Quality control issues
Aaron from WEAVERVILLE, CA on 7/11/2025
It's difficult to review because it was great when it worked but I apparently got a lemon. Within about 8 months the sub output failed. Too late to return so I went through Marantz warranty. First technician sent it back without being fixed and assured me it had to be my sub that was the problem. I was even convinced enough that I bought a new sub and still the same problem. Then two weeks later the front left speaker went out. Sent in again for repair under warranty for both the sub and new problem with left front being out. Two months later, again, and it came back with a fully replaced digital board. At first it sounded great and I was relieved and excited to finally have it working after over four months of being sent back and forth to two different av repair shops, but after less than 45 minutes of listening the front left speaker went out again. Now I'm sort of back to square one. The new digital board may have fixed the sub out, but did nothing for the front left. Now I have to deal with the slow process of contacting Marantz for a third submission to be fixed and I am very skeptical. I fear that the right or other speakers outputs will ultimately fail. I got this for a 2.1 setup with the goal to build up to a full 5.1 but am afraid by the time I can afford to get a center and two surrounds more outputs will fail. I just wish Marantz would own up to selling me a lemon and send me a new, un-refurbished receiver.
Pros: Great when it works
Cons: Only lasted about 8 months before it started to fail

Great Unit!
Scott from Grand Rapids, MI on 6/29/2025
I recently purchased this unit to use while my older (yet still awesome) SR5007 goes off for repairs. It like many, has succumbed to the 'blinking red light' issue. Regardless, I am still a Marantz fan for life. My new NR1510 may not be as powerful or versatile as its "Older Brother", but watching Skyfall last night on Blu-Ray, it came through in spades. I use it in my second surround system in my dining room. Not a lot of space to fill, but with an added 15" 150 watt subwoofer it's just what I wanted (and needed).
Pros: Well, It's a Marantz. It has all the features that I wanted and needed. And, at the price point for my budget. I honestly didn't consider any other brands.
Cons: None at all.

Called with lots of questions and all were answered. Receiver was as advertised and sounds great. I am really happy with purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a receiver with it's features.
Pros: Great sound, easy operations relatively easy setup.
Cons: Require a TV, however that is what makes setup so easy.

As far as I can tell, it's working as it should - only had it for about a week so we'll see. Needed the slimline to fit into the cabinet. Relatively easy to set up and haven't had any overheating problems. Seems to have adequate power for my surround system though not a really big space. Seems to make the audio (both music and soundtracks) very clear and dynamic.

Marantz NR1510
Robert from Buford, GA on 4/28/2025
Wow!! I purchased one of these for a bedroom powering 2 tower speakers and a subwoofer as it was similar to my Marantz 5015 in the living room. I was a bit concerned about it only having 50 watts per channel and thought I might need a separate amp for more power, not the case! This unit is perfect for a smaller sized room! Performance is excellent, easy setup, slim profile, great price, suprisingly great power, extremely pleased!
Pros: Slim Design, Excellent Sound Quality, Great Power, Huge Value!
Cons: None that I can find at this price point!

Do not be fooled by this low profile Marantz - using it with my Xbox and great sound and picture. I, in the past, have always bought high end AVRs, this for the price is wonderful!! Recommended. Jim Whitehead

I bought this to replace a Denon 7.2 Home Theater receiver simply because it needs to fit in a smaller space since we are moving. Setup was very simple, partly because I had properly labeled all cables when I installed the Denon. In many ways, it is similar to the Denon, so we're happy with the purchase

Marantz NR1510
Gene from Nashville, IN on 12/10/2024
I just installed my Marantz NR1510 AV Receiver. Very nice piece of equipment - at a very reasonable price. I replaced a 20+ year old Linn Unidsk SC, which was way ahead of it's time and quite pricey. Back to the NR1510. If you have very hi-end quality speakers, only a few HDMI inputs (Smart TV is advised with HDMI-ARCe) - although it supports 5 HDMI connections, plus one for a monitor - this is an excellent product and, as I have said at a very reasonable price. As an example, I have, on the front, hi-end Linn Activ speakers, each fed by its own 5 channel (100W/channel) amplifier and Klipsch RP502s surround sound speakers, and a Linn Sizmik 13" subwoofer. The NR1510 works really well with them (even though you can have a second subwoofer with the NR1510). A couple of surprises that I didn't expect, but they all have work arounds. There is only one optical (I had assumed it was Toslink) input connection. And even though it says it is 'Assignable', what that really means is that you can change its name, but not it's function - so if you wanted to plug your CD into it - too bad. Now for several thousand more, the Marantz AV10 and AV8805A solve the problem - but hey, RCA plugs/wires are really inexpensive. It would have been nice to have pre-out output to the surround speakers, like on the AV10 and AV8805A, the answer is the same - a little wire goes a long way in saving the cash. This is an excellent piece of equipment . Enjoy

