I just installed these in my 2002 f150 replacing a set of Memphis sound 2 way speakers. The sound is like night and day. These speakers were easy to install after I replaced the ends on the wiring harness with included clamp on ends. I'm extremely happy with these speakers and crutchfield's service.
Pros: Easy to install, great sound, reasonable price
Cons: Wiring harness connectors had to be modified to fit

They do not break the bank and for what they are enhanced quite a bit the OEM audiophile optioned 2004 focus. Now with the kicker 10 inch subwoofer and these on the doors and the OEM mid ranges it is a nice experience to ride around on the little car.
Pros: Great quality for the price.
Cons: The OEM adapters had to be modified for them to fit, it is not a 100% plug and play. Even though is pretty close.

I bought these for an upgrade in a 2013 F-150. I bought 2 sets to replace the front and rear after I upgraded the head unit last year. The sound is amazing. The bass is the only thing that surprised me. It's not as good as I had expected. About the same as the factory speakers. But the sound is much louder and crisper. Overall, it is a very good purchase for the money! The hardware that came with it had to be modified since the factory adapters do not fit the speaker tabs. But the butt connectors are included. Would be nice if it was true plug and play.
Pros:
Cons: Less than ideal quality of connectors from Crutchfield.

2004 Ford Escape
2004 Ford Escape, the fit is perfect in the factory spots, and the free factory connectors were great but I had to change the blade ends for these speakers per the speaker ends were too big...still a good sign for a good speaker with a solid connection. The sound is amazing compared to the factory speakers, the construction is very solid with a heavy basket, rubber surround, large magnet but still fit depth-wise in the doors. The sound is crisp as well as great bass...volume is high enough to hurt ears before distortion happens. I highly recommend these speakers and would buy again. I had bought from Crutchfield about 25 years ago when I used to compete in IASCA. I've been out of the game for a while, but the service from Crutchfield is amazing and price so far has been on point with others. Highly recommend them!!
Pros: Solid construction, good bass, minimal distortion, longstanding brand.
Cons: Not much!

Speakers work great, arrived quicker than I expected. They sound better than the stock speakers in my 2013 F150 lariat. Only minor complaint is the wiring harness that was suggested wasn't an exact plug and play. No big deal, they included a multi pack of terminal connectors, so I had to cut the existing ones off and crimp the new ones on. No issue since I have crimpers. But a pair of pliers would also work in a pinch(no pun intended)

I put 3 stars because for about a year, they sounded great and my dad loved the system upgrade I got him for his birthday but right around a year later one of the speakers just stopped working. Thought maybe it was the jumper harness but I hooked up the speaker outside of the truck and nothing, put the oem speaker back in and everything worked fine. I use to work for a audio store and installed radios for a living and my dad actually worked at the same location but for a different owner about 2 decades before me. We both know enough to troubleshoot problems but this speaker never got wet and my dads a old man, he cant blast music like us youngens so it isnt like the shit got blown out, I think possibly the solders inside were probably poor and over a year opening and shutting the driver door it must of broke inside.
Pros: awesome while they lasted
Cons: just didnt last very long

Alexander from Calais,ME on 9/3/2023

Crutchfield, more like Clutchfield because you guys always come in clutch including the right stuff. This is my 3rd vehicle adding speakers to and once again it was super easy. The Older Rangers have very easy to remove door cards and I was able to reuse screws from old speakers. Using the included blue connectors you have to get some wire strippers and cut the old ends off the included adapters but I totally don't mind this step because it means the factory wires aren't cut or altered in any way. I've had the RF Primes 6x9s in a Dodge Caliber, still have a Pt Crusier with Prime component 6.5s and really like both alot. The component set up sounds better but the PT has 2 extra speakers the Caliber doesn't. So far I am very pleased with the sounds of the Punch series , the Ranger still has a Oem radio and has nice audio separation compared to those old stock units that only sounded good with talk radio.
Pros: Powerful, excellent audio seperation, strong bass even with Oem radio, fits perfectly
Cons: The only thing that would make these better is if Rockford-Fosgate offered these 6x8 speakers as a component speaker kit like the 6.5s I have in the Pt. This is just more of a wish than a con

The positive and negative connectors from the adapter were way too small to connect to the speaker so I had to get new connectors just to get them to work. They sounded okay for like the first month or so then they started going in and out. I have tested and checked the connection and I can't find any issue there so maybe its just the speaker. I am so frustrated trying to keep them atleast working that I will probably be replacing them soon and go back to Jbl clubs like I've used on all my other vehicles.

The speakers sound pretty good when they work. I had ordered a pair to replace the front speakers in my 2012 F-150, and the install went great. The speakers initially sounded really good, but then one of them began to fail after a few weeks of having them in. Truthfully I listen to podcasts most of the time, so they weren't blown. I just had a faulty speaker, and Crutchfield did send me a replacement. However, now the replacement speakers are failing too, and I am out of luck and need to find a new set because my window of returning them is closed.

