Great CD Changer.

Connected it to my system, inserted 6 CDs and it works great. I am very happy with this unit after owning for a couple days. Perfect replacement for my old non-functioning unit. It works as advertised, quick shipping from Crutchfield and overall great service. In the past I always purchased other brands I am very happy with Onkyo.

This player has a good sound (hence two stars instead of only one) but also a major flaw: About 1/2 the time it fails simply to play any of the one to six CDs I have loaded into it; I have to press open/close to reset it and/or shut it off, and that should not be the case, to get it to work. I can press play and the component does nothing. I do not want the inconvenience and expense of shipping it somewhere for repair either, so I will keep it as an emergency backup only. I also find that this player is exceptionally sensitive to vibration. My Integra CDC-3.4 fail is much more reliable.

I almost never submit a review on anything but I have to make an exception for this. My 20+ yo Magnavox CD 6 disc cartridge changer died and couldn't be repaired or replaced. Shopping around, my first stop is always Crutchfield. I do read reviews but start with the 1's/complaints. They weren't good. Went to the Onkyo website and their 1's were about the same. All the internet audiophile reviews were +*+ so I got this one. Right out of the box it was perfect. None of the stuff that other buyers complained about. Very clean sound compared to my old one. More playback volume. The disc changes are nearly soundless. I keep the discs in the original cartridges and load all 6 into the carousel when I want to listen. Or just 1 or 2. Easy and don't have to fool around with the individual jewel cases.
Pros: The remote is very functional. The front control panel is laid out well. Unlike a lot of user instruction manuals, this one actually reflects reality; ie, follow the steps and you don't have to fill in the blanks that always seem to be left out.
Cons: None that I have seen after running through a couple dozen CDs.

Hello Tim, I know that I am late in getting back to you, sorry. We've had some floods in our area and the ongoing clean-up is challenging. I appreciate your help in placing my order and your prompt response is appreciated. The Onkyo DX-C390 CD player is doing a very good job matched to my made in Japan old Midland sterio receiver AM/FM/MPX 8-track which still plays good. We really like the appearance and the way you load the cd's. I believe the carousel method is the best, I have had others. My ears are not highly trained musically, I am a farmer, but the sound is great, just what I wanted. Thank you again.

My history with this player is great

The only thing I can figure is that perhaps Onkyo has a QC problem and that's judging by the feedback showing so many negative reviews. I bought a "refurb" Onkyo DX-C390 from some outfit on Ebay about three years ago and use the player several times a week and on some weekend days it runs all day. Not a single issue. It does have the hard to see little scuff on one side proving someone at some point at least cleaned the internals or whatever passes for refurbishment nowadays. Weird, I guess one has to be careful if buying a new one or perhaps these devices have Democrat detectors built in forcing the device to fail of one is detected.
Pros: Plays CDs and sounds great for my ears anyway
Cons: The negative reviews would seem to indicate some QC issues at Onkyo.

Nice receiver but tech not so useful

Decided to upgrade from an old Yamaha shelf system and it was well worth it. The Yamaha made a huge difference in sound quality for my room. But the wireless tech and MusicCast not easy to set up and not sure at this point how useful it will be. Ended up getting new speakers and cd player to complete the set up. Very satisfied with Crutchfield and transaction and help from Crutchfield sales and techs was great before and after the sale.

Excellent sound! Very easy to operate with the remote control; loading and unloading is straight forward. My slight concern is the unit is very sensitive, when I placed a couple of CD cases on top of the unit there was a skip in the sound. When I closed a drawer in the cabinet housing the unit there was also another skip. I haven't played CDs in a player in more than 10 years, so perhaps new CD players are more sensitive to vibrations?

This is the third one I have purchased. Apparently if you use them a lot, they will wear out in about 15 years. The mechanical design hasn't changed since I purchased my first one in 1990 or 1991 and for good reason. It is a good design and would highly recommend it. The one I purchased in 2009 had a "mechanical failure", however I unbound it after I purchased another one and still works (possibly operator error)

This is my third Onkyo DX-C390 and it replaces one that lasted some 20 years. And by the way, that old one still worked but had to be replaced because the tray would only play one disc. Onkyo remains my only choice for six discs players since it is dependable and of the highest quality.

So far so good. Very good quality. Easy operation .Still miss my 25 disc PIONEER unit which I had for 29 years. You could always get your CD's out even when power was off. The Onkyo is the same width as my other components but a deeper length .. So had to do some altering and rearranging to get it to fit in.

It worked fairly well when it was new. Some issues with some CD's. I presumed it was just 40 year old discs were having problems. After 14 months, I'm ready to put it in the dumpster. When it works, it plays well. But it doesn't work very often. Skips badly. I can move the same CD to a different slot and it will play better, sometimes. After disc changes I can hear it seeking the disc. Sounds like a motorcycle revving. Eventually it does read the disc, but skips a lot. Really makes me appreciate my vinyl. Next player will be a single CD machine. Simplicity FTW.

Great player, great sound with two flaws.

An excellent player with two design flaws. But the good stuff outweighs the flaws, so it's still a great product. I had never had a multi disc player although I'm 54 and I lived through all the stages of the CD era. And I never knew what I was missing, but I'm glad I decided to spend the money on this one, because it's worth it. Sure, I have Apple Music and I can play albums non-stop until I die, but there's something cool about putting six CDs in this thing and hear the mechanism go to the next one after it finishes one. As far as the sound quality, to me it's excellent. I'm an audiophile, but not the rich kind. But I always did my best to have good Hi-Fi equipment on a budget, so I have a Sansui G-5700 with a Sansui SE-7 EQ and two Pioneer Andrew Jones towers. This combination sounds excellent to my ears, and allows me to enjoy well recorded music. My other player for this stereo is an Oppo UP-203, and to my ears both sound just as good. I'm sure that with some test CDs with different sound waves and so on I might be able to tell a difference, but what I care about is great sound for my large CD collection.
Pros: Great sound quality, space for 6 CDs, great for an afternoon of good music.
Cons: 1) It doesn't resume once you stop, at least not at the exact point it was stopped. It plays the same CD, but from the beginning. This is not a deal breaker, just a bummer. 2) It doesn't have any way to control the volume in the output, or a switch to attenuate it in any way like I've seen in some players. This is a concern for the loudest CDs with older equipment. I used to have a Sansui older than the G-5700 and the volume in CDs caused distortion at times.

Purchased this on 1/18/2017, along with a Sony receiver, installed in a dust free cabinet. It consistently played cds for 6 years and 10 months, then started having 1 - 3 second lapses during play, not skipping, and died altogether. We'll have to open it up to retrieve the disks. The only regret after purchase was that it didn't have a usb port, which other players have nowadays - and such a short lifespan.

When my old Denon Carousel CD changer finally crapped-out, I knew I wanted another. Unfortunately, Denon no longer makes a carousel CD changer. I enjoy being able to load up to six CD's into the tray and enjoy continuous music. The Onkyo DX-C390 fits the bill quite nicely. When shopping, I found most manufacturers do not make CD changers any longer. Being on a very limited budget, I decided to purchase this Onkyo piece. It works flawlessly and I am very pleased with it. (One of the unexpected bonuses was the fact that this unit almost perfectly matches my Denon audio/visual amplifier and dual cassette tape deck that were purchased with the dead Denon changer. If I were to pop off the Onkyo nameplate, you'd never know it wasn't Denon equipment). If you are in the market for a decent cd changer that will not break the back, this could be your unit. Highly recommended.

Disappointing experience

This unit is in the process of being returned. Received with no physical damage to shipping box or unit. Immediately, there were problems when the unit attempted to load a disk. It would take 10-15 seconds for the disk to load, during which time the unit made small noises like an engine trying to start. Once loaded, the track might jump from 1 to 99. Signal had static even after insuring the RCA plugs were snug.

Lots of nice features and simple to operate. The mechanism is quiet and the green light over the tray is a nice touch, makes it easier to see position number when you're loading. Seems very solid and well built. I was impressed by Onkyo's packaging and Crutchfield double boxing. The Crutchfield help booklet a nice touch. Very happy with purchase.

Very good product for the price. Connected it recently and had no issue with set up or playing cds. Have not set up or used the remote and probably never will, but I'm sure it has nice features as well. Shipping was very quick and the product was very well packed. I've been buying Onkyo products for decades. They are always great quality, long lasting and inexpensive. I believe Onkyo is the only manufacture of a multi disc player. This is money well spent. I'm half tempted to buy another and put it in the close just to have a spare multi disc player down the road.

You absolutely can't go wrong with ONKYO! I'm a big fan, and paired it with my DENON receiver, Pro-ject turntable, and Polk floor speakers. Love putting my CD's back to work -- streaming music is too limited. Happy to go back to my old school roots of vinyl and CD's. Highly recommend this ONKYO CD changer.

I have never thought that the type of cd player used would affect the sound. Digital after all is digital. But with this player the rules seem to change slightly. I find the sound more than replaces my 25-year-old Sony changer. It sounds crisper and deeper than the earlier player.

Great CD-Changer

The write-up didn't boast a 24 or 32-bit digital-to-analog converter, but the audio quality sounds great through either the analog or optical output. I love the 6-CD capacity so that I'm not constantly having to swap discs in and out. Just note, this is a deep unit with a depth of 17 inches (Crutchfield lists the depth at 18-1/4''D). The remote works anywhere in my living room, even if I'm not pointing it at the unit. The only minor drawback is that the buttons are small on the remote and unit itself. However, the positives of this unit and the price being lower than many single-disc players makes it a winner.

Nice unit, but maybe too sensitive tracking

I own two of these Onkyo CD changers. I received my newest a couple of days ago from Crutchfield. I've always thought the player was awesome, but last night I accidentally "bumped" the top of the dresser where the changer was sitting and the CD skipped. I then took my fist and LIGHTLY bumped the dresser, again, to see if I could reproduce the skip. I did. The CD player in my car (Acura 2018 RDX) now seems more robust than this Onkyo player. Moral to the story: great unit, but put it somewhere where vibrations or accidental "bumps" won't affect the CD tracking/playback. And by the way, this is a large unit. Make sure you look at the measurement to guarantee it will fit in the rack/cabinet where you want to display it.