Great for 2 channel sound.
anthony from STAMFORD, CT on 11/30/2024
Excellent unit for plain stereo use, mainly a turntable. Hard to find good 2 channel amps/receivers to properly power 4 ohm speakers in this price range. Landed on this AVR which produces the familiar Marantz warm and powerful sound, when necessary, to run 2 Vienna Acoustics speakers in a medium sized room. For setup, you'll need either a TV or computer monitor hooked up via HDMI. Once initial setup is complete, you will not need the monitor for daily use. Picks up home Wifi, Blue tooth and FM signals very well. First time using HEOS app was easy. Typical excellent service from Crutchfield as usual.

Upgraded from old Sony STR-DH520
Thomas from Canonsburg, PA on 11/9/2024
I have small system using Polk ES-10 for fronts and Polk PSW-111 for sub. I'm not running home theater anymore, just stereo. I have a Sony BDP-S580 Blu-ray that i use for CD's and have my Sony TV connected to the receiver. This receiver has plenty of power to drive these speakers to the limit. The Audessey room correction was easy to setup as was the entire receiver using the on-screen directions. J setup the Wi-Fi and now have internet radio which was important. I cannot receive any radio stations where I live, and this function was one of the deciding factors. The sound is great as this has a much better DAC than my old receiver and it is infinitely more adjustable with the 9-band graphic EQ. I actually like the pure direct mode the best for casual listening as it is nice and warm sounding. I'm not using the blue tooth or phone apps so I cannot comment on how they work. In the future I want to add the matching CD player and upgrade the front speakers (they need to be small)!
Pros: Reduced footprint Internet radio Connections for everything Easily configured 4-ohm compatible speaker outputs Adjustable crossover points for sub and fronts Great sound signature It's not made in PRC!!!

Serious connection issues
Joel from Santa Rosa, CA on 10/20/2024
I bought this receiver to replace an older Sony system that was starting to have connection issues. Mostly I used it for streaming music via my Roon core and for watching TV. After a little less than a year, it randomly stopped connecting to our home network. Resetting the network settings and even a hard reset had no effect. Strangely, this also has inferior volume compared to my old 30 watt Sony system--I have to crank the Marantz to 60% volume to be able to watch TV, and it's attached to some very sensitive Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Between the connection issues and low volume, I can't really recommend this system.
Pros: Nice slim form factor, lots of input options
Cons: Flaky WiFi, volume can't get very high

A Very Good Preamp
Jeff from WINNSBORO, TX on 10/17/2024
I've been looking for a new preamp to feed my Dynaco ST 70. Most of the solid state units I had been reading up on were over $1000 to $2000. Then I stumbled upon an article about the positives of using an AV amp for a 2 channel preamp using the pre-outs. There's limited information on using the NR1510 as a preamp but I knew if I didn't like it Crutchfield was very good with returns. Let me tell you, after about 2 hours of dialing this unit in, it sings!! The instructions for setup are a little frustrating as you must have a TV to get the setup started. Not having a TV in my music room, I borrowed the one out of the grandkids room. Other than that, most audio peeps can figure out the setting they like best. My Dynaco has never sounded so good, feeding my JBL Studios and Klipsch subs. The sound is so dynamic and crystal clear. Highs sparkle and bass is thunderous, while the mids are very present and not muddy. My only sources are a turntable and CD. I like it has the streaming services and give me something to explore later down the road. I'm very impressed and thrilled with the Marantz NR1510.
Pros: Dynamic as a preamp
Cons: Setup

Marantz NR1510
David from South Bend, IN on 9/22/2024
I purchased this receiver for a two-channel setup with 90% focus on streaming music with Tidal and vinyl playback, but I still wanted the added flexibility of HDMI earc for movie playback. I paired the Marantz with my Polk S60 floor standing speakers. I was initially concerned with the 50 wpc power rating, but I'm easily able to drive the Polks between 70 and 80 db at 10 feet at or just a bit below mid volume, which is plenty loud enough for me. The sound is really nice. Deep, tight base at any volume and a warm rolled back treble and midrange. Sounds very similar to my Cambridge AXR100 for music. Setup was fast and easy. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Very pleased so far.
Pros: Great music playback Heos built in Spotify and Tidal Connect
Cons: Non so far

