I never got to hook it up. It's just a little too big for my truck. I am doing a return for a 12 that isn't in such a big box but I will say just my handling and checking out the P 500 12 inch subwoofer is in a solid sturdy box very heavy. I was quite impressed with the size and weight of the speaker. I am disappointed that it's just a little too big for my truck. I'm returning this one and getting the next 12 inch subwoofer that is in an enclosed speaker box which is a little bit smaller. I'm excited I'm just waiting.

Finally upgraded from the P300-12 and am soooooooooo glad I did!!! the powered enclosure type is perfect to easily remove from my hatchback if I need to take up the entire hatch area - otherwise for normal every day stuff, the punch series have been super durable and sturdy. The P500-12 gives a deeper/wider range for the bass while still being really punchy and not sounding distorted. I'm going to have to do some sound deadening in my car after this upgrade!
Pros: bass range, clarity, easy to install, durable

Worthy of the punch name. It almost sounds like custom bass. Had to amplify my door speakers to keep up. Nice basic system now. I've given the sub all it can handle. Playing cleanly it has pretty tight bass response, good power. Playing distorted it surprisingly throws a ton of air. I'm happy with it. No need to upgrade at present.
Pros: Great old school rockford punch Quick connects are great for space Surprisingly heavy
Cons: Shallow just doesn't move like full size. I can get down to 35-38hz no lower.

The P500-12P is NIGHT AND DAY better than the original amplified sub that i had in my vehicle. I listen to a lot of Hip Hop music, and this sub captures the essence of each beat perfectly. Also, the spacing in the trunk of my 06 Atlima is still preserved with the low profile vented box. I couldnt be more pleased with this sub.
Pros: - Picks up Mid-Deep Bass really well - Low Profile - Easy to Tune and EQ - Vented Box - 500 Watt RMS for a self-contained sub!
Cons: - Doesn't pick up Deep Bass very well, but it's expected with a system pushing out 500 Watts RMS. Need to get into the 1000 Watt Range for that level of efficiency

My Crutchfield Advisor (Dillon) helped me find the right 8 gage wiring kit and AmpPRO SUB Wiring Interface made specifically for my vehicle.
Pros: This is the sub you want to elevate your sound system with some bass and not worry about buying a separate amp and a box to go with your sub woofer. It also fits behind my third row seats.
Cons: The bass sounds punchy. This sub is not the one you want if you are a Bass-head and love deep low bass. I used the foam that came with the sub and cut it to plug the port. It sounds better now when the lower bass frequencies hit!

Today is the day my speaker scared me half to death ?? (Can anyone tell me why this may have happened?) So basically it's about 7pm and I get home from work then I shut my car off then about 30 mins later a very low bass note plays and I don't even know how long it was playing for!! (note: My car is off) I made sure my phone wasn't connected through Bluetooth or anything like that and then my sub is now hot so I am gonna unplug it for a couple days to let it cool down!!! On The Fence
Song from Brooklyn Park, MN on 5/19/2022
May 19, 2022 After all the stellar reviews, I finally pulled the trigger on this P500-12P. I bought it due to it's easy plug and play, price point, and portability. But mostly because I needed to add a Sub to my Factory HK System. It is currently residing in my F36 4 Series, facing the rear. My thoughts on day 3 of owning this system: 1. It's is easy to plug and play. 2. It's heavy, 50lbs. 3. The Bass is meh - could be because I'm still on the factory head unit and amp. 4. The Bass is boomier than I thought, like I feel it in my head more than my chest kind of feeling. Sounds like all the cheap subs in my old neighborhood. 5. This boominess makes my head dizzy - will need to try different locations in the hatch. 6. As I turn up the volume, all I hear is the hatch rattle - thinking about sound deadening for sure, maybe turning the sub towards the cabin. 7. Seriously thinking about returning. 8. Seriously thinking about a Sealed enclosure. Honestly I'll give it a few more weeks and make some adjustments, then make my decision.
Pros: Portable. Plug and Play. Will fit most needs of most people.
Cons: Bass is boomy.

