I spent quite a bit of time researching the best unit for my 2007 ford fusion. I was torn between the DNX6960 and this unit. The deciding factor was the large screen and the built in lifetime traffic. I also read several complaints about the start-up time with the 6960. All I can say is that I made the right choice. This unit is awesome! You can customize every aspect to fit your listening experience. I found that the unit has a built in crossover for your front and rear speakers. This worked out really well when I paired this unit with a couple of Kicker subs. You can truly customize the sound on the fly. The Garmin Nav is also an outstanding feature. You can also customize this to your liking with additional POIs and even custom vehicles. -Pretty much anything you can do with the potable Garmin Nuvi. Kenwood also has a great forum for this model which covers even deeper customization. Make sure you download the latest firmware from Kenwood. -I have heard people complain about a delay with the older versions. Great unit and with great support from Crutchfield.

I installed this unit installed in my 2002 BMW 330Ci in April 2010. I had the unit professionally installed by a local Kenwood dealer from whom I bought the unit. To any BMW owner reading this review: do your homework first. The install requires significant fabrication.
Kenwood has had 5 firmware releases since the product was released, but they haven't yet corrected a complaint I identified to them last Spring. If you turn off your car without first turning off the radio and an iPod is the active source, then the radio will not wait for the iPod to resume when you power up the radio again and will switch to the next input source in its rotation. Also, the touchscreen buttons require more aiming accuracy than I can usually provide while driving and need to be 'fuzzier'. It would also be useful if the radio could interact with the seek buttons through a steering wheel interface to scroll through lists. This would make it safer to use while driving.
The Garmin navigation software is excellent and easy to use. It was one of the primary reasons why I selected the Kenwood. Garmin uses NavTeq maps, which are more accurate for my location than Tele Atlas maps. Creating routes on the fly is fairly easy, and finding and adding stops for points of interest is fairly straightforward.
The telephone interface is excellent and works well with my current iPhone 4 as well as the iPhone 3 I had previously.
There is room for improvement, but I am mostly satisfied with this purchase.

This unit is bar far the greatest stereo I've ever seen. I had it professionally installed locally in Salem NH. I had the back-up camera, HD tuner, Blue tooth microphone and a GPS antenna put in my Dodge Charger, and everything works like a charm. Also the Crutchfield agent was extremely knowledgeable and insightful. He knew exactly what I needed for the job. The installers are without question the professionals you need for the job. A great team, Crutchfield and these installers and everything is a blissfull happiness.

I installed this unit in my 2007 Dodge Caliber. Accessories included the Ipod wire, Steering Wheel Remote, and HD radio.
One thing when installing an HD radio to this unit, you lose FM traffic unless you install a Y adapter in order to hook your antenna up to both the head unit and the HD Radio box. This, in theory, does degrade the signal. No where in the instructions did I find this. I only found this out after emailing Kenwood.
The processor does seem to be a bit slow. I find myself having to wait for a few seconds at times. I find it tolerable.
The navigation system works well, but you cannot load Garmin extras, even though the instruction manual says you can.

DNX7160 Complete Review |

Professional installation by a Kenwood reseller; was impressed with the "look"; marketing group at Kenwood better get a nice bonus this year. First impressions good; unit looks sharp; it all goes downhill when you use the unit.
The short version: to understand the DNX-7160, all you need to have experienced in life is a computer virus on an old computer. The DNX-7160 is slow and buggy----reboot is the most frequently used option.
With or without the IPod, the DNX-7160 takes forever to do anything; the interface is abysmal and unusable. Do to the dearth of information available about the DNX-7160, it is impossible to ascertain what processor, software, and engineering is used to produce the DNX-7160; suffice it to say the technology in the DNX-7160 is worse than 1950s technology.
Do yourself (and wallet) a big favor---move on quickly---the Kenwood is a marketers dream ; if you want to listen to music in your car and have navigation, buy a cassette player and $200 Garmin; yes, the cassette is antiquated, but at least it works.
Let me be clear and in no uncertain terms, I would prefer a cassette deck to the DNX-7160. I hope you find this review useful---the only thing I ask in return is why couldn't you provide this review instead of me...it would have saved me $$$$!
Real simple---don't buy this paper weight!
