I am very pleased with the results of my installation. The included instructions were a bit vague. I relied mostly on vehicle-specific instructions I found on my own. It took me a whole day to install, but i do work slow. At first it sounded horrible, but after some recalibration, the sound is amazing! So don't rip it out in frustration after the first sound test, you will probably have to recalibrate it 2 or 3 times to get it perfect. Crutchfieeld, of course, is great! Awesome support.

Amazing Part 1 |

Attempting to improve the sound in a Prius and keep the dash stock is a true headache and a real necessity. The stock head unit is both unique in shape and applies some vicious and unwelcome EQ to anything remotely musical and the speakers are insanely bad. In short the entire system straight out of the bubble wrap is terrible. The structure of the car is very light weight with a lot of glass, which gives the car the sonic properties of a beer can (maybe worse).
I initially installed new speakers, front and rear, matched 6.5 components, an Alpine amp from my previous ride and a JL Audio CleanSweep. For a car with a bit more mass and rigidity this probably would have been great but the Prius loves mid bass and no amount of deadening in the doors could fix the problem which would manifest itself as a brain melting thrummmmmm during, say, the Beatles, Come Together. I wanted to come together but my ears were falling apart.
Since the CleanSweep is a Crutchfield Signature product and considering the fact that I was really hating my car, I returned the CleaSweep and got the PXE-H660. The reasoning behind the choice was the microphone based setup one the Alpine unit. I figured it would notice the killer thrummmmmm and dial that freq range back a bit.

With a Ford Escape 2010, using MS SYNC and Nav. I managed to get great sound from the H660 IMPRINT. This is the first OEM head unit combo that I have kept because it works so well. I took the front output only from the SYNC and the Alpine did the rest (full range out...The H660 will tell you if your not). None of the H650 giltches were there that I read about. The unit work flawlessly. A couple tips: 1. Watch the phase coming out of the OEM radio like a hawk or the unit will sound really strange after calibration. 2. With the SYNC while on the phone the unit goes to SLEEP because of lack of signal. You can correct this by running switched 12v to the Blue/White wire on the H660. Overall Calibration took about 10 min once the wiring is in place. I have not yet used the software to calibrate but the Alpine tech told me you have a few more opitions in terms of response curves.....Overall a excellent unit so far....nice 4V output for plently of gain...no noise as of yet....