Pros: Inexpensive, great sound, can handle a small amp If desired

Lacks Low End
Paul from Ashford, AL on 5/31/2022
2014 Ford F-150 XLT
Expected a little more considering all the reviews raving on these speakers. The mids and highs are fine but the lack of a low end will need sub to make up... 3-way, not so much. Used the Metra 72-5601 connectors so the polarity issue on the 72-5600 isn't a factor. The cheap factory speakers actually have a much better bass. 2014 F150.

Awesome got these to replace crappy Kicker CS series in my F150 I an running them off a Rockford punch 50x4 and sound amazing the highs are crisp but not overly harsh and the midrange is pretty decent. Can't say anything about the lows bc I am running a punch powered stage 3 sub in back for bass.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Wish I could get just a bit more volume out of them and I'm running them off a Punch 50wx4 amplifier

I purchased 2 sets of these for my 2007 F150 back in Aug, 2018. They didn't make it to the 3 year mark before one from each set blew, I listen to my music loud and thought Rockford Fosgate could handle it. Mainly used them for mids as I have a 10 inch subwoofer for the low bass. Can't say I can recommend these speakers.
Pros: Sounded great for a little while
Cons: Can't handle the music too loud

2001 Ford F-150
I'm not sure if Fosgate had a bad run of components or what, but I received 4 1683's that were bad out of the box. Could not turn the volume up past midway before they started to breakdown and crackle like a CB radio. One of the 4 was barely firing at all. Verified all wiring, all was correct. Replaced the stock speakers and all played well. the ONLY variable in the equation was the 4 new speakers. Buyer beware, looks like a quality control issue. Crutchfield issued an R/A without delay. Good customer service.
Pros: None
Cons: All 4 were defective out of the box

Great affordable 3-way speakers
Crutchfield customer from Easley, SC on 9/9/2021
These speakers are a serious upgrade to my old 2-way Kenwoods. The bass response is very good with nothing but an after-market JVC unit. They were super easy to install. The only thing that was a tad tricky was that the connectors on the back of the speakers were a little bigger than the female ends of the wiring harness. Had to use some of the adapters that were supplied by my adviser.

My Rx8 has a very loud exhaust that drowned out the stock stereo and speakers so I decided to install a new stereo and speakers as well as a front and rear camera. This was my first stereo and speaker install. Crutchfield made it easy to find speakers that fit my car and supplied the the factory speaker connectors for free. The Rockford Fosgate P1683 sound great in the doors paired with the Rockford Fosgate P1692 in the rear. Now the speakers more than drown out the loud exhaust of the car, which I also like to hear, but at least I have options now. Crutchfield had great customer service and I would definitely recommend them.

The Rockford P1683 car speakers gave new life to my factory sound system (2011 Ford Escape). The 3-way sound range brings a forgotten brilliance to my favorite tunes. The speaker materials are resistant to moisture and have held up in my previous Escape. The factory speakers just decay & degrade. I keep buying these and loving them.
Pros: Brilliant sound. Rugged, easy to install, good instructions from Crutchfield.
Cons: We all dislike taking off our door panels to install, but it's well worth it.

I first upgraded the 4 door speakers on my 2013 F-150 XLT with these Rockford speakers. Best way I can put it is night and day when compared to factory speakers. I the paired it with a 5 channel Rockford AMP and man it just kept getting better. Clean crisp sound. I could hear sounds I wasnt able to hear before. To top it all off, I added a Kenwood Excelon stereo and now I take the long way home to be able to enjoy the new system. Next step will be to add tweeters to get that full range of sound. Great speakers if you want to really enjoy your music.

Rockin with a Sony B700 in my Reg Cab F150
j. from Riverview, FL on 5/13/2020
2005 Ford F-150
Exceeded my expectations even though it was pretty high having used Rockford fosgate in the past. Sound is real nice paired with new Sony B700 head unit in my 05 F150. Turn it up to 30 and the woofer really starts hitting nice in the doors. Listen to a variety of music I think this is a speaker that can do it all as long as you have realistic expectations for a door speaker of this type and size. I can't detect any distortion at reasonable high volumes. 4 ohm. So I did need to trim some of the mounting bracket to fit in the door. I utilized wire cutters and a Dremel to sand it. Tin snips would have been a better choice. Not too much trouble. Each speaker has 6 mounting holes and you only need the 4 so it is still an exact fit minus trimming the 2 extra off. I think JBL is a better choice for instrumental rock/vocals and Fosgate is geared more to pop, rap, r&b,and heavy rock. This setup is perfect for what I need and I don't see the need to touch the back speakers either gonna leave those stock. I would advise replacing the head unit with something equally powerful as my Sony to make the most of the speakers. Not sure why some people have given it a poor review I can't see anything I would change about it.
Pros: Price Bass Versatility
Cons: Minor trimming

Good speakers, not good fit mechanically or electrically.
Brian from COMPTON, CA on 5/11/2020
1996 Ford Bronco
They sound good, but they were not a really "clean" fit into my 1996 Bronco, note that two of the mounting holes have larger "ears", these interfere with a good seating, and I had to drill. Also, the tabs that the speaker wires clip into are a strange size, and NONE of the hardware suggested by the automated system actually fit these. I ended up having to make custom cables to fit these.
Pros: Sound good
Cons: Don't fit.

