The device was not "Roon Ready" as described in some of the product displays, and I haven't been able to get it to unfold MQA. I like the other features and being able to use it as a replacement for my pre-amp. I enjoy the sound on my Audiophile system, but my ears are old and limited.

Great for CD transports
Scott from Henderson, NV on 4/13/2025
Replaced an SMSLDO 300 that supposedly had better specs, but this thing is much cleaner paired with my Cambridge transport. Sound stage is excellent and adding an AI power adapter really brought out the bass. I listen to a lot of metal like Cannibal Corpse and it has brought out bass lines that were previously buried in the mix. Very solidly made as well. It's a piece of metal not a piece of plastic. I would recommend it to anybody looking to hook it up with a transport. I can't say much for streaming capabilities because I don't really use it for streaming. I prefer CDs.

Great Product & Great Customer Service!
Jeff from Springville, UT on 4/11/2025
After reading all the reviews, I realized I needed to purchase the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M. As I had not purchased from Crutchfield before, I thought I would place my order with them after reading about their amazing customer service. Unfortunately, the product was backordered for 3 weeks but I placed my order anyway. Four days later, I received an email stating my order had just shipped! Even more surprising I was advised that it shipped UPS Second Day Air! I had not specified air freight and I had not been charged extra for it. 3 days later I received a double boxed, factory sealed DacMagic 200M. It works perfectly and I am very pleased with the sound and performance. I am just kicking myself for not purchasing it earlier. Kudo's to Crutchfield for selling a great product with great customer service. Although this was my first purchase, it definitely won't be the last.

Surprisingly Large Jump in Performance.
Graves from Charlotte, NC on 4/11/2025
Works amazingly well with my PC and iPhone. Use with an amp via XLR and Focal Hadenys. Love it. It's ultimately an upgrade over a setup I'd been happy with for five years. Genuinely didn't realize how much imaging and soundstage I was missing out on with my tried and true setup.
Pros: Super clean and quiet. Really appreciate that it "boots up" very quickly and also has an auto shutoff. Plus having the leds for different quality levels is both informative and an entertaining side quest as I try out different file types. Was nervous it would work with my iPhone but works like a champ with the Apple lightning-USB camera adapter
Cons: It's a tad deeper that would be ideal on my desk, but worth it to make everything fit.

Perfect. Works exactly as intended connected to my powered speakers, blue ray player, and desktop PC. Only thing to look out for is to make sure to read the manual and update your computers drivers if needed.
Pros: Great sound, easy to use, looks great
Cons: Can't leave headphones plugged in and listen to speakers at same time. Plugging in headphones disables line out.

Truthful objective analysis
Crutchfield customer from MARTINEZ, GA on 3/14/2025
I am not an audiophile. I wanted a DAC that would show/verify the bit rate arriving at my AVR. I had already upgraded my 4 streaming audio systems in my home so they were all receiving lossless files simultaneously. The sound was a killer upgrade over my old Airplay 2 method. I also wanted to determine if I could in fact hear a difference using an external DAC. I actually did hear a wonderful difference especially at Higher volumes. More discrete instruments separation was ascertained vis a vis no DAC. My hearing is not good enough to notice nuances in sound quality that audiophiles report however. All I can tell the average person who loves music & does not consider themselves "audiophiles" that they will in fact hear a clear positive difference. . I play rock music Loud & have been doing so 57 years. Plus Crutchfield is THE ONLY company to deal with - they put the SERVICE back in customer service.

beautiful design, beautiful sound, consistently wonderful
David from BELLEVUE, WA on 2/28/2025
I purchased this to be part of my desktop audio setup, which I use while working my full-time desk job. Usually I listen with headphones (Audeze LCD-2 open back) and when I'm alone, I listen through desktop speakers (Kanto Yu2). I'm an amateur audiophile, I haven't invested too much, my ears aren't super refined. I don't necessarily notice different bit rates very dramatically. However what I can say is that this has been operating flawlessly for the 16+ months I've had it, and I always just love the sound. And it is definitely nicer than the Dragonfly I was using before (I'm not criticizing, this is a higher price point and totally different product.) I mostly listen through USB, and sometimes through Toslink. It has never skipped a beat, it just always works. I appreciate the distinct volume controls for headphones vs speakers. And I love the design, it just looks beautiful on my desk. The volume knob feels nice, the power button feels nice. This has been one of my best purchases. I think the only thing I would wish for would be a button to switch between headphones and speakers. The only way to swap is to pull the headphone jack out.
Pros: Beautiful design, very aesthetic to use. Sounds wonderful always, never skips a beat. Very happy after 15+ months of mostly daily use.
Cons: Headphone jack must be removed to switch to speakers; I would love a toggle switch or button.

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M

Bought this to use with a pair of Sennheiser HD560S headphones and AudioEngine powered speakers and boy do they sound good! The sound is very detailed and rich. Vocals are clear, highs are crisp and bass is detailed and clear. This is my first DAC and it has not disappointed. I'm not sure how much more an expensive DAC could squeeze out of the signal than the DacMagic 200M does!

Not impressive over current AVR
Sergei from Riverwoods, IL on 1/19/2025
I am currently evaluating the value of the Cambridge Dacmagic 200M with my existing AVR/Stereo system. When using the DAC with existing home theater systems, can it enhance our listening experience in independent 2 channel stereo? The DAC may have value if we can bypass the AVR and CD/Blu-ray player DAC. Many AVR receivers have what is called a Home Theater bypass. Brand name receivers such as mine (Pioneer Elite) have a listening mode called Stream Pure Direct. PURE DIRECT "Plays unmodified sound from source with only minimum digital treatment." Also, while listening through the Cambridge DAC the subwoofer is deactivated. My thinking is in PURE DIRECT MODE on the AVR (which I use for everything else in surround sound 5.1) I could potentially achieve independent 2 channel stereo when listening to my music source (CD, SACD, DVD-A, Blu-Ray audio) with the following setup: 1. AVR set to Pure direct listening mode 2. Power amp (Rotel) to preamp on AVR driving front B & W 804 speakers 3. CD & Blu-Ray player digital output to Cambridge DAC 4. Cambridge unbalanced output - RCA inputs to AVR/DAC set to Pure direct 5. AVR remote - A/B comparison : AVR (2.1) & Cambridge DAC (2.0) In compared numerous musical genre I DID NOT find any startling difference between the AVR and Cambridge DAC. At best I found subtle differences : clarity, precision or warmth. Perhaps due to the fact that the subwoofer is turned off. Only for solo instrument or voice.
Pros: Easy setup Good documentation in manual Numerous audio input options
Cons: Little value with existing Home Theater systems even when you bypass the AVR DAC. VC is continuous with no tactile or visual guide to level of output.

