For a small bass speaker it has a lot of thump. I have always trusted DT
Pros: Small and fit perfect in the space I have Plenty of bass Easy to setup
Cons: Have to adjust the bass if not you can have distortion in the play back

This is a nice small sub-woofer. I have a super cube I use on another stereo system. I'd say they are about the same but I can't really tell since they are in different rooms with different hookups. I did put it on a stand, sounds better up off the floor. My one big complaint is the change in price, I paid way too much! Two weeks after I purchased this the price dropped by $100 dollars! Does not put a smile on my face.

How looow can you go? Actually, pretty darn low! Sounds great with my Orb Audio surround system. Hard to believe the sound coming from this one-foot square box.

A lot of punch packed into this 8" sub. I was hesitant because I already have an 8" and wanted to go with a 10"-12" but I had such a restricted space customer service recommended this sub. It was great, you would never know it was an 8" if you did not know. I definitely got the bass I was looking for. Very pleased with this sub and customer service. Crutchfield rocks and they know their stuff!!

OK- I had no idea my old sub woofer (Also Def Tech) was so sick it was effecting my whole system! THIS ROCKS! Exactly as it should be; audibly invisible until it's called upon.

Great second sub

I added this as a second sub to my set up. I already had a DN10 but didn't have the space for another DN10. I know it's not ideal to have different size subs. However, the DN8 blends nicely after some Audeyssey and manual calibrations. Great deep and clean sounding bass without being too boomy. I got it on when it was on sale. Highly recommend Def Tech subs. My first Def Tech sub lasted 17 years.

Paired with a Yamaha A-S301 and POLK-L100 in my bedroom. Small Space. Location was crucial to make sure it isn't too boomy. I find it a very compatible addition to the L100 which are already by themself spectacular. I only have the PSW10 to compare and this subwoofer absolutely outperforms it in every aspect.
Pros: Compact, fills my bedroom with ease.
Cons: Didn't bring a subwoofer cable. Only power cable.

I appreciate the ease of adjusting the volume and the crossover. I also like the flexibility of using either powered or passive mode, depending on the audio source.

This is a really nice sub def tech really puts together a nice package it's built really nice and it's like a piece of furniture it's nice to look at and even the 8" sub goes deep and to top it off they put it in a cloth black bag I would definitely buy this sub again it's got class

Got it all hooked up and used the microphone for the audyssey speaker set up on the denon av receiver. Everything really sounds great. Makes a huge difference when it's all set up for your room.

Bigger than Expected Sound in an 8" Subwoofer

I bought this Definitive Technology (DefTech) "Descend DN8" subwoofer to replace a 60-watt "Energy" ESW-C8 sub that I bought back around 2012. The "Energy" still works, it just wasn't giving my the level of bass that I wanted these days. ??I have been totally amazed by the power, and the bass, of the DN8 in my medium-size living room! With movies, the boom of explosions I can now not just hear, but also, feel! (And I don't even have the volume on it turned up halfway!) It's a great improvement to the movie experience in my 5.1.2 home theater system. As for music, the bass was a little too apparent at first in a variety of types of music (i.e., rock, funk, jazz, AND classical). But after two months of use, it seems to have mellowed a bit, and the bass now has the right amount of "presence." With rock and funk, the bass now seems tighter, with some "punch." With classical music, bass instruments are apparent, but don't "intrude." And with some organ music (e.g., by J.S. Bach), some of the pedal work stands out more. If you want, or need, a small sub that gives you BIG sound, I think the DN8 is it!
Pros: A lot of bass from an 8" subwoofer. Fits nicely in a relatively small space. Visually unobtrusive.
Cons: I wish it had a "Power on/Standby" light on the front of it instead of in the back. Not really a "Negative", but be aware that if you're putting it in a cabinet, (or, I think, between two pieces of furniture) the owner's manual says that you should have at least 2 inches of space on either side. ( I assume this is for the passive radiators in this subwoofer to perform optimally.)

I now have 2 of these subwoofers, let me tell you these 8in subwoofers pack a big punch. The amount of bass that they produce is amazing, I'm so glad I added the second one. The walls and floor in my house shake they even vibrate the dishes in my kitchen cabinets. I love them!

The sound quality on this subwoofer is a home run for both music and movies. I enjoy that even on lower volume levels that this sub will impress most. For the size you can not go wrong. I did return it and purchased a DN12 instead. If all I had room for was a 8" subwoofer then this is the sub for you.

small sub with big sound

Using this to augment a pair of Def Tech DT-8Rs installed in the ceiling of our exercise room. It replaces an 8" Yamaha sub that finally packed up after 25+ years of faithful service. The difference is profound. The room is 12x15 with a 10' ceiling and a tile floor, with the sub on an Auralex SubDude-II. It's driven by the SW out on a Yamaha A-S301, primary source is optical out from an older MacBook Pro playing mainly lossless .m4a files. This little unit puts a remarkable amount of clean, tight bass for such a small footprint. It's excellent for the crunchy rock/metal we work out to, and would probably do a fine job for home theatre in a smaller room. Very happy with it and plan buy another one for my office. Bonus - it went on sale two days after I ordered it. Five minutes on the phone with a friendly CS agent and I had the difference credited back on my card. Thanks Crutchfield!

Amazing Sound For The Size

I bought this sub to replace a 8 inch Polk PSW111 that finally bit the dust after ten years. What a fantastic upgrade! The level of bass out of this small thing is unbelievable! I normally set the Polk at half volume, but the DN8 I have at 1/4 volume. I would definitely recommend if in the market for an 8 inch sub.

Cliff notes review* Awesome for a small room! My room is 12'x12' and this tiny little guy can absolutely destroy the place! It looks great but can be easily hidden. For movies I wouldn't go much bigger in a room size without going for the DN10 or DN12. The DN8 was absolutely lost in my 20x20 room. For music you should be fine.