Pros: Sounds great, notable improvement.
Cons: I wasn't comfortable with the fit of the included wiring harness clips for the speaker. They seemed a little loose. I didn't want to have to remove the door panels because the clips popped off on a bumpy road, or getting pops and clicks because of a poor connection. I ended up just soldering the wires to the speakers.

Great full range speaker
Guest from Smyrna, TN on 3/10/2020
2016 Ford Expedition
The speakers work and sound great, however they are not a direct fit and the wiring harness doesn't work either. The harness mounts perfectly to the ford speaker harness But the connectors are too small for the tabs on the RF P1683, requiring a hardwire connection. As for the speaker themselves, in the photo you can see an extension of the tabs on the left (where you can see two holes side by side). To fit the rear speaker well in the Ford expedition these must be cut off with a dremel or some other tool. After that it drops in perfectly. Rating 4 out of 5 stars because Crutchfield rates this as a direct fit.
Pros: Sounds great Good range with no distortion.
Cons: Requires modification to speaker housing to fit Factory fit wiring harness does not fit speaker tabs

These speakers have incredible sound in our F150 Lariat.
Pros: Great sound and relatively easy to install.
Cons: The connectors that came with these speakers fit perfectly with the truck wiring; however, the speaker connections were far too small. The plus side, is Crutchfield also sent additional wire connectors, but, this could be tricky for those that do not know how to splice and connect wiring.

I recently upgraded my stereo, and was looking for a speaker with very clear highs to replace a set that started to rattle when I turned up the volume. Crutchfield recommended these replacement speakers as they were supposed to have great clarity. While they do have a good base response, the high end seems to be missing. This was surprising as these are a three way speaker and appear to be of very good quality. The Sony speakers I had before were much clearer and were a better fit for me. The Kicker speakers that I recently purchased for another vehicle also had a better high end to them.

I was not 100% sure with the speakers since I was not aware of the brand. I liked the three-way and I liked the specs. I received them and they look very solid. They install easy (side note - I have a 1996 Ford Bronco and the speakers had a little "tab" I have to remove so they would fit. It was easy and took 3 min.) When powered up they sound GREAT. Nice and bright highs and solid bass. No distortion. I would check out other speakers from this manufacturer now.

No Better than the 25 year old factory speakers ...Sad.
Crutchfield customer from Franklin, TN on 7/12/2019
1994 Ford Bronco
First, let me say that Crutchfield service is the BEST! This review/rating is strictly related to the speakers. I'm REALLY disappointed in these speakers. I put these in a 1994 Bronco that had the original factory speakers. I first replaced the driver side speaker then played some music so I could hear the difference between Rockford Fosgate and the factory speakers. I count NOT hear any difference!! There was literally no difference in sound. This was a huge disappointment when considering the factory speakers had lived a pretty hard life based on the dust and dirt behind the interior panels. Plus the speakers didn't fit in the original mounting bracket. I had to grind off and area on the edge to get it to fit. Like I said. Really disappointing when considering these were replacing 25 year old factory speakers and there's no difference in sound. :(
Pros: Crutchfield customer service is great but these speakers are a disappointment.
Cons: Sound quality, did not fit mounting brackets

With the multiple attachment options these speakers were an easy fit in an older 2001 Ford F150. They sound very good with just the original head unit and they do seem to wake up with a little more volume. I replaced front and rear speakers. This vehicle is a second vehicle and I'm very pleased everytime I get in and turn on the stereo. As many ratings say, these are leaps and bounds over standard speakers. I've had these speakers for about 18 months and am very happy with the outcome and would recommend for a good sound at a reasonable price.

P1683 for Ford Super Duty
Jim from SAINT PAUL, MN on 6/18/2019
I installed these in a 2000 Ford F-250 Crew Cabs Front Doors. They fit perfect. Still have about a 1/4" to 3/8" space between back of speaker and Window Regulator. Definitely not enough room for a baffle. Sound is great. Bass adjusted to 60% balance is great but not booming til about 3/4 volume (with factory head unit), then higher frequencies dominate, but still sounds good to me overall with my 52 year old ears. Mid-range and up is crisp and clear. I am surprised how much more detail I can hear in the music and vocals now than I did with the factory speakers. I am buying another pair of these for the rear next week. As other reviews state, you do need to change the female speaker end connectors of the Crutchfield adapters to fit the larger male contacts on the speaker. No big deal, (Crutchfield includes the correct size with their adapter harnesses, you just have to install). Also, I use heat shrink tubing up to the edge after clamping & then soldering these on the harnesses to prevent future corrosion. I preferred to use the factory mounting screws as they had a wider head to seat against the speaker. I happily recommend these and make sure you get the adapter harness. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the bass does not keep up with the higher frequencies at hi volume. But then "You cant have everything, where would you put it"
Pros: Perfect Fit! Great sound and great price. Brings out a lot of detail in the music and voices higher frequencies.
Cons: Bass falls back as volume increases over 3/4 on factory head unit. Wire connection Points are larger on speaker than most speakers (But Crutchfield includes the correct size with their adapter harnesses, you just have to install).

