Mount for any job

Boyo prioritizes fit and a good look with their VTK601HD backup cam. Take your pick from six included mounting brackets for the best possible installation.

Excellent imaging

Boyo's camera provides a 170° HD view of what's behind you. Ultra-low Lux capability means that a lack of light won't be an issue when you're navigating tight spots in reverse. You can wire the camera to display parking lines at the time of installation, and you can select reverse image if you choose to use this as a front-view cam.

Six mounts

With six mounts to choose from, you'll have the tools necessary to pull off a factory-worthy installation. A slim bar-style mount, metal square mount, a metal flush mount, a metal angle mount, a contoured rubber mount, or a license plate mount — the eyeball-shaped camera fits into all of them. And Boyo gives you a 30-foot power cable and a 24-foot video cable to connect the camera to your monitor (not included) up front in your dash.

Note: Boyo includes the hole saw you'll need to cut a 15/16" diameter hole for the supplied flush mount.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features

Overview: The Boyo VTK601HD is a universal 6-in-1 backup camera that includes multiple mounting options, allowing it to be installed in most any vehicle.

Note: The Boyo VTK601HD is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera system when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Camera: The VTK601HD includes an "eyeball" style camera with a 1/3" HD CMOS image sensor and 700 TV lines for 976 x 592 resolution, providing a wide 170° (diagonal) viewing angle. It carries an IP68 waterproof rating and has a Lux of 0.1 for low-light use. The camera's attached 7' video cable includes white and blue looped wires for changing the camera view:

  • White loop: Allows the camera to display a reverse (mirror) image (default), or a non-reversed image if the loop is cut.
  • Blue loop: Allows the camera to display parking-assist lines (default). Cutting the loop disables parking lines.

Mounting: The Boyo universal backup camera kit includes 6 different mounting assemblies, each designed to hold the included HD camera, allowing for installation on most vehicles. Mounts include:

  • Metal Square Bracket: This square housing includes a hinged mounting plate with 3M adhesive for a wide variety of mounting locations.
  • Metal Flush Mount: Allows the camera to be recessed into the mounting surface for a low-profile look.
    • Note: Drilling a 25mm (0.984") hole is required for Flush Mounting.
  • Metal & Rubber Angle Mounts: Either of these two mounts can be installed under a lip or horizontal surface and include 3M adhesive backing.
  • License Plate: This mount uses the Square Bracket housing for the camera, along with a mounting bracket that installs behind the top of a license plate. This allows the camera to over-hang the top of the license plate.
  • Super Slim Bar Type Mount: Allows the camera to be mounted to a wide variety of vertical surfaces including along the top or bottom of a license plate.

Wiring: The backup camera's attached 7' video cable also includes 3' power and ground wires, that can be connected to the vehicle's reverse wire and ground at the back of the vehicle, and a female composite video plug. The included 26' video extension cable also includes a power wire extension built into it, letting you trigger the display with the same reverse wire trigger in the rear, or for powering the camera from a switched +12 connection at the radio or dash location. The 26' video extension cable features male composite video plugs on both ends.

Q

Q
Can the mount be off-center without affecting trajectory/parking lines?
jeffrey  Sep 15, 2023
1 answer
A
Any offset with the camera will affect the parking lines, Christina. Since the lines are not adjustable and not active (they do not move with the steering wheel), mounting the camera as centered as possible will provide the best results when planning to use the parking lines. This is one of my personal favorite backup cameras as it comes with a variety of mounting options!

Greetings Sonny, and thank you for your question. The Boyo camera package is universal. It can work on any stereo with a universal RCA type camera input, including your Kenwood NX 994S.

Q
Can I use this camera with my existing Boyo VT175M windshield mounted display? The original camera I have has gotten very dull/blurry.
mark a  Jul 08, 2021
1 answer
A
I cannot find information on that exact model, but there is a Boyo VTC175M display/camera system. If you have that model, then it is possible to use different backup cameras like this one with it instead of the included camera. If your model is the VT175M (no "C" included in the model number), I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to discuss your model in greater detail to check if it can work with universal backup cameras.

Q
Can you pivot the camera to change the viewing angle in the various mounts? (Ball in socket motion)
total mobility  Jan 12, 2021

A
No
doug  Jan 14, 2021
A
You set the angle when you install it. It is not able to be adjusted from the screen.
sherry  Jan 12, 2021
A
Yes you can
leo  Jan 12, 2021
A
The ability to pivot the camera depends on the mount used. The ability to pivot horizontally is supported by the Bracket, Surface with Rubber and License Plate mounts. The surface with Rubber may support horizontal adjustment as well.
aaron  Jan 12, 2021
A
Yes it does pivot, it doesn't have a lot of motion but I was able to get it exactly how I wanted it.
chandler  Jan 12, 2021
Q
How much depth does the flat mount need? I want to make sure there's enough space between the bumper and the impact bar behind the bumper to mount a camera here.
sophia di  Oct 16, 2020

A
I'm guessing it's around 3/4 of an inch from the face of the camera to the back of the mount
dan  Nov 10, 2020
A
I've looked through our information as well as all the information I could find on Boyo's site but didn't find the dimensions of the flush mount and recommend contacting Boyo by calling 888-941-3060 to see if they can supply its dimensions
jason  Nov 08, 2020 (Staff)
A
You should have plenty of space.

Q
I am going to use 2 of this cameras as side view cameras under my mirrors, what rating of fuses should i use to connect the power wire to switching power source?
peri  Aug 26, 2020
2 answers
A
I have a few backup cameras but none have specified the current draw and I haven't see that in the specs in general. But you can safely assume that the power draw is very little for this small cameras. I would not use more than 5A fuse for both of them. You can even go lower but then you'll have trouble finding good quality fuses.
doru  Aug 26, 2020
A
They don't draw much. I would try a 10 amp fuse

How is the visibility in dark. Wanting to use it to help line up trailers, and reverse lights my not illuminate the hitch? Should I be getting one with lights instead?

Hay Andy,I did use it in a rear. I'm using up front..but I am getting another one to replace the rear camera. The quality of the picture is outstanding.
michael  Jun 23, 2020

It's not bad, but my review is a bit skewed. I have additional and brighter reverse lights on my jeep which come on in reverse which make it very bright. I think alot will depend on the placement of the camera as well....mine is a bit recessed causing more shadows, thus the extra lighting is needed for an average view in dark.
james  Jun 22, 2020
A
I haven't tried it in the dark yet. I'll give it a go tonight and check back.
eric  Jun 22, 2020
A
I have led lights I installed in my bumper and attached to the reverse lights... Makes the world allot brighter.... you could also install them with a switch so that even when you put it in park get it there still illuminated

I would suggest getting lights for night time use.
christopher  Jun 28, 2020

I have LED bulbs in my reverse lights. I think the visibility is great at night. Also, I mounted the camera in the bar right above my license plate. My license plate lights also have LED's so the license plate lights also helps light up camera.
larry  Jun 23, 2020
A
I have mine on a toyota tundra mounted right below the handle. It's good enough to line up the hitch but the quality of image is much worse at night that during the day i.e. you can do the job but don't expect the same clarity of image at night.
rocky  Jun 22, 2020
A
Get one with a light, this camera is poor quality at night