Essential link between digital and analogue
Ken from Davis, CA on 12/14/2024
I am unsure how I lived so long without this device in my audio arsenal. The sounds of my vinyl filling the room with analogue warmth is something I longed to reproduced for my much larger and easily accessed digital music collection. Frustration with small Bluetooth speakers are now a thing of the past. This DAC worked immediately and seamlessly with my medium-end amp and speakers. It connects and stays connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone and the warm sounds fill the room..if you love your analogue sound buy one of these to resurrect your digital music library.
Pros: Easy setup, consistent functioning, quality build.
Cons: It's pricey and I haven't regretted a penny.

Significant System Upgrade
Les from Columbia, MO on 7/18/2024
I have a ROTEL RC-1570 Preamp that has a Wolfson DAC internal to the preamp. I was running my Cambridge Audio CXC CD Transort to the ROTEL preamp using a digital optical cable. I recently upgraded my phono preamp to a Rega (I was using the phone preamp in the ROTEL RC-1570) and saw a significant upgrade in audio quality so I thought, what the heck, I'll try upgrading my DAC also. After doing quite a bit of research and limiting my budget to $1,000 (including any needed cables) I settled on the DacMagic 200 because of the reviews and it seemed to be a natural fit to my CXC CD transport. I also chose to use XLR cables (Ethereal Velox also purchased from Crutchfield) versus RCA cables to connect to the preamp in hopes of yet better sound quality. The end result is a pretty significant increase in the sound quality of my system when playing CDs. I have played around 20 Mobile Fidelity CDs and each seems to have woken up a bit more! Definitely a worthy investment to my stereo system. Also, Crutchfield customer service is second to none!
Pros: Dual DACs Solid Construction XLR Balanced Outputs Straightforward Operation Supports MQA Nice Bluetooth Feature
Cons: None

Excllent sound in a small box
Jaime from CAGUAS, PR on 4/28/2024
Bought this together with the MNX10, excellent combination, this DAC is excellent, its twin ESS Sabre ES9028 converter is excellent. Sound is detailed and clear, I like a lot its XLR connectivity, which I do prefer to regular rca interconnects. Its small footprint match perfectly with the MNX10 for stacked placement, preferably the DAC Magic 200 on top since it runs at more temperature than the MNX10 (nothing to worry about. Its auto-stand by is a plus.
Pros: It's DAC, sound, price
Cons: No remote or app controlled, although really don't need at all.

Pleasant Hill
Michael from Pleasant Hill on 4/24/2024
When changing between any of the three filters on the DM200M, music will be paused and an interesting sound is momentarily emitted through my speakers. I can only describe it as a rapidly-fading ringing. What a nice touch Cambridge put on the otherwise trivial act of cycling filters! Except, it did the same thing when I pushed the volume knob - which acts as a mute button. The same noise. Okay, well, whatever. After listening to the DM200M for a while, trying to convince myself it was actually making a positive impact upon my listening, I paused the CD. And the same noise... I had not touched the DM200M so how did it just make that sound? With that sound in mind, I continued listening and couldn't shake the revelation that THAT'S what it was doing to my music and there isn't any sane rational voice that can convince me it is a good thing let alone acceptable. I RMA'd this thing once thinking it was an anomoly (Thanks Crutchfield tech support [Chibi], you are awesome!), and will have to do it again. You guys really need to just take whatever stock you have left of these things and just send them back to Cambridge.
Pros: Looks nice. Has XLR outs. Nifty micro LED indicators. Handles lots of formats.
Cons: Not so well-damped post-impulse ringing. Performance over 14-year-old AVR built-in DAC did not impress. At all.

Cambridge DAC Magic 200M
Richard from Slidell, LA on 4/12/2024
I use the Cambridge DAC Magic 200M with the Cambridge CXC v2 CD transport. They were purchased together. The two are literally made for each other and work together very well. My system is made up of these two source components, a Jolida JD502b integrated tube amplifier (60 WPC/KT88/12AX7/12AT7), and Klipsch Heresy IV speakers. I am using the Tributaries Model 2AD Series 2 coaxial cable to feed the DAC, and Audioquest Evergreen interconnects to feed the amplifier. My speaker cables are Kimber 4VS. This combination is superb. The DAC is a nice compact size. The controls are simple. The Filters are nice and sound similar to each other. The soundstage and imaging that I am hearing is amazing. The controls on the transport are straight forward and work well. The lack of a remote to control the DAC is not an issue for me. I also like the way it works with my TV and the sound that it produces is very good. I highly recommend the Cambridge DAC Magic 200M. It is very versatile, packed with usable features, and produces an outstanding sound with the components that I am using.
Pros: Great design and build. Loaded with many features. Produces a high fidelity sound when paired with other quality components. Compact.
Cons: None for my use.

Not controllable via a remote
Gregory from Boulder, CO on 3/24/2024
I didn't catch in the specs that the unit did not include a remote, nor is it controllable via remote. This prevents using a universal remote to switch input sources. This is not the end of the world but I probably wouldn't have bought it had I noticed pre-purchase.

An Exceptional DAC
Craig from North Bend, OR on 3/19/2024
First-off, I seldom write reviews of my audio gear. But as a long time audiophile and owner/user of the Levinson No. 37 transport, that has no onboard DAC, I've had to choose and purchase my own over the years-- and have tried and used quite a few different ones. My previous, and most used, was the original Cambridge DAC Magic. I was very happy with the original DAC Magic but also tried others such as the well regarded V-90 by Musical Fidelity that I considered to be another high performance and very musical component. But it was the DAC Magic that made my Vandersteen 2Ce Sig. II's "sing" and brought out the best in my listening environment. BUT, this latest version, the DAC Magic 200M, just totally fits with my existing system, and yes, I still have the 'Steens. I'm presently using a Marantz 8006 all analog integrated amp while waiting for another higher spec. Integrated as I gave up separate amp/pre-amp some years ago. The DAC Magic 200M immediately impressed me with it's sheer "musicality", strong stereo image and wide sound-stage when supported by the CD. I now have an all CD based system and this new DAC by Cambridge has made me a real believer in quality DACs with high performance DAC chips. It's excellent. As much as anything, I love listening for the timbre of singer's voices, and especially women's voices-- the "breathiness" of Diana Krall in jazz ballads, and gravelly voice of Leonard Cohen along with purity of Jennifer Warnes in "Famous Blue Raincoat".
Pros: Overall, it's very "musical" with high resolution-- but without being analytical. Strong stereo imaging and wide sound stage. Also, it's a bit "rich and warm"-- and I like "rich and warm". Pace, rhythm, and timing very good too.
Cons: This "black box" has more options than this "Old dog" really needs-- some a little confusing-- but I'll take them to get the excellent music it helps to provide.