2001 Ford Explorer
These speakers sound great, especially at this price point! The mids and highs are very clear, however I would definitely look into getting a subwoofer to back these guys up in the bass department. Installation was a breeze and they fit right into all four doors of my 2001 Explorer (albeit a little tight in the front). They haven't given me any trouble whatsoever and they sound better than when I got them around 3/4 a year ago. Would definitely recommend these speakers, but would highly advise getting a subwoofer to really nail those lower frequencies.
Pros: Crystal clear highs and mids Easy installation Nice build quality
Cons: Lacking in bass without a sub (however they sound great without one if you're just playing classic rock and roll)

Great set of speakers, Installed on a 2011 F150 with a pioneer avh-2440nex. At the beginning I wasn't that impressed and actually I was thinking about installing an subwoofer to improve on the bass response, but after playing playing with the stereo settings and the equalizer the sound is awesome, no need for a subwoofer, all the low tones, middle tones and highs sound great. Only problem is that I got a rattling on my driver door. I contact Crutchfield and they give me some ideas to resolve the issue. For the interested people I set the receiver at loudness is set to low and bass boost to +2 of +4, then played with the equalizer graph to get the right sound.
Pros: Easy install, great sound response, great bass.

Pros: Sound great at higher volume
Cons: Not very bright sounding at lower volume. But still way better than stock speakers.

I purchased these to replace a blown set of rear speakers in a 1987 Mustang, even though this is a three way speaker it has great midrange sound as well as a very noticeable bass tone and not overpowering tweeters, just a good clean sound. I will be matching the front speakers soon!
Pros: Great sound, easy install.
Cons: I got them on sale so no complaints.

Very pleased with these RF speakers. I installed these a few days before getting a new head unit running 50W to each and it made a huge difference. Very full sound including lower notes and high treble. I can turn it up as loud as I can stand it and they still hold up well. One thing to note is the size of the terminals are much larger than most other speakers so you'll have to get a larger slide for it to fit. These slides were sent to me by Crutchfield.

Speakers are with out a doubt better than the stock ones in my wife's truck, and for the money I dont think you could find anything close. Was much better than expected for how reasonably priced these are. Only down side was they didnt quite fit the front of an 04 f150, that said a quick hit on the grinder and all fixed.
Pros: Crisp mids and highs, bass better than expected, there rockfords... I mean come on
Cons: Not great fit for 04-08 f150, that's literally it...

I installed 4 of these in my doors on my 2014 F-150 supercrew. They sound much better than the crappy factory speakers. The sound quality is much crisper and cleaner with better low end too. I'm still only using the factory head unit which I intend to keep, bit I'm definitely going to ad a Rockford Fosgate amp. You really need an amp to experience the full ability of these speakers I think, we'll see. They sound much better than the stock speakers just off of the 12 watts or so that I'm getting out of the factory head unit. I'm thinking 50 watts per channel should be plenty to make these speakers come alive. Rockford seems to make good quality stuff. Crutchfield shipped them fast and had good service when I called to ask a question or two. The instructions that Crutchfield emailed to me with the purchase made the install really easy. The speakers were just slightly cheaper on Amazon, but you have to buy the wiring harness adapters separate. So,,,, when you ad that cost plus tax (which I didn't have to pay with Crutchfield), it was about the same cost. Plus, you get instructions and way better support and service from Crutchfield. I will be a Crutchfield customer many more times I think.
Pros: Good quality with clean sound for a mid range, recommend running a small amp to get full performance when used with stock head units.
Cons: None so far.

Selected my vehicle on the Crutchfield website and was excited to see that this particular set of speakers was compatible in the lower front doors of my 08 F-150. I have never had any problems with Rockford Fosgate equipment but this set of speakers will not fit without cutting in to the door. I can understand a little trimming for a tweeter, but I would have to remove a large section of my door. Extremely disappointing. Please be careful if you are buying these for a 04-08 F150.
Pros: Look good in box
Cons: Wont fit in truck. Still looks good in box....

I went with this speaker because the brand was highly recommended by some speaker heads at work. Yes, they are much better than the factory speakers in the Ranger, but I was expecting a little more. The sound stage is a little weak and it really struggles with the lows. Installation was pretty easy, but I was pretty upset with the supplied wiring adapters that Crutchfield sent. They did not fit the posts on the speaker!
Pros: Decent sound. Pretty good highs and mids
Cons: Struggles with lows, weak soundstage. Crutchfield adapters do not fit negative post on speaker.

