Amazing CD player
Christopher from Sevierville, TN on 6/28/2025
WOW. I'm hearing sounds from my cd that I have never heard before. This player is build like a tank. It amazes me how quiet it is. I'm still learning the different functions that are avaliable with this item. The on line manual is pretty comprehensive, and well organized. We will have too such from page to page for certain functions. This player is well worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys CD's.
Pros: 1. Great CD player, and sound 2. Built like a tank 3. Easy setup 4. Remote easy to understand and use 5. Quiet operations
Cons: 1. Little pricey but we'll worth the money

Great CD player
Benny from Huntingtn Wds, MI on 6/19/2025
This CD player is a smooth operator. buttons require light touch but don't feel flimsy or cheap. The sound is just warm enough and at the same time very detailed. DAC has 2 filters selectable by button; I prefer the default mode, mode 2 is too warm for my setup, will work great with setup that sound on the cold side. Highly recommend.
Pros: - Sounds great - Excellent build quality
Cons: May be a con for some users: - No balanced inputs / outputs. - No passthrough mode. Neither matter to me.

Good looking, Solid build, Beautiful sound
Glen from Orange County, CA on 6/16/2025
I own the Marantz SAKI Ruby SACD player and I love it, but I wanted a more affordable CD player that my granddaughters could use. I compared the Marantz CD60 with similarly priced players from JBL, Arcam, and Rotel. The CD60 looks great and is very well built. The CD loading is smooth and the tray is not at all flimsy feeling. Buttons are small but feel solid. The remote is a bit large and complex for my needs, but will operate a Marantz integrated amplifier or receiver as well as the CD player. Many other CD players in the sub-$1000 price range sound analytical or digital. Not this one. The sound is warm and full-bodied. There is plenty of detail and the bass is impactful. I tried the analog RCA connections directly to my preamp as well as the coax digital connection to an external DAC. The choice of DAC definitely affects the sound, but either connection yields great sound quality. I am very pleased with the Marantz CD60 and would highly recommend it.
Pros: Very solid, well built player; warm, full-bodied sound

The Best There Is:-)
Bruce from Sebastian, FL on 5/12/2025
I have had a few CD players over the years and sadly had to disposed of my CD collection about 5 years ago, due to a bad divorce. Had picked up a few CD's and been playing them on my computer, so I decided it was time to invest in a good machine. Because I knew the Marantz name from previous equipment I had, I looked to that. Been playing CD's for about a week now and the quality really stands out. The machine is built like a tank, the tray system is silent and the sound quality is like nothing I have ever heard. And playing over the Polk ES55's I just got from Crutchfield.....This is a winner!
Pros: Well built and designed Quality throughout Phenomenal reproduction
Cons: None at all

Initially I wasn't very impressed as compared to my other 18 year old CD player which is very good. The place where I could put the player is limited so I had to drag out an old but long enough Toslink cable. The cheapest of all cables that come with a cheap component. Well the belief that any component is only as good as its weakest link in the audio chain proved true in this case. The weak link was the cable. Yesterday I received the top of the line Wireworld Toslink cable (i bought used on ebay) and WOW what a difference. So much richer and 3D like music. I also don't need to turn the volume as loud as before and what I could only describe as "glare" is gone. I really like that this player can play the music on my USB memory stick. I usually won't give a review on something that I've owned for such a short time but it is clear that this is a five star player.

A Fine CD Player for Classical Music
William from Sewickley, PA on 1/16/2025
One of the biggest surprises of the CD60 is the remote. The one for my old SA8005 no longer worked well, and Marantz no longer has replacements. Lo and behold, the CD60 remote works perfectly in all aspects on the SA8005, with an added bonus. The remote for the CD60 has a button for the disc tray to go out and in. No such button on the SA8005 remote, only the one on the face of the player. Yet that CD60 out/in tray button works on the SA8005. The tray button on my SA8005 occasionally jams lately, but now I can use that old SA8005 for my SACDs. Otherwise, I have no complaints about the CD60. So far, lives up to its reputation. Superb, detailed sound for classical repertoire. Hope it lasts the same many years as my old SA8005 has done.
Pros: The CD60 remote also works in all phases on my old SA8005, for which Marantz no longer sells replacements and mine had become faulty.
Cons: Very picky. For such a CD player, could have furnished alkaline, if not lithium, batteries for the remote instead of low grade ones. (smiling emoji here). Also, would like it if Marantz had offered a manual, even at a price, instead of my having to print one from the internet.

