. When the order is placed and the directions are printed, at a page for the VW power antenna being the AM radio booster. One sentence...happier customers.
Pros: color coding makes it easy
Cons: Power antenna means AM radio booster in VW.

Perfect Fit...but
colnago888 from White Rock, BC on 11/11/2014
This was a recommended harness which is supposed to work perfectly with your existing VW MKV electronics including the steering wheel controls (SWC). Minimalist in design and fairly easy to use. The module which has switches depending on the make/model of the stereo works with just about every model out there. First impression with my first install is good as I have not re-programmed any of my SWC. There are instructions with the RP4, but it is for experienced installers and not the average DIY person. Again, Crutchfield Tech Support is there to help out if you need them. Not sure how this compares with the others (ENFIG, etc).
Pros: Simple and minimalist in design. Instruction manual is nice and concise, not too overwhelming. Make sure you use the Crutchfield Tech Support before putting the unit back in, or you may need to remove the stereo and face plate if you need to reprogram (like I did).
Cons: Instruction manual not for the faint of heart. Splicing instructions are fine, but re-programming is a nightmare, at least for me. Call Crutchfield Tech support and enjoy the rest of your day.

Wow!!!! This was the best interface I could ever had bought. Before looking in to this I was told that if I wanted a new head unit I would have to swap out my stock amp and speakers. Well this gem will allow you to keep everything and if you have radio controls then you can keep those too!
Pros: Awesome! It just works and was easy to install.
Cons: Took me some time to. Figure out how to. Connect the power to the antenna as the same wire its also used as the amp remote. After doing some research and reviewing my installation I had to splice and connect the wires three way. I expected better instructions.

I am new to car audio wiring and was able to successfully connect the PAC RP4-VW11 to my Alpine radio harness. There are wires marked for Navigation in a taped bundle that had to be used to make my radio work with my 2010 VW Jetta. If you are not sure which wires, I suggest contacting Crutchfield support like I did and they walked me right through my wiring questions. darren from redwood city, ca on 10/12/2014
2003 Volkswagen Passat
I either spent too much time or not enough reading the VW forums on replacing my Monsoon head unit. I got this with my new Sony head unit thinking it would all plugin together and allow me to use the existing factory harness. Which is does - kind of - but you still have to strip, solder, and heat shrink tube wires to install a new head unit. 4 stars for allowing me to retain accessory power and not have to rip out old factory amp, etc. Minus 1 star for wishing there had been better product description. I would buy it again.
Pros: Allows you to replace VW factory head unit without too much hassle
Cons: You still have to solder (or crimp) wires and tape/heat shrink them to install it.

PAC RP4-VW11 Wiring Interface
Crutchfield customer from Albany, NY on 8/29/2014
2003 Volkswagen Jetta
The wiring interface is critical to installing an aftermarket radio in a VW. The interface eventually worked like a charm, but I had significant difficulties getting the wires to properly set within the harness itself. The unit would sometimes turn on, and sometimes would not power on. After many aggravating attempts to fix the problem (along with many calls to Crutchfield- who were great), I gave up and took it to a local shop. They had to re-seat some of the wires within the harness, and then the unit worked great again. So the sum of it is- the interface works great if it works. If it doesnt, it leads to endless aggravation and a waste of time (and money, if you give up like I did).

Very good interface
Hal J from Tuscaloosa, AL on 8/21/2014

Paired this with a Kenwood receiver in my daughter's Jetta. Install was easy and it works great. It has the ability to program some features in order to assign 2 functions to each button of the steering wheel controls (short touch and touch and hotd). Also, on her particular vehicle with a multi function display (MFD) there is a slight issue in that cycling between the pages of the MFD also skips tracks (iPhone, Pandora) or preset stations (FM, AM, SAT). This can be avoided by removing the program function for the steering buttons to change the track, or preset.
Pros: Easy install, good value.

Excellent Adapter

I purchased this because I needed to keep the existing Monsoon amplifier, and wanted to keep the controls on the steering wheel. Everything worked, except in a 2001 Jetta I needed to provide switched power to the radio. It's unfortunate they figured out all of the CAN bus stuff for the steering wheel, but not the VW specific key power issue. Not difficult to rectify, so still gets 4 stars, I just ran a fused connection to the radio bypassing the harness connector.
Pros: Relatively simple installation Steering wheel controls were maintained Factory Amplifer turns off when instructed
Cons: No switched power built into the adapter.