DacMagic 200M falls short.
Joe from Tucson, Arizona on 3/4/2024
In 2015, I bought a product called the Olive One. They no longer make it, but the sound quality and the sound from the bluetooth via my I-Pod are simply outstanding. Because it had such high quailty sound, and the fact that I've owned quite a bit of Cambridge Audio equipment, I decided to pull the trigger on the DacMagic 200M. Please note that I'm running it through a McIntosh system. I'm sad to say that it works, but the quality of the sound is simply choked throughout the spectrum of sound. The Olive One, no longer made, leaves it in the dust. My direct connect Sony 300CD cx355 is also excellent through my McIntosh system. The DacMagic 200M simply kills the quality of the sound. My. only positive is that it does broadcast bluetooth. The downside is the sound quality is so poor. I'd mistakenly thought, due to my past experiences with CA is that the quality would, at least, measure up to the Olive One. It's not even remotely close. I think CA is on the right track, but they need to up the sound quality; a lot. For its performance, it should be half the price. I'll hang onto it to play bluetooth through my Bose radio. That's about all it's good for. And, the antenna is too small. Better be close to your system.
Pros: It does send blue tooth to your system. Small and compact.
Cons: Sound quality is very poor and its price is too high for that reason. The antenna is too small limiting broadcast reception distance. CA went cheap on the unit and it shows in the sound quality and reception of bluetooth.

So far, so good. Transitioning to streaming (via WIIM Pro, Apple Play to start), and much prefer the DAC in the Cambridge with my Harbeth speakers (like the British warmth with clarity). Curious about how it will work with Magnepan speakers that are on order. The difference between the DAC in my CD player and the Cambridge is closer, but again prefer the DacMagic. It would be convenient if the DacMagic 200M had a remote for switching between inputs and filters, and for on-off, but its lack is not a deal-breaker.

Awesome DAC!
John from SILVERDALE, WA on 8/9/2023
I use my new Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M with my WiiM PRO to stream music, and with my LEAK CDT to play CDs and MP3 files with the USB on the LEAK. The DacMagic works seamlessly on my system to help produce awesome music. My system is a combination of vintage and new. The vintage components are a CARVER CT-SEVEN pre-amplifier and two CARVER TFM-22 power amplifiers. The new is a MOFI UltraDeck +M, KLH Model 5 speakers, and the above mentioned DacMagic, WiiM PRO, and LEAK CDT. The DacMagic is an important part of this system as I stream music a lot, I have a modest CD collection, and a huge catalog of MP3 files. All of that runs through the DacMagic, so it is a major component in my system. I Love It! John

Good piece of hardware fits nicely with my setup. I don't use any of the hardware filters (especially not the horrible MQA format that requires the sound is completely untouched until it reaches the DAC for rendering otherwise it won't turn the little light blue) as I am using software to up-sample to the highest rate the DAC handles, it sounds beautiful.
Pros: 512 DSD native, 768 PCM
Cons: No remote, yet auto shuts off so I have to get back up to turn it on if not playing any music briefly

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M
Bob from Carrollton, GA on 5/5/2023
The DM220M provides a noticeable improvement in music that is played through the DM200M as compared to my Marantz CD6005 CD Player's onboard DAC. the only reason that I have rated this a 4-star rating is that I have to go into my computer's control panel and manually set the computer output for the DM200M sample rate to 24-bit, 384000 Hz (Studio Quality) to be able to obtain the expected music quality. The owner's manual suggests that the unit would change the incoming sample rate automatically, that has not been my experience. MQA and FLAC files seem to only show the incoming sample rate that is set from the computer's control panel. I am not sure if this is a Windows 10 Pro problem or something else Cambrige Audio has not provided me with a solution as of yet. This is how the Owner's Manual states how the unit should act: Incoming sample rate - When the DacMagic 200M is receiving an incoming digital stream, the relevant LED will light up to indicate the incoming digital sampling frequency. For MQA the LED will light up green for MQA, or blue for MQA Studio. If the LED is magenta, then the unit is rendering an MQA stream or file, completing the processing, and allowing playback at the highest possible audio quality. DSD will light up when native DSD or DoP streams are detected.
Pros: Reasonable Price exceptional sound quality
Cons: some options on the unit may not work the same way for every system.

Nice DAC but.
Robert C. from NEW YORK, NY on 3/4/2023
Nice sound with MQA full rendering and decoding. Effective fast, slow, and slow delay filter. LED lights are informative. Frustratingly it has no remote and although it has an auto power down it doesn't have an auto power up. So if you have a remote that can control your system the Dacmagic 200M is the orphan. So leave it on or push the on button when you power up your system. Also has no Ethernet or WiFi.
Pros: Warm sound. MQA Renderer and Decoder. Effective filters.
Cons: No remote. Has auto power off but not auto power on. No WiFi.

Perfect mid-priced DAC
Simon from Ada, MI on 2/9/2023
Completely blown away by this device. Was a bit skeptical since I thought my sound quality was already high using portable DAC from couple of years back, but DacMagic 200M had completely outclassed it. Streaming Tidal Masters from Audirvana or Tidal Connect on RP4 via USB to Denon AVR X-4000 and B&W 602 creates an extremely dynamic and well imaged
Pros: MQA full unfold Connectivity Sound quality Easy of use
Cons: Bluetooth is useless for HI-Res audio

Excellent DAC
Stephen from LILBURN, GA on 2/8/2023
I purchased this DAC to help me improve the sound quality of digital music stored on my laptop computer. My previous setup was simply to run a cable (3.5mm) from the computer to some near field monitors. This DAC was used in conjunction with a AV receiver to power some bookshelf speakers in order to achieve my goals. The DacMagic 200M hardly has to work at all to convert these FLAC files, and it does so effortlessly. It was very easy to setup and put into use and has done everything asked of it from the beginning. It's probably overkill for running my bedroom stereo and may very well be moved to my main stereo to allow me to play these same files, or maybe even some hi-res files, in a larger room/larger stereo configuration. I'm sure it will do so flawlessly as before. Highly recommended.
Pros: Easy setup and operation
Cons: None of note

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M

Lots of issues with Windows (10). Loaded recommended updated driver from Cambridge but unit can't recognize frequency rate of incoming music. So far can only be set manually in Windows. Crutchfield tech support not very helpful. Contacted Cambridge but their tech support not responsive so far. Music sounds great but not interested in setting frequency manually. Will return unit if can't get answer from Cambridge. Disappointing given strong recommendation from Crutchfield for this unit.