This CD changer replaced two Sony changers that were more than 20 years old and didn't shuffle reliably. This new Onkyo simply works as intended. I would have loved a silver faceplate to match my vintage receiver, but you can't always have it all. This CD changer is deep! I needed to jigsaw a CD changer sized hole in the back of my stereo cabinet. Be aware before you purchase. It was nice saving $50 with the sale.

I had a technics 32 mash bit player that lasted 28 years with no problems. It started not responding in changing channels. I have an Onkyo receiver 28 yers old & thought an onkyo cd player would match perfectly Im Amazed at the clarity of sound quality Onkyo is so much clearer. Affordable Changer

I never owned a CD changer in my audio life before, so this is something novel. It's a great to stuff it any way you like: non-stop Xmas music, all studio album compilations by your favorite bands, etc. It works reliably, sounds as CDs should, sports gapless play, can be programmed to one's liking, and is affordable.

I got this CD Player set & plugged in. Powered it up & the cd tray came out about a third of the way and was stuck there. Called Crutchfield & spoke with a staff member (I will not mention his name) who refused to get additional help & said he would call me back in 15 minutes. The call never came back from the staff member. I called back after 2 hours & the staff member refused to speak with me & stated he was going home. Spoke with another staff member who arranged for a return. I managed to finally get the CD tray back into the unit & returned this for an exchange for another CD player which I am more than happy with. I have been buying from Crutchfield for over 30 years and this was the 1st time I was disappointed by someone on their staff. I will continue to deal with Crutchfield as they have been always business professionals with the exception of the staff member who refused to call me back & went home according to the staff member who arranged for the return. The Crutchfield team is the best. They are professionals who reflect the Ideals & values of their founder Bill Crutchfield.

CDs Sound Better with the DX-C390

The Onkyo DX-C390 was easy to set up and integrate with our existing system. The sound from our CDs was definitely better than our old player even though we have not purchased new speakers. While we have not yet tried all of the features of the Onkyo it appears to be fairly easy to learn them and put them to use.

I bought this cd player from Crutchfield 5 years ago paid $140 for it. This thing has more than tripled in price it now $349. I've had my first issue today turned it on and it displayed mechanical malfunction on the screen. It would not do anything??. So I took the lid off it took 5 minutes and it just had a cd that got loose and jammed that's it.so I guess I got lucky cause it's tripled in price??????

I have had this CD changer for some five years, maybe longer, I can't remember. It has worked flawlessly all these years and I'm very happy with it. However, it is a replacement for the first one I received. The first one was defective, it would not read the CDs. I called Crutchfield and they sent me another one, the one I've been enjoying all these years. Oddly enough, I had never read the reviews here. Today, just for the hell of it, I did, and was amazed at the number of negative one-star reviews from customers who had the same exact problem--not working right out of the box! Obviously, Onkyo had some kind of manufacturing problem, and hopefully they have taken care of it. I'm glad I gave it a second chance and got a good one thanks to Crutchfield's excellent customer service.

Wasted my money

Didn't work right out of the box. Skipped through brand new disc and others I tried. Tried shimming the front legs 1/4" and that seemed to work for a couple of days but then it went back to skipping again. Also, the discs rub a bit while spinning creating noise which is distracting when the music is quieter. Set up a return which was pretty easy and will be shipping it back today. Like another person said, 1 star for Onkyo and 5 stars for Crutchfield customer service.

Apparently I received a defective unit. This wasn't Crutchfield's fault. It was the manufacturer's. Crutchfield was excellent (Ben specifically) in trying to help me reset/reboot the unit to no avail. Ben was outstanding in setting up the return and ordering a replacement unit also. Too bad CD changers are becoming a relic!

This CD 6 disc player is a good price of equipment. It is solid built and fairly heavy. It plays commercial production cd's no problem, but also standard Redbook CD's that are created on your computer. MP3 formats are also playable. In other words, pretty much all CD formats. I want to compliment Crutchfield, because this unit was sold as a "scratch and dent" at a discount. The unit arrived with no damage, no dents, no scratches. Not a single blemish. It came with the manual and remote, everything looked brand new. I'm totally happy with this product and the Crutchfield company. They deliver beyond expectations.

It works just fine. If you had a similar 6 disc carousel in the 80s this one works the same. To note is that it is big. Much deeper than most components. Make sure it will fit in your situation. It is slow to move from disc to disc. The remote is the cheapest looking remote I have ever seen. I bought mainly because I felt someday these might not be available in the future. Now if you have all your music ripped then you can just throw it on a USB drive an plug it into the Denon 1800 AVR . First off I am loving this system. The components are listed below. In the picture the 55" TV is 48in wide and the Jamo 803 and S8 are on the left and right of the TV. The Jamo 807 are behind me and not in the picture. I chose to put them behind me because I didn't have speaker stands and the Jamo 803 fit nicely on the entertainment center. I love the sound that comes out of these speakers whether it is just stereo music or surround sound Dolby ATMOS via the Denon AVR. The price was good and I love the looks of these speakers. I'd buy them again with no hesitation. Crutchfield is awesome. I wish all sellers were as great to work with. This is a replacement for my Yamaha 5-disc player that finally decided to not open the tray anymore, and Yamaha no longer makes multiple disc changers, so we had to migrate to another manufacturer, Onkyo. This is my first experience with Onkyo, after having owned Yamaha, Technics, Teac, and a host of other components over the year. So far, we are very pleased with the performance of this CD changer.

Sound is good. Easy to set up. I do wish they made multi changer CD players a little smaller. I also miss the digital display that my old CD player had where it showed the songs on the CD and did a countdown as they played. I do like that I can add new CDs into the turntable while one is playing.

Totally happy with my new Onkyo DX-C390 CD player, the best part was I did not need a Receiver, I have Kanto YU-4 speakers that I had bought from Cruthfield about a year ago, and with the Ethereal MHX-T2 cable it plugged right into my Kanto YU-4 speaker and it was ready to GO !! High Hopes, but...

I have friends who've bought from Crutchfield for decades, so I gave it my first go. I was especially interested in the 6 CD tray. I received it in awesome timing, the package was perfect, but the player was defective. It simply couldn't recognize CDs. Even after loading 6 standard CDs into the tray, it kept saying 0 CDs loaded. Bummer. Well, so far my experience with Crutchfield is good in that the return process was easy to kick off, and the return instructions were clear and easy.
Pros: Well, all I can say is it looks good!
Cons: It powered up, lights worked, tray worked, but it could not recognize any CDs. It simply didn't work.

Multiple disc CD players are now few and far between. I was excited to order this unit, but it failed to work straight out of the box. It would not recognize that a cd was inserted-- tried each of the slots with multiple cds. Disappointing. Of course, as always, Crutchfield was great to work with and issued a refund promptly.

This is a solid player. I've used the analog input with a previous receiver and as a transport with the Yamaha amp and it sounds great with or without pure direct. I've owned it 4 years now without any problems. I've owned more expensive players and wasn't a fan of Onkyo but wanted a multiple disks player and took a chance and was surprised. I would definitely buy it again if it breaks.

I will return this item due to its sensitivity. It continues to read no disc even after following the brand recommendations for condensation. I live close to a harbor and I believe that condensation is a real issue for me. I've even tried settling it up in another location in our home. I'm really kind of bummed as I've enjoyed several other components from the same brand name. I guess I'll have to go back to using my 20 plus years old cd exchanger which is obviously not as great technology wise but I've learned a great lesson, " weather really make a difference in how it can affect newer technology. I appreciate all the support I received from Crutchfield and will definitely strongly recommend the incredible customer service and affordable pricing. Thank you.. -P

The CD changer has a large footprint so it can accommodate 6 CDs but it's also a very robust build, sturdy enough to hold my 31 lb stereo receiver on top of it. The DX-390 is very easy to use and it plays my CDs, MP3s and CD-Rs flawlessly. It was exactly what I was looking for, especially as these components become less available,

Ordered this CD changer to replace and update our old Magnavox from 1998. New one is light years ahead of the Magnavox. Made a great addition to our home audio system. No issues with the Onkyo but since it is a 6 disc changer remember to check and recheck the dimensions before purchasing.

Having a number of CD's along with a dead CD Player, I have bought a new Onkyo Model DX-C390 player and am very happy with it. Am still learning all the in's and out's of it, am definitely enjoying the full sound quality and love being able to load 6 CD's at a time. This player therefore provides me with a couple of hours of my selected music. And thank you to Crutchfield for being available to answer my questions.

Worked nicely ''right out of the box'' Then I visited family for a few months due to a need for supportive care. So 60 days became meaningless. When I returned home the unit refused to track/skipped consistently. I should have purchased the Integra changer but $100 more is a lot of $$$ when you live check to check on Social Security. I hope it can be repaired. Onkyo has had a good reputation for decades but I advise save your money and buy the Inregra CDC-3.4

worked for all of about 6 months. Won't read discs. Trouble shooting from the manual hasn't helped. I've used this player under 10 times. There really isn't any reason the unit should've stopped working this soon. Extremely disappointed in this product and the recommendation from Crutchfield to purchase it.

Shipping and packaging was excellent. It's a large unit so check the dimensions if space is tight. When I opened the disc tray a small white piece of plastic fell out. I haven't determined where it came from or if it is an issue but I set up the unit and began playing music right away. The features are nice and it seems easy to use. I have hardwood floors and a powerful subwoofer which initially caused the disc to skip. I put soft pads on the subwoofer cabinet feet and that has worked so far.

It's a great machine. The sonic differences are undeniable. The best thing was Crutchfield standing behind a damaged unit. Buy your items here folks! Why? Because when I tried to contact Onkyo all I got was the Heisman trophy move. If not for Fred at Crutchfield and their awesome policies I'd have a compromised box forever.
Pros: Exceptional remote sensitivity. Access to discs while one plays.
Cons: Big size due to function. If it's a bad one or broken Onkyo doesn't care.

My biggest complaint is the face of the machine. I need a magnifying glass and a flashlight to read the face of this machine. This is very annoying. For the performance of the machine I give it 5 stars.

Straightforward multidisk changer to replace my 20 year old unit that bit the dust. It produces good sound and is a great match to my other recently updated equipment in my media room. Unlike some of my other new equipment (which seems to require a degree in rocket science to get configured), this was easy to set up - plug in the output cable to the receiver, plug it in, and it works.