This IS the one.
Rick from Merrillville, IN on 9/4/2024
Incredible CD performer! But for the love of Mike, give it a good week playing 24/7 to break in or "come on song" because you will be rewarded! Spend a few extra bucks for better RCA cables too while you're at it. Out of the box in my Pass Labs/Parasound based system the player worked and played all my factory and CD-R discs with absolutely no problem. This is one solid battleship of a CD player, wow. I wasn't initially thrilled with the sound but I'd been warned it needs breaking in. By the morning of the fourth day it sounded deeper, clearer and more transparent with the blackest backgrounds. Day 5 it's pulled far away from any digital player I've owned. Very engaging machine. I can't wait to play the next one lol. It's crazy. Marantz has a huge winner on their hands with this machine.
Pros: Soundstage, clarity, depth and width of soundfields. Solid reliable TANK of a machine. AMAZING sound. So very listenable and not boring sonic wallpaper like older CD players often are.
Cons: Multipurpose remote could be paired down to just CD playing tasks IMO unless you're using an all new Marantz system. Display is on the small side, hard to read from more than six feet away.

I had concerns of the Marantz cd player. When I received my package the outer box had pretty substantial hole in the bottom of it. Then I opened the box and the Marantz was box was upside down with no packing material around it, that put a bad feeling in my stomach! Thank goodness there was no damage to the Marantz box or the cd player. Everything with cd player so far is working just fine. I did receive it within 3 days of ordering it!
Pros: Working as expected
Cons: Shipping , this more on handling of the shipping company! They don't seem to take pride how they treat the consumers packages as long as it's delivered !

I have had the unit a little under a month and have played jazz, rock, blues and classical music. I was impressed with how I heard more clarity out of the CD then with my old player. It has a high-performance 24-bit/192kHz digital-to-analog converter with the highspeed power supply that I believe makes a difference.
Pros: Unit is built solid should play well for a long time. Good sound, I am very happy with the overall performance of the unit.

USB playback not gapless
Scott from Berlin Center, OH on 3/26/2024
Sound is very good. It does not do what I bought it to do however. A couple issues with the front USB input: 1) is only compatible with USB drives formatted in FAT16 and FAT32 format. Commonly now, exFAT and NTFS are the formats my computer is trying to format USB drives in. Only those USB drives that are 32gb and below was I able to format in a FAT32 format on Windows 7 and Windows 10 computers. This device will not work with exFAT or NTFS. So if you use small capacity USB drives you could hopefully still use the acceptable format for this. This is in the owner's manual and this is more of an annoyance than a deal breaker. 2) the biggest issue is that this player does not play USB files back 'gapless" track-to-track. Some albums/CDs/live recording have one track flow seamlessly into the next - especially live music. In my case I was going to be using the front USB exclusively for live music playback, all of which flows track to track as it was originally recorded, tracked and saved. The Marantz CD60 will interrupt and insert about a 1 second gap/pause/silence as it ends one track and begins the next track. This makes listening to a lot of music very unpleasant. This is a good sounding unit, but for the price point I'm left disappointed and I think for my needs a CD player half the price would accomplish exactly the same results. Denon and Marantz are owned by the same company and the unit construction and operation.
Pros: Very good sound Appears well built Good operators manual
Cons: Limitations on the USB input: must use small capacity USB drives and old file formatting that my windows 7 and 10 computers wouldn't perform - playback is interrupted track to track. Continual music meant to flow from one track to the other will be broken Expensive with above limitations noted compared to say the Denon DCD-900NE which would operate the same way, likely sound similar and probably come out of the same production plant.