Just installed P1683's in my F150 with the original factory head. So far they sound very flat and thin compared to the factory door speakers which seem much more rounded and full. It's almost as if they don't respond properly to the lack of baffling in the doors. I noticed an big different in sensitivity too; it takes far more power to drive these speakers. I'm not sure if an AMP or EQ will even get me back to the original factory level of performance. Not sure what I'll do next. Replace the head, install an EQ and AMP or remove the speakers.

I'll be blunt...they sound great when its warm out but since the temps have dropped below freezing here (Chicago) they sound really tinny... No bass, all treble and very little of anything else. I have had to take bass and treble levels down to almost half of where they are at normally...They stock Ford speakers never did that...I'd pass on these speakers if you live in an area that gets temps below freezing for a better part of the season...
Pros: OEM fit , 3 way range of sound and makes my factory radio shine....

I would definitely recommend these speakers. They sound really good and deliver a full range of high, mid, low very accurately. Lots of head room when turned up.. they'll go louder than what I'm comfortable listening to, but I had to crank up the volume just to be sure they'd handle it. Enough low end to rattle the door. I've got two pair in my Escape, front and back, and I'll be buying these whenever I do another install. All the connectors etc that Crutchfield includes fit perfectly, this was the easiest installation of a car stereo I've done.

The speakers went in just like I thought but those wire harness(s) I had problems with... I had to cut of the ends that were attached to them and use ones that I have had in my tool box for years...dad always says " save that...you might need it someday" and I did....none of those +'s and -"s fit the prongs on the speakers. They could have been a bit longer to....
Pros: Love the new sound from my old radio with the new Rockford Fosgate Punch P 1638, I used all the factory screws to secure the speaker to the factory cut outs.
Cons: The problem with those wire harness was the only set back...

Excellent speakers for the money

2006 Ford Escape Hybrid
Got these to replace the rear door factory 6x8s in my 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. I put a set of Pioneer TS-A6885r 6x8's in the front doors. They're both surprisingly clear at high volumes. These speakers allow me to hear a lot more of the nuanced details in my music and the bass response is more than adequate for 90s rock/metal and gangsta rap. I am a dad as well so I also play children's music at low volumes while my toddler claps to wheels on the bus and these have excellent response for that application as well though I get more enjoyment blasting The Black Keys, NIN or Wu-Tang Clan then I do playing Sing-Along-with-Elmo at moderate volumes but they work just as well in either application.
Pros: Clarity and punch in the midrange and highs and satisfying bass response for my tastes. I don't need to make the next car over shake because I'm almost 40.
Cons: The speaker wire connector tabs on these speakers are too big for the Metra Ford adapters I received from Crutchfield which seem to fit most other speakers just fine. To correct this, I took a trip to auto parts store and purchased some slide connectors that fit and they were easy to crimp on.

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683_great speaker - good value
Steve L from Fairfax Station, VA on 3/13/2016
2006 Mazda MX5
I replaced the stock non-Bose door speakers in my 2006 Mazda Miata Sport. They were an identical fit. I replaced one and broke some nylon push pins in the door panel, so a I drove around for a day with one stock speaker and one Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 speaker. I drove around all day comparing one side to the other and had difficulty detecting the differences in the speakers. After getting some replacement push pins for door panels, installed the other Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683. I could definitely tell the difference and my wife, the ultimate critic noticed the improvement as well. I was very pleased at that point.
Pros: Exact fit. The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 6x8 speakers fit the same mounting holes as the non-Bose stock door speakers in my 06 Miata Sport. No drilling new holes.
Cons: The interface plug and wires that came free with the speakers were not an exact fit to the wiring tabs on the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 speakers. I had to use some miniature flat head screw drivers to widen the connectors on the interface plug so they would fit the speaker tabs.

Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683, 30 % better then stock 2013 F-150 speake
Jay from middletown, DE on 2/5/2016
Worth the affordable price. I bought 2 sets and did back and front of Super Cab F-150. Got rid of the dead/muffled midrange in the stock speakers. These are more clear and crip. No base. I was not looking for base anyway, at 55, I use the treble more. Nice speakers. Install kit was very good and free, but you have t have some skill set and whil the instructions will show you how to get the door panels off, it won't help you with all the details.3-4 hours to right side and 1.5 hours to do the drivers side the next day. Pleant of tools and space, in the garage, I would do it all over if I had to,.
Pros: Fit, Instructions, free harness, nice speaker, Great highs and good mid range.
Cons: Bag of blue clips to fit the speakers, have to choose from many sizes to get right fit. Hex head bolts supplied would not work with the speakers, used stock screws.

