No Hummmm!

I had a completely RANDOM loud hum/buzz coming thru my sub. After speaking with a consultant, I tried this cable at his suggestion. Seems to have done the trick. VERY HAPPY!

Low quality cable

The main reason for choosing an AudioQuest cable for my subwoofer was because it had a ground wire built in. My JBL 1220p sub has a hum that can only be eliminated by grounding the sub directly to my MRX 740 8K. The AudioQuest ground wire did absolutely nothing to eliminate the hum. The continuity test on the AQ cable was good. There were no shorts or breaks. The only reason for the fail is the build quality. I ran a $3 dollar length of 16gauge Romex, for the ground wire, to fix the hum. Although this review was mainly about the ground wire, I'd like to add that there is no audible difference in sound quality when compared to the very basic JBL cable that came with the sub. That says a lot right there. If the AQ cable was in the $10 dollar price range, I would not have bothered with the review, but it cost this much. Attached are pics of the AQ cable and the cable JBL supplied with the sub.

Huge mistake

I paid high dollar for these cables to avoid any problems with my system. I am highly disappointed. What a waste of money. Yes, they worked well at first and yes, they are now 6 years old, but every single AudioQuest cable I own has developed an internal short. This Is the exact problem that I was trying to avoid. I don't get it. I don't have kids or pets, so nobody has abused the cables. The only time they were touched is when they were initially connected. They literally went bad just lying there, untouched. All of them! The Black Labs and the interconnects. I have some old Acoustic Research cables that still work after all these years and didn't cost anywhere near what these cables cost. I am in the process of replacing all of my cables, hopefully for the last time, with the much cheaper SVS cables. I shouldn't have these embarrassing problems popping up out of nowhere when spending that kind of money on a simple cable!

After receiving JK's feedback, we looked up his order and found that his sub cable is still under warranty. While his order is beyond Crutchfield's 60-day return policy, he can contact Audioquest at 800-747-2770 for further information about the lifetime warranty on this cable.

Good quality cable

The cable has a good quality apppearance and functions as expected transmitting a clean sound without distortion. I have not needed to attach the ground wires.

This cord actual made a discernable difference in sound

I do not have a sophisticated ear to usually distiguish between patch cords, until I tried this Black Lab for my Sub. I immediately heard a better, cleaner sounding base. I think there is less interference and noise as a result of changin cords.

Low quality RCA plugs

Do not buy, unless you put higher quality RCA plugs on the ends. The wire is truly excellent, but the plugs are not matched in quality. They are only about .50 cents each to purchase. The wires are not soldered to the plug, but only crimped. Since the wires are a single solid strand (similar to Coax), the crimped joint is too delicate to withstand even mild handling of fishing it under the carpet in a car. I purchased 2 of these (16.4 foot AudioQuest Black Lab) and ran them down the center of '96 4Runner, under the carpet to the cargo area where the Subs were. I used electrical tape and taped 8 inches of each cable to iron mechanics wire, with special attention given not to put stress on the plug. I used the iron wire to fish the cables under the carpet to the back. The plugs were too weak and did not endure the fishing process. Both cables had shorts in the plugs. I had to cut the plugs off and put new, higher quality ones on. The plugs that come on these are only .50 cents each. They're so cheap, that in comparison, a $1.89 RCA plug from the local electronics store seems very high quality. Don't buy these unless you your ready to put higher quality ends on them. A few days later, I needed to buy another 16.5 ft sub cable. I DID NOT purchase other Audio Quest. I Puchased a SVS SoundPath RCA Audio Cable. The plugs are significantly better quality. The wire seems excellent, but is multi strand with strong soldered, durable connections.

I really like the quality of this cable for the price. The connectors fit snugly and it is flexible enough for easy routing. Sound quality is great. I use other Audioquest Audio cables to connect my amps and processor. I have always been pleased with their performance.

Price and quality meet at a great intersection with the perfect cable for LFE in with rugged design and quality looks. Would buy a thousand times over and I have purchased this item for two separate subwoofers and never had a problem (like I did with lower quality cables that cost close to the same).

Best value in a sub cable

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have purchased an AudioQuest Black Lab subWOOFer cable, and nearly all of my interconnects and speaker cables are AudioQuest brand. They are an excellent company with a wide range of products, and I have never found them to be anything but outstanding at what they do. This sub cable is excellent and does all I could want to deliver a high quality signal to my SVS sub. I am using it with a BlueSound PowerNODE 2i, and as always, I am more than happy. I recommend this cable to everyone with a home theater or HiFi system, as it just plain works and is quite reasonable in cost. Don't let the cheap price tag fool you - this is quality!

Oh wow! I was getting a bad interference, a continuous "electrical humming", especially at "low musical passages" from the SW connection I was using previously. Once I replaced the old cable with the Audio Quest, magic happened before my own ears.