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M

The DacMagic 200M is an excellent piece of equipment. I'm using it in a 2.1 system comprised of an Emotiva preamp & XPA 2 Gen 3 power amp , REL sub, Magnapan LRS+ speakers along with streaming Tidal HiFi+ from a dedicated laptop. The MQA music sounds amazing. Crutchfield is an outstanding company to do business with and their tech support is extremely helpful. JSP
Pros: Has all the features/options required to stream Tidal in a high end 2.1 system. Easy to set up & use. Great value for the price.
Cons: No remote control

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M
Arturo from Chicago, IL on 12/9/2022
This DAC is a lot bigger compared to the other DACs I own (2 Pro-Ject models). In my opinion, it has the same sonic qualities as the Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 and both cost about the same price. Both have twin ESS Sabre DACs and I use them with Yamaha and Onkyo receivers with a TIDAL subscription . The audio is really great sounding with MQA. I think you will be happy with either if you are willing to spend 500 bucks. If you can't afford that, you may also enjoy the Pro-Ject Head Box S2 at about half the price which I use with a Technics receiver and that sounds pretty good too.

Class Leading DAC
William from Naperville , IL on 11/30/2022
I've owned a Meridian Director DAC for about 9 years. Solid but not capable of playing MQA files and no XLR outputs. I have a pair of Focal studio monitors with Iso Acoustic stands. Probably overkill for Zoom videos and watching Netflix when my daughter has control of our living room. I was shopping for a new DAC for a very long time, considering spending as much as $1,000 if necessary. There is nothing like the DAC Magic 200M within about $500. You could buy the RME DAC assuming you could find it or something from Schitt Audio. Switching to Audioquest Red River XLR cables and upgrading the DAC has dramatically improved my desktop audio quality and enjoyment. My primary audio system cost about $12,000 but I'd rather sit in the office
Pros: Audio formats supported, price, buy it and keep it for the next 10 years
Cons: Bit larger than expected, not portable like Chord units

A Big Improvement in Listening
Kevin from Key West on 10/23/2022
I don't normally leave reviews, but the Cambridge Audio DAC Magic 200M seems to require a response - a very, very positive response. The DM 200M makes a significant improvement in my listening experience. That certainly deserves 5 stars. Compared to what, you might ask. In my case, I upgraded from a Peachtree Decco-65 that I was using only as a pre-amp and running to a Marantz 7025MM - 140 w/ch amplifier driving Monitor Audio Silver Speakers. I'm using the DAC Magic 200M as the DAC plus pre-amp. There is significantly greater articulation from guitars and pianos. The bass is much cleaner and more resonant. I hear more harmonies in the string passages and pick up the subtle dissonance in complex chords. Also, somewhat astonishingly, the sound is so much better even at low listening volumes. What sources am I using? Mostly CDs and FLAC files (played from a USB hard drive through a Sony Blu-Ray player (as are the CDs where the BRP acts as a transport). My listening is normally jazz and some classical. I also stream through a Sonos but would not use streaming radio stations to make an audio comparison. I'm not into any of the enhanced "Hi-Res" formats (I'm a believer in the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem). If you are a Hi-Res person, then the DM 200M can handle that too. So far, I've done all my listening using the fast (linear) filter option, as per suggestion from a number of sources to become comfortable listening to one of the filters before trying
Pros: Terrific sound Easy set-up & instructions Price
Cons: No remote No 12v trigger Too few Digital Inputs (2 plus USB)

Disappointed
Stephen from Brooklyn, NY on 10/21/2022
DAC sound fine, although this being my first "separate" DAC, I have nothing to compare it to. I've had it for almost a year and early on, I noticed that while the streaming speed indicators work fine when using the Tidal or the Qobuz Apps, they would not change when I chose to listen to internet radio stations to presumably indicated the streaming speed. They would just stay at the last speed the unit had been "receiving" when streaming with the Apps. They would change again when I switched back to the apps, accurately indicating the streaming speed. It started to bother me since I had no idea what the unit was actually doing, even though it did not seem to affect the sound quality. I now use the Qobuz web browser rather than the app, because I find that it doesn't "stutter" like the app, but I miss seeing the streaming speed. I decided to call Crutchfield and I spoke to an advisor. He had no idea what was wrong but promised to call Cambridge. That was two weeks ago, and I've followed up with email, but have heard nothing. I am surprised, because usually my dealings with Crutchfield have been stellar. Additionally, while I have no real reason to use it, the Bluetooth feature is simply awful--constantly disconnecting, etc. I cannot recommend this product and I am disappointed with both Cambridge and Crutchfield.
Pros: Sounds good, but nothing to compare it to.
Cons: Inconsistent streaming speed indications, poor Bluetooth performance, disappointing customer service.

DacMagic 200M Rocks.
Quan from San Diego, CA on 8/23/2022
DacMagic 200M lives higher up to my exceptions. 3-way sounds are all improved to one or two notches and what's more is that I hear what I didn't before: the unheard details. Just yesterday my audiophile called and told me that he'd listened to some Led Zeppelin albums cut in the 70s and that the songs were good but the sound quality was poor and he attributed that to the old-day recording technology. He was wrong. I have another proof to show that DacMagic 200M charges the game because I have the same old Led Zeppelin albums as he does but mine played through the DacMagic 200M reproduce super sound quality. And you know what his system is better and more expensive than mine. His CD player is way more expensive than mine which is now used as a CD transport. I plan to get a solid CDT and of course another Cambridge product: the CXC v2. I'm wondering how much better sound together the DacMagic 200M and the CXC v2 can reproduce.
Pros: Love the dead silence between songs.
Cons: None

Love it
Kent from Southlake, TX on 8/22/2022
Let me start by saying this is my first separate DAC so really don't have a lot of comparative reference. I've been slowly building a small two-channel system for my used to be home office which is now a den for me. Out with some smaller desktop speakers and replaced by Dali Opticon2 Mk II (love them). Out with a lower priced two-channel power amplifier and pre-amplifier replaced by an Arcam SA30 integrated amplifier (fantastic as well). The last piece was that I was using an Oppo BDP-103 for CD's. It all sounded really pretty good but was thinking of replacing the Oppo with something a bit newer (I was using the DAC in the Arcam). Before spending around $1,000 for a new CD player I thought I'd try a DAC first with the Oppo running through it. While not a huge difference in the DAC in the Arcam, the Cambridge did sound better to me, a bit more open and slightly fuller. What really sold me on it was taking Tidal for a test drive and running it through the Cambridge via USB from my iMac. Oh my... the MQA material (especially the higher quality ones) just sound fantastic to my ear. Totally sold. Hearing things in the music that I never heard before and just really spacious. So, in the end very happy with the Cambridge and how it fits into my system.
Pros: Easy Setup Fantastic Price/Performance
Cons: 12 volt trigger would be great Having a remote would be nice