Decent but needs to last longer!

I have bought at least four of these over the years from various places. Fundamentally, it's a nice, decent sounding CD changer. Easy to use except that the random play wants to use all 6 CD slots so it can be a time consuming and irritating process - so I don't use it. However, the big problem is that the Onkyo DX-390 just doesn't last. Granted, I play a lot of CDs - but I'm getting about four years use out of the player before it just starts doing all those annoying things cranky old consumer gear does, skips, doesn't read discs, gets noisy as it goes around. And then the rotating tray and its mechanism totally dies and requires manhandling to get the CDs out. So, if you want something that lasts, look elsewhere. After all these years I've decided to use only single disc players and brands other than Onkyo. I've also got an Onkyo C-7030 single CD player that has developed similiar difficulties, although it's lasted a couple of years longer. Just ordered the NAD C538. We'll see if that lasts any longer. I'm certainly hoping so. I don't think a life span of about five years is environmentally acceptable for a CD player. I am generally fed up with the Onkyo DX-390 needing to be replaced so frequently.

I would have given this Onkyo DX-C390 CD player five stars...but it doesn't display the name of the album on it's display board. My old Technics Library Cd player displayed the name of the cd and maybe the name of the song playing...But it just retired itself so I ordered this CD player. So far plays really nice....even self recorded cds.. But the Best was I received in 2 days...and I chatted with "Victor" about setting it up....He was SUPER GREAT! Very patient...

IT'S GOOD - BUT

This six-changer Onkyo replaced a twenty five year old Sony five changer that worked well until its final year. Anyone who has recently shopped for a multi-changer CD player knows the choices are few and far apart thus, I now own an Onkyo. It seems like a good unit but allow me to explain why four stars instead of five. Hook-up was simple and the instructions were fine but the CD tray would not shift into position. I had to help it with a little pushing while pressing the shift button. After the initial two or three instances it seems to have corrected itself and is now working as it should. One doesn't expect this from a new product. The other reason for the less than perfect rating is the readout information. My Sony would display the bay number, total tracks on the playing CD, the number of the track currently playing, and the time used on the playing track. This unit does not show the remaining tracks or the time used. Is it a big deal -no. But after 25 years I have gotten use to seeing this type of information. Also when playing multiple discs using random, the search process probably takes twice longer than with my previous unit. However, most importantly, can this Onkyo last 25 years? We'll see.

Remarkable CD Player

As the widow of an audiophile, I am intimidated every time I have to move, replace, and connect any audio equipment. I decided to add a CD changer to the mix. After reading several reviews, I ordered the Onkyo DX-C390 from an online retailer. Twice I had to return for credit due to issues. The unit I ordered from Crutchfield, at a cheaper price was received and setup with no problems. So I am able to listen to my library of CD's and highly recommend this unit and will continue as a satisfied Crutchfield customer.

I Decide to buy this CD changer after my old Toshiba VHS/DVD player combo, start, give me some problems playing my CDs, I was considered buying a Panasonic Blu-ray unit, which I like it, but my receiver is Onkyo, so the Panasonic was no good choice, mainly because, this time I want something of the same brand, So this CD changer offer what I was looking, besides playing my CDs, also is an MP3 player, play different decodes of audio, and also it matches perfect my receiver, I'm happy that I can listen my CDs again, the sound is no the same when you hear on a stream service, and with $100 rebate, could be a better decision,

My 30 year old Sony CDP-C615 5-disk CD changer failed again after less than 2 years since the last repair, so I decided it was time to give up and buy new. (That was once the top of the line Sony changer.) There are now few options out there. The Onkyo DX-C390 6-disk changer appeared to be the best option and after owning and operating it for a week, I'm satisfied. It doesn't have any frills, besides being able to change CDs in 5 slots while the 6th is playing, which is something the Sony could not do. The user manual is weak - - for example, it didn't explain how to get the changer fully unloaded of all 6 CDs - - it is a bit complicated to unload the last CD that is in the "play" position. I don't like that it has a red light on the front that shines when the unit is not being used - - totally unnecessary. The only "frill" from the old Sony that I really miss is the fader button, which automatically faded the sound level to zero without adjusting the volume on the amp - - nice for shutting down in mid-track. Everything else works as expected. The unit is reasonably quiet during disc change. The display is nice - - rather large, so relatively easy to read even in a darkened room. Overall, this is a solid basic CD changer. Given the paltry competition, I have no regrets.

I bought this unit to replace an older, 5 disc CD changer. The ability to play MP3's was a big plus in my decision to buy this player. Also, since this is a newer changer, it has digital output so you can add a DAC if you wanted to: something the older changer didn't have. Seems to be well-made. I like the "next selection" feature, too. I'm glad I bought this. No regrets. If you're going to mount this in a rack, make sure it will fit, it is a deep unit.

Deck is very nice, a good value for $250. It doesn't have HDMI output, and doesn't appear to support AAC, which gets it docked a star. Seems to read ripped MP3's fine as well as burnt CD's. Weighs quite a bit more than the absolutely terrific Pioneer DV-C503 it is replacing. Hopefully that extra heftiness translates into solid drive mechanics and long life. Crutchfield shipped right before XMAS and made a delivery date that I was highly skeptical would be met. Kudos to their inventory and shipping logistics.

Cons: Remote isn't backlit, that would be nice. No HDMI out. Very low end cables included, highly recommend buying your own.

Attractive and functions as advertised. I have 1 issue that concerns me. It skips playback when a vibration - heavy footsteps occur near the entertainment system it is housed in. I am looking into solving the problem.

I am replacing a Sony player that I have been using for over 30 years. Set up was a piece of cake, I was listening to music within 15 minutes of taking the unit out of the box. This is a nice CD player, with great sound. It is a little large, so make sure you measure your depth for where you plan to place it. The tray will come out another 4 or five inches beyond the front-to-back cabinet measurement. We had to turn it sideways on our cabinet shelf, but since it has a remote it is still easy to use. Very glad we purchased it.

My first purchase from Crutchfield was painless. Delivery was fast and CD player was packaged properly and wrapped in blue plastic for security so that looking at the box you can't identify its contents. I hooked up my CD player to a Sony multi-channel AV receiver, STR-DH590 via a coaxial cable which was separately purchased. My speakers are JBL Studio 5 series bookshelf speakers.The CD unit is humongous, however, it's not a dealbreaker. I have now been playing my CD collection, which was stored away for a long time. It is great to hear my music on this unit. I am not an audiophile and have recently bought my equipment. Still learning what I can do with system.

The product arrived in pristine condition. It was wrapped in a protective layer of plastic. Unpacked it was a breeze to install in my system. Works perfectly. Everything went as advertised. Crutchfield even sent along a sheet of sticker to apply to cables in my system to mark them as to what they connected. Best customer service I have encountered.

This unit is fantastic! We had a Sony 5 disc CD player (until we didn't!) and we loved it. This player is a 6 CD player that allows you to change/add discs while it is playing and another great feature is that it will shuffle ALL CD's not just the CD that is playing. The price was fantastic, the virtual help was great and delivered in two days! We haven't had it long, but we are so thrilled with our purchase and would highly recommend the player, and especially Crutchfield for everything they did!

I had a HK FL8550 that was replaced by this. The HK had a few more bells and whistles than the Onkyo, but I'm pleased with the Onkyo. Have only had it for a short while so it's hard to give it a full review. As always Crutchfield shipped it right out and I was up and running in no time.

You cannot find many CD players these days at a descent price, much less multi-disk. This one fits the bill for me and my CD collection of over 2,000. Streaming is a great thing, but sometimes playing a disk is what I need. Putting 6 albums in the player on shuffle and just forget about it for hours, that is the ticket. MIKE

Our old Denon 5 Disc changer finally stopped working after nearly 27 years. I was searching and found this fantastic new unit. I really love the display of its glowing green lights and green display light. Its very quiet when it changes discs. Very simple set up, maybe two minutes. The remote is full featured too. I am very happy with this Onkyo DX-390 unit. Price was just discounted and Crutchfield had it to me with free shipping in two days.

Good Multi-disc player

Good unit with decent sound, for a multi-disc player, which was purchased for my wife to replace a similar Onkyo player, which was probably at least 15 years old and still works mechanically, but replaced because it periodically drops a channel. For first time buyers, be aware this unit is BIG, very deep and may not fit in all circumstances. The blue light above the disc tray is distracting, a bit annoying and seems to serve no real function. Overall, if a multi-disc player is what you want, you cannot go wrong with this unit.

My first multi disc CD player

I purchased this product to replace a 3 year old Single disc TEAC. I was able to setup and have running pretty quick. I'm using this a transport to an external DAC via the optical cable. With the price drop it's a fantastic value.
Pros: Fantastic value for a name brand product.
Cons: I wish I could power it off and it not go into standby mode. Seems like a waste of electricity.

A new beginning to the past.

In 1990 I got a 5 unit cabinet with floor standing speakers Onkyo stereo system with each component separate (turntable, am/fm radio unit, receiver, dual tape deck, 5 disc CD changer with the Onkyo speakers) for a birthday gift. Still to this day it is the absolutely best system I've ever heard with crisp clear sound. I had to regrettably get rid of it 23 years ago and have been wanting to only this brand once again. Well it's impossible to duplicate what I had and this CD player is a great beginning. To me everything about this unit is flawless. Onkyo makes great products and wish they made the same but updated items like from 1990. You will be pleased with this unit and the quality of sound you'll hear. I really think this is a top notch CD player/changer.
Pros: Everything is perfect with this unit. Price is perfectly right especially with $100 off.

So far so good, I've only owned this for a couple of weeks now. Everything seems to work as it should, it was basically just plug and play. This Onkyo is replacing my old Onkyo DX-C606 that lasted many years, hoping for the same from this unit.

Cons: I wish green light was dimmable in steps as the display is. The only option now is either on or off.

All the stores close to me said a multi disk player MIGHT be available on-line but that nobody was using them anymore because vinyl is now the IN- thing. I have dozens of CDs that I like to hear!! Jason in the Charlottesville store was very gracious and helpful! He even carried it to my car for me! I am once again enjoying my CDs. Thank you, Jason in Charlottesville! product came to my PO box fast, well wrapped. no damage in shipment as I unwrapped it. easy install, and it works f ine----and sounds FANTASTIC ! maybe an upgrade over a 10 yr model, and so far no skipping on old/damaged cds.......it pays to upgrade! I am old school and could not imagine not having my cd collection---I keep in binders in home, to save space. jewel case and paper work(most)= to the recycle yard.

