10-megapixel digital camera with 10X optical zoom

Stock Status: Discontinued

Product Code: 280SX120B

Description Features Crutchfield Hands-on Research

The compact Canon SX120 IS offers plenty of powerful and convenient features. Easily compose and review photos on the bright LCD screen. You'll notice rich detail and clarity in your pictures, thanks to 10-megapixel recording. Impressive 10X optical zoom lets you zero in on a distant mountain peak or on a cottage across the lake. And image stabilization helps keep your shot steady, even if your hand shakes as the shutter goes off.

This camera's Smart Auto mode makes life simple when you want to just "point and shoot." But for more creative control, you can use manual settings to capture one-of-a-kind photos. Face detection focuses on the people in your frame and adjusts exposure to suit your shooting environment. You can even prompt the camera to track one subject in particular and refocus on that person as she moves around the scene. And take clear pictures at sporting events with motion detection technology — the camera evaluates how fast the athletes are moving and sets sensitivity for blur-free results.

Canon includes a 128-megabyte memory card that holds about 24 photos at top resolution — add a higher-capacity SD™ card for more picture storage.

Excellent camera April-17-10
Reviewer: Dr Dave from Portland, CT
very happy with this camera...bought it to replace another Canon (710 IS) which was also good quality but few years old...used the new camera on recent vacation and very pleased with shoot quality indoors, at beach, at night, kid's activities...the 10x zoom is big key to it's quality

Great value, very good performance February-07-10
Reviewer: Kimberley from Seattle, WA
I purchased this camera as a replacement for my older generation digital SLR -- I needed something much more compact and wanted a technology upgrade as well, all without a major financial invesment.  This camera is consistent with Canon's great picture quality and is indeed compact and convenient.  The only downside is responsiveness -- I do miss shots of my moving-target little ones because the speed is not what I'd like it to be.

My review of the Canon Powershot SX120 October-15-09
Reviewer: Charles from San Marcos, California
This is an awesome camera. I don't think you will find a better camera for the price. The 10x zoom is actually a 10 plus a 23 plus a 40 zoom. Even after taking the shot you can zoom in on the taken shot a couple of more times. What sets this camera apart from others with a higher power zoom, is the automatic image stabilizer feature. The video feature is great. Picks up sound very well. It comes with to small of an image card. I bought an 8gb card when I ordered the camera. Good idea. Later, I bought an additional 16gb card to carry with me specifically for videos. Switching resolutions between photos to view on camera or computer versus those you intend to print or look at on a very large screen is quick and easy. The negatives are, playback video sound through camera is to soft even at high volume setting. Minor point as the sound is great through other media. No viewfinder. In bright sunlight, the image selection can be difficult on the LCD screen, especially when you are at or near maximum zoom. I plan to buy a tripod to help eliminate my shaky hand visibility problem.
