Celebrating 25 years of 600 Series excellence

Bowers & Wilkins are celebrating 25 years of their brilliant and popular 600 Series by offering special Anniversary Editions of this classic lineup. The 606 S2 Anniversary Edition presents versatile options for music and movie lovers. You can set up a traditional stereo pair to get dynamic, accurate sound for music listening, or use them as a front pair or as surrounds in a fantastic voice-matched home theatre setup. Add a pair of Bowers & Wilkins STAV speaker stands to make them sound even better.

The Anniversary Edition features some celebratory cosmetic changes — a special tweeter trim ring and a new oak finish option — plus an upgraded and optimized crossover design.

The Bowers & Wilkins 1" Decoupled Double Dome tweeter

The 1-inch Decoupled Double Dome tweeter in Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 speakers delivers clear, distortion-free highs.

Proprietary drivers

A closer look at Bowers & Wilkins' driver technology will give you some idea of why this speaker sounds so good.

The 1" Decoupled Double Dome tweeter features a thin, light aluminum dome, surrounded by a second, thicker ring that reduces distortion. The assembly is decoupled from the mount to isolate it from cabinet vibrations that can colour sound.

The 6-1/2" Continuum™ cone bass/midrange driver borrows technology from the company's high-end 800 Series. The cone's composite construction delivers precise vocals and instruments and smooths transitions.

Flowport™ for better bass

This relatively compact speaker pair offers surprisingly deep bass, thanks to Flowport technology. Its bass reflex enclosure features a rear-firing, dimpled and flared port that provides natural bass response without the turbulent "chuffing" that standard ports can create. Each speaker includes a two-piece foam plug that can be inserted if you want to adjust bass response to your liking.

Build a complete Bowers & Wilkins system

These speakers are voice-matched to others in the 600 Anniversary Edition Series, so you can build a seamless surround sound system.

A rich history of audio excellence

Founded in England in the 1960s, Bowers & Wilkins is known worldwide for their innovative hi-fi speaker designs and their premium headphones. Crutchfield is proud to offer a diverse selection of products from this legendary audio brand.

Features

1" Decoupled Double Dome Aluminum Tweeter: The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 bookshelf loudspeaker adopts a refined and upgraded version of the proven Decoupled Double Dome Aluminum tweeter (1"), offering 38kHz breakup performance. The Decoupled Double Dome tweeter uses a thin and light aluminum dome, surrounded by a thicker ring, to prevent audible distortion. Decoupling also helps prevent cabinet vibrations reaching the tweeter. Synthetic gel cushions the decoupled tweeter, with the assembly isolated from the mounting hardware. The result is a more natural, spacious, and pure sound.

6.5" Continuum Cone Midbass/Midrange Driver: The 606 S2 bookshelf loudspeaker features a single 6.5" Continuum cone midbass/midrange driver, borrowed from B&W's 800 Series Diamond. Thanks to its composite construction, the Continuum cone provides a smooth and accurate sound by avoiding the abrupt transitions in behavior that can impair the performance of a conventional drive unit and cause distortion. As a result, voice and instruments are delivered with purity and precision.

Optimized Crossover Design: The Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series Anniversary Edition 606 S2 bookshelf speaker benefits from a new optimized crossover design featuring carefully selected components, offering greater detail from your music.

Flowport Technology: The B&W 606 S2 bookshelf speaker utilizes Flowport Technology to create smooth, deep, and efficient bass response. Its bass reflex enclosure features a rear-firing, dimpled flared port that provides natural bass response without turbulent noise or distortion. If you want to reduce the volume of bass without moving the speaker further from the wall, fit the included foam plug into the rear-firing port for lesser bass response.

Note: You can adjust the bookshelf speaker's low-frequency performance using the supplied foam plug. The foam plug is two-pieces, allowing for a degree of fine-tuning using either the outer, larger-diameter piece in isolation or the two parts together. Using solely the outer, larger-diameter foam piece will deliver less bass attenuation than the complete foam plug assembly.

Acoustically Transparent Magnetic Grille: The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 bookshelf loudspeaker comes with an acoustically transparent magnetic grille that's easy to install, looks great, and doesn't get in the way of the sound.

Dual Binding Post Terminals: The bookshelf speaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumper straps. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, or banana plugs (single only). There are plastic inserts that will need to be removed from the binding post terminals in order to use banana plugs. Using the dual binding posts terminals, you can choose to bi-amp or bi-wire the speaker (when facing the back of the cabinet - the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier.
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.

Note: Make sure the jumper straps between the dual binding post terminals are removed when making a bi-amp or bi-wire type of connection.

Mounting & Placement Options: The Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 bookshelf loudspeakers can be placed on a set of speaker stands (sold separately - see Accessories Tab), a table-top, shelf, or other piece of AV furniture. The included self-adhesive rubber feet prevent unwanted vibration and protect your furniture from scratches (the feet add approximately 0.25" to the overall height of the speaker). The B&W 606 S2 bookshelf speaker should be positioned as close to ear level of the main seated listening position as possible. Moving the speaker further from the walls will generally reduce the volume of bass. Space behind the speakers will also help to create an aural impression of depth. Conversely, moving the speakers closer to the walls will increase the volume of bass.

  • Stereo Setup: The bookshelf speakers should be positioned between 4.9375' and 9.875' apart at two corners of an equilateral triangle completed by the listening area at the third corner. The speakers should be approximately 1.625' away from the back wall, and at least 1.625' away from any side walls.
  • Home Theater: If the bookshelf speakers are to be used for the front channels in a home theater system, position the speakers within approximately 1.625' of the sides of the TV screen to keep the sound image in scale with the visual image. The speakers should ideally be at least 1.625' away from any side walls.