Sometimes I can get it to play on 1 & 2 slots. Never on 3-6. New CD'S, try to clean the lens with cleaning disc. Won't even play them. Shows no sign of being damaged. Even when it does play, it skips. As soon as I figure out how, I'm sending it back.

I bought this CD Changer 3/17/2008 for $109.00. It started failing last year. I think I got my monies worth, almost 13 years of good use and one year of not so good use. On weekends and holidays this thing would play 6 to 16 hours a day. Awesome machine.

Wow, easy to add to my system and love the remote control. Must admit that I did not read the instructions, yet took only a few minutes to add to my system. Loaded into the 5 disc and was listening to everything from Harry Styles, to Adele, to Christian rock. Nice workmanship. Packaging was great too.

Thanks to a friend of mine he told me about this brand and after my stereo of 28 years quit I needed a new system and was having a hard time finding a multiple disk player till I found out about this one and the Integra which is like getting a Lexus just a few more whistles anyway this is a great player and quiet and so easy to use and loading the disks and when you need to load more after the first you just hit skip disk and it rotates to the next 2 I like the style of this unit and would highly recommend this one.

I started to put together an audio system in my living room (NO VIDEO SCREEN) and took the 5 disc Sony ES CD player I bought in the early mid 90s out of the closet and plugged it into my much newer system. It plays a CD well enough but the platter sounds like it will die sooner than later each time I change CDs or push the button to replace the CDs. It has gotten stuck a couple times trying to open. Since I have bunches of music on CD and many CDs not on vinyl, I needed a new CD player. This one wasn't "too expensive," had all three output methods, and lets me change CDs while listen to one. I previously had a Bose Wave II system with a 5 cd changer; it took me several minutes to realize I could load 6 cds in my Onkyo DX-C390. The Onkyo was an easy and quick attach to my sound bar. I could not find specific directions on how to turn off the system, just took some practice.

I was on a waiting list for this unit. It was well worth the wait and the price. I noted it sold from others online but i will only buy my electronics from Crutchfield. No disappointments on return policy and exceptional customer service. It's not easy locating a 6 CD player. This unit was an easy pair to my Yamaha Receiver that I purchased through Crutchfield as well along with my speakers. All units arrived at my door in perfect condition, well packaged. This unit has the ability to dim the glowing lights which is a nice option. My picture is with the lights on high, you can reduce to dark no glow on the access door. Thanks Crutchfield for the ability to get on a wait list and quick delivery.

Quick shipping; best price!
Our 25-year old 5-disc CD player died in 2020. We tried having it repaired locally but without success. There were very few new multi-disc players available (old-school tech & pandemic supply-chain issues) without a huge price-tag. We hooked up an old boombox to the stereo system but didn't care for the inconvenience of changing out the CDs (We understand the advantage of streaming, but we live in the boondocks & internet is expensive, slow, & spotty sometimes.) We signed-up for a notice when this player became available, we missed out on the 1st availability, but got it on the 2nd. We're back to the convenience of a multiple CD-player & at a much more reasonable cost than at other on-line retailers. Thanks Crutchfield!

Excellent sounding CD player. Not sure what DAC they use, but it sounds great! Machine is also smooth and quiet in operation. Only quibble is that it's huge, so make sure you have plenty of shelf space.

My older Onkyo CD player finally stopped working after many years of good service. I bought this as a replacement and was not disappointed. It sounds even better than my old one while working with all my other gear. It even still worked with the remote! Amazing! And you can feel from the workmanship of the unit that this one will give me nay years of listening pleasure. It just goes to show how a quality company like Onkyo never stopped caring about making high quality equipment for audiophiles and CD lover out there. Thanks!

Just received, so still getting used to it. Was super easy to hook up...probably the only purchase I didn't have to call Crutchfield for help. The entire carousel comes out and you advance it with a button. Buttons are small, as is the type. Had to add an electric strip so I can turn it off completely, or it stays in standby mode. Obviously, I'm older and didn't want the hassle of streaming/WIFI connections/etc. I was just happy I could even GET a multi-disc player. My last one was able to make copies of CDs and LPs for compilations, but I'm happy be able to play my CDs again.

Stops playing after 4 tracks when using the random play. Then I have to push random play again. When I have 6 CD's loaded it plays about 4 random songs before stopping. Very annoying! When I get it to play it sounds great. Will I return it? No, my time is to valuable to deal with all that crap. It does play good when I catch it in a good mood.

Only about 10 hours of use, but it seems to do what I hoped. It is a simple streamlined CD player, without any other bells and whistles. But stuff like this seems to always work reliably. One consideration: my past CD players had the 6-CD cartridges. This one is the carousel design, requires a lot more depth in the stereo cabinet, and I had to revise the cabinet a bit to accept this larger footprint. A year from now I may rate it 5 stars. For now I'm being conservative.

This is my 1st purchase with Crutchfield! I spoke with Stone who made the ease of placing my first time order for this Onkyo DX-C390 6 disc player. I was able to track my delivery with ease & it was delivered on the day I was told it would come. The UPS guy placed it directly into my hands. It only took 5 minutes to hook it up to my receiver, I loaded 6 CD's into it and it has been playing amazingly. Music sound is absolutely great and this disc player is a beautiful piece of equipment. The hand remote it came with is also a nice feature to have. I can honestly say with great confidence that I was very impressed with Crutchfield from the beginning to end of this purchase, and believe that this will be my Go To place to order all my audio and video products. Onkyo is a reliable and affordable brand name, and this unit is a workhorse. It plays factory manufactured CDs and ones that I burned. Operating the CD changer is simple, clear and intuitive, and the sound is very good, considering my amp and speakers are not exactly upper end. The folks at Crutchfield were really good to work with. I spoke with a guy named Levi who was knowledgeable about the DX-C390 as well as other CD changers they carry and the pros and cons of each. He made me very comfortable ordering online, something I don't normally do, particularly electronics. I was supposed to get it delivered via UPS in about three day, but weather caused delays. Not Crutchfield's fault. Nevertheless, the unit arrived well packed and in perfect shape. I highly recommend Crutchfield, which I know has been in business a long time, and they stand behind their products. Count me as a happy customer who has no hesitation ordering from them again.

I had NO idea how difficult it would be to find a multi-disc CD player that worked as a component in an existing system. But, then, lots of things were difficult to find in 2020! Luckily, Crutchfield came through for me, both with the product, and the timely delivery. The device is exactly what I wanted. It was an easy install. Best, it holds 6 discs, where our old one only held 5. One important feature for me was the ability to randomly shuffle all songs. It does a great job of that, although the shuffle movement is a bit loud. I couldn't be happier!

I purchased this several months ago, even though it was not in stock, and the estimated in-stock date was pushed out once. I hooked it up, and it would not play all of any of the first 6 CD'd I put in (all discs were pristine and two almost brand new from major labels). I'd read reviews indicating that the unit was unreliable, but because of the difficulty in finding multi-disc players I took a chance. I called Crutchfield and they e-mailed me a prepaid return label. My card has been credited, but now I am still searching for a replacement. one star for the unit but 5 stars for Crutchfield.

A little vintage, a little modern. I installed the Onkyo DX-C90 to my home office stereo rack. I've been using it almost constantly since then. CD's are sounding great. And it's great to have the convenience of the 6 CD carousel when I want to listen to CDs. The greenish light on the unit is a nice touch. The vintage is a Thorens turntable and you might also see the original Advent speakers. The modern is the newer Onkyo AV receiver also from Crutchfield. There's also a Tivoli BT radio tucked in that's a little modern and vintage at the same time. I recommend this product.

This by far is the best CD player I ever had sound quality is crisp, and clear, set up was easy. Instruction are clear and precise. This is a perfect addition to my steroid system, and the last up grade to it. If you are looking for a great replacement CD player this is it, try not to over look this item. Glad I purchased this CD player great replacement.

I like the product (hard to find CD players these days), but disappointed it will not read many of my CDs, not sure why, doesn't matter if old or new, some pristine discs will not play at all, although they worked fine on my old SONY player.

Great CD player!

I ordered this CD player when my old one basically died. I was already aware of the Onkyo brand; my Home Theater system is an Onkyo one and works and plays beautifully. The price was nice, too. When I first plugged it in; the player did everything it was supposed to; but, no music was heard. I unplugged the old audio cord and installed the new cord packed with the CD player. I turned on the CD and receiver; and, now I could hear the CD. I put several CDs in the tray to check how well it handles and plays that way. It had no problems and changed to a new disc just fine. I look forward to many years of listening to music with this player.
Pros: Manual is well written and easy to follow and read.
Cons: It is a little large; but, it is also a 6 disc player. That does mean that it is larger than my old 5 disc CD player.

This is one of the best choices I have made in up grading my stereo system. The quality of the sound reproduction, although is manly do to the amplifier and my speakers, is still out standing. The addition of a sixth disc to my system has made it a real pleasure to sit back relax and enjoy the music.

Needed to replace my old multi-disk player which played only CD format for one that plays MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, etc. This one had the additional bonus of holding 6 CDs instead of 5. I'm very pleased with how straightforward the controls are and the sound is perfect. It's bigger than my previous unit to allow for those 6 CDs, so i had to do some modifications to my media cabinet to accommodate its depth.

Cons: Very deep. Make sure you measure your media space to ensure it can accommodate this before purchasing.

Problem early on

Everything seemed fine for the first month or so. But now, after about 6 months sometimes it doesn't move on to the next disc to be played. Not a huge deal, but certainly doesn't work like it should. Especially being a fairly new purchase. Should I have contacted Crutchfield right away? Sure, but thought may of been the disc. It's my first Onkyo product and it will be my last. This CD Changer was recommended by a Crutchfield associate and usually I get great advice. This time, not so much. If they'd take it back and let me upgrade, I would do that in a heartbeat.

Bought one 1/30/19. It will not shuffle anymore. Taking it to an Onkyo repair center. Hopefully it can be fixed?? Otherwise I like the CD player.

