Unfortunately, my TCL remote doesn't work with the sound bar, so I have to use the phone app to control the volume. Not a big deal but inconvenient to have to unlock my phone to mute the audio.
Pros: Good sound, reasonable price
Cons: Volume not controlled by some TV remotes, no earc

I could not get the AppleTV to recognize the Ray as default speaker - Crutchfield and AppleTV support tried to help - Sonos tech support was awful. Sound was mediocre at best - I love my Sonos 5 but am disappointed in the Ray.

It works ok, but you can only mute the speaker. You cannot turn up the sound or down, I wouldn't recommend this speaker.
Pros: Sound is decent
Cons: Can't turn the volume up or down with a remote.

Good Sound Quality
Lynn from Dundee, IL on 10/20/2024
Not too big , so it's not in the way. Excellent sound quality for one unit without additional speakers placed around the room. Useful Features ; Night Sound is great for people like me who fall asleep on the couch while watching tv. It limits the volume so no rude awakenings if there's a loud commercial. The Speech Enhancement is also good. It takes care of the problem when music is too loud and now I don't find myself struggling to hear dialog. The only downside is I have to be careful about how I'm pointing remote when muting. It competes with the mute from the Roku . Not a dealbreaker , just a little inconvenient at times. Overall , at this price point , it's a good quality item.
Pros: Night Mode, Enhanced Speech
Cons: Mute control a tiny bit finicky

Ray Soundbar
Guest from conway, arkansas on 5/20/2024
I could never get the soundbar to connect to the tv. I worked with it for at least 2 hours on Friday night trying to connect to my system through my iPhone. It kept looping at the "update needs to be applied". Error was that the owner needed to login. I am the owner. I researched and read that the Android phone worked better with setup. Saturday, i went to my job and got my Android phone and tried it....still wouldn't apply the update. I've worked in IT for 24 years, doing networks, IT troubleshooting....have never seen anything like this before. What happened to just connecting a soundbar to the tv and then add the device?!?! What is the purpose of having to go through a phone app. We are taking it back today (Monday) and getting a refund.
Pros: Sounds good in the store...too bad I could never see what it sounds like in my house.
Cons: Requiring the system to connect through the phone app is a huge negative.

Great fir bedroom, small room
Richard from Alpharetta, GA on 4/3/2024
Nice soundbar for bedroom. Unfortunately the old Samsung TV does not have option to turn off "tv" speakers, only switch for external or internal speaker sound. While my DTV remote is controlling volume perfectly, Samsung feels a need to blast me a notice stating speakers need to be controlled on their own, each time volume control is touched. Ray has a great sound, not the tin-y sound from Samsung speakers.
Pros: Nice sound and it's SONOS
Cons: None yet

I bought the Ray hoping it was close in quality to the Beams I already owned (I have 3, one first gen). Unfortunately it didn't come close and , to my ears, my portable Roam sounded better;( though not suitable as a soundbar). Fortunately Crutchfield customer service was TERRIFIC in taking it back.

Requires IR remote control
Mark from Bethesda, MD on 1/1/2024
Purchased to improve sound of 40" TV. It does the job well with some tweaking, particularly re dialogue. Something that was not stated or I missed is that it requires an IR remote while most gear today uses an RF remote. My TV has two HDMI ports (occupied by cable box and bluray player) so had to use optical digital. Fortunately I discovered I can use the cable box remote to change the ray's volume. Otherwise is a nice small soundbar, particularly when on sale.
Pros: Nice, small sound bar.
Cons: requires IR remote control

Great sound. Optical only plug-in sadly. Not an issue but gave me a headache when trying to set up external speakers and control the volume with any remote. There is a workaround but just be aware. Tons of sound coming from this small bar. Was thinking of buying a sub but it's probably not needed right away.

Wonderful sound but...
Shawn from Lawrenceville, VA on 11/8/2023
Sound is great, however, with me having IR TV (LG C2 OLED) the multi-link control comes and goes. Frustrating having to relink the speaker. So I upgraded to the Bose 600, I consider them a peer to Sono. Since it was on sale and with Crutchfield's quick shipping, seemed like an obvious choice.
Pros: Sound Clear Voice Upgraded app
Cons: No remote No EARC hdmi No Atmos

Great stand alone speaker to replace my miniscule TV speakers. Big sound from just a lone soundbar. 'Night Mode' selection great for lower base and enhanced voice. 'Loud' mode great for action. I use the Ray on my small kitchen TV.
Pros: Tailored big sound for size.
Cons: Mounting options.

Excellent Sound
Greg from Hudsonville, MI on 3/26/2023
Let me start by saying that I have a Sonos One that I really like and sounds amazing. I previously purchased a LG sound bar with Dolby Atmos. While it was ok, it sounded completely hollow compare to my Sonos One. I decided to return it in favor of the Ray. The Ray is similar to the One in terms of sound quality and ease of set up. The sound is plenty loud, it's accurate, and sounds natural. The only reason that I have reduced a star is because this should really have an HDMI Arc connection. While Sonos was able to make it compatible with both my LG TV magic remote and my AppleTV 4k remote, it was a pain to set it up and it occasionally glitches and won't allow me to remotely control the volume. (This usually resolves itself by the next day and doesn't occur again for weeks at a time.) All in all, the Sonos Ray is an excellent sound bar. It's not oversized and sounds very good for tv, music, and movies. If you have other Sonos products, it is very unlikely that you will be disappointed.