An Inexpensive Stremaer/DAC Solution
Randy from Scottsdale, AZ on 8/16/2022
I will include the Andover Audio Songbird streamer in this review as the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M was also ordered and they were used together. First of all, Crutchfield was helpful in answering questions prior to my selection of these two parts. Up to this point I have been using a Linn Accurate as a front end streamer/DAC for my McIntosh based system. The Linn was a constant battle, constantly requiring attention to see why it wasn't working. Not wanting to jump into an expensive replacement, I looked for a highly rated and inexpensive solution. The Songbird and Cambridge were selected. I was expecting a couple of hours of laborious time to set up with the new network connection. As it turns out, after reading the Crutchfield provided manuals and product provided information, I was up and running in a short time. Very few hassles. Sound is excellent and I am very satisfied. The Streamer and /DAC always work with no hassles. Now I am faced with determining how much better an expensive streamer/DAC would sound. Do I bother....?
Pros: Great sound, always works and easy set up.
Cons: No

Worth the price
Terry from Shalimar, FL on 8/10/2022
I purchased this DAC after a long discussion with one of the Crutchfield techs. I am using this to take the digital signals through an optical cable from an Aorus Master X570 motherboard based media PC to a Yamaha Aventage RX-A2A receiver. To say that the clarity is eyebrow raising is an understatement. All of my digital files are ripped from CD's using dBpoweramp software at the highest bitrate for the source discs. Most are standard 16/44.1 upscaled to 384 kHz. I have a handful of SACD and DVD-audio files. The DACMagic 200M handles and sees the different bitrates easily. With this DAC I might be tempted to take the leap into MQA files just to hear the difference. Of course, that might depend on my speakers...which would mean more combing through Crutchfield's stock and online. That endless search for the next best way to bliss out listening to my music.
Pros: Produces crystal clear sound from multiple formats/sources.
Cons: If you have astigmatism, the bright little LED's will make you see stars when you stare at the front while checking the display. Prepare to squint.

Cambridge doesn't disappoint.
Damien from CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA on 7/10/2022
I purchased this Cambridge because I was wanting to give a listen to MQA, and my previous amp (Massdrop O2 + SDAC) didn't support it. I solely run this as a headphone amp via my PC. I run a pair of Sennheiser HD 600's (for music listening) and a pair of TIN HIFI T2's (for gaming). Straight out of the box with no adjustments, the amplifier sounded fine. It was definitely lacking some bass, and it doesn't help that the HD 600's aren't exactly known for their bass. I opened up EqualizerAPO on my PC, made some adjustments and got the bass I was looking for. After tweaking the EQ, I INSTANTLY fell in love. I sat down and listened to music for the better part of 5 hours. Not only am I able to hear every single detail, but it also feels like I am right there in the studio listening. It genuinely feels like I have just discovered music for the first time. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would. I 100% recommend this product to anyone wanting to take the dive into the "audiophile" world.
Pros: MQA, Dual DAC chips, sleek design
Cons: The auto power off feature is permanently set to 20 minutes. I wish it were variable, or at least set to 30.

Great Dac for the asking price
Thomas from Portland, MI on 4/1/2022
I bought this primarily to add MQA decoding to the AZUR 851N. I feel like reviewing this might matter to somebody who is looking for something similar by way of a Bluesound Node or even another streamer. There isn't a bunch out there about passing MQA from a streamer to an external Dac. More specifically, passing MQA over coax or optical. So here is what I have found: Regarding the 851N; it passes everything it streams untouched from its digital outputs. Coax does up to 24/192 while optical seems limited to 24/96. Everything works perfectly and sounds fantastic. Roon (if you use it) works better when you go into settings and disable core unfolding and change device you are streaming from to both render/unfold. That's it. Quboz does 192 perfectly as well. There is no fuss with this thing. I understand the Bluesound requires a couple of setting changes but I can't speak to that device firsthand. Overall, super happy with this unit for the money spent. One thing of note...the buttons on the the front seem very flimsy. If you plan on switching sources or using it as a pre; I can't see these buttons holding up longterm. Mine is set and forget. All I will need is the power button which seems somewhat more robust than the source, but still not what it should be. That said, it sounds great on my Focal speakers and it works like a dream. As always, love Crutchfield. Bought a tube preamp this week and broke my heart that I couldn't buy it from Crutchfield. Great company full stop.
Pros: MQA over Coax and Optical Sounds well above it's price tag XLR/RCA
Cons: Flimsy buttons on front.

I had the Dac Magic 100 for a whole year. I have two Polk LSI 702 speakers in the ceiling. I have three Polk RTIA9 speakers, two Polk Signature Elite ES60 speakers and an SVS 200SB Pro Bass. The system sounded very good when I processed my Hi-Res music from Quboz streaming service. I purchased the Dac Magic 200 because it has the Twin ESS Sabre Reference ES 9028Q2M DAC chips versus the Wolfson Microelectronics 8742 24-bit digital-to-analog converter, in the Dac Magic 100. There is a major difference in the chips. The Twin ESS Sabre Reference ES 9028Q2M DAC chips run in dual mono configuration, meaning one handles the left channel and one handles the right channel. This allows the chip to independently process the incoming audio streams. The Wolfson Microelectronics 8742 24-bit digital-to-analog converter chip does not process left and right. The sound quality, acoustics, wow & flutter, tremble & bass are in full spectrum throughout my entire speaker system, like an orchestra. I never heard or felt this sound quality with the Dac Magic 100. Plus, the Dac Magic 200 has adjustable volume controls, three separate filter controls and it can process Hi-Res file up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and 64x and ultra-high-resolution DSD audio. If you can afford the extra $300, it the best investment you will make to your sound system in years.

Thomás from Seattle, WA on 3/8/2022
This DAC sounds wonderful. I am using it with Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro headphones, and the depth and detail is awesome. The (digital) volume control must have 32-bit precision because it sounds great throughout the entire range. The knob response is calibrated so that you can be very precise at lower volumes. I'd say it's better even than most analogue volume controls. The digital filter selections have very subtle differences, but I have settled on "Slow" for now, as it seems a bit brighter and more to my taste. This is a very much improved and different device from the previous DacMagic. I bought and returned one of those, as I did not think it sounded that great. In contrast, I am considering getting another one of these.