We've had it two years but have barely used it due to its issues. Our problems started within a few months. Sometimes it will load and play well, but most of the time it comes up with a "Mech error" even when all CDs are in their slots and have played without issue. It won't eject, skip disc, or play. However, after powering off & on a few times and cycling through all the buttons randomly, it will suddenly resume playing. I just disconnected it entirely and should have done so sooner. Do not waste your money.

I ordered using the internet site. I also used the 'chat' feature to get answers to my questions which worked really well. The unit came even before the date I was expecting it to. CD Changers are hard to find these days. It's a shame because there are still a lot of new and used CD's out there. CD Changers are simply a convenient and a nice way to enjoy music. I replaced a 1998 Pioneer 100 Disc Changer with this DX-C390 and it looks right at home with the other Pioneer components in my Rack System. Everyone from Sinatra to Thomas Rhett are handled well by this unit. Not bad for a modest priced unit.

CD player does everything you expect in a very intuitive manner. I do not use the remote however it also appears very simple to use. It is a very quiet operating unit and random play with 6 discs provides for fun and spontaneous playlists. The only downside to this unit so far is the size, it is very large, as in wide and deep. Size is the only reason I gave it four stars versus five.

Early Sunday Morning Impressions

The player seems fine and does whet I bought it for, to play cd's. It seems to have plenty of bells & whistles, non of which I've experimented with, yet. So, maybe I overbought? Or, maybe I'll get to playing with it when the darkness and cold of winter drives me to boredom. So, if you are in your 70's and worried about being bored, this unit, might make your day when they get short. Urg, I didn't mean it that way. My wife asked, is that all it does? I guess being large solicited that question and I explained that it holds 6 cd's which seemed to satisfy her. So, yea, it seems OK. I did notice it played a bit crisper than the 20 year old Sony which would be a weighted comparison and one I probably shouldn't have mentioned. My ears are shot from that Who concert and tuning two cycle race bikes, also. It's all a crap shoot for me and as I've only played it once, I am probably not qualified but wanted the $350 buying spree for writing a little. Thanks for reading, Have a good day. PS: I may haul it to the garage so I can educate the neighbors if they are not familiar with Santana or The Who, Stones, Grateful Dead, David Allen Coe, The Animals, Byrds, oops that's 6. I now see it's limitations. Maybe I should have gotten the 50 cd loader, but it seems the more you ask of machinery, the more likely it is to let you down. Changing cd's every 9 hours might get tiring. but you won't be bored.

Very nice unit with excellent sound. I know some audiophiles don't think CD changers are as good as single play units. But I like the convenience of a changer. Very nice display that is very readable and understandable. Much better than my old Yamaha 5 disc changer. Very easy to install and I like the remote.

This is a nice and very affordable replacement for my old Pioneer 12 disc player that recently quit. The sound out of the Onkyo is noticeably better than my Pioneer player that dates from 1993. The only small knock on the Onkyo is its random mode, which is a little slow picking discs, but other than that I really like and recommend this unit!

Works great! Sounds great! I had to cut a hole in the back of my cabinet to fit this big boy into the space of previous unit. Check your depth before ordering. The box looked like hell when I received it -mashed in on one side, but the packaging was strong enough to protect the player from shipper's mishandling. I am enjoying the random play feature. Replacing a Yamaha CDC745 that I bought in the 90s, didn't expect it to be so big. I guess going from a 5 disc to a 6 disc it needs the extra space. Works great, easy to hookup, had to rearrange my rack due to the size of the unit. A little noisier than expected but not concerned with that, due to being in another room. Price was definitely right. Once again, River from Crutchfield was awesome with her recommendation.

I purchased this unit after buying a used player that would not play some of my burned cd's. I have friends who bought items from Crutchfield and raved about how their customer service was excellent, as well as their products, and support. So I purchased this cd player. I LOVE IT! It sounds terrific with my stereo system. I also truly like being able to play my music for quite awhile without having to reload after one cd. From now on, any of my electronic purchases will be done through Crutchfield.

Onkyo and Crutchfield Again

This is our second unit as the first started failing after about 12 years. It had worked flawless up that point and we missed not having a good multi disc system so we looked at what was available and came right back to the same model. Physically it's changed a bit in size but the same unit altogether as best I can tell. My wife loads it with 6 disks and we get hours of music without having to bother again. And then there's the Crutchfield personnel that make buying from them a great experience back by quality service if needed.

Got this to replace an old Technics (25+ years) just before Xmas. Easy setup. It is a big box, so make sure it will fit in your cabinet/rack as dimensions in the write up are accurate. Sound through my old (1977) Sansui receiver is great. Random function worked perfectly through a five hour holiday party. Hope this one lasts as long as the old one; they just don't seem to be making things as well anymore.

5 minute easy hookup to my analog circa 1985 receiver. Loaded 6 disks, picked the random setting and it worked like a charm. Great sound. There is a bit of lag between songs on the random setting as it sets up for the next song; not annoying, just unexpected. I can't comment on its longevity as I've only had it 3 weeks, but it seems to be a quality item. Arrived a day earlier than quoted by Crutchfield. I'm very happy with the unit.

My 18 year old CD changer was acting up and not reading or playing some CD's that it had previously. I decided to purchase the Onkyo since I already have their brand receiver and have been very happy with it. So far I am very pleased with this new changer, the sound quality is fuller and warmer. It seems that the technology has improved over the years. Also, the price from Crutchfield was very good and I know that if I require any tech help it will be available.

This is a replacement for an Onkyo 6 Disc player that was purchased in 1994. The original player was beginning to skip playing . Having made previous purchases with Crutchfield, I checked out their site and found the DX-C390 which was on sale. However I hesitated in buying and the sale ended. Patience paid off. I later received a rewards notification and applied that to my purchase which just went back on sale. I ordered on line and received the player on the date promised. I had previously pulled up the instruction pdf and was able to familiarize myself with the players function before it arrived. Installed the player and it works perfectly. The annoying skips are gone and we enjoy quality sounding music. This is my fourth purchase from Crutchfield. Since I knew exactly what I wanted, I did not need to contact customer service to finalize the purchase. Great prices. Highly recommend Crutchfield for future purchases.

I already have an Onkyo XX c390 -6 carousel cd player - still in fine working order - I ordered another one excited that I could still get a 6 cd carousel - this one is for my workroom which is great not having to deal with a 1 disk player - this is perfect for my overall extensive CD collection - this player does not play Blu-ray which does not concern me at all - that Claire is for the big stereo in the music room - I haven't had any problems with the CD player I think it's a great bye and a great find still thanks two Crutchfield - I see five stars - easy set up sounds great

Excellent CD player.

I love my new CD player. I had an older model Onkyo CD player that I'd had for several years so wanted to upgrade to this new model. I especially like all the new features this one has that my old model didn't. The light in the front is especially handy as it brightens as the CD tray opens so the CD numbers are easier to see. The player is very easy to hook up, as well. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this player. Thank you.

This is replacing the 2nd of 2 previous Sony multi-disc players. Both lasted 22 yrs total. Everything with the Onkyo player is just fine, made it part of my Bose 5.1 system. First time with the brand, totally satisfied with the ease of operation. Simple enough with really good tech for the price. 6 CD player is a bit large for the space it's in...but it's playing great. I'll give it 12 to 15 yrs use. Lots of use.....
Pros: Very clean sound as this has become part of a 5.1 system.
Cons: Other than being a bit larger CD player for the cabinet it's in....no....none.

The Onkyo replaced a well-worn Sony from the dark ages. Transitions from disc to disc are smooth and channel separation is greatly improved, along with far greater clarity for both vocals and instruments. My CD collection has come back to life.

This cd player sounds good enough to be a feature component in your system. Although not top notch I was really surprised by the sound, and I like the fact that it's a multi disk player. (very convenient) price is right, I recommend it!

I had a bacd feeling about buy this,boy i was right,every time u bump anything close to it,it fowls up,junk,sound not nearly as good as 7030 onkyo,slow as dirt on continuous random play,very unhappy i should send this junk back,the 7030 cant be beat in any cd player,unless you spend close to 500.00,i hear vocal distortion at times,never ever heard that kind of stuff,saving my money im gonna go back to a solid proven design,i bet i could knock on that 7030 and it would never skip a beative had this about 2 months pulling my hair out.

I purchased this and a new Yamaha R-N303 receiver to upgrade from a 24 year old Sony I have. This disc changer is nice and smooth and works as it should. I purchased this one cheaper from "scratch and dent" but the only scratches or dents I saw were on the box it came in. I left a review for the receiver as well. The one on one advisers were very kind and helpful. Great service and great deal on stereo upgrade! Thanks a million!

The Onkyo DX-C390 provides clear sound with flexibility of playback options. I just wish it had a headphone jack. I had to rig one with RCA plugs to 1/4".

Only 4 stars because of the size of the player. It is deeper than most and I had to remove part of the back of my entertainment cabinet so it would not stick out 2 inches past the front.
Pros: Sounds better than the one I replaced.
Cons: It is bigger than the one I had and almost didn't fit into my entertainment cabinet. I had to do some rearranging to say the least and had to modify my entertainment center in the back.

My Onkyo CD player arrived on time but was too big for my space. I should have paid closer attention to the dims during the purchase process. The return process was very easy and today my credit card was credited with the purchase price. Crutchfield sent a smaller and higher quality unit to me last week, on time and it's perfect for my needs. Good experience all around!

Pleased with the ease of set-up and getting discs playing through this changer to my old Fisher system and floor mounted 3-way speakers. the biggest treat for me is playing "fabulous mix" music from discs created in iTunes. I tried the direct hook up from iMac to Fisher and the sound was so muted I gave it up. The changer has bridged a long term gap in my enjoying wide-ranging music

This is a nice modern unit but simple so it fits with my really old stuff brididgeing the tech gap . cd/mp3/ ipod all working now on my system where radio signal is not very pure . I am getting great sound ! You were helpful and I did get the sale price that came out after my purchase which was another bonus .

The CD player is what I was looking for. It does a great job of playing the CDs and the changer thing is very slick. It enables me to change disks while the thing is playing another, and I really like the random selection, allowing it to select tracks for all the disks in some order who knows? It has brought back music listening for me which went away when my old Pioneer changer bit the dust. Only slight problem is that it seems quite sensitive to vibrations and loses one channel when the door to my cabinet happens to bang shut a little hard. If it persists, I'll contact Crutchfield.