Great speakers! I have a 2013 Ford Mustang and they fit perfectly ! Only small problem i had was the harness wires did not fit perfectly. The negative on the wire harness was too small to fit over the negative on the speaker. 2010 Ford Ranger
These speakers fit the factory opening and screw holes perfectly on my 2010 Ranger XL Regular Cab. The sound is a vast improvement over the Mexican OEM Ford speakers, especially in the highs and lower bass. Total bass is not that impressive, but could be the 6x8 cone design compromising that region of frequencies. Very satisfied, and Crutchfield had them on sale! Only thing I would add to the very complete instructions is leaving door lock pull up on re-install to assist in realigning same.
Pros: High-end speaker for a relatively modest price. Quality construction and materials. Installation instructions for the Ranger were spot on.

1995 Ford Escort LX
I have a 1995 ford escort LX wagon, and these were sold to me with a "caution" that there was a bit of customizing for my car. They did in fact fit and work great, but you really have to use your brain, a couple of spare nuts laying around shop to give adequate space for speaker to not touch grill, and a saw to cut plastic off of grill and cut one of the grill brackets out of the way. I think they did a good job of pointing you in the right direction in their "caution" alert, and common sense has to take you the rest of the way. If you are mechanically inclined enough to put in a audio system, you should be smart enough to figure this instillation out.
Pros: great sound
Cons: Needs a little common sense ingenuity to modify mounting, in 1995 Escort LX wagon.

Better than stock

2013 Ford Edge
2013 Ford Edge SEL These speakers are much better than the stock speakers. Hooked mine up to the factory Head Unit. Highs and Mids are much clearer and there is a small improvement on the Lows. On the installation side: 1.) Removing the door panels WILL result in broken panel clips. Specifically the white ones. Recommend that you get 8-10 new ones of these as a precaution. 2.) Shorten up the harness adapters to 1.5" of wire. All the rest is not needed. 3.) The metra terminals that are given to you free are pretty cheesy. They bend very easily so be careful and make sure that you are pushing them on straight - any deviation from straight will result in a bent terminal. 4.) There are (2) plastic tabs that need to be cut off flush on each door. A pair of flat back side cutters does the job just fine. 5.) The (4) bolts that hold the factory speakers can be reused without issue. Do not use the hardware that comes with the speakers.
Pros: Much better sound
Cons: Nothing with the speakers

2007 Ford Mustang
2007 Mustang GT Premium coupe I bought these based off of the reviews. I put them in because I thought the factory speakers were blown. Turns out they were not blown but a setting in the factory stereo was putting more power to the rear speakers rather then all speakers giving a really bad distortion to the speakers. After I replaced the speakers Is when I figured this out because these speakers did the same thing only worse. That is when I found it in the settings so check this setting first hit your menu button and look for it to say rear speakers switch it to all speakers or drivers side. This takes the power being pushed to the rear and spreads it more evenly to the other speakers. That being said I decided to keep the RF speakers in place. I personally like the sound from them over the factory speakers. Also of note is these same speakers will work in a 2007 Mustang GT coupe front door as well you will have to modify the plastic that the speaker is mounted in as they have upraised plastic tabs to keep the factory speakers aligned. Cut all four tabs off and they fit in place no problems what so ever. Also if mounting in the front door make sure you buy 2 sets of the rears so that you get the speaker adapter and the wire clips as the polarity is reversed in the front speakers as well with the wire harnes they give you.

Pros: Sound, Clarity, Volume - Ease of install. Highly Recommended and sound great with the factory 6 disk changer
Cons: Nothing to do with the speakers, but the Metra wiring harness and terminals were on the cheap side - One of the wiring harness' terminal kept pushing out when plugging it into the wiring, and the spades were very cheaply made and bend easily. Really can't complain as they were 'free'.

These are very high quality speakers. However, these speakers only come with two slide posts, not four, which is customary? In addition, the slide posts are larger than standard, and require a larger push on connector? Finally, these speakers did NOT fit in the front doors of my '07 F150, without modification. I had to cut off some extra mounting tab, with a hacksaw, as it was made of plastic and the metal speaker shell. I wish I had known this, ahead of time.

I have a F150 Crew..did not want to use space under rear bench for sub woofers, so I knew I needed 3ways. Previously installed Pioneers, and Alpines. Went thru both because of slamming doors too hard. I now have Rockfords...the sound and bass punch is 100% noticeable difference. Of course I shouldn't be slamming the doors so hard. I like these Rockford Fosgates so much...I will soon swap out my 3-ways in the rear doors, and replace the Alpines. The 6 by 8 Rockfords did not fit in the doors right out of box. I called...talked to service..and was informed I needed to use a cutting tool to trim speaker frame edge.....then fit perfectly!

I am very pleased with the sound. I found a video on you tube about removing the door panels to install and that helped me a great deal on the installation. My only complaint about the install is that the quick connect that was supplied for easy installation did not fit the terminal on the speaker itself. I had to cut off the smaller of the two spade connectors and add a larger one to make it work. A bag of larger spade connectors was provided so I assume that they know this a problem already. I don't understand why you would provide a connector that doesn't fit your own speaker. I also installed a SoundgateT SubStageT SF150C09 by Kicker at the same time and I am very pleased with my new sound.