I purchased a Cambridge DacMagic 200M about two months ago. While it consistently elevates the audio from the music apps on my iPad, the best demonstration of the 200's capability and quality is when I play a Tidal playlist (such as 'Produced by Norman Granz') where the tracks vary in their degree of high resolution and MQA encoding. The Granz list is derived from a mid-to-late 20th-century jazz catalog with inconsistent audio quality and remastering. You can hear the difference in MQA/non-MQA recordings and CD through higher resolution options as tunes pass through the Cambridge DacMagic 200. Simply put, the 200's soundstage, ability to discern individual instruments, and overall audio quality are superior compared to the other DACs I tested in my AV system. The Cambridge DACMagic 200 is small, light, and easy to use.
Pros: Audio quality, small size, multipurpose utility.
Cons: No remote control.

Cambridge DACMagic 200
Crutchfield customer from Twain Harte, CA on 3/3/2022
I bought the DacMagic200 to evaluate the benefits of lossless/high resolution Apple Music with headphones. Unfortunately, whatever bit depth and sample rate it was sent, the DAC only illuminated the 16/44 LED, which didn't seem right to me, so I called Crutchfield technical support a couple of times and talked to two different techs. Neither tech found anything wrong with my setup or procedures, but neither new for sure whether the DAC was even supposed to be compatible with Apple Music and referred me to Cambridge US technical support. Called Cambridge support many times over several weeks and never got a human to answer or return my calls, so I returned the DAC to Crutchfield. Otherwise, the DAC/amp seemed to work well. The absence of RCA input and the choice of a wall-wort power supply were the only other negatives that I encountered. Whenever I called Crutchfield, I was always quickly connected to TS although they didn't have the product knowledge required to answer my questions or resolve the problem.
Pros: Good return policy.
Cons: Tech support lacks product knowledge. No back up support from Cambridge.

Does A Great Job If You Know What You Need
GERALD from TUKWILA on 1/11/2022
This purchase was months in the making. I had been improving my stereo system by first replacing the amplifier with a Denon PMA 600ne and then the speakers with a pair of Klipsch RP-280F. I rearranged the listening area so that the speakers were no longer near the walls and evenly spaced apart and the correct distance to me. After all that, I still felt the sound stage was still somewhat 2 dimensional. After reading some opinions online and talking to Bo at Crutchfield, I decided to try the DacMagic 200M. I feel that two areas that keep the Denon at it's amazing price point is the omission of a USB input and a high end DAC chip (The unit uses a Burr Brown PCM 1795). When the unit showed up, I plugged it in and was very happy with the results. The unit really helped clean up the sound of my system and improved the soundstage. I didn't realize how noisy my computer sound card was until I bypassed it using the USB cable into the DacMagic. It is definitely a solid unit that has a lot of options for the money. Thanks Bo at Crutchfield for all your help.

Lovely build quality, great audio quality DAC/amplifier
Stephen from Euless, TX on 1/11/2022
Very nice DAC and headphone amplifier that does exactly what I wanted. Connected to a Windows 10 machine via USB-C and the audio driver quality changed to 384k (from the default 44k) which allows the DAC to perform at almost the maximum quality available (768k). Excellent build quality. Truly an outstanding piece of equipment and it supports multiple inputs including USB (you will need a USB-B connector cable to whatever your other end is) as well as bluetooth. I also used a USB-B to Apple Lightning cable to connect to an iPhone 12 - it only achieved 44k so wasn't as "optimal" as the Windows connected source. Funny story. I connected aforementioned phone to the DAC with bluetooth - and it was painful with lagging/jittery sound. Turns out that in the bag with the power supply where the different plug options are is a nice little bluetooth antennae that I had omitted to connect in my enthusiasm to get it operational. So, don't forget to attach that.
Pros: Build quality Audio quality Connection options Value for money
Cons: None I can think of.

Was looking to upgrade my digital (vinyl is my main source) and the Cambridge 200M appeared to offer what I wanted for a reasonable price. Great connectivity and ease of use. The sound is a major upgrade to my Micromega DAC. Open, transparent, liquid with excellent bass. Have not tried the USB input but would love to hear this play Tidal Masters with MQA, as this can do MQA processing. I suspect this would another leap in sound quality over the Bluetooth and optical. Using this with an Atma-Sphere MP3 pre and S30 OTL amp and the 200M doesn't sound out of place with high end equipment. Would definitely buy the nicest interconnect cable you can afford as the 200M will let you hear the difference. Is there better? Sure, but I think you would have to spend at least double to get something noticeably better. Very pleased with my purchase. Also, great communication and fast shipping, typical for Crutchfield.
Pros: Ease of use and setup Great sound and connectivity Great value for what you get in sound quality and connectivity.

Replaced an Audio Engine D1 DAC and couldn't be happier (not like the AE was a bad unit but this thing is in a totally different class!). I'm not an audiophile but appreciate great sounding/loud music and this DAC really delivers on that. The biggest difference I notice compared to the D1 or BT direct is much fuller bass...the AE S8 sub really comes to life and can feel it now! My set-up: iPad Pro 11 --> DAC Magic 200M --> Audio Engine A5+/S* sub
Pros: Overall sound, bass and love the mini-component form factor!
Cons: As others have noted...no markings on the volume control is annoying but seems the standard with DACs. Plus, a remote would have been a nice touch like the quality aluminum one that AE provides.

Headphone only DAC
Crutchfield customer from Paso Robles, CA on 8/24/2021
This is a headphone-only dac because it will not process lower sample rates coming from common sources like the newer smart TVs. My $5000 Samsung 75 inch digital audio out from its one connect breakout box clearly had a low sample output tate because my Cambridge DAC had no sound output as input to my AVR. This discovery occurred after I was troubleshooting and was about to call Cambridge tech support, but found this "design limitation" on their FAQ. Sadly only a few ultra high end smart TVs may have 96Khz+ sampling rates on their digital PCM out, but its rare if they include this spec on their flyer. Another concern was the fixed vs. Variable output switching, their is no special button or LED indicator for this, you just hope you got it right. Fixed for high sample digital input, Variable for headphones.

Good, Not Great
Greg from Sterling, VA on 7/26/2021
I purchased the DACMAGIC 200M, primarily for MQA support using Tidal. I am using a pair of iLoud MTM Powered Studio Monitors in a desktop computer system. The DACMAGIC provides a lot of connection flexibility, features and everything works as described. CONS: The DAC, while clean, is a bit flat and lifeless to my ear, even when playing MQA tracks. In contrast, my 4-year-old Chord Mojo Headphone/DAC, similarly priced but lacking MQA and features, sounds fuller, with a much better midrange and airy top end. Also, for those of us with older eyes, be aware that the lettering on the DACMAGIC 200M is tiny and the contrast against the silver aluminum case is slight, making it very hard to see. I wish a black case w/ white lettering were an option.
Pros: Great input/output flexibility Lots of features
Cons: DAC is just average Lettering is tiny and hard to see Volume control level is not delineated

Cambridge DAC Magic 200, a Winner to My Ears
Crutchfield customer from Dennison, OH on 7/18/2021
I upgraded from the DAC that was built into my reciever, Outlaw Audio RR2160.The sound quality is very neutral, balanced and clear, a major upgrade to the system. Then there is the MQA 2nd unfold that makes a world of difference, as the stock DAC did not do the 2nd unfold. Secondly, the optical must be way better too. The audio for the TV is now top notch. Both TV and music now have a definite soudstage that is amazing. The factory DAC before, rarely had soundstage presence. The sales team were very knowledgeable in pointing me in the direction for a good match for my system. I highly recommend the DAC and Crutchfield Audio!
Pros: Neutral balanced clear sound. Plethora of hookups. Professionally packed for shipment.
Cons: If I have to have a con, the only thing that comes to mind, is the volume knob. Rotation seems a bit tight. Not really an issue, as I rarely use headphones and it is always all the way up for normal listening.

