Replaced 30 year old Rockford amp.
Chad from PORT MATILDA, PA on 1/15/2024

I replaced a Punch 4080DSM with this amp and could not tell any difference which is a huge compliment to this new Rockford amp. I love my 4080DSM but had to send it out for capacitor replacement, 30 years old got my monies worth. This Punch P400X4 fit in the same location as my old amp and sounds amazing.
Pros: Price, build quality, sound quality.
Cons: The removable cover is nice but is a kind of a pain.

Amazing amp. I have this one in my E30 BMW powering 4 Polk Audio 5.25" speakers. The sound is amazing and crisp and clear. As per usual, it's putting out way more power than advertised so I intentionally sized down from what the speakers were rated for at RMS. I was not disappointed. This replaced a Pioneer amp rated at almost the same power. Fact is that the Punch sounds like it's twice as powerful and definitely sounds better. The speakers came alive and sound incredible. The setup is a breeze and I actually have it tuned down a little. Great amp. Will not disappoint.
Pros: Quality, Power, Value

Classic quality
James from Westminster, SC on 1/20/2022
It's great that Rockford Fosgate is still making such high quality underrated amps. I love this unit after a week of ownership. 83 RMS watts per channel at 4 ohms, and 139 at 2 ohms. That's 40% more power than the factory rating. The sound is crisp and clean and plenty loud. The only complaint I have is setting up the "Clean" power. The amp doesn't include the audio tracks you need on a CD, and you can't download it anywhere, you can only stream. I ended up setting my gains using a regular music CD and used the blue/purple lights as a reference for setting the gains. Love the way this unit looks and feels too. Heavy and high quality. You really can't go wrong with the RF Punch series.
Pros: Power Looks Quality
Cons: No "Clean" CD included

Old School Quality
Dave from Compton, Ca on 11/30/2021
This amp is awesome. Full disclosure, I used to work at a major retailer, that sold Car Audio and other electronics (service was state of the art there). I sold car audio and it was my hobby. I had to admire Rockford Fosgate from afar, because we didn't sell it. Finally, I got my first Fosgate amp, after being away from car audio for over 20 years. This was well worth the wait! I had it hooked up to the Memphis PRX690's and some rear speakers. I upgraded to the JBL Stadium 690s and the midrange for the 3 way set (even though Crutchfield said they wouldn't fit my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee). I have to say, the sound quality and the power that this amp delivers is amazing. Everything is balanced and ultra clean. This amp is on par with every old school SoundStream, MTX, and Sony amp that I have ever used. I listen to a wide range of music-jazz, hip-hop, r&b, grunge, country... The sound is clean and pure! The crossover and bass boost are great ,as well! WOW this amp rocks. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of these for my next project!
Pros: Power and Sound Quality
Cons: None

I upgraded from the prime r250x4 to drive my Kappa components. I could tell during the install that the punch series was worth the extra cost. Sound is great, setup was simple, and build quality is also excellent. Lastly, nothing on this planet is perfect but Crutchfield is pretty close, between the information on the website and chatting with knowledgeable people I was able to extensively research what I was looking for before making my purchase.
Pros: Underrated power, clipping lights and high quality switches, dials and terminals.

The Punch P400X4 amplifier is A high Fidelity amp with more than enough power to really make your speakers perform to their best potential. I am using this amp with a JVC KD-T915BTS radio and four Rockford Fosgate Punch P1650 speakers. Real nice sounding system. Rockford Fosgate amps and the JVC front end are a perfect match they interface well with each other. You really do get a great sound out of this amp and only the best components should be used with a amp of this quality
Pros: Under rated power the birth certificate said this amp will push 84 watts RMS into 4 channels at 4 ohms. Drives speakers very well with Crisp clean sound. Highly recommended
Cons: None so far. Remember your stereo is only as good as your weakest components in the chain.

Installed in 2018 Tundra Crewmax. Blown away at the details I've been missing from factory system. I have punch 6x9 fronts ( they will fit with an additional 3/16 spacer that I made from acrylic) and punch 6 components rear powered by this amplifier they sound clear and tight. I plan on updating speakers (again) to some power fosgates components. It only takes about 2 hours for installation. You can not go wrong with Rockford Fosgate. I've bounced around with different speakers throughout my 49 years but always end up back to Rockford and IMO their amplifiers are some of the best on the market at this price point. The Crutchfield crew is the absolute best people in the market. Thanks

Have not hooked it up yet. The birth certificate say it will do 337 watts at 4 ohms that is 84.25 watts X 4 channels at 4 ohms. Rockford Fosgate is the choice if you want the best money can buy. The P400X4 amp should be considered as a awesome deal.