This player is everything I hoped for. Plus, it is nice looking. I put in 6 discs, randomly play and after a few days, put in 6 more. I am listening to CD's I haven't heard in years. It is great.
Pros: Simple to set up, even for me.
Cons: The random switching is a little loud and not quick, but this is a small con and probably unavoidable.

Never realized what a difference a good CD player makes

We have a 25 year old "stereo" unit with CD player, radio receiver and amplifier. A few years ago we attached a new set of speakers, which made a marginal improvement. Recently the CD player crapped out and we got this unit to replace it. Actually we would have been happy with a single disc player, but since this 5 disc unit was the same price, we got it. What a difference! Suddenly those new speakers put out sound that was many times richer than what we had been hearing. It was like going from ear buds to real speakers. We're not audiophiles, and it never had occurred to us that the CD players was the restricting element on the sound. And I have to admit that although we never minded having to get up and change discs every time one was done, it's pretty cool letting the changer do the work.

Well-built, smooth-operating, quality machine at any price (though this one is very reasonable). Be prepared for the size - it is a fairly big unit, but for quality of performance with CD and MP3 discs, it is superb. I have not found a single disc that will not load and play, even the oldest and most sketchy ones from years past.
Pros: Capacity (6 discs), quietness of operation, efficient and faithful playing of CDs, clarity of signal to amp, price.
Cons: The ONLY thing one might quibble about is the unit's size but it is a MINOR quibble at best!

Not worth the hassle

I really liked this CD player. I bought it in June of 2017 and it worked great. It's now January of 2018, and half the time, it won't play a given disc. This issue began about a month ago. I have to open it, shuffle it, close it, and then MAYBE that given CD will play. Other times, I have to shut it off and start it again. Each of these times, I have to do it several times before the player will recognize a disc. Never again will I buy an Onkyo product.

This CD player is a good value. I like the fact that the tray can be opened without interrupting the cd that is being played. The only negative is in the depth of the player, as mentioned in previous reviews. It sticks out past the receiver that it is stacked with.

I only gave a 4 star because I haven't used this CD player very much today. I have always loved Onkyo components, and this didn't disappoint. While the price is minimal, the unit is not. I have this connected to my upstair whole house sound system, so multiple CD players were desirous.

Cons: Seems lightly built- but comparable to the 15 year old unit I replace.

Replacement for a previous CD Changer. I guess these CD chnagers are becoming outmoded but I still like CD recordings and the ability to have multiple CDs played randomly. I bought this based on three factors in order: Price, Features, Brand. It has not - so far - disappointed although I am still getting used to it. As others have noted, this is a large unit and may not fit in confined enclosures well. It is also a little noisy when changing discs. This is a 5 star unit for the price and overall a 4 star unit because of these minor items. Otherwise, very happy with the purchase (so far).

Bargain CD Player with Top End Sound!

I saw the great reviews and thought I would make the purchase. I can tell you that I have been loving this CD player ever since! The sound is impressive. I've got this plugged into my "old school rig", an older Carver amp and some Advent speakers, and the sound coming out of this CD player is far and away better than anything else (phono, HD radio, Bluetooth, etc.) I have! If you really want to hear some impressive sound coming out of this box... I'd strongly suggest Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds - Live at Radio City to really feel the full effect of this monster!

Great player at a bargain price

Glad at least a few CD changers are still available out there. MP3 is all well and good, but it's a compressed format - you can't take 650MB of music and condense it to one-tenth of that without losing something. A lot of something. Like another reviewer, I had an older unit (12 years) that had to be "coaxed" to close its drawer. It also got confused by the unusual formatting of a couple of my CD's, whereas the Onkyo swallows them quite happily. This Onkyo player is a bargain, and is performing flawlessly. Disc change times are fairly quick, and not unusually noisy. Nice to be able to swap out discs while one is playing, too, something my old unit wouldn't do.
Pros: Smooth operation. Handles even some unusual formats. Can swap discs while one is playing.
Cons: Unit is deep, as others have warned. My old one was just as deep, but a lot of cabinets won't take it without some surgery.

Nice to have CDs again

Started to miss our CDs on the home theather. Old DVD player would allow us to do a singel CD, but BlueRay player would not, so bought this CD changer and connected it with the optical cable. Sounds really great. Used a Logitech Harmony universal remote to get all components talking to each other again. First time I have truly had a universal remote for this system. Gil Frey Surry, VA

It is a wonderful CD player! I needed a CD player with an optical output and this meet just my needs. It has a very fast random function which is great when you are listening too mutiple CDs. It is relatively quiet and doesn't clung around like the old ones. It is way too use and a nice CD player!

The 6-CD player has been working well all day, every day, with Christmas music. I put in the trash a 300-CD Sony player that could hardly get through one song without messing it up. After playing all the old CDs on the new Onkyo, I found only one CD had been damaged. I was so delighted with the new Onkyo that I bought 10 more Christmas CDs. Great multi-disk unit. Good sound. CD drive is very quiet. Controls are very well laid out on the front panel and remote. A little noisy when changing disks in random mode. The unit is quite large (as pointed out in other reviews.) I suggest checking the specs and your intended installation location to be sure

The Onkyo arrived within 3 days without any damages/issues. I had it hooked up to my 1980's Technics amp within minutes and was playing CD tunes. Sounds great and met all my expectations. Its front panel is easy to use and provides the needed 'bells & whistles". Additionally, I received an email from "Jimmy and Rosey" immediately after my purchase letting me know that he, personally, could be contacted if any issues ensued. A very nice touch. I got it from Crutchfield last December 2016 and used it probably less than 20 hours and it is in brand new condition. This September 2017 it suddenly stopped reading discs and no amount of unplugging/plugging in would bring it back on line. Onkyo wants me to send it to New Jersey for repair under warranty which I've decided against because of not having the original box and packing and shipping costs of around thirty to forty dollars. Today I'm going to throw it in a dumpster at a local shopping center.

Just received ,Yesterday (SAT) earlier than expected - :) I will start with this I have been using Crutchfield since about 1983-85 - Outstanding service .product selection and technical expertise and information. On to the Onkyo DX-C390, Installed on to a LBT-GPX555 shortly after arrival - Realizing I have pone foot in 21'st Century Home tech and 20th I ma happy to say connection and function are flawless at this point. I have more than 300 CD's of which 80% are home burnt CDR+/_ etc. spent about 6 hours playing everything from Bob Seger , Led Zeppelin, Clapton, Cream (67-680 OH MY_) ,Blackberry Smoke etc. all played fine and let me grab my Les Paul and Fender to jam with - As CD's are going the way of 8 Tracks a6t a furious pace I suggest you grab one of these quickly maybe two one for back up as multi-disc changers under$ 300-500are very hard to find at this point and within as year will likely be gone. Too soon to rate longevity but at embarkation highly satisfied

I purchased this CD player because my 25 year old Kenwood gave up. I read all the reviews on this product that were favorable in my decision. I have only had this product for a few weeks but have had no problems and the sound is great. I have purchased many products from Crutchfield and always very satisfied.

This is a good sturdy basic CD player. I like that you can load 6 discs at a time. Like all CD changers that I've seen this product has a deeper dimension than the other products, but I built my own shelf for this and it was not as much of a concern for me.

Cons: Like all CD changers, this product has a deeper dimension than most of your other units of the system, so you need to make sure you have enough depth to your cabinet.

A "sound" decision to buy the Onkyo DX-C390

5 Stars for Onkyo - 6 Stars for Crutchfield :-) The Onkyo DX-C390 appears to be well built, feels good from weight and stability. While moving through the carousel, the unit is pretty quiet and shouldn't be a disturbance to a relaxing evening of listening. Sound quality using the digital output is better than my ears can hear. Analog outputs were not tested. The only drawback to this unit that I can see is the lack of a headphone jack - this shouldn't be a big deal because most people have this connected to a reciever which should provide a headphone resource.

It's a cheap disc changer that hasn't given me any issues after 3 weeks of heavy use. Considering there aren't many options out there for a multi disc changer for a decent price, you really can't go wrong with this one.

I am very pleased with the product. I own a five disc that has a mind of it's own. Purchasing this 6 disc CD changer is a life changing experience. It offers much more than expected.

Replaced an 18 year old Sony 6 disc turntable CD player with the Onkyo. Both had about the same features, the Sony had more on the remote though. The laser in the Sony may have been dirty or something but it really seems as if the Onkyo's sound is crisper and richer. I think the price was really good. I saw the same item on a web sit close to the same price but I have purchased electronics from them before and I really think that theirs was refurbished. No problem like that with Cruthfield. So far very happy.

Very good CD player and the only multi disk player I found on the site. It is very basic with no frills but that's what I was looking for. I'm setting up my first ever stereo system (analog and digital) and don't have thousands to spend. I'm doing this on a budget and everything that I have purchased from Crutchfield is fantastic! If the low end stuff is this good then I can't wait to be able to afford higher end equipment. However, I would still keep this player, I really like it and have had no issues at all.
Pros: Very good reproduction without skips, not overly sensitive to slightly used disks, great price, multi disk table.

Bought this unit after my old Sony Multi CD player started acting up. I would rather listen to CD's with quality headphones but none of the new players(very few multi CD/random players remain) that have a phone jack that has a volume control. This player has an optical output so I purchased an optical converter to headphone adapter with volume control. This player does the job with this addition. With the six CD play it is a fairly large unit so it is a hard unit to install in a component cabinet but I managed. Quality is good , can find no fault. Delivery was quick and in good shape. Very pleased with purchase.