2005 Volkswagen Jetta
2005 VW Jetta: I didn't realize it when I bought it but this adapter isn't just for the steering wheel controls. It also provides the wiring to connect your head unit's speaker and power wires to the factory harness. In other words, I didn't have to do any soldering or crimping in the car. I just soldered the new head unit's wires to the PAC adapter's wires in the comfort of my work bench. Installing the head unit in the car was literally plug n play. The VW Jetta doesn't have an accessory or switched power wire so it was great that PAC's adapter provided one. It's only rated for 1 amp but it was enough for my Pioneer deck. The only downside is that the PAC adapter does take up some room, so you will have to be careful to move things around so there is room behind the deck when you slide it back into the dash. Oh, and the steering wheel controls work perfectly with my Pioneer, too. I thought $79 was pretty expensive but it did save me time, make the install very easy, and allowed me to continue to use my steering wheel's stereo controls. So, in retrospect, I'd definitely buy it again.
Pros: Makes installation very, very easy. Steering wheel controls are usable!
Cons: A bit bulky, requiring careful arrangement of where the PAC adapter fits behind the dash.

Works reasonably well in 2011Jetta
Paul from New Hampshire on 4/17/2014
2011 Volkswagen Jetta
This product allowed me to retain my 2011 VW Jetta SWC with my new Kenwood head unit. The instructions were adequate for me to get things going the first time, but I have quite a bit of experience with electronics and this type of installs, so your mileage may vary. The unit came with everything I needed to connect the Kenwood harness to the VW connector in the dash. The default program supported basic volume, next/previous track and radio station switching, but not the phone control. When changing my VW Multifunction Display mode from MPG to Time or speed display the head unit changes folder when in the USB mode which is not desirable in the least. The PAC device is made for many car models so I can expect there to be some imperfections out-of-the-box. Luckily PAC foresaw this problem and allows you to reprogram each button to a specific function. If you want to retain all SWC functionality, and want to avoid weird things happening when you press buttons, you may want to reprogram the unit, so plan on it before you close everything up like I did. Overall, I'm happy with the PAC unit and would recommend it to VW Jetta owners.
Pros: Flexible programming interface that allows custom configurations to suit specific needs. Comes with everything needed for installation. Works well.
Cons: Instruction manual may not provide enough information for inexperienced installers.

Easy plug and play. I don't have a Steering wheel control so I cant say anything about that. I have a 2003 VW Jetta with the Monsoon system. I have always read about people car battery draining after a new head unit install. That's because the monsoon factory amp doesn't have a remote turn on wire. I uses a low voltage signal from speaker wire. But for the amp to turn off it needs to ground out. That's where this device comes in. no dead battery.

Pros: Does everything it is supposed to do. Installation requires attention to detail. Take care of the easy ones (speakers, power, antenna, etc.), and the hard ones (remote, illumination, and the blue wires) become easy too!
Cons: To paraphrase Sherlock Holmes, "eliminate the impossible and the results, no matter how improbable, must be the truth". There are connections that are easy (simple color matches). Tackle those first. The remaining connections may be on the Navigation trunk or those pesky blue cords (remote, antenna, etc.). Also, if you use butt connectors and heat guns, you run the risk of melting the unit. I did, but it still works. Lastly, as others pointed out, there is a lot of bulk behind the HU!

Dave from E WVa on 7/26/2013

It's a shame that some factory stereos require a 3rd-party addon like this in order to use an aftermarket stereo. Once you start accepting that, this device works as advertised. As a bonus, it lets you keep your steering wheel audio controls (if your car has them). And it DOES work in a VW Jetta, at least the Mk4 series with the Monsoon system.
Pros: Does exactly what it says on the box. Has all the documentation for getting it to work with all major aftermarket brands.
Cons: Bulky; had to cut some supports out of the dashboard in order to make room for everything. Not crazy about the price either, but at least Crutchfield gives you a big discount if you buy this with the radio.

Pros: all-in-one for my MK6 VW Jetta clear instructions includes SWC programmable

Gave it only three stars because some of the functions won't work correctly. Spent a long time with Crutchfield support. The steering wheel buttons work and nice having use of the "phone" button on the wheel. It is not putting out the P-brake signal, reciever shows it the brake being "on" all the time. It makes 1/3 of the Alpines features useless untill the car is driven a ways. Need to run the reciever's P-brake wire directly to the PB switch itself. Wished it had a foot brake wire coming out of the box too, but would it work correctly?