Great amp, under-rated power for what it can actually do.
Daniel from Minnesota on 11/16/2020

Great amp, Gets almost too loud for my car to balance full range with my sub amp. With the gain set to 2 V it completely overpowers my sub at optimal gains. Need to turn it down to 9v. Amp is rated at 50 W x4 at 4 ohms. The calibration sheet that comes with it says it's capable of 80w per channel... That's a lot of overhead.
Pros: Sounds good, able to get a lot of volume at low gain. clipping and distortion lights are spot on. (Checked with oscilloscope)
Cons: Punch EQ isn't the best. I wish it could boost bass without have to set crossover to LPF.

The missing link
Ty from Klamath Falls, OR on 10/25/2020
1967 Chevrolet El Camino
I recently purchased what I thought was an awesome system. Subwoofer, mono amp retro deck and front component speakers. All this for my custom 67 El Camino. After the install of all those listed above I was not hearing what I thought my system should be. HOWEVER, 2 weeks later I purchased this amp with some 6x9 speakers to put behind the seat, and WOW she came ALIVE. This amp was the missing link to the system I Imagine for my first installation. This Fosgate amp was an easy install if you are a person that has the ability to do DIY projects. This amp is user friendly, this amp is also needed to get crystal clear lyrics and live instrumentals that a deck alone will not provide. Now I have my amp installed in the 4 channel position and love the Hi fidelity sounds I'm getting without turn on the subwoofer at all. The subwoofer is the icing on the cake when I want to feel that I am on stage with the Musicians. My system includes Retro Long Beach 10"subwoofer 600watt Punch mono amp 500watt Fosgate front components Fosgate 6x9 rear speakers And the most important part of the System. This Fosgate 4 channel P400X4 amp. I would also like to thank JT at Crutchfield tech support for his knowledge , help & conversation with my project.
Pros: Makes the system sound the way it should.
Cons: Really not much. I would say the amp is a heavy unit and a nice size so it has to be mounted under the seat. But if you want American perfection then just deal with it ??

I like this amp. I also have it's cousin, the Rockford Fosgate Punch P300X1 mono amp powering my sub. This amp powers 4 JL Audio 6.5 coaxial speakers in each door of my 2006 GMC Sierra 2500hd crew cab Duramax. It works great, is tuneable, and I hope it will be just as reliable as its 2 year old cousin I just mentioned.
Pros: low profile to hide, tune-able, reliable brand
Cons: the way Rockford has you adjust the clipping is wonky. It had me stop at 9 volts, when my headunit puts out 5. It was so quiet I couldn't hear much out of the speakers. I cranked it up to 3 volts, and it is much better. Not sure what that issue was.

This thing puts out all the power it advertises and for the price, pretty cleanly! I set my gains with an oscilloscope and the clipping light matched perfectly with the distorted sine wave so that was extra assurance that I set the dial correctly.I have it bridged and powering two 6.5's in the doors. They are way overpowering my sub at this point which was expected because my sub is only getting 300 watts. No complaints with this amp so far!
Pros: Good value
Cons: Gets a bit hot when playing for a long time but that's expected from a class AB amp.

It has been years since I have upgraded a car stereo but I have always been loyal to Rockford Fosgate. This amp is the perfect amplifier for those that are looking to take their factory stereo to the next level. I was really surprised at just how much more power this amp puts out over the factory head unit. I used to turn my stereo up to 20 before I could hear it clearly. Now I can hear it clearly at volume level 6. Hats off to RF for making excellent products.

Never Going Back
Sir Shops-a-lot from Northeast Texas on 5/31/2016
I can't believe I thought powering my speakers through the Pioneer head-unit sounded good. This Rockford Fosgate amp is a revelation. Not so much in loudness but in liveness and immersive sound. I run it through Focal Integration speakers, which had a "colored" sound when powered by the head-unit. Through this R-F amp the Focals have clarity and vehicle-filling sound. I think this amp and speaker combination adds to the liveness effect, given that Focals have a reputation for "revealing" sound. Recordings I have heard for years have a fresh perspective, especially over HD radio.
Pros: The featured Trans-ANA circuitry is a deal-maker.
Cons: I think a bypass switch for the punchEQ and crossover circuitry would be nice. I'm a flat-EQ listener and also the Focals are pretty punchy already.