Low to mid volume levels sounds great but if your one of those people out to let everyone know what your listening to, you'll want a sub for back up. The tweets take over quite a bit at high volume.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy Install
Cons: Nothing yet

Very easy install on my F150, only minor modification needed, just had to round down 2 tabs on each speaker to fit the front doors. Otherwise everything I needed to install it came with it in my order for free.
Pros: For the price, you cant beat it, and the quality over my old Made in Mexico 25w ones that came stock, is 10 fold better!
Cons: Cant think of any.

Great speaker for my 2014 Mustang (doors)
DanielB from Atlanta, GA on 3/23/2014
2014 Ford Mustang
I installed a set of these in my 2014 Mustang with the base, 4-speaker sound system. For the price, you would be very hard pressed to find a better sounding speaker. The highs are crisp and clear and louder than I would ever need them to be. Although some reviewers complain about the low-end sound, I find that they are much better than you would expect to find in this size speaker; 6x8's can only do so much. Additionally, there is a good foam gasket built onto the mounting surface (for top-mount applications) that will negate the use of having to apply additional sealing materials. I wish I knew that before I purchased the weather stripping. The only complaint I have is that they were not pure drop-ins for my car, as stated by Crutchfield. The bracket that is used by Ford has mounting tabs that require modification (removal) on two of the four. Easily done with a sharp knife and a pair of pliers. I used only a one inch strip of weather strip as insurance on one of the two remaining tabs. It was a tight fit and likely not necessary, but like I said, insurance.
Pros: Excellent highs and mids Great mid-bass punch Excellent quality and construction
Cons: Not a clean drop-in for 2011-2014 Mustang but easy enough to accommodate.

Over all great speakers! I ordered two pairs, one for the front, one for the rear of my 2005 F150 SuperCab. The front set went out within the first two days, crutchfield sent a replacement pair no questions asked and now they work perfectly! The sound is much better than factory!
Pros: Better sound quality, easy to install

I recently purchased these knowing that it had good reviews and well, they weren't wrong! These speakers sound clear and it really fills in that bass that my stock speakers on my 02 F-150 just couldn't put out. Makes the seats vibrate when it's on volume level 25.
Pros: Great sound for a great price. Easy install.

2013 Ford F-150 XLT
After purchasing a 2013 Ford XLT, (New) I expected more from the premium sound system that came with it. What I got was an over priced desk clock with a radio. I installed 2 pairs of the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 and it was an amazing difference in sound quality and volume. I did the installation myself. I recommend installing speaker baffles with the speakers. There are several videos on YouTube that shows how to remove the door panels and it was a snap, took about 1.5 hours to complete.
Pros: Easy to install.
Cons: Provided connectors were cheap and did not fit the speaker connections. Had to make some modifications myself, minor inconvenience.

Pros: Excellent value, sound is very good.
Cons: Had to use my hand grinder to round off 2 corners of mounting ears to fit front door speakers, no big deal. Did not have to do this with the rear speakers

Great speakers.
JB from Longview, Wa. on 5/26/2013
1998 Ford F-150
For a '98 XL F150 single cab Flareside, doors and rear. Great speakers, it's been a few years since i've played with stereo toys so i spent a little more then what I wanted to but got a great "special" on the four speakers. Be careful when trimming the wires to splice the new connectors onto the wires (that was one of the options) as the drivers side seemed to be the shortest pull with the speaker connections on the opposite side of where the wires come in the door. Just flip the speaker "upside down" to gain a few inch's. (Looking at the speaker front, the connectors are on the left.) Too short and it can pull out or weaken the connectors, and too long and it could get tangled up in the window mechanism.
Pros: I didn't need the old outer speaker "protectors" from the factory speakers, they fit the new ones okay, but it looked like it might muffle the sound. I probably will put them on the next time I take the door panels off, just for sound of mind. The speakers do have the "plastic" look for the membrane but does seem pretty tough.
Cons: Nothing I can think of, other then getting a small sub woofer to accent the sound. Stock radio's fault not the speakers.

Sure Beats The Factory Ford Speakers
Travinnio from Las Vegas NV on 11/11/2012
2005 Ford F-150
These are great quality and sound is improved. For a full range speaker the all around sound is excellent. I used to be a guy who had the big high end sound system and these work just as well. Yes you don't get that deep bass but it's just enough that you don't lose out on a well rounded sound. If you are looking for a quality sound at an inexpensive price then look no further than these. I have a 2005 Ford F150 Super Cab with a Kenwood KDC-BT948HD stereo and they fit in the rear doors with no problems but for the front door location it requied a little bit of modification. I had to cut one of the mounting tabs off for them to fit. If it wasn't designed to fit multiple sized openings then no cutting would be required. As for the install manuel it's fantastic. I installed all 4 speakers and the modifications to 2 spekaers in less than 1 hour. Plus why buy from anywhere else, they give you everything you need : adapters so you don't have to cut and splice anything, manuels, and expert advice.
Pros: overall sound quality, price, install manuel, wiring harness.