Shawn from Jacksonville, FL on 1/20/2024
Decided to upgrade my CD player, with the plethera of choices out there the decision came down to "Quality Build, Fit/Finish of the product with a decent dac". With the help of Crutchfield, I decided on the Marantz CD 60. With Marantz's history of solid technology, quality part structure, and sound clarity my choice was without disapointment. The Marantz CD 60 has great vocal clarity, and instrument separation. The unit is "Not Fussy" with overload of processes and adjustments, it's very straight forward/easy set up. Crutchfields process working with the team answered all my questions and we compared between a couple of units that helped with the decision. I'm a first time customer to Crutchfield, and I'll be back for my hi fi purchases.
Pros: Attractive, Solid build quality, ease of use in set up, great vocals, and instrument separation
Cons: None that I can think of

It's hard to decide what equipment to get without actually hearing it but I sure made the right choice getting the Marantz CD 60 CD Player. I was first impressed by how smoothly the loading tray worked and how quickly it read the CD. Of course how it sounds is the real test and I was very happy from the start. My old Yamaha bit the dust and this Marantz, even though it's not broken in yet, sounds so much better. Once the units has broken in I plan to replace the patch cord. The one that came with seems kind of cheap. I am playing this through a Marantz model 40n, Martin Logan 60xt speckers and a Rel T9 I sub.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Cheap patch cord

This is a great sounding CD player. I had previously purchased the Rotel CD11 Tribute which had trouble reading long CDs and occasionally stopped playing before the end of the CD. The Marantz CD60 played all of those CDs perfectly and sounds terrific. While the Marantz is more more money, I would recommend it over the Rotel if you are considering both and can afford it. The display is hard to read from any distance for my older eyes, but that is a minor quibble. I opted for the CD60 rather than the CD6007 since the CD60 handles FLAC files. While I do not listen to FLAC files currently, I wanted a player that can play them in case FLAC files replace CDs in the future. I am very, very pleased with this CD player.

Marantz CD60: A Keeper
Thomas from Gardiner, NY on 9/21/2022
Used with NAD C 165BEE preamp and Musical Fidelity A3CR power amp, fed into KEF LS50s. Broken in by playing CDs for about 8 hours a day for about a week. This was done for both DAC filters. Filter 1: - Exceptionally wide and deep soundstage - Minute details provide spatial cues that allow the listener to feel present in the auditorium - Highly revealing of everything on the recording, including how it was recorded and mixed - Lacking some energy in the lower midrange. Voices and many instruments sounded too airy and lacking in heft. - Bright, requiring a pre-amp with tone controls. Filter 2: - Same soundstage minus only some of the exceptional depth - Same detail, same spatial cues, same sensitivity to quality of recording - Lacking no energy in any part of the sonic spectrum. Voices and instruments sound naturally full while retaining their natural airiness. Microdetails of the timbre, texture, and volume of a voice or instrument abound. Each sound source is palpable in its place in the soundstage. - Still just a tad bright Overall: In filter 2, this unit affords me, a musician, a deeper insight into the music, whether it be classical or popular, acoustic or electric, than I have ever gotten from a CD player. Its sound is punchy, dynamic, palpable, organic, and engaging. Sensitive to recording quality and best when used with warm gear. I find filter 1 useful for only certain recordings. Spe
Pros: When I switched over from filter 1 to filter 2, it was on the fly, during a Bach Motet. My jaw dropped. The music became airy, liquid, and solid all at the same time.
Cons: The lack of sonic balance in filter 1. This is a shame, because filter 1 sounds so real in all other ways. The filter has no switch except on the remote. Remotes break! If Marantz puts a filter switch on the front panel of the unit, I'm buying a spare CD60.

Bringing out the details
Tom from Santa Rosa, CA on 7/9/2022
I listen to a lot of classical music, which tends to have very dense textures, so I wanted to see if a CD player upgrade would give me more of a high-resolution soundscape -- with individual instruments and voices standing out clearly from one another. I'm glad to say the CD-60 delivered on that front -- but without adding any artificiality or harshness. It's a very warm, musical sound. Not only are the instruments distinct from one another, they seem to be placed in distinct locations within the stereo spread. There really seems to be nothing intervening between me and the music; it sounds as if the musicians are in my living room. I am using the fiber-optic output to connect the player to my amplifier, which is something new to me. Apparently this may or may not be worth doing, depending on what you're connecting to, but my Crutchfield tech support advisor said that my amplifier had an unusually good DAC, so it was worth it in this case. It sounded very good with regular analog cables, but the optical connection did give the sound more clarity and presence. I would take points off for the tiny display, which isn't readable unless you're crouching right in front of the thing, but every CD player seems to be like that these days, and anyway I've got binoculars.
