CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 400 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: >75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 2Ω: 800 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts)
    • 1Ω: 1200 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts)

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Gain: The rotary gain control is labeled 0 to 11, equivalent to 150mV-4V line level or 450mV-12V speaker level.

Infra-Sonic: The variable infrasonic filter (15-40 Hz, 12 dB/octave slope) is designed to prevent frequencies below the capability of the subwoofer from being amplified. This helps reduce distortion, and is particularly useful when powering subs in ported enclosures.

Frequency: The 12dB/octave low-pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover frequency is set with a rotary dial, continuously variable from 50-250 Hz.

Punch EQ: The Punch EQ bass boost circuit is adjustable from 0 (min) to +18 dB (max) and centered at 45 Hz.

Auto Turn-on Switch: When using speaker level inputs, this switch can be set to On and the amp will turn on when it senses an input signal (DC offset on the left input). When using the RCA inputs a remote turn-on wire must be connected.

Remote Level Control: A wired Remote Level Control is included, allowing you to remotely control the output level of the amplifier from the dash or center console. The remote has a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and a 16' cable.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.16" (2" including the mounting flanges)
  • Height: 0.92"
  • Depth: 1.55" (2.375" including knob and wiring)
Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground set-screw terminals will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Fuse: The amplifier does not have an on-board fuse. A 200-amp fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on set-screw terminal will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Speaker Terminals: The set-screw speaker terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

RCA Input: There is one pair of RCA input jacks. The balanced differential inputs are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Pass-Thru: A pair of nickel-plated RCA pass-thru jacks provides a convenient way to connect an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The signal from the inputs is passed directly to the RCA outputs.

Speaker Level Inputs: There is a port for the included speaker input harness. If speaker level inputs are used, nothing should be connected to the RCA jacks.

Q
I have already bought this amp. Will it be better with a 4 ohm or 2 ohm Rockford 15 inch p2?
emory  Mar 09, 2024
1 answer
A
The 15" Rockford Fosgate P2 subwoofers can handle a maximum of 400-watts RMS, Emory. You will need to use the P2D2-15 in the link below with the coils wired in series to show 4-ohms at the R2-1200X1 amplifier if you want to run a single 15" P2 subwoofer with your amp. This combo will get exactly 400-watts RMS from your amp and is not overpowering your Rockford Fosgate 15" subwoofer! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_5751P2D215/Rockford-Fosgate-P2D2-15.html

Q
Would this amp work for 2 jl adio 10s wired for 2 ohms at a total of 800 rms?
josh  Feb 17, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Josh. Thank you for your question. If each sub is rated for 400 watts RMS, and wired to 2 ohms, this amp has the perfect 800 watts at 2 ohms.

Q
Is it worth it to send my1200 prime Rockford amp to get fixed?
jaime r  Feb 11, 2024
1 answer
A
This depends on the exact issue, Jaime. For me personally, I think a repair rather than replace attitude is always the best move but sometimes it can be a better value to simply replace if the repair cost outweighs the replacement cost. Determining the exact issue and contacting Rockford Fosgate about a potential repair are always good moves before purchasing a replacement, we can always get you a replacement if you need. I hope this helps!

Q
I have this amp pushing a SKAR EVL 12 at 1 ohm.. I feel like I'm not getting enough power... Any Ideas?
sully  Jun 06, 2023
2 answers
A
What I'm seeing is your 12"" SKAR EVL has an RMS of 1250W. I'm not familiar with the SKAR brand but I know Rockford Fosgate always pushes more wattage then what they advertise so the power should be there. I assume you have your speaker wire bridged at the amp and not just running on one channel. If you don't that's your issue. However if all your wiring is spot on I would try another brand speaker. I like my 12'' kicker compQ's for the price but it could definitely get way better. Hopefully this helps.
eric  Jun 11, 2023
A
You can make certain you have your dual 2-ohm sub wired to 1-ohm instead of 4-ohms, and check your gains. The amp is certainly spot on with the RMS power that the Skar sub asks for, so unless their subs are known to need power over the stated RMS, you really shouldn't be having an issue. The Rockford amps are certified to give the power they claim.

Q
I have this amp pushing 1 SKAR EVL-12 at 2500 watts at 1 ohm.. how should I wire the sub in the box and is this amp not enough power for this sub?
sully  Jun 06, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Paul, and thanks for your question. This amp puts out 1200 watts at 1 ohm. As far as wiring your sub goes, thats technical support. If you purchased the amp from Crutchfield, you will have the direct to tech support number on your shipping confirmation email. If you purchased this elsewhere, you can always try calling Rockford Fosgate, or Skar for the wiring help.