It's early to tell. The main reason for my purchase was to fit into a smaller depth tv console. Problem solved. Second reason was to be able to play retro games using composite connections. So far I am having a difficult time. I cannot seem to find a way to see the video display on screen while I do hear the audio from the games playing. I'm sure there is a solution and that it is ignorance and not the fault of the unit. The quick setup guide doesn't solve this problem.

Easy installation and setup. I used the cable labels provided by Crutchfield which kept things organized through the transition. Simplicity, Quality and Value
Rodney from Rockingham, VA on 7/8/2024
I bought the NR1510 about 6 months ago to replace an old Yamaha home theater unit that I really liked but, it lost a rear channel. I have always wanted a Marantz but they were a bit out of my price range until this unit showed up. I don't need 100 watts in my theater space or a bunch of bells and whistles. The 50 watts per channel is perfect for my space. The set up was easy and I was able to eliminate a bunch of cables with the new technology vs the old Yamaha. The sound is clean and balanced. Great value. I am very satisfied!
Pros: Great Value. Easy set up. Beautiful clean sound

Eric from El Paso, TX on 2/11/2024
I was expecting more since it's a Marantz . It just didn't do it for me. I am going to return it and Crutchfield replied right away after sending the return request. The Bluetooth connection is bad but that was not the main reason I didn't like it. I just didn't get the feeling of wanting to own it after looking at it on my dedicated home theater. I love every product I have bought from Crutchfield. This one just didn't do it for me. Thank you Crutchfield for making it easy to return it!
Pros: The Pros go to Crutchfield !!
Cons: If your hobby is Audio - Video - Home Theater and you have your dedicated room, this Marantz will not give you the feeling of a piece you want to own if you are an enthusiast.

I bought this unit because it has a pre-out for the main speakers. I have a Marantz stereo power amplifier that plays well with this receiver. The setup mic worked fairly well. I did have to increase the center speaker volume and the bass response manually. I suggest connecting the receiver with an Ethernet cable if possible. My connection with WiFi was a little glitchy. HEOS works well and the remote control app is helpful, especially the online manual.
Pros: Compact, easy setup.

Will be better with a sub and some bookshelves.
Nicholas from Simpsonville, SC on 8/3/2023
I'm running the Marantz NR1510 with a pair of Klipsch RP-280F that I got from Crutchfield a couple years ago. The towers sound amazing on my vintage McIntosh system. Floor shaking bass, nice and clear throughout the full range. But the Mc is out for cleaning, so the Marantz is pinch-hitting. I can't get this receiver dialed-in the way I want. The EQ doesn't offer as much control as I need. Maybe an optimistic 50wpc just isn't enough - the Mc is closer to 140wpc. At 98dB sensitivity, 50 should be plenty. The Audacity system got kinda close to the sound I want. The Mc will be back soon. I can't wait to pair this with the right subs and speakers.
Pros: AirPlay2 works great! HDMI works great! Slim profile! Great style! Solid build!
Cons: The Audacity setup kinda hurt my ears, and seemed extreme. No bass below about 60Hz on the main speakers. Setup menus are rather vague. Menu navigations is clunky.

The Marantz NR1510 receiver might sound like an old school receiver but contains all the technology needed for an easy install to any complicated system! Although it lacks in total wattage it's great for a small space even though it will still rattle the walls with volume with high volume, and I haven't gone over 75% output! After purchasing a different receiver and sending it back to get the Marantz, I couldn't be happier!
Pros: HDMI, good design, easy setup, plenty of other jacks for extra equipment. Learns well!
Cons: Total wattage

Phyllis from New York, NY on 6/21/2023
The quality of this system is everything it says it is. It was very easy to connect to TV, DVD player, CD player, Phono and Router. I purchased a system several years ago and that system required different cord connections while this one connects using HDMI cords. This makes it far more easier to connect to and I forgot to mention it's easy to connect to your speakers as well. The quality of the sound is very good as well. It also connects to other equipment pieces from other companies. Now the most important thing is, if you run into any issues while connecting, all you have to do is reach out to Crutchfield. They're knowledge & patience is everything. I've been a customer for years and their price match is definitely on point. I recommend this company for great overall experience when purchasing any electronic equipment. I'm proud and happy being a customer.