Very Happy With Sonos Ray TV Speaker
Hunter from Richmond, VA on 3/3/2023
We replaced a 10 year old Bose Solo speaker that we really loved, it was a huge sound in a compact, user friendly unit. After shopping and listening to units at a local retail store, we wanted to buy the Sonos Ray but were thwarted by the store employees. We decided to drive from Richmond to Charlottesville, much better experience, so glad because Crutchfield's employee was perfect. We are thrilled with the Sonos Ray, the setup was a little daunting for us older, tech challenged types but the guidance process walked us through the steps perfectly and everything works like it's supposed to. We took the path of allowing setup to do all the automatic things it could and it worked as promised. The sound is truly deep and rich, the dialogue enhancer works very well. We had no issue programming the Samsung Smart TV remote so we only have to use one remote for both TV and speaker. We could not be happier with it, the sound quality, the volume of sound, the ease of use, the size and appearance couldn't be better for us. We're extremely happy and want to recommend the Sonos Ray and Crutchfield's to anyone looking for a great TV speaker.
Pros: Every feature, it works well as promised and sounds great.
Cons: None

Ray is a good small soundbar but returned for the Beam
David from Taylors, SC on 11/10/2022
The Ray was a pretty good soundbar for a small room, but I opted to return it for the Beam because I needed a bit more separation for my master bedroom. Still, I have to admit, the Ray did sound good for its size. No real complaints, just needed a little bigger unit.
Pros: Sounds good for its size.
Cons: Might need to opt for the Beam depending on the size of your room.

Good tv Sound Bar for second or third tv.
David from Denver, NC on 9/4/2022
We bought this sound bar to help fix the sound issues with a tv mounted on the wall over a fireplace in a vaulted living room. When comparing the sound to the Sony XBR65x900E There is no comparison as the Sonos is far superior. I had read that the sound is a little thin favoring the midrange and that the wireless Sonos Sub is recommended. However my wife hates bass and just wanted the sound from the tv to have clear dialog and not be overwhelmed by the music or special effects. Me, I love Bass and my Home Theater is Dolby Atmos and 2 Subs and 14 speakers. The EQ in the Sonos App does not do much raising or lowering the Bass or Treble settings. The Dialog enhancement works great as well as the night setting. I was not impressed with the Trueplay setup was a disappointment as the sound was better before the adjustment, but you can turn it off to go back to the original sound. I in all fairness was not impressed with the room setup on my Denon in my Home Theater. It is better with my adjusting manually with my sound meter and the Equalizer in the Denon. My son in law listened to a Sonos Beam with 4 Subs in a rental Beach House and said it was great. Bottom line, if you can live eith only a opticsl input and no HDMI, do not like Bass or are willing to buy the Donos Sub, seek better sound than tv speakers at an affordable price, want to hear clear unnmuffled or mumbled dialog, then the Sonos Ray is a really good choice.
Pros: Has fairly good sound without a Sub. Has plenty of volume. The Sonos App is great but a little confusing at first. Setting the sound volume easier and more accurate with the App compared to with the tv remote. Dialog is clear and can choose Auto, Uncompressed or Compressed sound. Music and effects no longer drown out Dialog. Airplay works perfectly. Sony and Vizio TV and Firestick remotes are compatible Great value for the price
Cons: Trueplay not great Sound needs a bit more Bass. No HDMI input Have to buy optional bracket to mount on wall Optional wall bracket is a bit pricey.

Very Low Peak Volume
Wesley from Indianapolis, IN on 9/3/2022
I purchased the Sonos Ray to replace a pair of Klipsch "The Fives" that I had been using with my 55" Samsung. The Fives were too much speaker for regular TV watching, and their volume and bass were sometimes overwhelming. So I purchased the Sonos Ray to improved dialogue clarity, all while reducing overall loudness in the TV room. Unfortunately, the pendulum swung a little too far. In our 10' x 12' living room with 8' ceilings and hardwood floors, I have to keep the volume on the Ray at 100% to effectively hear what's on the TV. The sound and build quality of the Ray are excellent, it's just noticeably underpowered and anemic in the volume category.
Pros: Great dialogue and voice clarity. Easy and clever set-up. Good build quality.
Cons: Very low peak volume.

Speech enhancement big improvement to TV
Daniel from Rockville, MD on 8/18/2022
Bought this primarily for speech enhancement for TV. Was getting frustrated with constantly turning sound up for dialogue and then turning down for action. Ray does a great job with this. As a bonus connected my existing Sonos SL and SL1 as rear channels for surround. Very happy with resulting sound.
Pros:
Cons: A little too tall to put directly in front of TV. (Insignia bargain TV for summer place) because it blocked TV sensor for TV remote. Put it on shelf of TV stand.
