5 star sub, 2 star enclosure... |

JL manufactures the best subs on the market, hands-down. 15 years of personal usage has proven that JL, as a company, is as excellent as their product through quality, service and warranties.
The 12W7 Pro Wedge (paired with an HD 750/1) was chosen over a 10W7 for the back of a 04 Jeep LJ as I wanted something that I would hear when the top is off (and lacked the tools to build custom), to be brief, it works but could be better.
This loaded enclosure produces solid sub-sound range. The complaint... it lacks the hitting power that is generated with the JL recommended enclosures (odd since JL makes the box), comparatively, this sealed enclosure is larger than the JL spec ported enclosure and way bigger than the suggested sealed enclosure (.535 cu.ft.); thus, the expanded range and lack of hitting power.
I would recommend to anyone whose application is rear-firing/Hatchback and genre of choice is Rap or hard dance/trance, otherwise, buy the sub and build your box.

this sub is amazing. I Have a Boston SPG555 also sealed, and the difference between these 2 subs is pretty wild. Both excellent, but i give the edge to the W7. Its much more accurate. Maybe because its round instead of oval. But i hear bass hits that were almost missing before.
This is a very versatile sub. It hit all bass notes with accuracy, and has a very full, rich and deep sound. Whereas the SPG555 was a bit boomy, even sealed.
i have it on a JL 500/1, and its jammin like crazy. I have a 1000/1 waiting for when i get a new car and upgrade the electrical, because my current car cant handle it.
Another thing is , mind the specs of the enclosure. Its tall, has a large base, and the thing is HEAVY. you would be smart to ask for help lifting it.
Other than that, i'm going to break it in for about 25 hours just to be safe.
You wont be disappointed.
P.S.
i had a temporary loss of sanity and tried to save some money originally by buying one from one of the popular "grey market" places. I canceled pretty quick. When you spend this kind of money, do it the right way and buy from a reputable place. I've been buying from crutchfield for so many years. I havent bought EVERYTHING from them, but some stuff (like this) is a no brainer.

Well to start out... This is my sixth(not joking) subwoofer setup Ive had in the last 6 months in my quest for satisfactory bass in my truck. Starting from a small 8inch JL W3 to 2 Alpine type E's, to 1 Alpine type R, to dual kicker L5's, to a Boston SPG 555. All of my setups were properly powered by various Alpine V12 class amplifiers. I can say Ive found a variety of types of bass. The last setup I had was the Boston and I will say that actually did sound a little better SQ wise compared to this W7 setup. However that sub just could not handle the level of volume I like to listen to as my stereo has only two volume levels: off, and loud as $#!%. So naturally this is an important trait for me and I will definetly say this sub can handle some abuse. Most importantly however (otherwise I would have kept the kickers) is the level of clarity this sub performs at when given lots of volume. Even at High volume it remains very deep, forceful and accurate. I listen to rap, metal, and electronic and it handles all of them well without adjusted tuning. I have been able to make it distort but like I said I like it loud. But even then it sounded way better then anything else Ive heard at that volume. It is a little pricey, and like I said the boston even sounded a little better, but if you like it loud and clear then I really dont know what else even compares. Well worth the money.

I bought this in hope of getting a little more punch out of my low end but I was a bit disappointed with the kick-drum performance of this set up. Overall, this is a very musical sub, and it will get low, but a bit too low for my liking. I don't want to say it sounded boomy but at the same time I felt the impact just wasn't there and it sounded a bit "loose". Surprising to me, actually, since this driver is in a sealed enclosure. My guess is, this enclosure is a bit bigger than the what they actually recommend as optimal, about 1.8 - 2 cu ft compared to 1.25 recommended. So I would think this woofer would be tighter in a 1.25 cu ft enclosure and I have to think this enclosure is a bit of a hybrid for SQL, which is a compromise between SPL and SQ (sound quality).