Note: The B&W speaker does not come with a mounting bracket, threaded insert, or keyhole slot to wall-mount the speaker. However, you can use as side-clamp mounting bracket (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) to wall-mount the speaker.

Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series (Anniversary Edition): The 600 Series Anniversary Edition delivers Bowers & Wilkins' storied sound in simple 2ch stereo applications or more complex home theater setups. The 600 Series Anniversary Edition consists of one floorstanding loudspeaker (603 S2), two bookshelf loudspeakers (S606 S2 / S607 S2), and a center-channel loudspeaker (HTM6 S2) - all sold separately.

Optional Powered Subs: If you want even more bass, add one of Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series powered subs (ASW608 / ASW610 / ASW610XP) - all sold separately.

Q
How do these compare to B&W 601s, 602's, 603's and 607s?
kenneth  Feb 19, 2023

A
I have a pair 804 floor speaker and the 606 matching up well. For the price it's a good buy at the time. I don't try other models so I can't answer the question. Everybody have different taste so you have to listen to what you want before buying it! Wish you find what you like ??
andy  Feb 20, 2023
Q
The B&W 606 S2 Anniversary Editions are being placed in a cabinet and unfortunately the top tweeter is partial blocked in the normal position. My question is what is best, place them upside down or sideways?
scott  Aug 14, 2021

A
I tested it and it does not matter. If your cabinet is vertical, I would turn them upside down and then reverse the magnetic grill. Love these speakers.
michael r.  Aug 16, 2021
A
I purchased the 606 S2 Anniversary Edition in White Gloss. I haven't had any problems with the speakers at all. I would think B&W would have a recall.
rick  Aug 15, 2021
A
I don't know. I would rather place them sideways than to have any part of the loudspeaker blocked. You said they are being placed in a cabinet. Do they have ample room for rear venting? This would be a consideration as well. Hopefully the Crutchfield specialists can give you more definite advice. Good luck and enjoy.
gregg  Aug 15, 2021
A
The answer depends on their height, relative to your listening position, in the cabinet. Ideally the tweeter will be close to ear-level. Put them in whatever position gets them closest to that.
gabriel  Aug 15, 2021
A
I would probably place them sideways.
derek  Aug 14, 2021
A
As I'm sure you know that is not an ideal location and I'm not sure either of the solutions you suggest will make things much better. Quite bit if money to spend for that outcome. If you have no other location choices, you might look for a different pair of speakers that have a front port rather than a rear port like these. And maybe smaller so they fit better.
scott  Aug 14, 2021
A
I placed mine tweeter up but just try it and see what works best for you
douglas a  Aug 14, 2021
Q
Can the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S2 Anniversary Edition be laid sideways?
scott  Aug 13, 2021
6 answers
A
Yes. The drivers are positioned where you are able to.
robert  Aug 15, 2021
A
They're probably supposed to be vertical with the tweeter on top but I think they'd still sound good sideways.
neal  Aug 14, 2021
A
Won't hurt them if that's the only way they'll fit your space but I'd suggest doing so with the tweeters pointed to the outside of each speaker
scott  Aug 14, 2021
A
Yes Scott you can lay them sideways but I would not recommend that because it will affect the dispersion of the sound as engineered by B& W
edward  Aug 14, 2021
A
No if they wanted them sideways they would have made them that way
ronald  Aug 14, 2021
A
Sure. The box is completely flat on all sides so it sit flush no matter if it sits on the bottom, side or even upside down if you wanted to have the tweeter below the main driver. I really love the sound they put out. I added the small B&W subwoofer and it is incredibly powerful. I have it set very low and it rounds out the brightness inherent in the 606s. I tend to like a bit brighter sound as it is more energetic with amazing detail.
michael  Aug 14, 2021
Q
What is the difference between the B&W 606 and 607? Just physical size and the 20 watt power rating?
geoff  May 21, 2021
3 answers
A
I don't know the difference because I've never heard the 607 but my 606's sound so AMAZING. I listen to music and movies and everytime I'm just blown away by the detail and clarity oh and the bass is just right without a sub but even better with a sub.
jose  May 23, 2021
A
Correction: Driver size is listed backwards. 606 has the larger driver.
michael  May 21, 2021
A
607 has a 6.5" driver 606 has a 5" driver 606 4db higher sensitivity so it will play louder with the same wattage. I did not listen to the 607. I am really happy with the 606. Very detailed, expansive & precise imaging. Tend to be on the brighter side, but this is what I wanted. I paired them with a B&W ASW 608 and keep the volume very low. Just enough to boost some detailed bass. This is really helpful for a double bass and separating bass drum with great tonality.

I have the black speakers and the dust covers are black. In the end I keep them off most the time any way. More importantly, they sound amazing. I paired them with the Cambridge CXA 61 and can't believe how great they sound. Really silky and lifelike. Practically holographic. Speakers truly disappear acousticly speaking.

I have a old Yamaha receiver with a independent carver amp and they do just find. I'm about as experienced as you with this kind of thing but i would suspect almost any receiver you choose would be find. I am currently looking at the denon 4500 for my needs. Crutchfield has a great program to help you decide which receiver to choose for the system you intend to run. I can tell you, if you choose these speakers the sound is incredible.

I purchased a NAD C 316BEE V2 at the same time as the B&W 606's. First time listening I was not impressed as I had hoped to be but after a few hours of playing the system came alive. I am completely satisfied.