Overall Happy
Jeff from Oklahoma City, OK on 5/25/2023
I bought this NR1510 receiver to replace my Marantz NR1506. It fits my tight shelf space perfectly, and I like the upgraded capabilities. Like the NR1506, it is not very intuitive, and I still have not figured out how to get it to work smoothly with the cable box and TV ARC. It undoubtedly is a setting I have not figured out yet. The picture quality seems to be better than the NR1506, and my speakers clearly sound better. I bought it through Crutchfield's open box/dent and scratch. However, I could not find a dent or scratch. In the future, I will always check their open box/dent and scratch. Overall, I am very happy with this new receiver.
Pros: Well-built and compact.
Cons: Could be more intuitive.

Almost what I wanted
Charles from Park Ridge, NJ on 2/14/2023
I upgraded my Denon AVR X2200W to the Marantz because the Marantz has several features that the Denon does not, most notably the phono input and the main (only) zone preamp out. These features work well, and I am very happy with the sound quality. However, the browser interface on the Marantz does not work. I get the main screen and can change inputs and setup, but I can not control any of the inputs, such as the tuner. The Denon has a similar interface, but that works as expected. This is extremely annoying since I rely on the browser interface when working at my desk. I can not even mute it! The Android remote control app is a little compensation, but it is sluggish and something else I have to scramble for. I have work-related video conferences, and having to get a remote is inconvenient. I have contacted Marantz support and have gotten nothing but trivial responses.
Pros: Inputs and sound quality
Cons: Browser interface does not work

Punches Far Above its Weight
Henry Johnson from Rochester, MN on 1/15/2023
I should start by stating I love the sound of Marantz gear and have an SR7005 in my 7.1 home theatre mated to an MM7025 that feeds the main L&R vintage Polk S10's I have owned and babied since 1995 and an NAD 272 feeding a pair of Klipsch center channel speakers with the low end supported via a Martin Logan Dynamo 1000 sub. My dedicated 2.1 listening room utilizes a Marantz SR5004 mated to a Marantz NA6006 and Marantz MM7025 feeding a pair of ELAC Unifi 3-way bookshelf speakers on stands and a Martin Logan Dynamo 400 sub for streaming HD music via both Amazon HD and my iTunes library accumulated over the past dozen years or so. My point is I like the way Marantz tunes their gear for that specific "Marantz sound." I just got the new NR1510 hooked up to a pair of Klipsch R-50M bookshelf speakers and a budget sub (Polk PSW202) in my heated garage yesterday. The NR1510 has the same characteristics as the aforementioned SR5004/SR7005, nice and quiet, with that sweet Marantz mojo. The NR1510's 50 watts per channel push my new Klipsch R50M's rated at 75 watts maximum (8 ohm's) adequately. Would a separate amp tighten things up a bit? Sure, but an amp is definitely not required as they sound great without one. As reviewed and also described by the folks at Crutchfield, this is an excellent sounding receiver that gets you into audiophile territory without breaking the bank. Thanks again Crutchfield for the usual great customer service and fast shipping.
Pros: Sounds like its bigger brothers.
Cons: None

Still playing with many of them. The ability to use larger quality speakers greatly improved the voice and sound quality. Paired with the efficient Klipsch Reference RP160M front, RP400C center, and R51M surround speakers. One minor issue. When connecting video, the setup indicated that my TV was not compatible with 4K HDR10 at 60Hz and stayed at the "standard" (30Hz) refresh rate. However, I have the latest LG OLED and it is clearly capable of the higher refresh rate. I had to manually set it to "enhanced" in the setup, video, 4K Signal Format. It worked perfectly despite the on screen warning. Overall, very satisfied and would highly recommend.
Pros: Easy setup process and menu. Great audio and video features.
Cons: One minor TV setup issue.

NR1510 AVR.
Ken from Racine, WI on 7/25/2022
Very happy, this is my 2nd Marantz AVR,1st is a SR7013 that I've had a few years now and completely satisfied with it. This one is in the bedroom so I didn't need as many channels but it has the same quality and ease of use as the bigger one. I waited a long time for Marantz to start producing these again but it is worth the wait.
Pros: Great quality, will last you for many years.
Cons: None really, download the instructions PDF it will be helpful.

