Love Alpine audio but Alpine GPS stinks! |

I purchased the M300 to replace my Blackbird II that I was using with my IVA-W205 in dash unit. Alpine decided to not update the maps on the Blackbird II so if I wanted current maps I had to make a switch.
The M300 integrates into my W205 just like the Blackbird did and it works pretty well. The maps are much better than that of the Blackbird and it's nice to hear the names of the streets so there was some improvement. On the other hand I gave up a lot to make the switch. No traffic updates, no bluetooth connection and the display just isn't as nice. As has been mentioned before the voice on this thing is pretty bad, actually I would have expected this kind of text to speech 5 years ago but not now. Add to the bad voice the fact that I have had numerous times where the voice is just plain wrong and different then what the screen is telling me. It's kind of annoying when the voice says left turn and the screen says right turn.
I like the fact that I don't have something stuck to my window but as far as a GPS goes this thing is pretty bad. My wife uses a Garmin Nuvi that is 3 years old and it's by far the superior unit. If you have to have a GPS that will integrate with your Alpine head unit this will work but if you want a good GPS this ain't it.

While there are definitely some things Alpine can improve upon, such as availability and timeliness of updates, this unit is a good deal for the money. You don't have something hanging off of your dash or suctioned to the windshield. I have found the maps to be very comprehensive although slightly outdated. The voice is comical, but understandable. The turn by turn is extremely accurate and the update speed when recalculating routes is adequate. Best of all is the ease of use and seamless integration into a compatible Alpine head unit. Its a good buy when considering the alternatives and would be even more so if the manufacturer and software provider would step up their games! Overall an excellent unit.

I am not the least bit impressed with this unit. I never thought I would regret replacing a Blackbird PMD-B100T with this POS. But I do regret it.
As previous review mentioned, the Voice recognition is TERRIBLE. stutters, pitch changes in voice in mid sentence, slow to respond, your head unit remote control will not work for NAV only the touch screen. poor display. Display quality not at all as advertized.
Im embarrassed to operate this thing in front of friends AND family. Its comical. We laugh out loud evey time directions are muttered by this thing.
you have been warned.

I love it! its better than having a suction cup on the window. maps are very detail and easy to use and set up. Alpine at its best.