A Classic
Crutchfield customer from San Antonio, TX on 6/30/2021
I've always had a soft spot for Cambridge Audio; the British have a style of clean, refined sound that I love. This unit may not be the newest kid on the block, but I personally like to wait and let others post reviews of a piece of equipment to give me a more detailed picture of real-world performance, and the comments I read gave me confidence that this was right for me. At the moment, I use it to drive High-res files from my laptop via an AudioQuest Cinnamon cable (which I love -- ten feet long and you can't tell it's there) to a Quad Era-1 headset. The signal and output are so clean that on one hand, it shows the shortcomings of my lower-density recordings, but on the other hand gives me pure bliss listening to Tom Waits "Mule Variations" in MQA or contemporary classical pieces. This one punches out of its weight class.

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M
Crutchfield customer from Tyler, TX on 6/23/2021
I am using this unit connected via USB to a desktop computer running Tidal, Spotify, and Foobar2000. I run both AKG K712 Pro and Tascam TH-07 headphones. The AKG phones sound superb and they need a lot of power. The Tascam units are easier to drive. Try the latest track from Chlara, "People are People". The sound is amazing in MQA!! My CDs sound really nice in Foobar as well. This retrieves a lot more detail than the cheap desktop DAC/amp it replaced.
Pros: Great sound, MQA, clarity, enough power to drive power hungry headphones.
Cons: No equalizer software included. The Tascam headphones have a little more bass than I like, it would be nice to be able to trim that down, as well as a peak at ~8k Htz.

Fantastic Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M digital audio converter
Crutchfield customer from Amarillo, TX on 5/24/2021
I used an old Audio Alchemy DAC-In-The Box with a Marantz CD player (and then with a PS3 for CDs and blu-rays) for over 20 years. Wasn't sure if this DAC from Cambridge Audio would be that much better at a much higher price. It definitely was a whole lot better than I could have imagined - worth every penny! I'm using this DAC with a brand-new Audiolab 6000CDT (another fantastic piece of equipment from Crutchfield), an old Denon DRA-395 receiver, two new AudioSource Amp100VS amps (also from Crutchfield) and a pair of Vandersteen 2ce's from the '90s. I'm hearing all sorts of details in music that I never heard before. Has a deep soundstage with lots of instrumental clarity (almost a shocking amount of clarity all-the-way-around). One of the best audio equipment purchases I've made in my life. Plus, the support staff at Crutchfield were great, very knowledgeable professionals. Highly recommended equipment from a great company.

Fantastic DAC
Dennis from Middlebury, VT on 5/18/2021
I have a CXA81. You'd think the internal DAC, high quality no doubt, could not be discernibly improved upon. Wrong. This unit provides depth and warmth missing from the steely internal DAC. It delivers on the MQA promise as well, which the internal DAC doesn't support. There's also no comparison on stereo separation - smooth and balanced. The best $ I've ever spent. If you do a lot of streaming and connect directly to a laptop you will not be disappointed. This also serves as a beauty of a headphone amp. So if you're listening at your desk you can plug right in and delight at the quality of this dac.
Pros: Clarity, separation, depth, warmth, doubles as headphone amp.
Cons: Nitpicking-no screen or remote.

Good but not reliable
Crutchfield customer from Houston, TX on 5/15/2021
Good sounding, nice looking, overall solid choice for a DAC in this price range. But its amp is too weak to drive. I have problems with my unit, when it plays MQA file I can't change to the filter I want, always in Short Delay filter, also usually the audio is muted 1 side (L or R) when playing music, I have to restart it and it sounds normally. I think I'm going to return it, it's good but not reliable.

Opens up the sound compared to laptop soundcard
Crutchfield customer from Ypsilanti, MI on 5/14/2021
This DAC does make a difference in sound for me. It simply opens up the music to a more detailed, more laid back experience. Gets you closer to that "vynil" experience. I mainly use it with tidal. It works great. Make sure the Tidal software has full access to the audio device and then simply slide the passthrough MQA button for the final unfold. Using it with my studio headphones yields the highest quality sound I've experienced. I have 26 ohm Austrian Audio headphones and they sound crystal clear. I wasn't impressed by the packaging quality...the dac box was put in another box with only a bunch of styrofoam popcorn bits thrown on top of it. Not the most secure considering how it gets thrown in the shipping process but it arrived safely and works fine.
Pros: Higher quality analog sound

Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M

I bought the Dac Magic 200 to replace my old external dac after I acquired my Cambridge cxc v2 disc transport. While the cxc v2 was vastly superior to my original CD player in level of detail, the overall presentation was rather one dimensional using the old dac. Once I connected the Dac Magic 200 into the system, I immediately noticed a larger and better defined soundstage, as well as even more detail and resolution. Vocals especially, had more presence and intimacy. This is a great combination.

Versatile unit with balanced outputs. Very good black background. DAC delivers nice sound that is not to sharp compared to other delta-sigma units. Very pleased overall. Excellent value considering quality of sound and features at this price. It would have been very nice to get a decent analog pot instead of digital attenuation and a line in so it could function as an nice "pre-amp", even if it was passive, for another $50. Overall great unit. Highly recommended.

Any issues are probably mine
Crutchfield customer from San Carlos, CA on 5/12/2021
I'm not an ideal use case, as I currently have this connected to an old Denon home theater receiver and some really awful Klipsch surrounds and a pretty good Velodyne sub. To make things odder, I'm alternating between feeding this baby with a Sonos Port and a Bluesound Node 2i. I do think the sound is fantastic with the Node 2i, but can't honestly tell if it's measurably better than what the DAC in the Bluesound provides. For me, MQA is a really good 'thing,' but so are the highest grade streams Qobuz provides (!). I veer toward classical, but in listening to some choice indie and older gramps rock from the 70s (I'm 59...easy now!), for a few minutes I fall into a bliss that is well worth the price. But I occasionally run into a few stutters. The auto shut-off has not worked for me as delivered. And the lack of a remote is definitely annoying. As such, I'm considering relegating this to my home office, buying two pimped out monitors, and engaging in my more serious listening sessions back there, particularly with a pair of yet-to-be-purchased higher end headphones. To boot, my current Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT headphones, connected to the DacMagic 200M, sound more magical than I have ever heard them. I don't regret the purchase at all. But for me, I question if it is redundant, given my existing investment in Bluesound. P.S. I'm slowly moving off Sonos, given the guaranteed continuing obsolescence of the miscellaneous speakers I have in my kitchen.

