I paired this with a Pioneer DEH-P47DH purchased from Crutchfield in 2009 to fit my 1985 Trans Am. Two eXcelon 6x9's purchased in 2004 had never been used, and I used those with two Alpine 4" SPS-410 front speakers purchased with my KAC 6404 order. It wasn't too hard replacing the factory wiring and speakers, or running all the needed extra cables - lots of 16 gauge wire mostly, other than amp feeds and grounds.
The sound of music has never sounded so sweet in my TA before. Turning up the volume to the upper RMS wattage (40wx4) will literally run you out of the car (the 6x9s have a 93 dB upper level and the 4" Alpines are rated 89 dB) - but the music is crystal clear, and I even have very respectable bass from the 6x9s. For a small interior, this KAC 6404 offers more than enough power if you've used the right speakers, and it hardly gets warm in operation. Add another amp for deep bass - like the old KAC 7201 I have bridged to a 12" eXcelon sub in a sealed box, I hadn't used since purchase in 2004, and you've got a "killer" system. Well, you will if you have a 140 amp alternator, a good healthy battery, and a 1 farad capacitor installed like I also have. My restored custom 406 CI small block TA was already a head turner, now it really gets approval from everyone hearing the stereo. The experience in my Trans Am, now, is like being live onstage with the band - even while driving.

Purchased this amp due to the lack of satisfaction I was having with my aftermarket upgrades. I have an 06 Subaru Impreza with a Clarion CZ500 head unit and Boston Acoustics S55 speakers in the front doors and S45 speakers in the back doors. The amp was installed professionally and mounted under the drivers seat (plenty of room). There are also two floor vents that blow directly on it as well, which will help the amp from overheating. (Side note:I also ordered an installation kit from Crutchfield. If you are doing so, I would recommend ordering another RCA patch cable as the kit only comes with one). The sound is phenomenal. The highs and mids are absolutely crisp and clear, while you can still hear and feel the bass coming from the 5 1/4" and 4 " speakers. Prior to the amp, I had to have the radio set at 26 going down the highway to hear it, 32 to enjoy it. Now, I set it at 16 to hear it, and about 22 to enjoy it. As for the iPod playing, superb! I turn it up to 28 now and I feel like my ear drums are going to pop. And while I am a "rock" listener, must say that country sounds really good being played with the components I have. If you want more from aftermarket speakers, then get an amp. This one may not be best suited for your setup, so have Crutchfield help you. But again, one is definitely worth your investment.

First of all the instruction were very easy. Just installed it about two weeks ago. This is my first amp, and I would have to say the sound it puts out in my MR2 is great, being that my car is small, no need for blowing my ears out. The mids and highs are great, I'm not A big bass person. But I do wish it had just A little more bass to it, But I'm sure having only 4 inch JL in the rear had something to do with the bass, but overall I'm very happy with the amp. I have JL speakers 6 1/2 in the front and 4 inch in the rear side panels. If your more into the mids and high and not really into the bass then get this amp. I also have to say Crutchfield support is great and will buy from them again. Chris in support was great thanks for the help.

To start off i just bought a 2002 cavalier, and i wanted to upgrade my audio system so i got a full system. I got a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X494 headunit, 4x6 sps alpine speakers for the doors, 6x9 sps speakers for the rear, this Kenwood KAC-6404 4 chan amp for the speakers, a jh600 mtx mono block amp, and a JL Audio 12W3v3-4 subwoofer.
I powered my alpine sps speakers with this amp, and it sounds great. I really like the sound, and i feel for the price this amp is great. It sounds even better because i added bass blockers to all the speakers because i have a subwoofer. I would completely suggest this amp to anyone.