I have reviewed another CD player recently purchased that was posted in which a foretold this one coming. I bought this CD player to have ongoing music being played when I have company or when I am doing house chores etc. i still have CD's and I wanted to have a carousel to play MY CD's; my recorded music. That includes mixes that I put together. Random play sometimes employed; sometimes not. So - basically - this fits the bill well enough and some. The play is not seamless or close to it and I did not expect that having owned carousels is the past. The remedy to this was having my own mixes (as mentioned). I did not expect the fidelity and sound to be great as with the individually playing CD players. Ok - having said that- this CD does not have the quality of a DAC in Onkyo's single CD player. However, compared to other carousels this player sounds fantastic! My previous carousel was a Technics (died). This has nice clean separation and fidelity, but not with the same warmth and depth the single player. But what IS THERE sounds good. i still think it is worth owning. I am not able to yet comment on the longevity factor as I only recently purchased it. I think 4 stars is a fair appraisal, as subjective as this or any review is. Service from Crutchfield as usual was superb (5 Stars +)- Thank you guys and gals!

So far, very pleased! After considerable research, bought the Onkyo DX-C390 to replace a 30-year old single-disc CD player. Really like that I can load up six CDs for many hours of listening. Other components in my system are high-end: Jungson JA-88E amp and B&W speakers. The sound quality is as good or better than with my old CD player.

My feed back is about the same as the other low reviews. After a period of time, the device started turning on spontaneously. I called Onkyo who recommended I got through an arcane reset process. I did and it worked for a while. Then standby light started going on no matter what I did and most recently it began stopping mid song and turning on playing randomly. This went on for over a day. I've unplugged the possessed thing and ordered a Yamaha.
Pros: Actually sounds good and is easy to operate when it is working.
Cons: Turning on and playing randomly, stopping arbitrarily. Infuriating!

I bought the Onkyo after talking to Crutchfield about the compatibility with my Denon AVR. After receiving the Onkyo, I couldn't figure how to integrate the cd player with the Denon AVR. A call to Crutchfield resolved the problem. The cd player, the AVR and my Bose speakers produce sound superior to bluetooth from my iPhone or wi-fi from my MacBook Pro.
Pros: Almost plug and play, with Crutchfield help.
Cons: The system probably is not at audiophile level, bur it's affordable. The Onkyo is a one CD player, not six, OK with me, a lover of classical music. CDs will, I understand, will sooner or later become obsolete, another reason to go with this affordable model.

It works well and love the convenience having of 6 CDs play one right after the other. The only thing I didn't like is after the 6 CDs it stops and you have to start it again. I had one years ago that would just keep on playing until I stopped it. This is great when working around the house and it's not real important to change the 6 Cds.

I have used this changer for about a month and I am glad that I bought it. Mechanically it is smooth and quiet. I find no faults with the sound quality. In fact it is motivation for cleaning up some of my old cabling. I have found most of the features that I will regularly use. Some features have not been tested yet, MP3 playback being a major one. Relies on use of the remote for some features as all electronics of this type seem to these days but the front panel gives you pretty good control. it is a little larger (inch or two inches) than the 5 disc changer it replaced but it is pretty compact for holding the extra disc .... just check its measurements against your available space before buying. I use CDs two or three hours a day so I am hoping it holds up, I can't speak to its reliability yet. I have another location where I listen to CDs on an old changer no longer produced. The old changer is rejecting some CDs now that play well enough on this new one and cleaning hasn't helped. I am thinking of ordering another of these Onkyos for that second location.

The player has performed perfectly so far. The sound quality is very good, but I did upgrade the RCA cable from what was provided with the player. The instructions and controls are simple to understand and use. My last player lasted over 15 years...I hope this Onkyo unit lasts as long.

The product functions as advertised which means that it is performing at a high level of excellence. Musician friends of mine tell me that they are hearing things on their own CDs that they did not hear when listening through headphones attached to their own CD players -- quite high praise, I think.

The CD player reproduces excellent sound. One CD I've heard in the past was played resulting in new sounds on the song. I was surprised and impressed. The Kenwood 550 watt receiver helps, yet the CD player pulled the full music range off the CD. Excellent CD player.

It serves our household very well. We just had a party and the music kept everything on track. I did not experience any lag and funny noises associated with a multiple disc player that is in the random mode. The sound reproduction is commendable.
Pros: 6 cds fill a great of time and can also fill a great deal musical variation. It moves smoothly between tracks and has some user friendly features for selecting discs etc.
Cons: I haven't found one yet.

My Pioneer 6 CD Cartridge changer finally died after 25 years. I wanted a CD changer and this was the one that I found that I liked the best. I bought a Onkyo Receiver 3 years ago and have not problems with so now my system is starting to match again.

Nicely Performing Addition to My System

I like the convenience of a multi-disc changer and am very pleased with this addition to my system. It was easily added to my existing mini system and I think the sound quality is excellent.

Cons: A bit large. This is a full size multi disc changer. I was more in the market for a mini system changer to add to my system. Not a negative comment, because I just set the mini single disc player, which has a FM tuner included, on top of the Onkyo. I am happy.

This is much better than my 5 cd Sony changer that had become unreliable. The Sony clunked loudly every time it changed CD's. I don't even notice this one. I know it's better to use a single CD reader but when we have company over or when I'm working in the yard I want hours of music of my choice.
Pros: 6 CD changer that is very quiet. Has all the controls I need.
Cons: Because it's a 6 CD changer it is deep so notice the dimensions before buying. Where I'm using it this isn't a problem.

Thank You Crutchfield, Nice piece of equipment I took it to my work place and all of our clients have been enjoying all the music that's being played, daily or weekly our guest asked "what station is this?" or what cd is all the music on! I put on six cd's and hit random and the music is playing all day long and it's easy to change cd's while music is playing. So I can change the tempo throughout the day and pull in my guest to relax or feel up tempo through lunch and finish off the day with something smooth and mellow. The fact that guest are asking for the disc and where they can get it makes me smile from ear to ear! Thanks again guys!!

Best ever CD changer

After searching for over a year for a CD player that would hold more than one disc at a time, I finally found what I was looking for in the Onkyo DX-C390. I listen to a lot of jazz, so it is really nice to be able to load more than one cd at a time. This enables me to enjoy several hours of music without having to stop to pop in another cd. The most gratifying thing this multiple disc player, is the beautiful sound quality that the unit puts out. Thank you so much for making my music much more enjoyable.
Pros: Very easy hook-up with other stereo equipment. Great piece of equipment to own, especially if you like to entertain.

Onkyo DX-C390 CD Changer

I haven't had any problems with it so far. It does everything it says it suppose to do. It has nice smooth CD tray that stops on CD disk number 1 when the drawer is opened, which is a nice switch from my last CD changer where I had to hunt for CD disk number 1 all the time. It does take some getting used to, finding all the right buttons in the beginning - the Play, the Stop, etc.
Pros:
Cons: It does have a wide tray that moves in and out and those folks who are planning to purchase this machine should be aware that on the left side in particular, it does not have a lot of clearance. In other words, I have my Onkyo unit in a cabinet and the CD tray almost cannot open and close on the left side due to the size and location of the tray drawer.

The CD player works well- excellent sound very easy to set and begin to use. The only reason for the 4 stars not 5 was the first unit that was shipped was defective. Fortunately Crutchfield staff was very helpful and immediately sent out the second unit which is working very well.

An excellent carousel CD changer from Onkyo.

At a time when carousel-style CD changers are seemingly becoming something of an "endangered species" in the world of consumer A/V equipment, it's both nice and comforting to see that a company like Onkyo still makes CD changers. To my knowledge, Onkyo is the only manufacturer making a 6-disc CD changer (Denon, Sony, Yamaha and other brands still make 5-disc changers) and it's a company with very good pedigree. The Onkyo DX-C390 is a solidly and sturdily built, elegant-looking CD changer. Its sound quality is just as good (if not better than) the Denon 5-CD changer it replaced. The front panel display is very bright, with the green numbers and characters very easy to read and see at distances where doing so would be impossible with other units that have less bright displays. I also like the fluorescent green "moon" just below the front panel display as this adds an interesting "look" that I've yet to see in another CD changer. While I would not go as far as comparing the Onkyo DX-C390 to high-end single CD players costing three or four times as the DX-C390, I will say that if you are looking for a carousel-style CD changer costing less than $250.00 the DX-C390 is an excellent value for your money--especially when considering just how good its sound quality is.

Power goes on without warning. CD player stops playing. changed Disc to see if problem not a chance. This unit has a design defect. No one should buy this brand. Others have reported this problem too. I only had unit 3 years with not playing it that often.

Onkyo DX-C390 disappointing performance

The CD player sound would periodically waver. CD's were very clean. Could not play a complete CD without at least one of the tracks wavering. Returned the unit and a replacement was shipped that initially was fine but soon resulted in the same perfomance as the 1st unit. I tried 3 different CD lens cleaners with little success. Even tried new cables.
Pros: Good sound when it works correctly. Easy to operate. Like the blue lighting. Excellent customer service.
Cons: Doesn't play music for very long before the tracks start skipping or the volume oscillates for a few seconds even with brand new CD's. Drives me nuts!! I'd rather read a book than listen to music that isn't clean.

Don't waste your money

I had problems only after about a month. Thinking it was an isolated problem, I got a replacement for it. Same problems after about 2 years even though I hardly used it. The power would turn on by itself, could not open/close, and the cd's would skip and change in middle of playing. Like a phantom player. I would never buy this brand of CD changer EVER again.

Our ONKYO CD changer that we used extensively for 12 plus years recently needed to be replaced. On a recent Thursday evening I went on Crutchfield's website and ordered a DX-C390. It was shipped the next day and was on our doorstep the following Monday. That evening I unpacked and installed it and we have been enjoying our CD's since. Great experience.

Ladies and Gentlemen, This is the SECOND Onkyo DX C390 that I have purchased from you. I have one in my home and that I have been using for the last 2 years. It runs and runs. The unit that i just purchased I installed in my finished garage where I do automotive work about 2days a week. My music is playing all of the time. I am an "Old school" component stereo Guy who likes to rig up his own sound systems. Crutchfield allows me to put my own stuff together. Speakers, Crossovers7 stuff like that. I purchased this for Christmas (2) years ago. Hadn't used it for a while and thought I'd try it. The standby light is on, but I can't get it to come on. Since it's off warranty I contacted the authorized service center. It will cost me minimum of $75 to get it looked at, plus shipping both ways. Think I'll trash this one and buy a Sony or other reputable brand for less money than this one cost. Overall very disappointed with this product. I should have paid attention to the reviews. People, do yourself a favor and buy a different brand.
Pros: Plays (6) CDs. Nice appearance. Moonlight in front is pretty cool. Links well with the Onkyo receiver.

