very happy with this camera...bought it to replace another Canon (710 IS) which was also good quality but few years old...used the new camera on recent vacation and very pleased with shoot quality indoors, at beach, at night, kid's activities...the 10x zoom is big key to it's quality

I purchased this camera as a replacement for my older generation digital SLR -- I needed something much more compact and wanted a technology upgrade as well, all without a major financial invesment. This camera is consistent with Canon's great picture quality and is indeed compact and convenient. The only downside is responsiveness -- I do miss shots of my moving-target little ones because the speed is not what I'd like it to be.

This is an awesome camera. I don't think you will find a better camera for the price. The 10x zoom is actually a 10 plus a 23 plus a 40 zoom. Even after taking the shot you can zoom in on the taken shot a couple of more times. What sets this camera apart from others with a higher power zoom, is the automatic image stabilizer feature. The video feature is great. Picks up sound very well. It comes with to small of an image card. I bought an 8gb card when I ordered the camera. Good idea. Later, I bought an additional 16gb card to carry with me specifically for videos. Switching resolutions between photos to view on camera or computer versus those you intend to print or look at on a very large screen is quick and easy. The negatives are, playback video sound through camera is to soft even at high volume setting. Minor point as the sound is great through other media. No viewfinder. In bright sunlight, the image selection can be difficult on the LCD screen, especially when you are at or near maximum zoom. I plan to buy a tripod to help eliminate my shaky hand visibility problem.
