Expensive Mistake May-03-12
Reviewer: Brad from Allen, Texas
OK folks, I'm not going to write a book here because the features and functionality of this unit have been well covered already. What I am going to say that I cannot believe that anybody who actually purchased and installed this unit could ever rate it 5 stars with a straight face. The navi is so bad and so ugly that the very good sound, good blue tooth, and excellent i-pod interface don't even come close to making it worth the money. And no, despite what others have said, it does not work ANYTHING like a modern Garmin unit. In fact, I've gone back to using my windshield mounted Garmin for navi and use this unit only as a (very expensive) radio and i-pod player. The resolution is horrible, level of detail is horrible (it often doesn't even display the name of street you're driving on let alone the ones you're approaching), no speed display on the main screen, and no heading/compass information on the main screen so you can't even use bearing info to re-orient yourself if you get lost. The main screen does display a North arrow which is nearly worthless. Route calculation is slow and often faulty. All of the negative comments in regards to the navi are spot on. Wish I could get my money back.....

April-22-12
Reviewer: Allan from Saint Cloud, Florida
I've done alot of research before making this purchase because of the price, I stayed with Alpine because of the excellent past expierance with the product. The only thing that was holding me back was the stupid safety emerg. & foot brake operation to make changes in park mode only, did some home work & found a simple $20. device to get around that found on the web, the unit workes great & fully enjoy all the different operations that it has to offer. I have to say this be careful on reading cust. reviews, everybody has there own appinion on what they concider good & bad, I'm still learning all it has to offer it does take some time and remindes me of any computer devises you just have to get in there & use it to get familiar with the system, GPS is simple & works like my Garmin & is not slow like i read in the reviews, love my i-pod operation, and really enjoy my bluetooth even with my cheap phone and havent mis any calls also all my callers remarked how good it sounds talking to me. The install took about half a day because of the type of vehicle and adding a KTP-445 amp to harness & all the mods, strongly suggest reading the instructions & calling tech support with any questions to make a good install, oh ya tech support is alsome! Very friendly & supportive and has your answers. Its been only a month into it and had no problems, i now enjoy taking trips with my car & look forward to windshield time. Note, if you are looking for a simple radio this is not for you

Worst navigation ever March-18-12
Reviewer: back to nuvi from connecticut
The worst navigation I have ever seen.  When I was in Manhattan, within 15 blocks of my destination,  the unit told me to continue past the destination, leave Manhattan via the queens-midtown tunnel, and return to manhattan via the triborough bridge.  On another route, I am told to enter route 9 at exit 5.  If I take a local shortcut and enter route 9 at exit 6 (1 exit north of exit 5), the nav unit then tells me to get on route 9 at exit 6, go south to exit 5, re-enter the highway at exit 5, and return north, back through exit 6.  This is all after paying for the map and software update.

Bad Nav, bad iPhone interface, inconsistent March-17-12
Reviewer: JB from Springfield, NJ
Terrible, terrible unit. I've been an Alpine fan for ages.....no more. Pairing with my phone is hit and miss, Pandora functionality isn't ready for prime time and the Nav system is the absolute worst I've seen. The receiver/amp is good, but that's to be expected for the price of this unit. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!

Gets worse by the day! I'm growing to hate this t March-14-12
Reviewer: mandingo from Atlnta
I could tolerate the nav for a while now I just hate this unit.  And since Kenwood's new Excelon line with its much speedier DNX9990 I'm going to chalk this up to an expensive mistake.  I listen to streamed audio online (I live in ATL but grew up on BOS so I love to stream WEEI for their sports talk so I don't have to listen to the idiotic rants of Tech vs Dogs fans) but EVERY time I want to I have to unplug my Touch and plug in my iPhone.  Every time.  Other audio functions are just fine and the sound is excellent.  BUT!!! the navi is the absolute dumps.  It's choppy as it scrolls, not smooth.  Street names that are right in front of you on the road may or may not appear on the navi.  Once you find a destination, it calculates it and again you have to hit the screen to start navigation.  And every single time you want to switch something out and go back to a new destination you get that warning.  Way too many prompts to do simple things.  And that preposterous emergency brake down, foot brake down, emergency brake up...YIKES!!!!!  Enough already.  Wanted to love it.  Grown to hate it.  Kenwood Excelon 9990HD here I come.
