I bought these speakers because the right tweeter failed, and they looked
like a good fit. I was able to install them in the stock location by making a
replacement for the original spring wire retaining clip sized correctly for the
JL speaker. I soldered the factory wires to the speaker. The repair took
1.5 hours for both speakers. I had the spring wire, but most hardware
stores have it. With the door panels in, the car looks stock.
I have already replaced the stock subwoffers with the JL 6W0-4 6 inch
ones, chosen because they fit behind the stock rear deck with only minor
mods. They were an improvement, and with the tweeters the system is
upgraded from a decent (bose) factory system to a really top end system,
very similar in fidelity to my BMW M5. I really recommend this entire
upgrade. The stock Audi speakers fail in most of the cars, and the entire
upgrade, woofers and tweeters costs less than one speaker from Audi.