Worst CD player to even consider Purchasing

I had this player for three years and and used all of about 20 times for about 30 hours. Went to use it after it had not been used for about a year, and it started to have an issue where it would play the first 20 seconds of a song repeatedly. Called Onkyo and was given the information to hard reset thet system. After resetting the system the player worked for 10 minutes and then just died. After speaking with Onkyo again, they wanted me to send the player to them for repair for an estimated cost of $300 according to he CS rep. After digging around on the internet, I found that the problem is a fuse that blew and that this is a very common issue with the Onkyo DX-C390. I then called onkyo again to try and purchase the part to fix it myself and to get the schematic to fix it, I was then quoted a price of $300 for the part and the schematic. Moral to this story, is to stay away from any Onkyo item that does not carry a warranty longer than 1 year.

I purchased this player to replace my Yamaha CDC-705 which lasted me almost 20 years. For its replacement, I wanted to go with a good brand name in an economical range. This player was a great bargain witha great brand name. I had this unit for 18 months with very few hours of playing time and it stopped playing. I did not buy the extended warranty with it being Onkyo. This player was out of warranty (1 year) and I was left with a player to put in the garbage. I've replaced it with another Yamaha and would never buy an Onkyo again. Even if it is on the lower end of their price range, if it is an inferior manufactured product, Onkyo shouldn't want their name associated with this product. If you still want to purchase this unit, defininitely get the extended warranty and keep the box it came in handy.

I've had one of these players for over 7 years and I have never had an ounce of trouble out of it. This is the only player I've had that doesn't skip at high volume. It is located about a foot away from my speakers that are bi-amped and produce chest pounding bass. I believe this is due to its solid construction. The sound is excellent. The only thing I don't like is the remote. You must point it pretty straight at the player to have it work. I have an Onkyo/Integra receiver that is linked to it so the receiver remote works it. Otherwise nothing bad to say about it. I may buy an extra one just incase I need to replace it as CD changers are getting very hard to find. I must have bought this when it was first introduced because I paid $100 more for it. Can't beat it for performance at this price.

Big problems with this receiver. After 1 1/2 year, it sponatneously powers on. No cause. Now it starts to skip tracks, stops playing in the middle of a song, refuses to shut down when the Stop buttone or even the Power button is pressed-have to pull the plug!!. Have Googled and found many other with identical issues with this CD changer. Sad because Onyko used to be highly regard. Their Service Dept refuses any service since warranty only 1 year. Will no longer buy Onyko

This is actually the second of these players that I have had, with the same result. I have had this one for about a year the first only abut six months. It started out with waking up in the morning finding the unit running. Now it won't play at all will not even power on. I keep all of my electronics plugged into a power conditioning UPS system so when they tell me it must be a power flaw or surge problem it doesn't set well with me. I have a great Onkyo receiver Tx-SR806 and absolutely love it and haven't had a single problem with the receiver. So I still believe in their products, just not this one. Crutchfield did replace the first unit with great service after I paid for the replacement until they received the problem child then they credited my account.

This is definitely a great choice when it comes to purchasing a CD changer. Easy to use, easy to set up, and it sounds great. There isn't much noise that comes from the machine as it changes disc either. The Onkyo link is a nice feature, basically when you turn the CD player on it will turn your Onkyo reciever on as well. The machine is a bit bulky, but other than this CD player is perfect.

I purchased this changer to replace an older Onkyo Integra DX-C909 that had seen better days. Let me just say, even though the specs are slightly different in favor of the integra, the DX-C390 sounds just as incredible if not better! You can't beat the sound and build quality for the price. My old Integra was double the cost of the DX C390 and this changer is just as good! I've even noticed much more bass response and similar sound seperation and staging compared to the Integra while running through RCA analog connections. The only drawback is that it does not have a music calendar to show the unplayed songs in shuffle mode, but I'd rather have the audio quality. I have excellent quality equipment and cables being the audio freak that I am and the DX C390 goes great with my system! Take it from this audiophile, if you are looking to not break the bank and get a good quality changer, get the DX C390!

I purchased the player as I had an old Onkyo 828 receiver that lastest over ten years with great performance. The player was easy to install up as it supports all the hookups. The sound quality is suitable as well for a midrange product. The Marantz CD player was a little out of my budget. The remote is small and compact which I prefer compared to some of the clunky remotes I have. I did have a scare the other night when I only put in two CD's. When changing between the CD's one seemed to skid off to the back of the player. I was able to correct after some frustration and fright that I would damage the player and the CD. Hopefully a one time occurance. After 30 days so far so good

My Sony CDP-C79ES finally gave in after 17 years of abuse and good quality music playback. I needed an Onkyo product to go with my Onkyo TS- RX605 Receiver for remote control purposes, so I chose the DX-C390. It is very easy to use and sounds great! It plays pre-recorded discs, CD-Rs, CD- Rws, and MP3 discs flawlessly. It will show the artist/track name when playing your own DATA(MP3) discs. If features digital optical, coaxial and analog RCA outputs for compatibility with any system, and the cosmetics of the front of the unit are very pleasing. It doesnt have a huge amout of buttons on the front, just the ones for basic operation, adding to its ease of use. Bottom line, fantastic player for a low price!

I only got to use the player for about 2 months before the first problems started showing up. First the player would continually "skip" and play a very loud "pop" noise sometimes or just hang up and keeps skipping for a few seconds. At first I just thought this was a dirty disc, but soon all CD started doing it. The problem went away for a while after giving the unit the old snack treatment so I thought I must have dislodged some dust. Next the player would not read any of my discs. It would hang up for a while and then so 99 tracks and a dash for track time. It also had trouble picking up and replacing the discs on the carousel, where discs wouldn't sit right when ejected. At this time I sent the unit out for repair and no more than a few hours after getting it back did it have trouble reading discs again. Unplugging the unit helped but 2 weeks later it died again and currently it is out for it's second repair. I have an Onkyo Receiver and I absolutely love it, which is why I got the CD player but now I'm wishing I'd saved up for the Marantz.

I'm very happy with the Sound Quality of this unit combined with the Onkyo Amplifier/Receiver. The interaction between both units create a quailty listening experience.

I bought this brand because I have an Onkyo home theater receiver already. Setup was easy and I connected a toslink optical cable for digital quality audio. This is my first CD Changer and it's nice to be able to listen to multi-disc albums like Pink Floyd and Bee Gees right thru my work at home. 6-8 hours of music is good for the 'soul', if you ask me. It's an excellent 'bang for the buck' and Crutchfield is top notch, also. I only gave it four stars because I haven't had it but a few weeks.

Sound Quality is better than expected at this price point. Continuous Play CD feature is cool because you can load your music and let it run. Good value for the money.

I have owned DX-C390 CD player for about 5 years now and it has never refused to play anything I have placed into it. The sound today is just a clean and rich as the day I took it out of the box. Let me tell you this unit is well built. I have moved 4 times locally and each time I repack the player in the original box. Survived everytime. The DX-C390 is worth every penny it costs. Every brand has bad units here and there and I feel it is unfair to condemn this beautiful player on that basis.

The DX-C390 is my second Onkyo CD player. The first worked for 3-years. The DX-C390 worked well for about 1 year. The transition on random play was slow from the start, now it does not work at all. The player does not advance to another CD and the player often does not recognize CDs. The DX-C390 is one of the most disappointing pieces of electronics that I have ever purchased.

I purchased this CD player in October of 2005 and for a year or so it played fine. The problem with it now is the music will stop for a moment then start again. If you are looking for a good player for just one year, then this is the player you've been looking for!

I used to be in love with this player. Good looks and it played perfectly until about two weeks ago. Now it inexplicably stops playing standard discs. It doesn't matter if the disc is flawless. Once it stops playing the rest of the controls work only spradically--it won't even turn off. Of course it is out of warranty so I'll send it in for repair if the cost is reasonable. I'll post a follow up review when I get it back from repair.

Does plain CDs fine ... but....

I bought this specifically to be able to use CD-RW CDROMS in order to take more of my 1200 CD collection onto a disc. Thought it would be cool for xmas music - just have a huge amount of MP3s and then go! tried 5 different brands of CDRW, and 2 of CD-R. This unit could not read most of the formats. If you're looking for a CD player for your regular collection - decent player. If you are planning on using CDRW or CD-R, it will be a challenge, and you may want to look elsewhere.

I agree with the other positive reviews with two exceptions. 1.) The "random" function is awful if you have more than two mp3 discs in the player. The lag time between songs is a disappointing 15-30 seconds! 2.) I connected this component to my Onkyo receiver/ home entertainment system, and I was expecting more functionality and synergy with the remote control connection cable that allows you to use one remote for both units. Otherwise, I think this is a great value and the sound produced is awesome.

I've had this player for 1 week now. One word describes this unit, Awesome! I've owned models from Sony and Pioneer Elite. The Onkyo beats them all. Whether listening to Lenny Kravitz, Jewel or The Lord of the Rings Soundtracks, the highs sound natural, mids are warm and the lows are incredible. Voices are natural and clear. The unit is quiet when changing discs. If you need a stand alone cd player, this is the one to bye.

I bought this unit recently because I was looking for a dedicated CD player for my home system. They are certainly a lot harder to find these days, even vs. three to four years ago. I read up on this CD player and loved its features (multi-disc, quality construction, good brand, digital outputs, multi-format capability, etc.). I ended up choosing it over some of the low-end Sonys, the new ES Sony CD/SACD changer, and several home CD recorders, mainly because of the quality to price ratio. Let me say, I love this unit! It functions smoothly and flawlessly right out of the box. When coupled with my Denon AVR-3805 receiver through the digital coaxial out, the sound is tight and true to the source material. It is a big step up from the previous CD recorder/player I had (a Phillips). I have had no problems with CD recognition or playback, and the overall aesthetics of the unit (aluminum face, display, dimmer, etc.) are outstanding. For the money, you would be hard pressed to find its equal on the market today. It lacks some minor convenience features (such as CD text display, headphone output, etc.), but makes up for it in clean lines and excellent sound. I highly recommend this unit to anyone out there who is looking for a true CD player, not simply a DVD player that "by the way" plays CDs, too. It is worth the investment to get the most from your pure audio sources, in my opinion.