Great Sub, lots of power and tight bass, especially if you plug port.
Jeffrey from Muskegon, MI on 5/13/2022
I upgraded the speakers in my BMW X3 which does have two 8"subs under the seats but not much deeper bass. In the old days you could go to a lot of different stores and explore options but now you're pretty much stuck with Best Buy and the few options they have. I've been looking at the Crutchfield website for this and other products and decided to go with them over Amazon so that I could support one of the few retailers of audio and video that seem to know what they are doing. I chose this one for several reasons: it's all built into one one unit, it's not carpeted (I really don't care for that look), it's got a larger amp with lower frequency limit and it got good reviews. After playing with it for a while, I give it 5 stars with a couple of notes: I plugged the port. This thing puts out a lot of bass even at the lowest levels and it was quite boomy until I plugged it with some wood I wedged into the port. Now, it's just about perfect; deep, tight, loud bass that truly rounds out my system that sounded pretty good already. Also: for a nice sub, they put a crappy little speaker harness that must have cost five cents to make. You cut off the RCA inputs to hook up the high level speaker lines and if you read the instructions wrong (which are not very clear) you'll end up canceling the lines out instead of running them through the sub. The top two wires get put together on one speaker line and the bottom two on the other; this is not intuitive
Pros: 500 watt amp, compact size, vinyl cover (not carpet), nice looking and awesome, deep, tight bass. Crutchfield was great to work with when I had issue with speaker connection.
Cons: Boomy bass if you don't plug the port. Laughably cheap speaker harness with poor instructions for connecting high level speaker input.

It's Perfect! I have 2005 Sti with a loud exhaust system and I had the JBL Nano subwoofer which is a very good subwoofer if you have a quiet exhaust. So I returned it and talked to Chance for his advice on which subwoofer would help me get that bass I want and to overcome my exhaust system so he recommended this Rockford Fosgate P500. At first I thought it might be too much power but I'm really happy with it, my exhaust is no more of an issue and with a little tuning tweak on the crossover with the help of your ( Crutchfield ) tutorials my sub is AWESOME!. A Big Thank You to Chance on making my car stereo and my driving experience exciting and fun again. If you're wondering about this sub and contemplating don't, just get it. Dissapointed
Jason from West Hartford, CT on 11/11/2021
Really disappointed with this p500-12p. It performs ok but I also have a PIONEER TS-WX1210AH powered sub which is half the price and sounds so much cleaner than the Rockford. The Rockford handles more power so sounds better at higher volumes but not much bass at lower volumes. The pioneer just has a cleaner bass and I am guessing its due to the size of box and that the pioneer has a built in crossover which this $500 Rockford does not have. This unit even though its ported almost feels like its sealed. Some music that I know has great low bass tones this unit cannot produce the bass on certain songs for some reason its really picky were as my pioneer sounds good on every song. This unit will rattle your mirror but just not a nice clean sounding bass that I would like and will be returning it.
Pros: size, connectivity, power
Cons: Price, No built in crossover, does not produce clean low tone bass notes on all music.

I upgraded my door speakers and got a four channel amp to go to them only to realize I still had no bass. I decided it would be easier to just get a powered sub to get the bass I needed and this was exactly what I was looking for. Fits perfect in the trunk of a Honda Civic and fills up the whole car with sound. Had it professionally installed and the Crutchfield amp kit worked perfect for wiring it. Might be too big if you're seeking a compact design but if you have some space, this thing hits!

Great sound, easy install, great for quick removal to make space
Jason from Marietta, GA on 6/5/2021
One of the main reasons why I chose this subwoofer was the quick disconnect adapter. I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab, and I wanted the option to easily disconnect and remove the subwoofer if I needed to use the rear seats. Rockford Fosgate has always been good to me, so I went with them. I am very happy overall with this purchase. It hits hard, it has a very good sound. I noticed after about 2 months of steadily playing loud music, it sounded better, I guess it had to break in. It is pretty large, but it's very easy to disconnect it and remove it if you need to. The bass level controller has a very long cable, it works just fine. I would recommend this subwoofer to anybody who wants a simple installation of a subwoofer, and the ability to reposition it or to remove it from the vehicle very easily. It's a great sounding subwoofer, it hits hard and DEFINITELY fills up a Tacoma.
Pros: Extremely easy to install. Quick disconnect for removal from vehicle. Great sound.