Has some quirks
Crutchfield customer from Apple Valley, MN on 5/3/2021
This is a solid performer, works as advertised. My caveat is that you should not be driven to MQA at the expense of non MQA recordings. Also, MQA thru this is not as good as my Musical Fidelity 6sR which is not MQA, but costs 4x the cost of the 200M. Also the 200M really needs a remote. If you connect it via Toslink it will not go into standby. If you get it into standby it will not restart w/o pushing the power button.
Pros: Worth the $ Decent sound
Cons: Needs a remote Quirky operation

Great DAC
Crutchfield customer from Broad Run, VA on 5/1/2021
Bought this DAC to upgrade/replace my DAC Magic Plus and could not be happier. Addition of MQA support was big upgrade for Tidal users and whole new listening experience if you have not tried it. For critical listening I use the 200M with an older pair of Sennheiser HD700 headphones. Clarity and soundstage is amazing on MQA Master recordings and was almost like hearing my favorites again for the first time. 200M has a heck of a headphone amp so watch the listening volume, easy to overdo it if UR not careful.
Pros: Great clarity and soundstage Supports MQA HiFi and Master files Headphone amp will power some serious headphones
Cons: None discovered

Punches way above its price
Roman from Irvington, NY on 4/30/2021
At this price level, not sure if this DACMagic can be beat. My other DAC is an excellent Denafrips Ares II which costs $850 and I believe the DACMagic sounds just as good as the Ares. But where it has the Ares totally beat is the soundstage. It truly is expansive. On my desktop system, I actually had to set the speakers a little closer to focus the sound a bit. Otherwise, both DACMagic and Denafrips sound more analog and less digital. If you like the sound of vinyl, this is it.
Pros:
Cons: To me, MQA doesn't sound as good here as a non-MQA hi-res audio. Too digitized, almost too detailed and harsh. Not melodic at all. This may be a more general comment and not specific to DACMagic. Some may prefer MQA sound.

Highly Capable and Musical DAC
Mark from Snohomish, WA on 4/24/2021
This is the first audio product from the UK that I've purchased. Like others below, I'm using this to replace an older DAC/headphone amp - a TEAC UD-301. I was using the TEAC for all my HD files/streaming, including 2.8 / 5.6 DSD; however, it didn't support MQA, for which I needed a separate device. I began looking for a replacement DAC/headphone amp and found the 200M to be a complete package: HD Audio including DSD, MQA; plus, it is also Roon Ready. I've been using the 200M for several days now and am really enjoying it. Works great with Tidal, Roon and J River MC. Drives my Grado RS1e's beautifully. Though there appear to be a fair number of MQA nay-sayers out there, I have to say, I am finding a lot of really great-sounding MQA albums. As much as I liked my TEAC, I like the 200M even better. Terrific combination of features and great audio performance.
Pros: Ideal desk-top size. Well made. Impressively musical performance, both DAC and headphone amp.
Cons: Balanced output limited to line-level (XLR) outputs only - no balanced output for headphones.

stephen from Hollywood, FL on 4/21/2021
This DAC is simply awesome! The construction is top notch and the sound is incredible. I have never heard Tidal Masters MQA until this week. I was cautiously optimistic, well, It's the real deal! The openness, spaciousness and detail is truly amazing. I'm hearing details and nuances in songs - I had never heard after 40 years of listening. This is my 2nd DAC, I was using an Audeze Deckard for the last 2 years. While it is very, very good, the DacMagic 200M opens a new realm of pure listening bliss. Kudos to Cambridge Audio for developing such an awesome and affordable DAC with full MQA decoding. Simply awesome.
Pros: Build Quality MQA Studio Incredible open & detailed sound Smooth Bass Refined Mids
Cons: Volume - no level indicator

Amazing MQA DAC!
Crutchfield customer from Peru, IL on 3/28/2021
Extremely clean sounding with a very detailed sound stage. Filter switching is subtle, but a nice feature and majority of my listening is through either my tablet to DAC (Tidal Hifi sample rate 192) or from my laptop (Tidal Master MQA). Personally I love this DAC! The sound, range of features, sample output indicator lighting and price point are an incredible packaged together. I haven't done any headphone listening, but have heard good things from other reviews. My listening current set up: DACMagic 200 (Balanced XLR to amp) Azur 851a Integrated Amp KEFLS50 Meta Speakers KEF Kube 12b Tablet/laptop USB Audio What I'm looking to buy next is Room Nucleus (MQA unfolding) and Azure 851n to to then eliminate both my tablet and laptop while still being able to listen to MQA tracks through Tidal. Overall extremely please with this DAC.
Pros: MQA $500 Sample rate indicator

Pretty good DAC
Randy from Fallbrook, CA on 3/17/2021
I think it's a very good DAC for the price. Music playback is very smooth and I couldn't detect any real colorization. I did notice in comparison to two other DAC's that I have (Project S2 and Schiit Gumby) that it shows more of the nuances of the recordings. Meaning good recordings sound excellent while poorer recordings sound worse. The DAC reveals everything in the way it was recorded. Now this is a non-scientific observation, just how it sounds to my ears. Overall, the DAC looks and works great. My only real complaints are it would be nice to have a remote and some sort of volume setting indicator. I use mine as a preamp and the initial setting of the volume is a guessing game. The remote would be nice to fine tune but once set I don't mess with the volume much. It's a pretty classy looking DAC, well-built and I recommend it for those looking for a DAC in this price range.
Pros: well-built, classy looks, accurate, no colorization, good price
Cons: lack of remote, no volume indicator

good but
Crutchfield customer from Canton, NY on 3/11/2021
would like to give this a good rating but have not been able to figure out a very annoying issue, purchased in part for the mqa unfolding for use with Tidal. Unfortunately, the dac can't manage to keep up with sample rate and MQA status changes and this results in a confounding stutter at the start of every track in a placelist when rate changes occur and the LEDs start blinking and trying to arrive at the correct bit depth and MQA status. This is not acceptable in a high dollar piece of gear designed to basically perform one function.

Cons: as noted