I bought these speakers to replace the factory Ford speakers on my new 2012 F-150, as most of you know the Ford factory speakers have a somewhat muffled unclear sound, I had these Rockford Punch speakers put in for me by a local car audio shop and I am quite satisfied with the transformation, they are clear, great high end, decent bass, but I agree with the other review, if you buy these you'll want a sub for the bass, to compliment the great clarity of the highs
Pros: Good price the second pair was half off, Crutchfield's great instructions,

2012 Ford F-150 XLT
I bought these on Thursday and got them on Monday. I bought them to replace the factory speakers in my 2012 Ford F150 XLT. I installed all 4 in about an hour. The directions provided were very good. I had to cut off both female connectors on the speaker adapters Crutchfield provided but they already knew this and provided the correct female connectors. They drop in both the front and rear doors and sound much better then the factory paper junk. A side by side comparison of the factory to these is a joke. I think they will sound even better with a powered sub to fill in the shallow low end.
Pros: Drop in replacement for factory. Much more robust. Sound better then stock junk.
Cons: None so far.

Bought this to use in conjunction with Clarion cx501 head unit. they are good speakers, not great speakers though. Certainly an upgrade from stocks. Overall sound is good the mids and highs are the highlights. The low end bass will make you wish you had a sub. I wish I had spent the extra money and shot a little higher up the food chain. In the end I am relatively pleased with the purchase. certainly pleased enough to not be thinking about swapping them out!
Pros: high and mids

2002 Mazda Protege
I have a 2002 Mazda Protege. I installed the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1683 speakers in my front doors to replace my factory speakers. Crutchfield gave me instructions on how to remove the door panels which made things much easier. Although I really don't like 5x7 speakers, I wasn't willing to modify my doors to accommodate 6x9's. These speakers exceeded my expectations. They have outperformed all of the 5x7's I've had so far. They have great Highs, Mids, and Lows for a speaker this size. I have pair these with a JVC KWR900BT receiver and JBL GT6-69 speakers in the rear deck and together they sound great. However, i do have to fade the sound to front a little or the 6x9's overpower the 5x7's.
Pros: Great Price. Great sound for the size.

Good factory replacement speakers
RC from WNC on 7/24/2012
2012 Ford Mustang
I chose these speakers based on a good past experience with Rockford-Fosgate Punch series and they have good sensitivity which is important when using with the factory radio. These speakers sound decent and fit in the front door of a 2012 Ford Mustang. Fairly easy install and a HUGE improvement in sound quality over the junk factory speakers on the Shaker500 system. Still sound a little harsh, but it could be due to the factory Shaker500 head unit. Still, now I can at least listen to the sound system.
Pros: Easy install, decent sound quality.
Cons: Sound a little bit harsh with the factory sound system.

Major Improvemnt
Lithograph from East TN on 7/4/2012
2012 Ford Mustang
Huge improvement over my factory speakers. I drive a 2012 Mustang that had some very lackluster speakers provided by Ford. I decided to switch them out for the Fosgate speakers, and they sound way better. I can drive them much harder without the distortion from the factory speakers, and their sound is very crisp and clear compared to the Ford's more "muddled" factory set-up. I had two Fosgate 10" subs from an old system that I installed in the trunk to get some bass. The component speakers sound fantastic, but they will not give you big bass (even though it's better than the factory speakers).
Pros: Great sound, and reasonably priced. They can be driven very hard without distorting. Crutchfield's (free) installation guide was a HUGE help. Just follow the instructions and you'll get them switched out in no time.
Cons: I had to slightly modify the housing of the speakers because the Fosgates were shaped just a bit different than the factory speakers. Nothing major, but annoying nonetheless. This is likely only a problem on a few vehicles (just guessing).

A great spealer for the money
Captain Video from Oceanside. NY on 2/2/2012
I bought these speakers for my '06 Ford Expedition. Crutshfield originally recommended the P1S652, but those required some major cutting of the trim around the speaker. I just installed the P1683's and they sound great! I did have to do some minor trimming of the speaker's frame as the Expedition has a recess that the speaker sits in. No big deal. The highs are incredible. Very crisp and clean. The low frequencies are OK but bot great; however, that's why subwoofers were created.
Pros: Heavy speaker, solid frame, well designed, crisp clean highs. The Ford factory speakers are lightweight, muddy-sounding low performers and these were, overall, a terrific repalcement
Cons: Minor trimming of the speaker's frame is required to fit the Expedition. A hacksaw worked just fine. Not much "Punch" in the low end.

Purchased these as support speakers to P1572's. They performed great in grand daughters '08 mustang as rear units. Adjustments in Sony HU made them sound great without power amp or sub (which will probably be added later). Installation of rear speakers in '08 Mustang was a nightmare in spite of Crutchfield instructions AND "You Tube" videos I found.
Pros: So impressed I purchased two more pair for my wife's '09 F-150. The enhancement of the Sony system was unbelievable.
Cons: Depending on your taste and system you may want a sub to accent these.