Good quality cable.

Nice cable. Very flexible. Seems well made. Replacement for Metra series 2000 cable that came apart. Smaller wire diameter than my old Monster subwoofer cable. However it is not as stiff to bend around your components. Sound quality is very good.

Can't say I know how it differs from any other cable. I do wish there was any subwoofer cable that had a 90 degree bend on the end going into the sub to allow it to move closer to the wall.

Awesome Sub Cable

Capital "A" Awesome sub cable. The concept and branding with the cool Black Lab dog is brilliant. The cable's quality and performance are excellent. I appreciate its thin cable and RCA connectors that allowed me to squeeze the through the holes in our walls and floors for discreet installation. The grounding wire connections are thoughtful enhancements to eliminate humming. I savored my old-school feelings connecting them to my receiver and sub chassis that reminded me of grounding my turntable back in the analog days. My sub sounds better. The BL cable is valuable as a higher-cost investment that is well worth it. Well done and thank you, Black Lab and Crutchfield. Cheers.

Subwoofer had a hum that wouldn't go away. Installed this cable with ground and instantly fixed the problem. Sound quality was improved as well. I'm a really big fan of AudioQuest products. Even their entry level stuff is made of great quality!

Efficient and effective

I needed a long cable for my second subwoofer so I chose AudioQuest once again. I have another shorter Black Lab on one sub and it has worked perfectly. I needed this length to reach my other sub on the other side of the room so this was my best choice. Excellent Subwoofer Cable

Due to moving my Sub (Martin Logan Dynamo 1000) approximately 5 feet in my listening room, my 10 Ft Black Lab was a couple feet short. I had a nos 12' Monsterbass 300 sub cable still unopened in it's original packaging in my spare parts stash, so, I connected it thinking it may be a comparable replacement - Wrong! The degradation in my sub's performance was dramatic. The subwoofer sounds muddy, loose and undefined compared to it's previous performance with the Black Lab. It is important to note I did not change any of the sub's settings or plug it into a different power source/surge protector. I even used the same cd that was in the player (Collective Soul - "Dosage"). Needless to say, I immediately ordered a new Irish Red (Thanks Crutchfield!) and can't wait for it to arrive. I am not an Audiophile and own very modest gear (Marantz SR4200/ND8006/MM7025) feeding my mid 90's (bought new and much loved) Polk S10 3-way speakers. I was a little skeptical when reading about the importance of upgrading patch cables and especially subwoofer cables a few years ago, but, I'm glad I recently upgraded to all Audioquest cables.

Nice subwoofer cables.

I recently bought a Martin Logan Dynamo 1600 X subwoofer to go with a Nova 500 integrated amp and PSB Imagine T 2 floor standing speakers. I got 2 Audioquest Black Lab subwoofer cables for the left and right subwoofer inputs. I did not need the grounds for my setup. These aren't Audioquest's best subwoofer cables but were more than adequate for me. Maybe there's a point of diminishing returns with high end cables.

I would buy again

I was in doubt is this cable would make my Martin Logan 1000 sound better. I previously been using a Mediabridge cable I got online and since I did a serous system upgrade I decided to test if this cable could help. I was able to play songs i had previously played a was able to turn the volume up on the sub where previously it would distort. Im sold on Audioquest and will be buying speaker wire for my Martin Logan 60 Xt & 50 Xt

Great cable, it eliminated the (ground loop) hum on my previous cable. The length of 26 feet was catching a lot of RF static. Just be sure to use the grounding wire for best performance.

Excellent Cable

Cables do make a difference in analog stereo applications. This subwoofer cable is high quality and integrates well with my system. RCA connectors have a nice feel and form a positive seal without the twist function some manufacturers add on. Yes, any old RCA audio cable will work to connect a subwoofer, but proper shielding and materials prevent unwanted issues, and the ground wire is a nice feature to prevent hum. A premium product.

One more piece of the audio puzzle

Very nice well made sub cable. I didn't need to use the ground but it is nice to have in the event you need to use it. I was using a very cheap sub cable prior to this. I can't say it made my sub sounds 100% better. What I can say, it did make a difference for the better. And this cable will last. The point is all of the small changes are definitely worth it. They combine to make a nice system into a great system. And a great system is the one that sounds just right to you. I certainly would like to have a $100K system, but really how many people can have that. So you start with something you like and you build on it.

Good boy, good boy, sit, sit, gimmie your paw, here's a Scooby snack for my baby Black Lab! ;) Excellent cable, and doesn't pee on the rug like Fido would! Or gnaw at your socks like my doggies do, instead it'll improve the crap stock cable that most equipment comes with. So buy it! Actually one of my dogs can actually talk, the other day I asked him what's on top of my house, he said "roof roof".