Marantz does it again
William from Metairie, LA on 4/29/2022
Great slimline receiver from Marantz. This replaced a 21+ year old Marantz HTS receiver I bought back in early 2000. This has been a significant upgrade and I appreciate that it has streaming & wifi capabilities, a built-in phono stage but also separate outputs for subwoofers & a power amp for front speakers. I initially ran my Polk speakers through a vintage Adcom GFA-2 using the pre-outs on the Marantz but ultimately let the Marantz do all the work as the 50w/channel sounded much cleaner than the Adcom. I've also found that the headphone circuit provides clean isolated sound for movie and music listening. I also have 2 separate HEOS compatible speakers in our dining and patio areas for full house music enjoyment. This receiver hits a sweet spot for someone looking to have a quality HTS receiver that can do it all without breaking the bank.
Pros: Slim line form factor, clean sound and power, great circuitry, nearly future-proof and component expandable. Great price point.
Cons: The Marantz mobile app is a bit clunky and could use a better interface. Heos takes a bit of work to dial in. Wish it had a USB input on the back as well.

Good without all the size
Crutchfield customer from Westerville, OH on 4/15/2021
Great smaller receiver that supports eARC. I have its cousin I needed to replace, 1601 because it didn't support eARC after upgrading my TV (still working strong after 12+ years). New model is very similar but supports more current technologies. This is primarily used for a home theater setup. Just as strong and warm as the original, but was easier to setup. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this for either HT or a music setup. If all you need is a 5.2 setup, this will fit the bill in a nice compact package.
Pros: size to power ratio easy setup

Slim Profile, Plenty of Sound
Jack from Mill Valley, CA on 11/27/2020
I needed to replace an old Sony receiver, and I wanted the new piece to fit in a vertically narrow shelf. So, the slim design was the primary driver of my purchase decision. I'd never owned any Marantz components before. I've had it up and running for about a month now. Very happy with the sound and the features. Plenty of power to fill my room with sound. Set up is pretty straightforward. I did call tech support once because I was getting no sound from the speakers. That was because I tried to play some music right away without going through the set up menu/functions first. Course correction provided in two minutes, and I was on my way. I recommend without reservation.
Pros: Slim Profile Fits Cabinet Shelf Intuitive Interface Design Plenty of Power

Exactly and more than I expected. I was planning on using an external amp to power my two fronts (Altec Model 19) but this works just fine with the internal amps. (Yes, I would love to make the house bounce off the foundations and my ears bleed, but the power provided to them and the rest of the speakers are just perfect)
Pros: Power, configurability, being able to adjust each speaker gain, smaller physical size.

Perfect Fit
Crutchfield customer from Manvel, TX on 7/13/2020
I needed a slimmer receiver to go in our game room. This model was one of the few that could fit in our shelves. It's not the most powerful but has plenty of juice to power our built in speakers. Set up was a breeze and Heos functionality was a plus! Highly recommend to anyone looking to save some space but not compromise on quality.
Pros: Slim, Heos, AirPlay, easy set up.
Cons: Not as powerful

Marantz NR 1510 hit the sweet spot for me!
Crutchfield customer from Oceanside , CA on 5/11/2020
After a few years without an audio reciever (last one died in a fire), the Marantz was an easy decision. I am excited that this unit also includes the ability to stream my Andora/Sirius and Spotify accounts. It came in a well protected packaging, the setup instructions are simple and straight forward. This device eliminated three components in my setup, now I have a surround sound system, and blu Ray player. Awesome setup for the minimalist in me, with limited space and desiring an uncomplicated setup and operation. Definitely would recommend this to my friends.

Nice form factor, no problem filling a large room
Crutchfield customer from Bakersfield, CA on 8/24/2019
I'm knocking off 1 star because the first unit I received was a dud (would immediately turn itself off after being turned on, so never could even start the setup). It is running in a quite large family room open to the kitchen/ breakfast area, with small Paradigm MilleniaOne speakers and Def. Tech. ProSub 1000. Completed the Audessy setup without issue. Running the volume in the 45-55 range so really no problems filling the large room. Bit of a learning curve getting it to work properly with a Logitech Harmony remote (can work against the remote if you don't have all the HDMI and ARC settings correct). No problems so far with BluRay, digital coax, AirPlay. Too bad it won't upconvert the old yellow video cable to HDMI for an old Wii.