This thing sounds great and hits plenty hard for me. It took my 2018 Camry's base stereo to a whole new level. Since I was no longer trying to carry the bass with the factory speakers I could turn down the levels at the factory headunit and improve the overall sound from the existing speakers, in addition to the wonderfully strong bass now coming from this sub. I am thoroughly pleased with its performance so far. I was able to install it myself over a couple of sessions. Although it was somewhat daunting and difficult figuring out how to penetrate the firewall to route the power wire to the battery, I was able to accomplish it to my satisfaction, but I have a technical/mechanical background. I can see this possibly being too much for someone with no experience working with wires and sealing up grommets etc.

This thing hammers for a single 12, and, although it probably won't set off any car alarms, it will rattle the inside of your car. With the adjustment nob all the way down, it adds a full, warm, bottom end without being overpowering. You can then quickly adjust from your seat to get the boom whenever you want it.

I have a 1995 Honda Civic Coupe with a Pioneer MHV-S310BT, Alpine SPE-5000 speakers in the front doors, and this subwoofer. It's fantastic. Installation is a breeze because it's all-in-one. I used the sub RCA outputs on the Pioneer deck, and set the power switch on the amp set to Audio. It works great. I bought this sub because it's the most affordable setup I found that can play 20Hz. Loud wasn't the goal, but I wanted depth. It delivers. Very recommended.
Pros: Plays very deep bass. Doesn't use a lot of trunk space. Great volume. Isn't too much for my little 65A alternator. Looks pretty cool in the trunk.
Cons: None that I've found so far.

Neither of the fuses are blown so no way for me to know what the problem is. Now the fun part. I contacted Rockford Fosgate and they said they are UNABLE to fix the sub. As in they refuse to repair it even if I pay. Pretty pathetic for a subwoofer at this price to only last 14 months. Awesome bass!! You probably want to upgrade your door speakers and power them with an amp because this sub can pound! I installed it in my wife's 2014 Veloster Turbo and boy was I amazed. It sounds like 2 twelves in this hatchback! Hasn't even broken in yet. My wife and kids love it. I think need to upgrade my 8" bazooka in my truck. It's kinda muddy given that it's ported but if you like a lot of base and want something simple to set up, this is it. Price might be kinda high but if it sounds like two 12's, worth it. Also great features that allowed me to keep factory receiver without needing a line out converter. Got all my quality connectors and 8gage Rockford amp kit from from Crutchfield! Don't settle for less.
Pros: Sounds like two 12's
Cons: Ported box so bass is a bit muddy, but I would recommend if you like lots of bass.

Very pleasantly surprised by the look and quality of the enclosure, nice enough to use in living room! Heavier than expected, which is good. Quick disconnects are very nice and high quality. Sound is impressive and very adjustable, amp is plenty strong and the speaker seems high quality as well. Highly recommend to add punch to any system.
Pros: Quality and sound
Cons: none

This thing has a very satisfing kick!!!
Jorge from CIDRA, PR on 7/7/2020
2005 Toyota Corolla
This is just what I was looking for! Easy to install, compact but packs a very satisfying punch! Looks clean and it sits nicely behind the back seat.Best of all, if you need that extra space in the car's trunk, the sub comes with a pull-out plug for easy uninstalling and removing the sub. I own a Corolla 2005, so it fitted perfectly in the trunk. If all you're looking for is getting some kick out of your bass, I strongly recommend getting this type of setup if you're looking for a easy and clean look. Personally, I'm adding a 100 watts Rockford 4 channel amp to help out the car's speakers, just to enhance the sound over all.

P500-12P, a decent ported sub.
LD from Jackson on 6/8/2020
This is a decent sub. Used it in the trunk of a Kia Optima, but has since sold it to family. Loud, punchy, and pretty powerful. Limited low frequencies though. Seems to peak around 40 to 50 hz. Not a whole lot under 35 hz or so. I would still recommend it if you like loud midbass. Actually sounds better if you stuff the port with high density foam. As always it was a real pleasure buying from Crutchfield.
Pros: Loud, powerful, and punchy mid bass. More poweful and louder than a sealed box. Easy to hook up. Lots of controls for adjusting the sound.
Cons: Not alot going on under 35 hz or so. Fairly big. More "one note" than a sealed box sub.