Q
Would this power 2 Rockford Fosgate R2D4-12 12" 1000w Dual 4 Ohm?
rich  Jul 13, 2022
1 answer
A
The R2D4s are 250 watt RMS subs. When running two, you could end at either 1-ohm or 4 ohm. If you were to run them at a 4-ohm final configuration, you would be sending the subs 400 watts RMS, which is within the recommended 70-100% of the RMS. This amp would be a decent match for those subs, but only when wired to a 4-ohm load.

Q
I want to run a single DVC Kicker Subwoofer with 2ohm Voice coils at 750RMS. If i wire this amp in series for a one Ohm impedance will this blow my speaker or does it just depends on how i tune the amp?
randy  Jan 18, 2022
3 answers
A
It depends on how you tune the amp but it could very easily blow your sub if you give it too much power I would try to find something with a little less power at a 1ohm load
jc  Jan 20, 2022
A
Depends on which kicker sub you have.. I would just use your ear to tell you when to stop turning it up.. you can tell..
randal  Jan 20, 2022
A
Hi, run the DVC 2 OHM sub in parallel to achieve a 1 OHM load. Adjust the amp gain to the appropriate level, being careful not to introduce clipping.

Q
In what terminals of the speaker should I connect my speaker T1D215 rockforfosgate and is at 1ohm. - + or - + should I do the middle terminals????.are the 2 channels same or just the middle is 1ohm??
juan  Sep 16, 2021
1 answer
A
The outputs are A+- and B+-, I do not think it matters if you do the center 2 or the outer 2. Either way will give you the 1ohm output. What does matter is how the sub itself is wired. + from amp to + on 1st voice coil and a jumper connecting both + voice coils. - from amp to the 2nd voice coil and a jumper from - to - on the sub. This will give you the 1 ohm that you desire. Use the lights on the amp for proper tuning so you do not put too much noise/distortion to the sub. As long as your sub box is adequate for the sub, you should be very please with this combination of amp/sub.

Q
I have an American bass 12' sub with a 200 ounce magnet 2400 watt woofer will this amp do the job this woofer is a beast an I need to get everything I can get out of it?
kenneth  Jul 05, 2021
2 answers
A
With a single sub, you can only wire it down to 2 ohms assuming that your sub is the XR 12 D4, 4 ohm dual voice coil. If that is the sun you have it is rated for 1200 watts RMS, 2400 MAX. "800 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms" is the rating for this amp. Although, these amps are well known to push harder than what they are rated. Each comes with a tested "birth certificate ". On mine, at 2 ohms it was tested pushing 1004 watts. I have it pushing a RF P3 and it does great. Tuning this amp is so easy any amateur can do it. Has lights to tell you when the amp is detecting too much distortion and all that. To really answer your question though. You shouldn't have any problems pushing that sub close to it's full potential with this amp.
joshua  Jul 06, 2021
A
This is a great amp with a wide range of power but you need to know which ohm load you want run your woofer at but it put out a lot of power you will be impressed

I have two 12s p3 they hit hard with this amp. I like the amp so far.
demetrio  Jul 15, 2021
A
It will run it okay. My 1200 does 1486 watts at 1 ohm. To be fair though, that speaker could probably handle a 1500 without breaking a sweat. Just make sure whatever ano you use is tuned, so you don't blow it with distortion.
christopher  Jul 05, 2021
Q
Can this amp push two subs wired at 1 ohm 1200 watts each?
rahzi  Mar 01, 2021
1 answer
A
Mine pushes 1500 watts at 1 ohm. So you would be getting roughly 1500 out of 2400 max. Should be fine, but they could handle a bit more.

Wire them in parallel for 1 ohm load. Tune it so it doesn't distort when you have the volume up. Profit.

Yeah at 1ohm the output is 1200 watts of rms so it could easily power a 300 watt sub

Will this support a 1400 watt max 12 inch sub?
andrew  Dec 28, 2020
3 answers
A
Yes it should be just fine and more if you run it at 2ohms instead of 1 ohm. Anymore then that and you'll probably blow your subs because Rockford do a little over 1400 true rms and running it at 1ohm will just destroys your single sub
william cade  Dec 29, 2020

Yes, I matched mine with a 1500W RMS 12 inch sub. This amp is rated to push 1200W RMS of power.