I changed out the radio in my 2011 Ford Taurus to a Pioneer NEX 8200 some years ago and I got this because I didn't want to play the mix and match game with finding the right amp to go with the right sub. I also just wanted to add a little more bass to my car and didn't want to lose a lot of trunk space and this fits perfectly in the truck and it doesn't have overwhelming bass.
Pros: Size
Cons: Price

Only plays 45hz
Tom from Greenville, NC on 4/1/2020
I made sure to wait a couple months to write this just to give it time to "break in". This was by far the best subwoofer I've ever bought, on paper at least. It was more expensive, claimed to be more powerful, and have the deepest frequency range reaching all the way down to 20hz. After running a sound test, if I listened carefully I could hear notes from 20-40hz. They were almost non existent though and I can't hear that while driving. Then from 40-50hz it boomed! Peaking hard around 45hz. Everything else was pretty dead. My stock sound system doesn't kick in until about 65hz so there's a dead range of notes between 50-65hz. The sound that I actually got from this sub was not as good as the old, cheap subwoofer package that I sold to buy this. Most new cars come with a stock sound system that bumps better than this. Also yes, the ground is connected to bare metal, and sitting flat and secure to the frame. This isn't my first install. I've cranked the gain and bass boost way up and the low pass is turned up to about 125hz. All that did was give me a slight boost on the other frequencies but now 45hz sounds like its going to explode. I wanted a nice addition to broaden my frequency range and all I got was a 45hz speaker.
Pros: -Easy to install and remove -Compact and clean
Cons: -Has a very narrow spectrum of deep frequencies -Not loud

This speaker hits hard. For a speaker, amp, and a ported box it cant be beat for the price. In my 2011 ranger it's all I need and I've had some systems before. Bought the 300-watt sealed and then saw this 500 ported. Had to have it. Rockford fosgate gets an A+. Great job. Now come out with a dual and I'm on it.

This thing kicks like a mule! I was able to dial-in the thump to be tight without sounding flubby and loose. This sub completes my system with solid construction, finish, and a complete matched system from one of the greatest sound pioneers.
Pros: Great sound and look. Complete system all-in-one. Quick disconnect for when I need the extra space. A lot of BANG for the buck!
Cons: None at this time

This is my second RF powered sub. I bought a 10" about four years ago. It's still going strong. So I decided to go bigger for my GMC. It's bigger than I expected, bit don't care. Bass hits awesome for what it is. And I couldn't beat the price.
Pros: Easy install, good sound for price
Cons: Other than the size. Nothing to speak of as of now.

First bought the Rockford Fosgate 10" with 300 It was great but not enough bass for me. Bought this one and it's the perfect edition to any radio system. Good, clear bass. Have a 2018 F-150 supercrew ????
Pros: Clear, crisp Bass. Can be removed easily.
Cons: You need the available room.

If you are considering this subwoofer, don't hesitate...buy it. This enclosure is worth every penny! great sound and output for an inexpensive, compact, and versatile enclosure. Sounds great with all genres, but bass-heavy music is where this sub really takes the cake.
Pros: inexpensive deep sounding bass very versatile easily removable high quality product
Cons: will slide around if not secured properly (the velcro that came with it should help a little)

This subwoofer was such a great choice because you can feel the bass in your soul! It was relatively easy to set up with help from Soundwaves in Santa Clara!
Pros: Easy and straightforward install - 1-2 hours with a professional installer or 1-2 weeks if its DIY!!!
Cons: It doesn't fit under the seat of my Honda Rigdeline, which was a little confusing. So right now it's a backseat passenger!

I have really been enjoying this powered subwoofer. This is actually the first sub I've ever owned and having some bass in my vehicle has been really fun. I put this box in a 07 F-150 cab and a half! The bass is extremely impressive for a single ported sub, This plus a Pioneer AVH-210EX and focal speaker front and rear, wow what an enormous difference over stock lol,, I like the fact the sub has its own power source! It really performs well with new type rock! From Korn two Five finger, really brings the music alive! I'm very pleased with this purchase!
Pros: Great base in a compact box, relatively affordable
